Great quadruple reaction. 'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but it is also a sort of coming of age thing. 15 is when compulsory education ends in Japan, so she is taking that first big life decision - further education, start a career, something else perhaps. She is realising that she will never be considered a child again, those first 15 years passed by so quickly and life will never be the same, so she is etching this special night of her 15th into her heart so she will never forget. It is not biographical - they recorded this song when Su was still only 14, but I'm sure she could relate. At shows on or near their own 15th birthdays in 2014 Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne/Koln) were each handed the mic and stand ceremoniously by Su half way through the song and they each took over the lead vocals for the second half (only fancam videos exist for both those shows). As you saw, the same thing happened at the Legend M show in 2019 for Moa's 20th birthday (the real coming of age to becoming an adult in Japan - the third girl was the Avenger Kano, not Momo) and again at Legend MM in March earlier this year the night before Momometal's 21st she took the lead and "showed her fangs".. The neck brace in the official video is an homage to X Japan's drummer, pianist and main composer Yoshiki who has needed several surgeries on his neck having damaged it headbanging. They have used the neck brace a lot in their lore and in many live performances. They have even had at least 4 concerts (Legend Corset (neck brace) in 2012, their first solo show held at Rock-May-Kan in Tokyo where they debuted this song, Budokan Red Night in March 2014 and both nights at Tokyo Dome in 2016) where everybody in the audience had to wear a neck brace. The girls were so impressed with the guy doing the headbanging in this video that they named him Hedoban Kami (god of headbanging).🤘🦊🤘

You can't avoid all spoilers in the guide, but I do think BABYMETAL Death from Legend 1997 (ruclips.net/video/3quj2og0URM/видео.htmlsi=TbUy8exVX-xnQBwI - w/ subtitles) is a must before seeing the guide. That's the one you probably don't want spoiled.
Momo is the new secret weapon of BABYMETAL. Has the most adorable clean voice, and can go harsh "showing her fangs" as she calls it. This is not the only song she does that on. She also has a live performance of Meta Taro from the second show of this same concert event where she does very distinct harshes in the first half of the song before Su takes over to finish (Legend MM is Momo's 2-day birthday show event, last day of 20, first day of 21). She has harshes in RATATATA, and for live performances of Metali during her part, they added a harsh vocal section for her as well (in addition to that whole section being a showcase of her ability to change her voice like a voice actress). A lot of the live performances backtrack her, but its very clearly her in the backtrack each time. She has a very distinct growl. See if you can find it in between all of Electric Callboy's growls in RATATATA, its there I promise, at least twice. There is even debate on whether she is layered in for the harshes at times in the new collab song Bekhauf. Keep an ear out, because while they will likely use this relatively sparingly, its a dimension they never had before last year. Edit to add: To answer the height question: BABYMETAL is tiny. Ive seen them live 8 times, up close near or at barricade each time. It is mind boggling how small Su and her thin frame really are. Moa is 5'0, Su is 5'1ish, and Momo is 5'3 but they also wear really thick soles on their boots to make them seem taller, as well as their outfits themselves make them look bigger, but these are very small petite women. Look at Su's shoes sometime, its actually laughably hysterical how she has nearly 2 inch risers in her heels to make her look bigger than Momo, who is by far the largest member, in plain clothes backstage photos meeting other bands its very obvious how much "illusion" goes into their appearance on stage. And yes, they do dance in Doc Martens. Whenever they come out on stage and walk past the West Kami guitarist Chris Kelly at stage right, its plainly obvious just how small they really are. The man absolutely towers over them. He is about our height.
Drummer Hideki Aoyama is the son of a known drummer in Japan, Jun Aoyama, who passed away in 2013. He also lost his younger brother drummer Aoyama Yuk. Quote from Hideki Aoyama: I will be inheriting the will of Yuki and my father, who were both drummers and showed love for their work.
Jun Aoyama was a master of the drums, and that is a title that not just anyone earns. He could play the dozens of traditional Japanese drums on an epic level. His son Hideki brought his father's towel (that he was using during his concerts) to the shows in 2014. You can see the towel hanging on a stand next to Hideki's drum set.

Good job remembering the history and faces that early into your journey! I can't even imagine how much fun it must have been for a 14 year-old girl to aim a smoke-gun at a crowd of (I think) 8.000 people cheering at them. I'm 51, and I know it would make me happy. I was wondering whether you would remember to pay attention to the whispered part during the live show, knowing it would surprise you. :-) I love that part! I also enjoy watching Su dance and pulling her imaginary twin tails. She is an incredibly food dancer, too. Momoko always likes to do things a little differently, so she uses an extra cutesy voice, sings more staccato, and also... growls. Yes that came as a surprise to us as well. So far it has only been short screams, but who knows what the next album brings. (Personally, I hope they are not going to overuse it) BTW, at some point of your journey I expect you to use BABYMETAL to lure your wife into Metal. :-)

100% agree with you. It's cool Momo can growl but I like the surprise when she does "show her fangs" and how they only sprinkle it in so far. I think they don't want to hurt her voice so most like keep using it sparingly. Plus it seems her growls are always recorded. It's her, but recorded because it pretty obvious she doesn't do it live in all the shows. 🤘🦊🤘

Nice reactions. Su's death stare could stop a charging, Rhino. Su love to dance and when she hands over the mic Su has no problem getting to just dance. And she really cuts loose. And yes, they do scream during this song. Moa really tried hard to do her best Su impersonation but as folks will tell ya. Moa has to be Moa, and she cracks that dimple smile of hers and you can her the crowd cheer when it happens too. Momoka instead of trying to do what Su does. She shows Babymetals new fangs and makes the song all her own. I was pulling for Momoka to become a new member of Babymetal especially when she became the last remaining avenger. She was on point with Su and Moa. I gotta say she earned that job. In all my years I don't recall anyone else doing that. If somebody knows someone who did that, please let me know. This song is pure fire live too. When you're there in person you feel it. Crowd participation is mandatory at a Babymetal concert. They believe their songs aren't complete until the audience joins in. Babymetal off stage are around 5" tall. On stage they can be seen from space. Their stage presence is amazing. Moa's birthday is July 4th. Su's just past on Dec 20th and Momoka's birthday is in March. She became the new member of Babymetal right after her birthday, so we missed this performance for her 20th birthday which is what you got to see for Moa's performance. 20 is a big deal in Japan. and so is 15. But we did get to see Momoka perform this for her 21st birthday making it unique in that way as well. Babymetal is the definition of Juxtaposition. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.
Great reactions! The Seishun 18 Ticket is a special discount ticket for local trains in Japan. "Seishun" literally means "blue spring," which usually refers to youth or adolescence. Japanese high schoolers graduate at 18. So, the ticket is mainly for youngsters who want to travel in Japan with a reasonable fare, and I believe some college students still use it for their trips. The 15-year-old girl in this song used this ticket to go to her first metal concert. By the way, the ticket was originally meant for young people, but older adults can still buy and use it.
Moa could easily lead her own group or even be a solo artist, but she said she has no desire to do so. She's says she's perfectly happy with her role in BM🦊🤘
So fun watching you go through Babymetal performances, thank you! One funny commonality is the "this is my favorite song" comment, it doesn't really change - how often the song is so new/different/excellent that the discovery of it makes it a new favorite. Legend 1997 concert, even if it is just for yourself as a fan, is worth watching from the first moment of the operatic introduction through the last moment when the lights go down. It is Su-Metal's 16th birthday party, and one of the most epic concerts ever performed in any genre, any venue, any time (obviously my opinion, but it is what it is). It is formatted as a rock opera, from start to finish telling the story of Suzuka Nakamoto abandoning her life as an aspiring J-Pop singer to become an emissary of Babymetal's mythical fox-god of metal.
Yes this is the real Kami band. They are dressed as spirits, not skeletons. The skeletons (BabyBones) are pretty obvious. It was BabyBones on the Megitsune you watched from this show.
Tiny humans giant voices! Excellent video of course! I love how Momo truly made the song her own! Her actual "normal" voice is a lot deeper, she definitely turned the kawaii up to 11 for her solo part! I wasn't around yet for the era after Yui, but I heard sad stories and even saw an interview in a magazine where Moa thought about quitting because she felt she was working hard but not feeling the love from the fans. A few times I heard folks threw a cup or whatnot at whatever Avenger was dancing in Yui's spot. Speaks volumes as to the emotional resilience of Su and Moa, I believe, to keep going. I entered the fandom right before their first show back after two years, and I got to vicariously live through the PIA shows where Momo was announced and cried. They are whole again, and it shows in their happiness on stage! Knowing their history and troubles made it all the more special when my wife and I got direct attention from Moa in Dallas haha. Thanks for this reaction. The holding the of the nose is the 'crybabies' part, I don't know what the literal translation is in Japanese. And yes the long black hair is when they hold the pigtails. Yes, that is Su-metal killing it when she just turned 16, she had basically fully developed her 'death stare' as it's often called. Fans know when this song is gonna be performed on a smaller stage, because the mic. stand is on the floor in the back. 🙂 Yes, Yuimetal, Moametal, and Momometal wear Dr. Martens, the reason is when Babymetal got started in the early days, because Moametal performed to hard to children's shoes, she would break them. What is also cool is how when on tour, they take a moment to headbang with the crowd, if you remember the Kingslayer performance, they did full body headbang that is what they do. They go hard. Momometal wanted to do something special to make the contrast the most, she sure did. In an interview Babymetal ladies called it Momometal's 'fangs'.

Speaking of Su-metal and her stare. It is known as her Death Stare or Glare and it is awesomely ferocious. There is another great example in the 2014 Budokan Black Night version of Akatsuki. It is a Su solo so I hope you check it out. The Moa version is called a Death Smirk. You may have seen it in her Headbanger version. Night of 15 in the original. Night of 20 for their 20th birthdays. Moa's version is from her 20th birthday. 15 is when you graduate from "high school" in Japan so it is like 18 in the US. The story is about a 15 year old girl going to her first metal concert. The train tickets, the venue, the metalheads with long black hair, etc.
The drummer of the original Japanese Kami Band is Hideki Aoyama. He comes from a family of drummers, so it's in his blood. Su-metal is famous for her fearsome death stare. She can be super kawaii one second, and then looking daggers a moment later. Until you've experienced Babymetal live in person, you can't really appreciate just how powerful Su-metal's stage presence is. The first time I saw them live, I was taken aback by it and I couldn't tear my eyes off her for the whole show. She's absolutely mesmerizing. At the time Legend 1997 took place (December 21st 2013), it was by far the biggest solo show they had done. It was at Makuhari Messe in front of 8,000 fans. They had done some bigger festival stages by this point, but no solo shows of this size. The guitarist is the late great Mikio Fujioka. You will see plenty more of him in future Babymetal performances as he was a regular member of the Kami Band. Headbanger was the second last song of the show at Legend 1997. The last was Babymetal Death. You really must watch the Legend 1997 performance of that one too, as it's a very special one. It's Babymetal tradition that when one of the girls has a major birthday, they do a concert to celebrate the occasion and the one who's birthday it is takes over the lead vocal on Headbangerrr!!! Su-metal has performed it on several occasions including for her 16th Birthday at Legend 1997 (2013) and her 20th birthday at Legend S (2017). Moametal performed for her 15th birthday in Koln, Germany (2014) and at Apocrypha M in Tokyo (2014), and for her 20th birthday at Legend M in 2019. Yui performed it for her 15th birthday in Paris (2014) and at Apocrypha Y in Tokyo (2014). Unfortunately, there is no footage of Moa and Yui's 15th birthday performances except for some fancam video of Yui's performance in Paris. Headbanger is a coming-of-age song. It tells the story of a young girl sneaking out of home on her birthday to go to her first metal show. It is about her awareness that she is leaving childhood behind and entering the world of adulthood, so she is choosing to mark this moment of transition by making a night of memories that will stay with her for the rest of her life. The original lyrics nominate the girls age as 15, but they have changed the lyrics to 20 for the performances they did for their later birthdays (20 is the age of legal adulthood in Japan). Moabanger took place at Legend M, which was held in Nagoya (in Moa's home prefecture of Aichi) on July 6 & 7 2019 to celebrate Moa's 20th birthday. Legend M had Riho Sayashi and Kano Fujihira performing as Avengers. Momoko wouldn't debut as Avenger until until Super Slipper 10 in Taiwan about a month after this show. You can tell that Moa was singing live because you can hear her getting a bit out of breath towards the end since I don't think she has quite the same level of breath control that Su does. I was at Legend MM and yes, Momo literally descended from the heavens (well from the roof anyway) to perform Headbanger. There was quite a long wait between the end of the previous song and the start of Headbanger since Momo probably had to run up to the roof to get into position to descend to the stage. Su is 5'2", Moa is 5', and Momo is about 5'3". They are all very smol, but they make up for their small stature with huge stage presence. The boots they wear are top of the line Docs or Onitsuka Tigers, so I'm sure they're pretty comfortable. Growling is the new thing that Momo has brought to Babymetal since she joined. Momo is both the most kawaii and the most fierce at the same time!
Yeah you did it, amazing journey!!! I have easily watched 100 reactions of Headbanger but no one dared to do 4 in a row, kudos to you!!! As much as Yui will be missed and loved forever, Momo is a perfect addition. She hasn't tried to fill Yui's shoes (boots actually) but is wearing her own, and being phenomenal at it. The only "metal" thing they wouldn't do, the heavy growling, now they have it with Momo, which is amazing. I bet you are going to say "this is my favorite song" a few more times yet ;) Karate is a fantastic song (as always). They kill it live (as always) but the MV is really gorgeous to watch too. Babymetal has more "essential" songs, I'll dare to suggest some (most of them have been suggested by other fellow commentators) -For the full display of glory of the Kami Band, "Rondo of Nightmare (with mischief of gods intro)" -For the perfect performance and crowd control off the charts "Road of Resistance (Live in Japan)" -For the heaviest and darkest and "metalest" thing imaginable, "Babymetal Death, Legend 1997" -For witnessing history on the making, "Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Sonisphere 2014)", which is when the metal world knew about three little Japanese girls making metal -For the most beautiful and touching live performance, "The One (Official)" -Finally, the two first MV's they released "Doki Doki Morning" and "iine" (with double ii) are a real blast, and iine is probably their craziest song ever (and that's a lot to say) Neverthless, you can never go wrong with Babymetal. "That's a crowd hype moment, I'm calling it", and mate, you were spot on. Babymetal have a mountain of excellent performances, but to me, the pinnacle is in the Legend 1997 performance when the crowd bellows "Ki-e-ro" when Su directs them too. It's simply superb. Regarding Su's famous death stares, they're a feature of their earlier performances; it's like she's shaping the universe through sheer determination to make sure the performance meets her exacting standards. Nowadays the stare has been replaced by smiles and pure joy, maybe because she's more confident. I love both.

I had to start typing this as soon as Su's first Death Stare gave you goosebumps, this is totally normal man, Queen Su is a stage general and a total badass. I gotta say......I've watched like 100's of BM reactions and yours are very genuine and are seriously enjoying this Foxhole adventure. Many reactors are still great but you are really absorbing the info and details of BM and reading through a bunch of our comments and we appreciate it sir. Moa's version is really touching and makes you grin ear to ear when she starts singing, the crowd goes wild and Moa can't help but smile with joy, so so good. Dude, I told you Momo would blow your mind. You should have seen the fanbase blow up big time after this performance, BM has non backing tracking growls? Yes we all love all the musicians. And we know who they are and they are more prominent in the live shows (not the video but the actual live shows). This is Hideki Oyama (sp?). He has solos in a couple of song intros.
nice reaction Shade-Metal, now these four versions are iconic as anything they do, but just yesterday the most heartwarming version came across my feed and that version is the MV with the girls commentary a few years after the fact, it is so cute listening to them talk about filming the video and how they felt at the time, it was part of a series they did, where they sat down to watch their first five MVs and comment their memories of filming those early MVs, pure gold. Now a key difference between a few of the versions, in December of 2017, SU turned 20, so she changed the words, "Night of My 15th year" to "Night of My 20th year" but just for the actual 20th birthday shows, the rest of the time they do the original lyrics.

Su's Dad was a Punk Rocker in the 90's and has the same death glare. She learned that every time he yelled at her as a little kid. Those are Doc Marten boots, and they trash them but you can't get better.

Knew you would enjoy all of these versions. Can't go wrong with doing Karate either. The live version for that you'll want to do is likely going to be the d(r)ownload 2016 version. The audio for that specific version isn't the best but still good, however, the story behind it is what matters most about that one. Of course they kill it like they do with all of their live shows. Off this reaction, you'll really love the song they did with Tom Morello. Which the name of that song is Metali. When you get around to doing Road of Resistance, it's almost a must to do the Live in Japan version, just make sure to completely finish the video when you do, do that one.

And then, a few years later, Su and Moa themselves were worshiping her in their knees in front of 17k people during two concerts held to celebrate her 21st birthday. Nothing can beat that. 🤘🦊

I totally agree with you (RE: Legend 1997 reaction). I have never heard any other singer annunciate singing live better than Su. I also agree with about the drummer (Hideki Aoyama). He is an absolute god. He is my favorite thing about Baby Metal. There is no one in the history of the world that I worship more than him.

The most common drummers for Babymetal are Hideki Aoyama (he played most shows from 2013 to 2023) and Anthony Barone (he came with the Western Kami band for the 2019 US and 2020 EU tours and played all shows since March 2023).

Delightful reaction even with the...unfortunate if understandable audio lapses. And again I was shocked to hear this was an hour long reaction. It really did not feel like that. One of the things that really impresses me is your attention to detail. I mean neck brace in the thumbnail, you so called it on the whispered "dis-a-peer, things like that. I chuckled when you said that cause I knew what was coming. I haven't read your other comments here so I may duplicate some of what folks are saying. If so sorry. A very big band in Japan formed in the 80's is called X-Japan. They've really influenced Babymetal. Their drummer and founder Yoshiki once headbanged so hard he hurt his neck and had to wear a neckbrace for a while. So the neck brace is an homage to Yoshiki. Nobody else has either confirmed this or shot it down so I'll mention it. A source I consider fairly credible said that BM are not chanting headbanger with a cute regional colloquialism. But according to this source are actually chanting to Hedoban-the Japanese god of metal. Also BM's iconic side to side head bang motion was the creation of their choreographer Mikko Mizuno or Mikkometal. Mikko among other things did choreography for the 2020 Olympics opening ceremony held in Japan. The girls were so young when they started this there was a concern that the traditional headbang motion could hurt their young necks. Except when it is an "official" live video do BM use studio audio for all the vocals. Which is why it's good to check first and if it's a pro shot live everything will be live. Babymetal's tracks can get pretty elaborate so there are a lot of backing tracks used to give the fully rich multi-layered performance their music deserves. But this is no WHAM situation with BM "mouthing" the lyrics. These ladies are for real. But you obviously get that. One final suggestion-if you haven't already cranked it out. If you're going to do a medley of "Karate" the mv for this song is very good. And no comprehensive medley of "Karate" would be complete without: Karate Live at Download Festival 2016 (link will follow). This is the girls live in front of a crowd of 60,000 drenched metalheads. That years Download Festival, variously AKA Drownload and Downpour festival. The girls and the OG Kami's we're not even sure if they'd go out because it was raining so hard. But the girls insisted that these people had come to see them and they didn't want to let them down. There is fun footage of their manager-no less-on stage before they went on with a broom trying to clear some of the water off of the stage. The words translated will explain many of the dance moves. It isn't about any smell, it is them telling crybabies to leave if they can't handle being in the mosh pit crowd. Also, the translation for the whisper part is after she says all crybabies must disappear, and it is the Japanese word for 'disappear' is what the whispered part is.
They all sang and danced in the group Sakura Gakuin. This is the group that gave rise to Babymetal. I recommend checking out some of Sakura Gakuin's music. You'll see them when they're very young. Sumetal also had a previous group, called Karen girls.

My suggestion would be to go for "Doki doki morning" . This is their "first" song. If you search you will find their first public apperance in some kind of internal talent show. Full playback ofc. They were really young with improvised outfits.. Then look for later live performance. And for the end search for video from Japan where they perform with "multiverse". What's that? They have backup dancers in case some girls got sick. And they change the lyric to "20 year old" for their 20th birthday. It's definitely one of their classic. In "Moabanger" video, there's clips from other show edited in, assuming to avoid copyright. Those clip have Momo in it. The Moabanger performance has other dancer named Kano. And yes, Babymetal now has the weapon of Momo growls. It was written with help of Sam Totman and Herman Lee of Dragon Force. All that song is a total workout for any kind of musician. And of course one of the most recognizable visual images of BABYMETAL. Also Rondo of Nightmare with Kami band intro (Live at Budokan) is a true masterpiece. Great reaction, raw and fair. 16:10 So the short version? Yes, THAT is the Kami Band. BabyMetal has had quite a few musicians join over time. You'll know the skeletons when you see them, which isn't often anymore. When BabyMetal tours outside Asia, they are joined by the Kami Band (West), which are easily recognized by the helmet type masks they wear. Edit: There is one other version of this song. There is a very rare YuiBanger out there.
Also, you need to go and see them live. The North American tour is over, but I suspect they may be back next fall. They have a spring tour in Europe for 2025, so there is a chance. They usually take a couple months off between tours, which would line them up to go out again in late July or early August. The last two American tours began in August and go through to November. Keep an eye on their website.

One of their most classic songs! The song is about a girls first metal concert and the way it change her world. Nothing will be the same!
Great quadruple reaction. 'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but it is also a sort of coming of age thing. 15 is when compulsory education ends in Japan, so she is taking that first big life decision - further education, start a career, something else perhaps.
She is realising that she will never be considered a child again, those first 15 years passed by so quickly and life will never be the same, so she is etching this special night of her 15th into her heart so she will never forget.
It is not biographical - they recorded this song when Su was still only 14, but I'm sure she could relate.
At shows on or near their own 15th birthdays in 2014 Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne/Koln) were each handed the mic and stand ceremoniously by Su half way through the song and they each took over the lead vocals for the second half (only fancam videos exist for both those shows).
As you saw, the same thing happened at the Legend M show in 2019 for Moa's 20th birthday (the real coming of age to becoming an adult in Japan - the third girl was the Avenger Kano, not Momo) and again at Legend MM in March earlier this year the night before Momometal's 21st she took the lead and "showed her fangs"..
The neck brace in the official video is an homage to X Japan's drummer, pianist and main composer Yoshiki who has needed several surgeries on his neck having damaged it headbanging.
They have used the neck brace a lot in their lore and in many live performances. They have even had at least 4 concerts (Legend Corset (neck brace) in 2012, their first solo show held at Rock-May-Kan in Tokyo where they debuted this song, Budokan Red Night in March 2014 and both nights at Tokyo Dome in 2016) where everybody in the audience had to wear a neck brace.
The girls were so impressed with the guy doing the headbanging in this video that they named him Hedoban Kami (god of headbanging).🤘🦊🤘

Momo is the new secret weapon of BABYMETAL. Has the most adorable clean voice, and can go harsh "showing her fangs" as she calls it. This is not the only song she does that on. She also has a live performance of Meta Taro from the second show of this same concert event where she does very distinct harshes in the first half of the song before Su takes over to finish (Legend MM is Momo's 2-day birthday show event, last day of 20, first day of 21).
She has harshes in RATATATA, and for live performances of Metali during her part, they added a harsh vocal section for her as well (in addition to that whole section being a showcase of her ability to change her voice like a voice actress). A lot of the live performances backtrack her, but its very clearly her in the backtrack each time. She has a very distinct growl. See if you can find it in between all of Electric Callboy's growls in RATATATA, its there I promise, at least twice.
There is even debate on whether she is layered in for the harshes at times in the new collab song Bekhauf. Keep an ear out, because while they will likely use this relatively sparingly, its a dimension they never had before last year.
Edit to add: To answer the height question: BABYMETAL is tiny. Ive seen them live 8 times, up close near or at barricade each time. It is mind boggling how small Su and her thin frame really are. Moa is 5'0, Su is 5'1ish, and Momo is 5'3 but they also wear really thick soles on their boots to make them seem taller, as well as their outfits themselves make them look bigger, but these are very small petite women. Look at Su's shoes sometime, its actually laughably hysterical how she has nearly 2 inch risers in her heels to make her look bigger than Momo, who is by far the largest member, in plain clothes backstage photos meeting other bands its very obvious how much "illusion" goes into their appearance on stage. And yes, they do dance in Doc Martens.
Whenever they come out on stage and walk past the West Kami guitarist Chris Kelly at stage right, its plainly obvious just how small they really are. The man absolutely towers over them. He is about our height.
Drummer Hideki Aoyama is the son of a known drummer in Japan, Jun Aoyama, who passed away in 2013. He also lost his younger brother drummer Aoyama Yuk. Quote from Hideki Aoyama: I will be inheriting the will of Yuki and my father, who were both drummers and showed love for their work.
Jun Aoyama was a master of the drums, and that is a title that not just anyone earns. He could play the dozens of traditional Japanese drums on an epic level.
His son Hideki brought his father's towel (that he was using during his concerts) to the shows in 2014. You can see the towel hanging on a stand next to Hideki's drum set.

I can't even imagine how much fun it must have been for a 14 year-old girl to aim a smoke-gun at a crowd of (I think) 8.000 people cheering at them. I'm 51, and I know it would make me happy. I was wondering whether you would remember to pay attention to the whispered part during the live show, knowing it would surprise you. :-) I love that part! I also enjoy watching Su dance and pulling her imaginary twin tails. She is an incredibly food dancer, too.
Momoko always likes to do things a little differently, so she uses an extra cutesy voice, sings more staccato, and also... growls. Yes that came as a surprise to us as well. So far it has only been short screams, but who knows what the next album brings. (Personally, I hope they are not going to overuse it)
BTW, at some point of your journey I expect you to use BABYMETAL to lure your wife into Metal. :-)

100% agree with you. It's cool Momo can growl but I like the surprise when she does "show her fangs" and how they only sprinkle it in so far. I think they don't want to hurt her voice so most like keep using it sparingly. Plus it seems her growls are always recorded. Nice reactions. Su's death stare could stop a charging, Rhino. Su love to dance and when she hands over the mic Su has no problem getting to just dance. And she really cuts loose. And yes, they do scream during this song. Moa really tried hard to do her best Su impersonation but as folks will tell ya. Moa has to be Moa, and she cracks that dimple smile of hers and you can her the crowd cheer when it happens too. Momoka instead of trying to do what Su does. She shows Babymetals new fangs and makes the song all her own. I was pulling for Momoka to become a new member of Babymetal especially when she became the last remaining avenger. She was on point with Su and Moa. I gotta say she earned that job. In all my years I don't recall anyone else doing that. If somebody knows someone who did that, please let me know. This song is pure fire live too. When you're there in person you feel it. Crowd participation is mandatory at a Babymetal concert. They believe their songs aren't complete until the audience joins in. Babymetal off stage are around 5" tall. On stage they can be seen from space. Their stage presence is amazing. Moa's birthday is July 4th. Su's just past on Dec 20th and Momoka's birthday is in March. She became the new member of Babymetal right after her birthday, so we missed this performance for her 20th birthday which is what you got to see for Moa's performance. 20 is a big deal in Japan. and so is 15. But we did get to see Momoka perform this for her 21st birthday making it unique in that way as well. Babymetal is the definition of Juxtaposition. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.
The crowd notices every change of any band member. They are all amazing but we can always tell when someone new is playing in the Kami Band.
Great reactions! The Seishun 18 Ticket is a special discount ticket for local trains in Japan. "Seishun" literally means "blue spring," which usually refers to youth or adolescence. Japanese high schoolers graduate at 18. So, the ticket is mainly for youngsters who want to travel in Japan with a reasonable fare, and I believe some college students still use it for their trips. The 15-year-old girl in this song used this ticket to go to her first metal concert. By the way, the ticket was originally meant for young people, but older adults can still buy and use it.

Legend 1997 concert, even if it is just for yourself as a fan, is worth watching from the first moment of the operatic introduction through the last moment when the lights go down. It is Su-Metal's 16th birthday party, and one of the most epic concerts ever performed in any genre, any venue, any time (obviously my opinion, but it is what it is). It is formatted as a rock opera, from start to finish telling the story of Suzuka Nakamoto abandoning her life as an aspiring J-Pop singer to become an emissary of Babymetal's mythical fox-god of metal.

Tiny humans giant voices! Excellent video of course! I love how Momo truly made the song her own! Her actual "normal" voice is a lot deeper, she definitely turned the kawaii up to 11 for her solo part!
I wasn't around yet for the era after Yui, but I heard sad stories and even saw an interview in a magazine where Moa thought about quitting because she felt she was working hard but not feeling the love from the fans. A few times I heard folks threw a cup or whatnot at whatever Avenger was dancing in Yui's spot. Speaks volumes as to the emotional resilience of Su and Moa, I believe, to keep going. I entered the fandom right before their first show back after two years, and I got to vicariously live through the PIA shows where Momo was announced and cried.
They are whole again, and it shows in their happiness on stage! Knowing their history and troubles made it all the more special when my wife and I got direct attention from Moa in Dallas haha. Such a special group. Momoko was exactly what they needed! ❤❤❤

Yes, Yuimetal, Moametal, and Momometal wear Dr. Martens, the reason is when Babymetal got started in the early days, because Moametal performed to hard to children's shoes, she would break them. What is also cool is how when on tour, they take a moment to headbang with the crowd, if you remember the Kingslayer performance, they did full body headbang that is what they do. They go hard.
Momometal wanted to do something special to make the contrast the most, she sure did. In an interview Babymetal ladies called it Momometal's 'fangs'.

A one hour quad Headbanger reaction? Hell yeah! Great reactions! Your attention to detail and remembering names is great. I've seen too many reactors go multiple videos and not remember names. Speaking of Su-metal and her stare. It is known as her Death Stare or Glare and it is awesomely ferocious. There is another great example in the 2014 Budokan Black Night version of Akatsuki. It is a Su solo so I hope you check it out. The Moa version is called a Death Smirk. You may have seen it in her Headbanger version. Night of 15 in the original. Night of 20 for their 20th birthdays. Moa's version is from her 20th birthday. 15 is when you graduate from "high school" in Japan so it is like 18 in the US. The story is about a 15 year old girl going to her first metal concert. The train tickets, the venue, the metalheads with long black hair, etc.

The drummer of the original Japanese Kami Band is Hideki Aoyama. He comes from a family of drummers, so it's in his blood.
Su-metal is famous for her fearsome death stare. She can be super kawaii one second, and then looking daggers a moment later.
Until you've experienced Babymetal live in person, you can't really appreciate just how powerful Su-metal's stage presence is. The first time I saw them live, I was taken aback by it and I couldn't tear my eyes off her for the whole show. She's absolutely mesmerizing.
At the time Legend 1997 took place (December 21st 2013), it was by far the biggest solo show they had done. It was at Makuhari Messe in front of 8,000 fans. They had done some bigger festival stages by this point, but no solo shows of this size.
The guitarist is the late great Mikio Fujioka. You will see plenty more of him in future Babymetal performances as he was a regular member of the Kami Band.
Headbanger was the second last song of the show at Legend 1997. The last was Babymetal Death. You really must watch the Legend 1997 performance of that one too, as it's a very special one.
It's Babymetal tradition that when one of the girls has a major birthday, they do a concert to celebrate the occasion and the one who's birthday it is takes over the lead vocal on Headbangerrr!!! Su-metal has performed it on several occasions including for her 16th Birthday at Legend 1997 (2013) and her 20th birthday at Legend S (2017). Moametal performed for her 15th birthday in Koln, Germany (2014) and at Apocrypha M in Tokyo (2014), and for her 20th birthday at Legend M in 2019. Yui performed it for her 15th birthday in Paris (2014) and at Apocrypha Y in Tokyo (2014). Unfortunately, there is no footage of Moa and Yui's 15th birthday performances except for some fancam video of Yui's performance in Paris.
Headbanger is a coming-of-age song. It tells the story of a young girl sneaking out of home on her birthday to go to her first metal show. It is about her awareness that she is leaving childhood behind and entering the world of adulthood, so she is choosing to mark this moment of transition by making a night of memories that will stay with her for the rest of her life. The original lyrics nominate the girls age as 15, but they have changed the lyrics to 20 for the performances they did for their later birthdays (20 is the age of legal adulthood in Japan).
Moabanger took place at Legend M, which was held in Nagoya (in Moa's home prefecture of Aichi) on July 6 & 7 2019 to celebrate Moa's 20th birthday.
Legend M had Riho Sayashi and Kano Fujihira performing as Avengers. Momoko wouldn't debut as Avenger until until Super Slipper 10 in Taiwan about a month after this show.
You can tell that Moa was singing live because you can hear her getting a bit out of breath towards the end since I don't think she has quite the same level of breath control that Su does.
I was at Legend MM and yes, Momo literally descended from the heavens (well from the roof anyway) to perform Headbanger. There was quite a long wait between the end of the previous song and the start of Headbanger since Momo probably had to run up to the roof to get into position to descend to the stage.
Su is 5'2", Moa is 5', and Momo is about 5'3". They are all very smol, but they make up for their small stature with huge stage presence.
The boots they wear are top of the line Docs or Onitsuka Tigers, so I'm sure they're pretty comfortable.
Growling is the new thing that Momo has brought to Babymetal since she joined. Momo is both the most kawaii and the most fierce at the same time!

As much as Yui will be missed and loved forever, Momo is a perfect addition. She hasn't tried to fill Yui's shoes (boots actually) but is wearing her own, and being phenomenal at it. The only "metal" thing they wouldn't do, the heavy growling, now they have it with Momo, which is amazing.

"That's a crowd hype moment, I'm calling it", and mate, you were spot on. Babymetal have a mountain of excellent performances, but to me, the pinnacle is in the Legend 1997 performance when the crowd bellows "Ki-e-ro" when Su directs them too. It's simply superb.
Regarding Su's famous death stares, they're a feature of their earlier performances; it's like she's shaping the universe through sheer determination to make sure the performance meets her exacting standards. Nowadays the stare has been replaced by smiles and pure joy, maybe because she's more confident. I love both.

I had to start typing this as soon as Su's first Death Stare gave you goosebumps, this is totally normal man, Queen Su is a stage general and a total badass. Yes we all love all the musicians. And we know who they are and they are more prominent in the live shows (not the video but the actual live shows). This is Hideki Oyama (sp?). He has solos in a couple of song intros.

nice reaction Shade-Metal, now these four versions are iconic as anything they do, but just yesterday the most heartwarming version came across my feed and that version is the MV with the girls commentary a few years after the fact, it is so cute listening to them talk about filming the video and how they felt at the time, it was part of a series they did, where they sat down to watch their first five MVs and comment their memories of filming those early MVs, pure gold. Now a key difference between a few of the versions, in December of 2017, SU turned 20, so she changed the words, "Night of My 15th year" to "Night of My 20th year" but just for the actual 20th birthday shows, the rest of the time they do the original lyrics.

Su's Dad was a Punk Rocker in the 90's and has the same death glare. She learned that every time he yelled at her as a little kid. Those are Doc Marten boots, and they trash them but you can't get better.

Knew you would enjoy all of these versions. Can't go wrong with doing Karate either. The live version for that you'll want to do is likely going to be the d(r)ownload 2016 version. The audio for that specific version isn't the best but still good, however, the story behind it is what matters most about that one. Of course they kill it like they do with all of their live shows. Off this reaction, you'll really love the song they did with Tom Morello. Which the name of that song is Metali. When you get around to doing Road of Resistance, it's almost a must to do the Live in Japan version, just make sure to completely finish the video when you do, do that one.

It's funny when you think that Momoko, when she was still in Sakura Gakuin, said she would like to join juonbu (SG's heavy music club aka BABYMETAL). And then, a few years later, Su and Moa themselves were worshiping her in their knees in front of 17k people during two concerts held to celebrate her 21st birthday. Nothing can beat that.

Delightful reaction even with the...unfortunate if understandable audio lapses. And again I was shocked to hear this was an hour long reaction. It really did not feel like that. One of the things that really impresses me is your attention to detail. I mean neck brace in the thumbnail, you so called it on the whispered "dis-a-peer, things like that. I chuckled when you said that cause I knew what was coming.
I haven't read your other comments here so I may duplicate some of what folks are saying. If so sorry. A very big band in Japan formed in the 80's is called X-Japan. They've really influenced Babymetal. Their drummer and founder Yoshiki once headbanged so hard he hurt his neck and had to wear a neckbrace for a while. So the neck brace is an homage to Yoshiki.
Nobody else has either confirmed this or shot it down so I'll mention it. A source I consider fairly credible said that BM are not chanting headbanger with a cute regional colloquialism. But according to this source are actually chanting to Hedoban-the Japanese god of metal.
Also BM's iconic side to side head bang motion was the creation of their choreographer Mikko Mizuno or Mikkometal. Mikko among other things did choreography for the 2020 Olympics opening ceremony held in Japan. The girls were so young when they started this there was a concern that the traditional headbang motion could hurt their young necks.
Except when it is an "official" live video do BM use studio audio for all the vocals. Which is why it's good to check first and if it's a pro shot live everything will be live. Babymetal's tracks can get pretty elaborate so there are a lot of backing tracks used to give the fully rich multi-layered performance their music deserves. But this is no WHAM situation with BM "mouthing" the lyrics. These ladies are for real. But you obviously get that.
One final suggestion-if you haven't already cranked it out. If you're going to do a medley of "Karate" the mv for this song is very good. And no comprehensive medley of "Karate" would be complete without: Karate Live at Download Festival 2016 (link will follow). This is the girls live in front of a crowd of 60,000 drenched metalheads. That years Download Festival, variously AKA Drownload and Downpour festival. The girls and the OG Kami's we're not even sure if they'd go out because it was raining so hard. But the girls insisted that these people had come to see them and they didn't want to let them down. There is fun footage of their manager-no less-on stage before they went on with a broom trying to clear some of the water off of the stage. The words translated will explain many of the dance moves. It isn't about any smell, it is them telling crybabies to leave if they can't handle being in the mosh pit crowd. Also, the translation for the whisper part is after she says all crybabies must disappear, and it is the Japanese word for 'disappear' is what the whispered part is.
They all sang and danced in the group Sakura Gakuin. This is the group that gave rise to Babymetal. I recommend checking out some of Sakura Gakuin's music. You'll see them when they're very young. Sumetal also had a previous group, called Karen girls.

Someone else commented about Su doing the imaginary twintails, but whats even funnier is that the avengers didnt have twintails either do rhey were bothe miming that part. Also just somthing i always thought was funny about Moabanger was Moa ends up being the only one on stage with a mic so it kinda turns into a Moa solo.
My suggestion would be to go for "Doki doki morning" . This is their "first" song. If you search you will find their first public apperance in some kind of internal talent show. Full playback ofc. They were really young with improvised outfits.. Then look for later live performance. And for the end search for video from Japan where they perform with "multiverse". What's that? They have backup dancers in case some girls got sick. And in that case those girls form "shadow" Babymetal and took over.

In "Moabanger" video, there's clips from other show edited in, assuming to avoid copyright. Those clip have Momo in it. The Moabanger performance has other dancer named Kano.
And yes, Babymetal now has the weapon of Momo growls. But It's not gonna be a all the time thing since Momo's role is mostly a dancer and chanting vocals. But I'm sure they'll sprinkle it here and there.
Each Babymetal member is a great singer. Their backup dancers included. One of them, Riho, is now a solo artist. Kano, is in a J-Pop group called "@onefive".

It was written with help of Sam Totman and Herman Lee of Dragon Force. All that song is a total workout for any kind of musician. And of course one of the most recognizable visual images of BABYMETAL.
Also Rondo of Nightmare with Kami band intro (Live at Budokan) is a true masterpiece.

The Mercury mic used during this song is an homage to one of Kobametals favorite groups Queen and one of the greatest showman Freddie Mercury.
16:10 So the short version? Yes, THAT is the Kami Band. BabyMetal has had quite a few musicians join over time. You'll know the skeletons when you see them, which isn't often anymore. When BabyMetal tours outside Asia, they are joined by the Kami Band (West), which are easily recognized by the helmet type masks they wear.
Edit: There is one other version of this song. There is a very rare YuiBanger out there.
Also, you need to go and see them live. The North American tour is over, but I suspect they may be back next fall. They have a spring tour in Europe for 2025, so there is a chance. They usually take a couple months off between tours, which would line them up to go out again in late July or early August. The last two American tours began in August and go through to November. Keep an eye on their website.
