I am in the Midwest USA and only ever recall hearing 'Electric Blue' on the radio when I was a child. I knew nothing else about Icehouse until just a few days ago, when I came across this song. I love everything about it; the melancholy vibe; the mellow, hypnotic rhythm, and Iva Davies' vocals are stunning! Elsewhere on a reaction to this song, someone made a comment that really resonates with me regarding the feel of this song: " that aloof, cool synth, melancholic backbeat, the longing of stretched vocal notes and faraway timbres -- this is the mid 80s where under all the glitz and vivid colors was a lonely 3am drive home on a long stretch of highway and an empty feeling in your heart."
We loved the 80s, we loved Icehouse and we loved this song. This video shows that great music is ageless and timeless. We enjoyed it, danced to it, listened to it in the car and had a great time doing so. What an amazing song and what great memories it brings. Thank you for that Icehouse.

@@pusanghalaw He's in his 60s here. Yes, the high notes are much harder to hit. 30 years does take a toll on the vocal cords. No one at 60, sounds like a 20 or 30 year old.

Magic ... his voice is getting better and better with age. All of Icehouse's songs still sound fresh and crisp today. Wonder if I ever will have the fortune to see them live as they probably won't come to Europe anymore I assume.
This is such a gem of a tune. I discovered "No promises" and Icehouse (of course I'd heard Hey little girl, and always thought it was an old Roxy Music tune... :o ) . Immediately texted a colleague of mine - "think you'll like this band". Of course, he'd bought their record in 1986 and was a big fan since then. I just don't understand how they got under my radar back then. Big thanks to RUclips's (usually crap) algorithms.

Saw them live in Bendigo 19th January. Last saw them live 1984 when I was 23. Sold out shows both times, they are still brilliant and I want to see them live again. Iva has gown his hair longer and looks terrific and they sound amazing.

I first heard No Promises back in 1986 when I was 16 in 10th grade. Now some 33 years later, it STILL has the same affect on me as it did WAYYY BACK THEN!! My most favorite Icehouse song EVER!! I LUVVVVE IT!!

Australia’s Most prolific , music arrangement, vocally, rhythmically, 5star all the way. I played drums in this time frame , played many supports to Icehouse & many more. Listening to this masterpiece takes me back to my childhood when life was so easy and nothing to be scared off. Playing outside with lots of friends and growing up without worries.

We were lucky enough to meet Paul Wheeler at The Enmore when we saw Gary Numan prior to Icehouse touring again - he was the most down to earth coolest guy! We’ve met several of the band members since and see Icehouse every time they play in Sydney. Cannot wait until the December concerts. Thankyou again for all you give to us!!

Excellent performance by everyone! IMHO, his voice has matured beautifully over the years, and sounds better than he did 30 years ago! :)
As a Drummer, I can relate to a 4 on the floor kind of groove.
Drums and Bass are the Engine Room of the Band, providing a solid foundation for any given song.
For a song that tells a story, one needs a steady groove that is not dominating, allowing the song to breathe.
Iva has a voice that is rich but yet suttle that is well suited to a song of this style.
I feel that Iva has maintained his voice throughout because he is not a screamer or at least he doesn't feel the need to use to much vocal force when singing.
Every well written song has good dynamics and Iva is a fine example of this.
Well done to Team Icehouse.

I've had the pleasure of recording & performing along side Tony Llewellyn (former Icehouse keyboards and backing vocals 1991 to 2004).
Tony & I worked together during the 2000's for about 5 years and are still keeping in touch.

Heard and loved this song as a teenager in the 80s. I rediscovered it in the mid-90s, and I've missed any Icehouse performances being from the U.S. So, my perspective is seeing the 80s video and jumping to the present. What a masterful voice that has aged well. So powerful and has such range. I'm sure Iva is a god and legend in Australia. Absolutely amazing! Thanks for posting this.
