I'm a 54 year old dude and was introduced to BabyMetal this past Summer after their collab with Electric Callboy. I love these ladies, I love this band. I feel 30 years younger after listening to one of their songs or watching one of their videos

I've been listening to them for years but this year in May I'm finally going to my first Babymetal concert. Suzuka's voice is just insane...it's like a knife and cut's through everything. The "crowd control" is insane as well! One of the top 5 collabs last year was definitely Babymetal + Electric Callboy. That came out of nowhere and I love it! 👍😂
I'm now 49 years old and was always more leaning to Rock/Metal and generally darker stuff but listen basically to everything in the last 35 years.
This shifted more into the KPOP world over the last 5 years because I got bored of the general western music. There are so many talented groups and some really good producers out there that combine different styles into something new that this is now my main musical focus.
Most of that KPOP groups are unfortunately "burned" by their companies pretty quickly...and it's even bad with the western companies ripping off new talents via contracts (80% of the income is ours you can get 20% but need to pay for ....).
There are only a few exceptions and I'm glad I found "Dreamcatcher" which is basically the only group that does EDM/Rock/Metal "injected" title tracks (with a message; Scream/Boca/Maison/Vision/Deja Vu) all the time for now 8 years. Their B-sides contain more or less every genre you can think of (Jazz Bar / Silent Night / Always).
To be clear they are not a rock group but their music is a good mix of POP and EDM/Rock/Metal.
I (secretly) adopted all 7 members pretty quickly.
Once you've seen how hard it was for them all the time (because they are different, do things differently and come from a small company - they have a pretty good relationship with their CEO... he had to do a little dance at the last concert of 2024 last week! It was streamed live...he had no choice🤣) and see their chaotic self there is no way you can't!
I'm glad I was able to go to several concerts and meet them in person over the last couple of years.
Their christmas song released a few weeks back sums it up in a way musically (soft start and at some point the electric guitar kicks in and then it goes up and down) and with their self-made MV (tagged "Special Clip"... they have a bunch of those) you see how much fun they had.
I hope to see an on stage collab between Dreamcatcher and Rolling Quartz some day (RQ is an all female K-Rock group; I'm going to see them again the 3rd time within 365 days in 3 weeks 🤘).
As they know each other pretty well (official DC song "Good night" was covered "officially" by Rolling Quartz and made it on the RQ album...this normally doesn't happen).
With all the other collabs the last 18 month (Rosé+Bruno Mars, ATEEZ+BE:FIRST, Rolling Quartz+AleXa,...) I don't know why this still hasn't happened ... question for the CEO and manager in 3 weeks. They are a small company so you have a chance to directly talk to the management when they start packing the equipment. 😅
      Happy new year everyone!

Thanks for this reaction, glad you liked it.
The piano version was a few days before Momometal joined. 🙂
12:11 it almost looks like leadsinger Su-metal is about to cry but keeps singing.
The 3 in white in the piano version video probably represent the past of Babymetal.
Before you do the guide, I would recommend reacting to some of the songs from Legend 1997, which is a much earlier show (1997 is Su-metal's birth year, this is the birthday show for her turning 16) like the 3 songs it ended with:
    Headbanger, Akatsuki, Babymetal Death.
This is an automated translation of one the top Japanese comment on the piano version, I think it's part of what makes Su-metal such a great vocalist:
I was born with binaural sensorineural hearing loss. I cannot hear vowels and consonants well. I have seen many singers, but SU-METAL is the first singer that I can hear the lyrics so clearly... I was so shocked by Sonisphere in 2014 that I decided to go to a lot of live shows, buy expensive earphones... It changed my life in many ways. I have a lot of bad things to do because of my hearing loss, but I would like to thank SU-METAL for giving me the joy of listening to their songs more than anything else.
PS I would recommend to be careful when to voice how pretty they are, lots of videos Babymetal are just kids and it can become creepy if done wrong.

The PIA Arena has a seating capacity of 10,000 people.
The song "Monochrome" by BABYMETAL speaks about the themes of dreams, memories, and hope. The song is about looking at a sky filled with typical fireworks of only one color and wishing to fill the sky with a rainbow of colors. It evokes the idea that a monochromatic life is not enough, and that we must strive for a brighter, more beautiful future. The lyrics create a sense of nostalgia for the past and a longing for something better in the future, and offer a message of hope that the future will be brighter.

First of all welcome to Babymetal. It is so gratifying to watch somebody new to Babymetal who just gets it. Kudos for that. Your comments were thoughtful and enthusiastic-a great combo. And no Momo was not an official member yet. Even though she had worked with Babymetal for several years. One thing you'll discover very quickly is there is IMO no band with more lore, legacy and arcana than Babymetal. Discovering all the background to the ladies, band, history etc. is part of the journey.
Your comments were a real pleasure to listen to. Especially the attention you paid to Su's voice. It is wonderous and truly like no other. I'm happy to give you my sub. FYI: Babymetal are legendary for their live performances and as such are almost always best to react to live. By the way it was very easy to hang into your video for the whole length. Thanks for this. I look forward to more.

Great double reaction - any and every version is so good, the piano version could almost be a different song. I won't go into the deeper meaning of the song this time, that is open to our own interpretations, but it is a song full of hope taking us from our darkest hour when everything seems to be lost and there is nothing, not even the brightest stars can shine through to imagining colour in the black sky, then imagining the sky in rainbow colours and eventually believing we can illuminate the whole world in rainbow colours.🌈
PIA MM Arena is in Yokohama, Momometal's home town - it was also chosen as the place for her to be revealed as the third member (the MM was a clue nobody seemed to pick up on as we still didn't know for sure it would be her until the reveal), so this was her very first concert as an official member - even though she had been performing with them as an Avenger since 2019.
I do have a theory about the figures in white - they were providing some backing vocals in support of Moametal. We can have an educated guess at who they were, but we don't know for sure.
In my mind the fact they are dressed in white is significant. BABYMETAL have dressed in white 3 times before this and each time was a significant turning point for them.
First time they appeared in white was for the last 2 encore songs at Legend Z early in 2013. That was their last concert before they officially separated from their parent group Sakura Gakuin.
Second time Yui and Moa started the Legend 1997 concert dressed in white and making an offering in a theatrical piece to the god of metal statue. Legend 1997 was Su-metal's 16th birthday concert but it was also the last stage in their separation and the whole concert told the tale of their and Su's transition from JPop Idols to becoming an independent band and Su giving up her former life to be reborn as a Metal Goddess.
Third time was in the official mv for 'Karate' where they were conjuring up their inner demons to fight against. 'Karate' was the lead single in 2016 for their second album and that was a significant step away from the collection of singles they had released in Sakura Gakuin and some new songs that had made up the first album towards their own new and more structured second album.
The First Take video was the last one released by Su and Moa as a duo, the figures in white were there at another important change for BABYMETAL - the next video they released was another First Take one, but it was released after Momometal's reveal, so all three of them performed 'The One' unfinished version.
'The One' is a song for and dedicated to the BABYMETAL fans - also called The One of course.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。I witnessed this very performance at the arena where and when Momoko was inducted into BABYMETAL officially. I sang the ♪ oh oh ohoo ♪ part with Momometal with my loudest voice in the show holding my phone. I was in bliss, for sure!
The flying drones with cameras that enabled the beautiful aerial cinematograph were manipulated by experts including Ms. Shiraishi. She is a member of team Japan for World Drone Racing Championship.
Our Kami Band played in the girls' back. They have supported BABYMETAL since 2019. Japanese fans always appreciate the devoted support like knights by Chris, CJ, Anthony, and 3 bassists (Clint, Ryan, Matt). They are really unsung heroes.
In this first take version, the girls proved that they can do anything. They have forced people to headbang with their heavy music and sharp choreo. Now they can depict various images by just singing and project them into the listeners' brain to move people emotionally. Thank you BABYMETAL. And thank you Koba, the BM producer, for your serendipity. Some 14 years ago, you certainly discovered something amazing and sacred for us.
Speaking of the three figures in white hood adding some background vocals, they are homage to BM's girlhood with original three girls.

    So what is Monochrome about?
    Short answer: we don't know.
But, there's the lyrics video, it depicts the monochromatic firework as an atomic bomb mushroom looming over a city, the same city is seen destroyed as the song enters the second part, there's the black rain of a fallout and there are ☂️ umbrellas falling from the sky, they are a shield against the rain, and arguably a symbol of hope as the last shield against the effects of the war. There is a sequence where we can see the atmosphere of the planet burn, pretty much like in the movie Oppenheimer. There are images of the loto flower, which symbolize many different concepts, among which revive, reborn. And then we see the tree, which is the Hibakujumoku, surrounded by other burned trees. IMHO it's not the Tree of Life from the Norge tradition, even though there's a reference to the Ragnarok, meaning apocalypse cause, as said, the tree is surrounded by dead, burned down trees.
So, is it about Hiroshima bombing? Not specifically, though it's referenced, it's definitely about hope during the harshest time, hope incarcerated by the children who survive the most dreadful horrors of war. Indeed, during war, colours fade away, and everything becomes dull and monochromatic.
Is it a positive song, as SU said?
Definitely, even through despair, hope leads the way to a new, peaceful time, and, in the end, we will have it, we will bring back the colours of a peaceful world.
During the show, on many occasions, in the middle break, SU begins saying: "Please😅, help me bring some light into this dark, dark world."

The piano version still gets me every time, no matter how often I listen to it. Su‘s voice is simply the most beautiful sound my ears have ever had the pleasure to sense. And as you said, her clear enunciation really stands out. That’s another thing that I like about that performance: You can see that this is not a coincidence. She is clearly putting a lot of thought and work into making it sound that clear by carefully shaping her mouth, controlling her breath etc.
I didn’t get the lyrics‘ connection to the bombing at first. Interestingly, after it had been brought to my attention, the song made more sense and hit much harder. It also felt much sadder, especially considering that Su is from Hiroshima (even though she called it a positive song herself).

The thing that gets me is the, for lack of a better term, PURITY of it. Don't get me wrong, their live shows are absolute BANGER...the dancing, the kami band, and (dear gods!) the CROWDS! all amazing. But this? this pares all that away...no band, no dancing, no lights, no pyrotechnics...just a piano, and Su-metal's amazing godly voice. And the FEELS, man...the FEELS :) Espcially given that one of the interpretations (that is, I believe, by no means official, but fairly commonly held) is that a lot of the imagery in the song refers to *the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima* (i.e. 'monochrome firework'), combined with the fact that Su-metal is FROM Hiroshima (I believe). Well, as much as I like the live version, the First Take version always hits me more in the feels because it's had all the glitz, all the glamor peeled away and all that's LEFT is the feels...if that makes sense?

Great double reaction, and merry Christmas! "Monochrome" is such a crowd pleaser 😊 The "full on Metal" version, I mean. The "f1rst take" version though is a totally different beast. Pure Su-Metal. Hits so differently! She was chosen for her extremely powerful and unique voice, as well as her ability to transport emotions using her voice. She´s a master in doing this.
Yes, Momometal wasn´t officially full member yet, that´s the case with the PIA Arena MM (got it? 😉) live performance. And everything after that. She was one of three backup dancers, called "Avengers", to fill in the 3rd spot since 2019, and towards the end of 2020 she was the only "Avenger" left. Some of THE ONE (me included) called for making her a full member for some time, and on April 1st 2023 this wish was fulfilled.
She had an appearance on f1rst take channel though, "THE ONE - Unfinished ver. / THE FIRST TAKE". Oh, yes, "The One" should be on your list, too! 😄

I've been a fan for 10 years, and every time they release new music I worry that it'll finally be the album where they just lean into the gimmick and start to copy their earlier stuff...and they never have. Monochrome is such a unique, hooky, bizzare, and beautiful banger.
It's looking like they're ramping up for a new record in the summer, nothing officially announced, but they're hinting at something new coming. So you've got a few months to catch up before getting to experice a non-historic BABYMETAL song :)
Don't sweat the lyrics on a first listen...you're getting it. The reason they work internationally is because they're so expressive with the vocals and the choreo and the music that the language barrier sort of doesn't matter. You can read em if you want, just don't feel like you need to, it's sort of great to turn off the thinking part of your brain and let the performance wash over you.
Monochrome is a bit of an enigma, it seems to be about a lot of things, and something that might help you to work it out is to know that Su was born in Hirosima.

The BM fanbase is pretty huge and worldwide, you will draw a great community to your channel on this journey, we will help educate you on all the BM history and lore. The joy and positivity the ladies instill to us fans is infectious, making the world a better place. Monochrome has been my number one song ever since I saw this PIA performance on my first bluray I bought, have watched it a ton of times since. The First Take version gets me watery eyed every time bro, incredible. Su's voice and emotion was so raw during it, she has easily become my favorite vocalist ever. A tip I'd suggest during this journey is you watch every video without subtitles so you can focus on enjoying the performance with no distraction. Afterwards you really need to go back and watch every video a few more times to notice and enjoy many things you will miss, plus many songs you will enjoy even more with each listen. Many BM songs I didn't like much after one listen, now I enjoy almost every single one, some grow on you. That song is something else. Experienced it live twice now, first time here in Germany and the second time at Fox_Fest in Japan last year...Man it is hard to describe what's going on in your head when you're there. People got their phones ready when it started and the moment the pause came, the lights went on almost immediately. People just knew what to do, Su saying it is just a formality at that point.
Momo was practically part of BM at that point (not officially tho), that's why Su called her Momo-Metal and they pulled her over, Avengers weren't allowed to get close, so they were standing usually separate to Su and Moa that's why Momo, probably out of habit, was standing a little bit away from them until they got her to the place where she belongs :)
Plus the fact she had a mic speaks for itself since Avengers were'nt given mics for some reason that probably only the Foxgod knows.

Many people interpret this song as expressing sadness not only about the sad atomic bombs of the past, but also about the wars that are still occurring around the world.
Ragnarok is the end of the world in Norse mythology, and it is feared that humanity itself is heading toward extinction.
Still, I think it conveys a positive attitude toward changing monochrome fireworks (bombs exploding at night) into peaceful, ordinary fireworks.

@@Thefoxgod9 The person who wrote the lyrics (mk-metal) was different to the music writer (Yuyoyuppe), but yeah it's completely possible the lyrics could have been inspire by that event, or it used it as an analogy and the video director could have seen it as that. But Su didn't know it was about Hiroshima, so it's likely that the lyric writer didn't want it to be viewed as that only, or she probably would have been told before the video was created. I always point to the inkblot patterns in the lyric video and the 'what will we see' line as a semi-hidden message about the subjectivity of the song.

(Disclaimer: i studied English at school long time ago, so it can be poor. I`m sorry).
What is amazing about BM is how welcoming and friendly fandom they have. And i think i know why. To understand and accept BABYMETAL you need an open mind, the ability to push the old boundaries in your head. Either you like pop or metal it doesn`t matter now. You are among friends. That`s what unites theese people of all ages from 10 to 70, from different countries and cultures.
I was passing by this band for so long (despite Yuotube suggestions), but RATATATA (their 50/50 collab with Electric Callboy) broke my resistance this spring. I decided to listen to some more of them and fell in love. BM brings happiness and uplifting feel in my beloved heavy music. Never thought i need it, but here i am.
As for the meaning of their songs, you must understand that Girls (Ladies already) themselves dont write lyrics and music (except several ones). The stuff is usually made by best songwriters in Japan, picked up and filtered by the founder and producer of BM Key Kobayashi, aka Kobametal. All theese authors can bring their own thoughts and feelings in the songs, including that massive national trauma (of course Japan was not innocent victim but let it be a history. Anyway nowdays Japan is much more pleasant place).
Japaneese venues have strict rules of behavior. Those who use their phones and disturb other people can be driven out of place. And BM`s girls do their best in choreo and singing. But outside of Japan they have some more space to have fun and interact with audience. Neverthless their dancing and singing are also top notch. And fancam recordings bring us tons of joy watching theese moments.
    Good luck!

It's kinda cool to see the different reactions these girls illicit from different fans. You have the older fans that have watched the girls grow from the 14/12 years old girls that they were when they first started to what they are now, and those fans think of these girls as their little sisters, almost like their little daughters even. As such songs like this typically has an emotional response from those fans. I can PROMISE you there are a number of fans that watch this video and tear up every time they watch it. Then you have the newer fans like yourself whom, while you don't get emotional, you DO become awestruck and amazed. I think it's really cool personally how this band reaches out to so many different people and we all have a different reaction, albeit equally powerful reaction to them.
One of my favorite Babymetal moments is when even SU was awestruck for a split second and she lost her persona of the Queen. You remember when you commented with Headbanger about her Deathglare and how she truly IS the queen? Well, there is one video where she loses her composure for just a SPLIT second. That is my favorite Babymetal moment. Song name is "The One" (It's a love letter to the fans pretty much) From Tokyo Dome 2016. There's a moment when all the laser lights turn off and the arena goes pretty dark, but, I believe, unbeknownst to the girls, all the fans were given wristbands that lit up when remotely activated by the lights specialists or somebody, and when that moment happened, Su's jaw fell for just a second as she saw all the lights. She VERY quickly snaps out of it and gets back into character, but for just that split second, you got to see a side of her we rarely get to see, and it was magical in my opinion.
As for you criticizing yourself on your "horrible" job as a RUclipsr. Don't worry, you're already doing a lot better than other RUclipsrs. You don't over react like some (it gets fake, old and annoying REALLY fast when they do that), your sound quality is actually quite good, you already rewind a little when you pause to comment, and you seem pretty honest about your reactions. We as the viewers really don't ask for much, and you're already pretty much filling in all the requirements, so don't worry, just keep doing what you're doing. If we have any suggestions or critiques, we'll let you know. Otherwise, just assume you're doing ok! :)

Don't worry about the video length. The Babymetal guide is about 50 minutes long, and I'll tell you that most of us will sit through all of it. At least I will. 🤣
You did pronounce "Megitsune" correct. And since you did this double reaction, perhaps you could do Megitsune's music video and live double reaction. If you want to make some comparison. Babymetal don't have many proper music video, but the one they have are definitely fun. Just note that Megitsune is an older song, so the music video features the younger version of them.
And be careful with "Headbanger", since there's multiple version, and special version of it. Best to listen to the original first before listening to the other special versions.
    This performance of it is the original version;
Babymetal - "Headbanger" Live at Budokan 2014. There is also a music video if you want to make comparisons.
    ruclips.net/video/RPVmkUEo2IQ/видео.htmlsi=IxaA0LodcySEf9G1

    There are several possible meanings:
    1. According to the official video (animation), the art and lyrics of the song could lend themselves to being a message alluding to the episode of the atomic bombs in Japan. Suzuka is precisely from Hiroshima.
    2. It is a message of support for all those who are going through or have gone through something sad. It simply moves your soul and helps you shed those tears that are necessary at some point.
    3. A dedication to Yuimetal in the piano version. She had to retire due to health problems some time ago, remaining for several years as a duet. This is further reinforced by the three entities holding hands, although it could also mean the imminent introduction of Momometal, or both.

Babymetal songs are about what you personally feel and think they are about. The lyrics often leave room for interpretation.
The Hiroshima specific / war in general comes from the official lyric video that shows a devastated city and uses lots of symbols for example towards the end a single tree that survived which can be seen as a reference to a tree that stand in a park in Hiroshima that survived the atomic bomb. Also monochrome firework can point towards a nuclear explosion as people say such an explosion is a bright white flash that makes all colors fade.
But the video apparently is the interpretation of the director. What the songwriter had in mind, we don't know.

Don't feel like you have to talk to fill quiet portions like the lead-ins to live performances. That atmospheric music is there to build tension towards the start of the song, and you're robbing yourself of the feeling it creates live, it's not empty filler. Remember how dramatically Monochrome crashed in for the PIA Arena show? Well, it should have been _more_ dramatic for you, if you'd let the intro section breathe and experienced it from the start as intended. Next time you watch that video on your own, do it from the very start, and feel the atmosphere and the building anticipation of what you now know is coming.
A tip: when you stop the video to comment, I'd recommend going back five seconds (there's a hotkey) before resuming. Especially if you're stopping in the middle of something to get a thought out immediately instead of waiting for a clear break in the music. You missed something special from Su-metal's performance on the First Take because you split what she was doing vocally in half with a pause, so you actually did not hear it.

While, yes the atmospheric music adds to the mood, the ACTUAL, more subtle, reasoning behind it I think is to allow the girls a minute to rest and get a drink before their next performance. Very few bands expel as much energy doing a concert as these girls do, and while you might not see it as much now, when they first were starting out and for the first few years, you'd see these poor girls sweating up a storm come the end of their shows. Now it isn't as bad, and I think a large part of that has to do with these mini intermissions between the songs. These intermissions also allows for the concerts to last longer so fans feel like they got their money's worth more, because, when you go to a regular metal concert or really ANY other concert, the band in question typically will perform for a couple hours, heck, Amon Amarth, even had 1 concert that was over 4 hours. Four hours of JUST Amon Amarth performing, not including the opening band. That's insane! So these intermissions allow the girls to catch their breath a little before their next song I'm pretty certain. It's just done in a very graceful, subtle, and elegant way so it isn't noticed.

Great stuff 🤘🏼🦊🦊🦊🤘🏼 New Sub 🤘🏼 BTW Don’t be afraid to watch and REACT to the same song at different years and shows. You get a real feel on how they grew over the years. Su’s voice, as she has matured has gotten phenomenal. Headbanger for instance has 4 different versions where Su hands the mic over to Moa and Momo to finish the song. Headbanger is about coming of age in the Fox lore. Their first song was iine as a MV. 🤘🏼

In case the other 179 comments haven't mentioned it, the other three girls in white robes in The First Take are a spinoff group called Metalverse, although they weren't announced yet at the time. They are MIko Todaka as the lead singer in the center, and their scream and dance supports are Sakia Kimura on the right, Kokono Kato on the left.

    Great reaction, subbed.
When it comes to Babymetal the more reactions the better. There is a trend for double or even triple reactions happening for Babymetal, and they seem to go down well. 1 is fine, 2 is good, but 3 is the magic number if possible. Some songs have equally good MV's and live performances both old and new. Megitsune, Karate and Doki Doki morning are prime examples of having all 3. You could do the MV, Old performance with Yui and the most recent performance with Momo. I would watch all 3 for sure. But there are some songs that are only in one live format like Rondo of Nightmare or Believing, or have an MV but are only in in post Yui era like BxMxC. I'm sure fans will recommend the best choice of perfromances.

    • @ShadeReactsLive
      @ShadeReactsLive  19 дней назад +2

Love this idea! I think I’ll do test this out with the Megitsune reaction I plan to do today. I’ll do the MV, an older performance and then a newer one. I worry it might be too repetitive for the audience watching to listen to me reacting to the same song 3 times, but I’ve learned over the past couple of days that this community is way more devoted than any other fan base. So I think I’ll do that today!

@@ShadeReactsLive Cool. I know that longer term fans fans will probably appreciate it, we have seen some of these songs hundreds of times lol. I'm not sure about more casual fans, but they can watch whatever parts they want to see.
Also listening to the song multiple times makes the following live versions better for the reactor because I've seen it happen. They just build on top of each other. Like I said, not every song needs multiple versions. some only need one, but some classics are worth it. It looks like this reaction got a good reception anyway.

    Monochrome By Babymetal:-
It's really atmospheric which I like. "Divine Attack" brought the hype and "Monochrome" brought beautiful vibes. The next single will bring the heavy vibes I hope. Well, this song certainly shows that the few second snippets don't really spoil or give away the songs at all. The chorus with the is catchy, but the drum riffs are the jam for me upon first couple of listens. Since the snippets don't reveal the songs, I'm wondering if the five songs that will be released aren't gonna reveal the final album as a concept album, once released and listened to in full and in sequence, as most concept albums are meant to be listened to. Being that this album is conceptual, and should probably be listened to as a whole and in order, this could be a fun slow-burn reveal to. As of now only two original Babymetal are in the current status, Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-Metal, Main Vocalist) & Moa Kikuchi (Moametal, Backing Vocals). The third member Momoko Okazaki (Momometal, backing vocals) becomes Babymetal official 3rd member On April 1, 2023, during the Babymetal concert "Babymetal Begins: Black Night" at the Pia Arena MM in Yokohama, Momoko Okazaki was officially announced as their new member with the stage name "Momometal". Later that year, her vocals were featured in the spoken section of Babymetal's digital single "Metali!!".

    Overview Lyrics:-
Nanairo's dream that colors the sky

You don't have to say it, you don't have to say it
You don't have to say it, you don't have to say it
    Because I'm getting cold ah

Part of the purpose of the long intros is to give the girls a change to catch their breath between songs. They're super fit, but they still need a moment to drink some water, fix their hair, and wipe off some of the sweat from their performance. A Babymetal show is 90 minutes of high intensity performance with only these small gaps between songs.
I was at PIA Arena for this performance and I can tell you it was absolutely magical. Easily the best concert I have ever been to. PIA Arena holds about 12,000 people, so it's on the small side for the kind of venues that Babymetal normally plays in Japan. Usually when they perform in Yokohama, they play Yokohama Arena, but it was booked for another event that weekend, so they had to play the smaller PIA instead. It meant that tickets for this show were particularly difficult to get.
Photography and videoing is strictly forbidden at Babymetal shows in Japan. They staff at the venue a quite rigorous in enforcing it too. I've seen people get ejected for filming before. The first time Su-metal told us to pull out of phones, we were all confused, but what the Queen wants, the Queen gets, so we did it anyway even though the announcements before the show all say no phones.
The First Take performance was filmed in March 2023, which was before Babymetal Begins (the PIA Arena show), which is when Momoko was announced as the new official third member. At this time this released Babymetal was just Su and Moa, as it had been for the past five years since Yuimetal's departure in 2018.
Babymetal never explain what their songs are about. They like to leave it up to the listener's interpretation. There are a few fan interpretations, but no-one knows for sure.
Gotta say, I really appreciate your totally non-"RUclipsr" approach to the whole thing. It's fun to see someone becoming a fan in real time!.

First verse is essentially a child's perspective witnessing the atomic bomb explode several hundred feet over Hiroshima. The explosion was so bright it bleached the sky of all colour.. A monochrome firework. 2nd verse is the child alone in the aftermath of the devastation, no power, black rain. 3rd verse is the turn towards hope, creation, possibility and joy. Its a song about impermance, not just of the things we cherish but also the impermance of hardship and that we have a choice in how we move forward.

    • @Tyyppl
      @Tyyppl 18 дней назад +5

I think you should have cleared up that the meaning of the song has never been told us by the band itself and the atomic bomb stuff is just fan speculation.
Only reason I don't think that speculation is correct is that Su-metal said in a interview last year that she was surprised that people felt that Monochrome is a sad song. And I find it really hard to believe that a person born in Hiroshima of all places would ever be surprised that a song about atomic bomb would be sad to people.

    • @danbadd
      @danbadd 18 дней назад +4

@@Tyyppl Nothing to clear up mate. The song lyrics clearly match descriptions of atomic bombs and the subsequent fallout. The video clearly depicts an atomic bomb blast, the fallout and finishes with a Hibakujumoku (Survivor Tree). The only reason you have to doubt it is a misunderstanding of the context of what Su had said. I agree with her: It's not a sad song. It's a heartfelt song. The song isn't about the atomic bomb and death; it's about hope. Her surprise is likely due to Western audiences largely lacking dialectical thinking and unable to conceive that a positive song could contain a heavy backdrop.

The monochrome firework is a metaphor for an unexpected event that drains the color from your life. The imagery from the LV and reference to Ragnarok are at the extreme but could be a more personal loss. The lyric video is seen as a tribute to the Hiroshima nuclear victims. But, alas, WWII remains a sensitive topic: Japanese right & left wings, plus neighboring Korea & China, all exploit the issue for nationalist purposes, let alone guilting Americans whose forefathers had dropped the bombs. As a result, both Su (who's from Hiroshima) & Kobametal have declined to acknowledge the reference, saying it was the MV director who chose the war imagery.
The First Take piano version is seen as an ode to BM's younger selves. The hooded-girls motifs, as well as some of the props & thematic aesthetics, are reminiscent of BM's Karate MV (2016), which Su had already corroborated as themselves metaphorically battling 'monsters' (haters) & encouraging one another (a la BM's Ijime Dame Zettai (2013) which had addressed teenage bullying). Except the online hectoring from metal gatekeepers & snobbish journalists were genuine in real life. BM had initially rebutted the brickbats by unleashing the astounding 'Road Of Resistance Live In Japan' at their domestic homecoming in early 2015 (when the girls were merely 17 & 15). BTW There's a seismic plot twist at the end of the Karate MV as well.
The 2013 PIA Arena live version (subsequently repeated at future BM concerts) is seen as a celebration with the fans who have accompanied them throughout their long career. BM had endured a difficult transition in 2018 (when Yui was mysteriously sidelined & ultimately quit the group; beloved Kami guitarist Mikio Fujioka also died after a tragic fall) & underlying uncertainty between 2018-2023 (officially a duo, but briefly performed live as a quartet, then septet, then continuously with a rotating 3rd member) when the uneasy ambiguity caused many supporters to drift away. Fortunately, their old concert videos would win over a new generation of online fans during the pandemic.

Momoko was not an official member of BABYMETAL at this time (even though she was performing with them since 2019). Yui Mizuno was the original third member but left in 2018 because of health reasons - Suzuka and Moa still consider her a member as they were like family. Suzuka and Moa continued as a duo until April 1 2023 when Momoko became official.
No one could just step in and replace Yui so they waited 5 years before they committed to make sure Momoko was the right fit in terms of talent, work ethic, discipline and character.
Momoko has turned out to be the perfect choice.

I don't agree with the standard interpretation usually given to this song. To me, the first time I heard it, it struck me as as a longing to be with the one you want, and the frustration and sadness because you can't. To my knowledge, no member of BM has ever said it's about the nuclear bomb, and it never struck me as such. It's about loss, yes, but I hear it as a lost or unrequited love Just my 2¢.
