Great reaction again and thanks for the mention. Knowing the meaning of the song may make the official video make a bit more sense. The lyrics are powerful and very well written.
This song dates back to 2011 and at that time metal was effectively being bullied out of existence in Japan with hip hop and pop dominating and monopolising nearly all TV and radio air time, rock and metal had a constantly shrinking audience. The hairy guy represented the spirit of metal, so he was being bullied, having his guitar smashed, his hair cut etc by the guys in the hip hop bling .... and then he saw the writing on the rock "stand up metal" and was eventually revealed as one of the Babybones guitarists.
Yui and Moa were playing those guitars, as you said, every bit as much as the Babybones guys with their gloves on.
They played 5 songs at Sonisphere, IDZ was the last. There were over 50,000 UK metalheads there and probably less than 5% of the people there had any clue who BABYMETAL were before they started and even less of them could understand Japanese. They were there for those other bands you mentioned (who were all playing that weekend). Iron Maiden were headlining this stage later that day.
Before they went on stage the girls could not see the crowd from back stage and they were worrying what they should do if nobody was there to see them. They walked on to a sea of puzzled faces. Su is reported as having thought to herself "This will be fun. Let's knock it out of the park!"
They gained a lot of fans that day (if you did watch again did you hear the crowd shouting "We want more" and "One more song" at the end?) and their merch outsold all the big name bands playing that weekend.
The PIA Arena video missed the intro that was played before the song and Su's "La la la" at the start - both things did happen.
The first time they had a wall of death in the crowd it was a dark theatre and Su wondered where everybody had gone, all she could see was the empty space - and then they started the song and the crowd suddenly reappeared.😁

After the lyric reaction for the PIA arena, the MV made a lot more sense. I loved it. The Sonisphere performance was incredible on its own, and absolutely mind-blowing after you add in the context of the situation.

My brother, PIA Arena was Clear Night, this was the BMD/IDZ transition, there was no intro video. They went from one song straight into the other. We both watch too much BABYMETAL, it all blends together I am sure, but unless they specifically cut that for the blu-ray and wowow performances, and it was ONLY the live attendees that saw it, I am pretty sure they went from outro feedback from BMD straight into IDZ. You can even see Momo and Moa in position for it at the end of BMD.

it was the last song of five. this was their first overseas performance at a festival. they had done 1 before this out of Japan. these 5 songs changed Babymetal forever. they were added to the main stage couple months before. they sold more merch than Metallica and other big name bands. they were the talk of the festival. when you get around and watch some history of Babymetal you will understand how this performance stood out. to think Su was 16 and the other two just turned 15 years old. Su showing how to control 55,000 people that didn't know who Babymetal was. but the best version of this song is in 2019 i think where they had the 3 avengers plus had both bands, the east and the west, play together. how you have 5 girls, 2 drummers, 2 bassists, 4 guitarists, and make it all work together.

At Sonisphere 2014, is that they got a 30 minute set, but Kobametal wanted them to do a sound check, which is not normally done at festivals (which is why often the sound sucks). Sonisphere said they could do a sound check but it would come out of their time. They traded for 5 minutes of a sound check.
Of course, the sound you hear in the video is cleaned up beyond that, but people who were at the festival said they sounded fantastic.
Also this was early afternoon, which is normally a very thin on the audience side, people still waking up in their tents. There were some audience interviews about how they were dragged out of their tents by their friends who said "you have to see this, Japanese Girls in tutus!". Babymetal couldn't see the audience behind that stage, they only saw an empty piece of grass.

I have received tons of comments since I started this a few days ago. And maybe 2 out of 1,000 have been disrespectful. The One really stands up for one another and I am all about it.
This song elicited a reaction from me I wasn't prepared for. I was bullied when I was in my early teens pretty badly and this song hit me hard. I used to have such little confidence in myself, but it's people like Su was singing about in this song that make all the difference. I strive to be that person for anyone that needs it.

Su was still 14 when the music video was released.
Yui and Moa were both 13.
Those eight burnt guitars were displayed in CD shops for the release event for 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai', and then presented to winning fans.
They're among the most prized BABYMETAL collectables.
There is an alternate "Nemesis" version of this song, found on limited editions of the single.
It features guitars recorded by former Arch Enemy guitarist Christopher Amott.
Yes, Yui and Moa were playing air guitar with real guitars.
I like to say that they're playing just as well as the guys in the skeleton suits. : )
Moa can actually play the guitar, but she's admitted she doesn't practice as much as she should.
My favorite part of 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' is still the part where Su-metal threatens to kick the other members in the head if they don't stop bullying each other. : )

So enjoyable getting to follow along and vicariously relive my joy at seeing these performances for the first time, thank you!
Quick comment after the Sonisphere reaction, this is one of three times across hundreds of performances that I've seen Su-Metal even slightly break character from emotion, when she waves to the crowd at the end her joy is just breaking through. The two others are first time she saw the arena light up for a performance of "the one" in Japan, and when she yells "bring them on" in Japanese during the closing performance of "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan" where they were getting negative press from some publications calling them a fad. "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan" is one of the single best individual performances I've ever seen.

The determination on Queen Su's face at he beginning of the song, claiming her rightful throne, the little fluffy super kawaii tomato princess Yui Mizuno up on that platform facing a horde of fierce British metalheads, the Kami Band really killing it, their happy faces at the end.... it's all amazing.

Great reaction! One great thing about not knowing the lyrics: You get to fall in love with the song all over again after learning the amazing lyrics! And Babymetal knows how to touch your musical soul!
The Sonisphere video doesn’t have many views, because Babymetal has an official version of this exact video on their channel with 16M views!
Their producer, Kobametal took Babymetal to see Metallica in Japan in their very early years. The girls truly fell in love with the metal genre then, and aspired to perform and capture the crowd like Metallica did. So, I’m sure they got to see what a Mosh Pit looked like before hand 😂.
Also, Sonisphere was truly a big deal for Babymetal. Their first actual western metal fest. They won over the majority of the 50K+ crowd. Iron Maiden was the headliner that day, with Prodigy the day before, and Metallica the day after.
As you saw the lyrics, this song is an anti-bullying song. In the MV, the metalhead is being bullied by the guys in “blinged” out chains, representing J-pop industry “bullying” the metal scene in Japan, and Babymetal saves the day.
Babymetal’s lore is all about them being summoned by the Fox God to infiltrate the Idol industry by fusing J-pop and metal, to “destroy” them from within 😂.
The Pia Arena MM performance was Kami Band West, so you got to see both of Babymetal’s bands as well!

Babymetal mosh'sh pit is safe, no throwing people around, all fun. (different from sonisphere "normal mosh pit).
Lyrics/captions always a good idea if they have them ( early ones usually not), especially this song, but every song has meaning, dance reflects it always.
(There were accidents early on by Moa, Yui, Su. Yui fell off the stage, song ended with just Su and Moa; Moa hurt her leg/knee but finished the song trying to smile but you could tell she was in pain; Su slipped and almost fell but caught herself- Things have been safer since then.)

Now that you're seeing the lyrics and the meaning behind the song, you'll find that pretty much all their songs will have some kind of message that they're sending in it.

The girls were TERRIFIED. They kindof explicitely make fun of traditional metal, they're very tongue in cheek about a genre that metalheads take very seriously. They'd been told that the most rowdy, surley audience anywhere is a UK metal festival crowd and they were warned to watch out for thrown bottles (possibly not only full of water). From behind the stage, the band couldn't see the crowd and didn't think there were more than a few hundred people until they actually walked out that they saw the 50-60k people. Su still talks about this show pretty regularly in interviews. The response they got here gave them a huge boost of confidence towards beilieving that they could be an international sucess. It could be argued that this show is where they really became a metal band in their own minds.

That IDZ Sonisphere video is not that users content. That is an official BABYMETAL video reuploaded on their channel. The real video has 16M views ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html
Also PIA arena IDZ started suddenly for a reason, a different song was the intro, a song that had returned after six long years, to herald the return of the full trio (Momo's first performance as a member). I wont spoil what that was, but it had huge meaning for the fans. This moment was the official return of the New BABYMETAL, an encore to launch the future.
IDZ is one of two (actually three) show closers. Ever since Road of Resistance came out, it has been their primary show closer, with IDZ closing some special shows in encore as it is not performed very often anymore otherwise. Arkadia is the third, but that is an extremely rare song to ever be on a set, and is usually part of a two-day legend show where they avoid repeating songs. For perspective, in 2023/24 RoR was performed 144 times, most of which were show closers, IDZ 17 times (Performed in Japan, Australia, and Southeast Asia, and added as a second encore for the final two shows of the Europe and US tours), and Arkadia was performed only once.

I'm still watching the videos and the sonisphere one has a bit of a story to it and if theres been any things I've made mistakes on, i know I'll be corrected.
This was their first overseas concert and their stage basically was beside the hotdog stand because they were virtually unknown still in the metal scene.
Being a metal concert and most likely all maiden fans, they're known to be the biggest and harshest critics so you can imagine the nervousness BM was experiencing.
The day was getting worse as far as weather and no....wasnt pikachu...that was rain gear you saw.
Anyway, a few bands left because of the weather but....and known to this day....guess who never left and has never missed any of their shows....BabyMetal.
I'm not exactly sure on this but they ended up being moved to the main stage where their destiny was finalized by these bad ass critics.....
    They were more than accepted,
The whole crowd wanted them back for more.
    And the rest is history.

The MV has lore in it. Bling Guy represents Idol/pop genre who bullies and suppress all other genres. The Fox God sent 3 idol princesses to use metal to rebel. All Hail the Whiskey Prince! Sonisphere 2014 is probably the most important and courageous show they've ever done, it truly put them on the map worldwide, when you get to the Guide you'll learn more. It is great you are doing these double/triple reactions with older songs so you can see the evolution of BM, really helps appreciate what they created at such an extremely young age in a genre they weren't even familiar with, always impresses me. The real Kami bands are never part of the music videos or studio recordings, hence why they are actually not members of BM, only session musicians. IDZ is a absolute banger and great live, I'll agree that the MV is my least favorite MV but of course this was very very early in BM's career with a VERY low budget. They only have a handful of music videos so I'd say keep doing them in the double/triple reactions, LIVE is soooo much better but I still appreciate their music videos. Karate and Distortion are really great MV, you'll enjoy those. Yui's favorite food is tomatoes, including just eating them raw like an apple, honestly I do too lol. Yui was fighting that damn outfit malfunction half the song, bless her heart lol. Being a BM fan in the metal industry you will notice that even to this day there are plenty of metal gatekeepers that despise BM and feel offended that BM is metal. Can you imagine the criticism they faced way back then creating their new genre?!
Yes this was Momo's first time performing IDZ as a full member, when they come together with the thumbs up moment it had to feel amazing what Momo had accomplished to get to this point. When you learn the lyrics to many BM songs you'll discover that they deliver some very powerful messages to the world and it's fans. 99% of their shows end with Road of Resistance, a few have ended with IDZ and Arkadia.
Wow, I can tell when you discovered what this song meant in the lyrics that it really hit you hard. Totally normal man, BM has brought me to tears many times but in a good way and I'm absolutely not an emotional guy. Along with the great sounding music and amazing live shows, their songs instill very strong positive and uplifting emotions in it's fans, helping everyday people get through tough times in our lives. Many friends I have made in the BM community have shared amazing stories with me about what BM has meant to them and helped them get through life, it's been really great to discover this part of the fandom.
You have certainly learned a bunch from us fans and we appreciate you taking the time to do that, I know reading through 100's of comments is time consuming. You will still learn alot from that guide, especially the older history of when they started out and also the VERY rough time period around 2017-1018. Cya next time!

    Another good reaction.
I've been waiting for reactors to start doing double/triple reactions for some time now. it only used to happen with the trilogy of lights.
When a reactor reacted to a MV only, the comments would be full of 'you should have done the live version' comments, which is mostly true, but not in every single case. Also reacting to too many old East kami / Yui performances or too many West kami / Momo performances, sometimes creates feeling of bias or rivalry in some, and could lead to put-downs and arguments, or create misconceptions for newer fans. Some questions reactors have are answered in the next version. This multi-version format is perfect for a band/group like Babymetal that has a history and ends all these issues. Also, the reactor, far from getting bored, starts to anticipate things in the song or performance, or is surprised when something new is added.
It doesn't have to be the only way, but hopefully you are pioneering something that will become more common in future. It's already clear it works.

As usual you've caught on so quickly to so much of the lore and arcana for Babymetal. That's really nice, such a demonstration of your authenticity. This was another reaction of yours that didn't feel anything like 40 plus minutes. Watched it over dinner and had a great time.
The girls were really nervous before the Sonisphere show. You called the crowd right. Tens of thousands of notoriously cranky English metalheads. Who have never been shy about how they feel. But once again these teenagers went out in front of that crowd and just nailed it.This at an age where some kids get wound into knots doing a presentation in a school classroom.
By the way Metalica was touring Japan in Babymetal's early days. Metalica were so impressed they took Babymetal on to open some of their shows.
Two other things. Different presenters will sometimes post f'rnstance Babymetal videos on their channels just to get clicks. The only 6000 views was because it was one of those postings. The official posting of this video on Babymetal's channel has 16,000,000 views.

But what about for extended reactions to songs like Awadama Fever or Kagerou where there is limited value in watching multiple live versions from the same era. Would listening to the studio version first not enhance the best live version afterwards? I think it would, but then it's not my decision to make. And it depends on whether the reactor or viewer get something from it.

@Ryujin170 Not saying he shouldn't listen to the studio version, he was just saying he knows the studio version is the 'intended version', and well XD I don't think it is. Or it wasn't in the beginning. The last album is the first one where I was content listening to just the studio versions. And maybe half of Metal Galaxy. For a long while, they seemed to compose with the concert performance in mind. Not that they don't still keep it in mind, the chant in Metal Kingdom is tailor made for a concert setting, they just haven't put equal effort into the studio versions until recently, imo. I'm all for reacting to all the versions. Tho, part of me wants him to hear the best one first. You can only hear a song for the first time once, and I always want people to be blown away on a first listen. The later in the catalogue it gets, that becomes negligible, tho.

But with less less epic or more subtle songs, it might be better to hear them before seeing the live performance. it's not to different from an MV. It's possible they might enjoy the song more the second time. It's completely up to the reactor though.

    Excellent triple reaction... again.
And I'm late, again, and you have already 208 comments. I like to explain many things when there is the possibility, but I don't want to bother you by repeating the same.
This is just their second song, according to live performances, premiered live in July 2011. So it was probably recorded around that time and Su-metal was 13 at the time.
The Sonisphere 2014 performance is considered one of their most important moments in their career. They are totally aware of that.
That kind of crowd tend to be a bit... picky. As they have a history of booing and bottle throwing to the bands that don't match their "standards"... you know...
They also sold more merch than any other band that weekend (including Iron Maiden, Metallica, Anthrax, Dream Theater, Slayer...).
Some call this "the Sonisphere miracle" but it's not. It's all about taking what you do seriously and blending genres and different styles with respect.
Yes, the song hits different once you know the meaning. Not everything is about having fun and eating chocolate, but it's always positive and uplifting (except for "Rondo of Nightmare", probably).
Yes, BABYMETAL Begins - The Other ONE - Clear Night was Momometal's first show as a full fledged member.
"IDZ" was used there as the final encore, as an alternative to their usual "Road of Resistance", played as the first song after the opening.
They rarely perform it live today. I traveled 400 miles each way just for the possibility that they did. It was totally worth it. 😁

6:14 There is an Australian wrestler who did that. He did a Babymetal parody and wore a dress and danced with two idols. It's actually pretty good. It's called LADYBABY 'Nippon Manju'. It has like 35 million views. It was a commercial for Japanese tourism.

    I'll just add something else.
Fans could put their heads together and create a list of the ideal performances for certains songs that reactors can use as a guide if they want to. Some choices are obvious, but some should have multiple options. Not all tracks need to have 3 or more versions, and some don't have more than 2 distinctly different or historical versions anyway. I would avoid studio audio over live footage MV's (apart from gimme chocolate), but a reactor shouldn't be wary of reacting to studio audio only (preferably with lyrics) if there's only one main live version worth doing. In fact for some songs, listening to the audio, will enhance the following live performances.
Here are a few examples of my personal choices for certain songs:
'Monocrome' lyric video / piano version / PIA arena (you didn't see the lyric video, it's cool)
'BxMxC' MV / any good live version (the MV is cool as well)
'Gimmie Chocolate' original MV / Steven Colbert live version / a recent version with Momo (some else will know which is the best one).
'Kagerou' studio only / Kagerou live with kami intro (the same format for Awadama Fever and certain lesser played songs).
Tales of the Destinies' Live (The only song that needs to be seen on it's own without any preview).
'Headbanger Night of 15 mix' Legend D / Legend 1997 (worth hearing twice IMO, but there's no Momo version)
'Babymetal Death' Legend 1997 / Legend MM.
'Distortion' MV / Download 2018 version.
I think the Trilogy of Lights already works as it is.
I think i'm in the right ballpark with these choices, and I think most fans will only disagree with my choices slightly, and it's fine if they do anyway, that's the point. Iv'e been seeing what they have been recommending for years, but never got a chance to recommend any thing myself until the past few weeks.😆

IDZ is probably the first song chronologically from BM where Su really gets to shine. She could already sing quite well, but in my opinion it took a few songs before they really found the magic, at least with regard to her ability. (DDM and Iine are fine, but don't showcase her ability much)
Moa does actually play guitar, though obviously not on that video. She's not very good at it, at least she wasn't last time anyone heard. She does play once in a BM live performance; a very simple part. She also discussed playing guitar in an interview many years ago.
Yui is called the Tomato Princess because she said tomatoes were her favorite food, and if the world was ending,, she'd want to spend the last minutes eating tomatoes.

The performance at Sonisphere 2014 is known among Babymetal fans as "The Miracle at Sonisphere" because it became one of the most important performances of their career. It their first big international tour in the west, and Sonisphere was just a few weeks after Gimme Chocolate went viral around the world and they started to receive serious international attention. They were originally slated to appear on a smaller side stage at the festival, but after Gimme Chocolate went viral, and following an outpouring of fan support online, they were moved to the main stage in front of a crowd of around 50,000. At the time of this performance, Su was 16, and Yui and Moa were 15.
Most of the audience didn't know who they were and they were worried how the crowd would react given that UK festival crowds are notoriously unfriendly if they don't like what they are seeing. In subsequent interviews, the girls have said that while there were some nerves, they were mostly excited to get in front of a big crowd and show what they could do. They played a 30 minute, five song set (Babymetal Death, Gimme Chocolate!!!, Catch Me If You Can, Megitsune, and Ijime Dame Zettai), and by the time it was over, the crowd was chanting "We want more! We want more!", they sold more merch than any other band on the bill that weekend, and they were the talk of the festival. They showed that they could deliver a real live metal show and win over a hardcore metal crowd; it was the moment that Babymetal arrived as a real metal act.
Sonisphere was the beginning of a long and special relationship with the UK for Babymetal, who often call it their second home due to the warm reception they always receive when they go there. They have done a number of memorable performances in the UK and had some big moments of their career there.
The Kami Band at Sonisphere was Mikio Fujioka (guitars), Leda Cygnus (guitars), Boh (bass), and Hideki Aoyama (drums).
The girls have talked in interviews about their introduction to metal when they began training for Babymetal and they said that they were initially shocked and even a little scared, but with time they came to understand what metal was about and embraced it. Their lack of knowledge of metal is actually what led to the creation of the Fox God and the lore around the group. When they were first learning about metal, their producer Kobametal was showing them the metal horns hand sign, and they mistook it for a shadowplay fox and started doing the fox instead of the metal horns. Koba say this and thought it was a good idea, since foxes are very important in Japanese culture, and started creating a fox related backstory for the group and told them to keep doing the fox instead of the metal horns.
Yui is affectionately known as the "Tomato Princess" among fans due to her love of eating tomatoes. It came up in an interview one time where it was revealed that she liked to just eat them whole. As a result, the 🍅 emoji is often used by fans to reference Yui.
The PIA Arena performance is from Babymetal Begins - The Other One: Clear Night (April 2nd 2023), which was the second day of the two day show. Momoko was announced as the new member at the end of Black Night, and then Clear Night was her first official performance as Momometal. Most of us diehard fans were pretty sure that it was going to happen, we just weren't sure when it would occur during the show. I went to Japan for this event just so I could be there to see Momometal's debut.
