@@simonamercuryjackson1874 This is just a hypothesis here, but music is about evoking feelings. If you as a listener like what a song does to you then you'll consider it good music. The market size of people like you and me that like what we feel when this music plays is rather small, I'm afraid. Most people don't empathize with this, which is why rating music is such bullshit sometimes. It's not about being good or bad, or virtuous and complex. It's about statistics: how many people feel something they wanna feel when they listen to Despacito? A fuck lot more than people that feel something with The Colour of Spring, and like what they feel.

@@simonamercuryjackson1874 It happens so often sadly but as I’ve got older and seen so many wonderfully gifted musicians/vocalists pass away I try not to see it as a negative anymore,. Instead I just feel truly blessed that I do appreciate and understand how amazingly talented and special people like Mark were and obviously the rest of the brilliant band around him….so even when groups disband or as in Mark’s case have to leave this mortal coil way too early, I try to take great solace from immersing myself in all the powerful ranges of emotions i feel when I listen to all of Talk Talk’s magical music and that will ever stop until it’s time to say my final goodbye! 🙏❤️

The drum work and bass work on this are simply astounding. Lee Harris and Paul Webb played on the album and are as much a part of Talk Talk as Hollis himself. The fact they are playing here adds to the full effect. I think they played in a reggae band together before Talk Talk. They played in another band after - See 'O.rang' if you want to hear more from them.
Harris is an exceptional drummer. Webb is just a locked in bass player. Almost not there. Like any good bass player. Almost an extension of Harris' kick drum. Sub bass, like in drum and bass.
David Rhodes who played guitar with Peter Gabriel played on this album and toured with Talk Talk as well. He's not here though I don't think. Still, the guitarists do an amazing job.
Mark Hollis was one of the best songwriters and producers of the 20th Century. Certainly in the top 5 of what the 80's had to offer. He may have even been the best. Yes, he was a genius. Ahead of his time. He took a band through synth-pop at its inception, to this meister-werk that is the Colour of Spring in its heady hey day (pop/rock - if you can call i that) all the way to the final Spirit of Eden, incorporating experimental jazz and that 'oceanic' sound. Don't get much more different than that. Thank you and good night.
But for me, the heart of the band - Harris and Webb, locked in that super tight, super groovy groove. Well, it just does not get any better than that.
He did what he wanted to do.
    He came.
    He saw.
    He conquered.

This is a little sad - I came here to remember days gone by and find that, unnoticed by me, Mark Hollis passed away in 2019. Anyway… I first came across Talk Talk when the supported Bowie’s Serious Moonlight gigs at Milton Keynes IIRC. To be honest they were given a rough ride by the audience, but I suppose this is often the lot of little known bands supporting megastars. A year or two later ca e The Colour of Spring and I was captivated. Unfortunately though, this more or less coincided with a terribly unhappy event in my own life and I often played this song and Give It Up to console myself. So, bitter sweet memories. But that aside, the songs certainly stand the test of time and yes, the drum and bass are as tight as they come. Fantastic music.

And that 60Hz cycle hum? Didn't make it any worse.

Last year year he rerecorded I Don't Believe in You with a number of Talk Talk connected musicians and gave us a lovely close up of himself doing that solo here. Do YOU recognise that synth? Maybe it's not what he originally used?
