Queen Sumetal (Suzuka Nakamoto) Myths, True or Unconfirmed?
    1) Upon birth, Baby Su let out a prefectly pitched wail that startled the entire maternity ward. - Unconfirmed.
    2) As a very young girl, Su drove her family crazy singing inside their small Japanese house. - True, (Su has talked about this).
    3) In 2006, At the age of 9, Su and her older sister Himeka formed the Idol duo Tween. - True
    4) In 2010, when Su joined the school-themed Idol Group Sakura Gakuin, she commuted from her home town of Hiroshima to Tokyo 4 times a week by train (one way, 4 hr.s). True
    5) Su can "throw her voice". - unconfirmed
    6) Su uses very little little vibrato. - True
    7) Su is considered a sporano w/ a vocal range of G3 to F#5. True (Perhaps Su's greatest demostration of her high range is in Babymetal's rarely performed masterpiece, From Dusk Til Dawn, Budokan 2021).
    8) Su almost always sings "live" at shows. - True (She has said she owes it to the fans who came to see Babymetal).
    9) Su almost never makes a mistake. - True
    10) When performing around the World, Su learns enough language to interact w/ the fans in their native tongue. - True
    11) Su has traveled in a "Mint Flavored Time Machine". - Unconfirmed
    12) Su practices singing on a treadmill. - Unconfirmed
Seriously, probably the best place to see Su's masterful vocal ability is her amazing performance of BM's Monochrome (The Piano Version) on the Japanese You Tube channel, The First Take.
It would be a good place to start (Bring the tissues).

The 2 known lip sync times.. a dub step version of head banger from legend 1997 concert. She was carried around the stage quite a lot so could not sing live, then crucified on stage later ;)
There was a concert a couple of years ago where it was speculated she had COVID and had to be helped off stage by Moa as she was so ill. She was lip syncing then.
In both cases su-metal is crap at lip syncing

Welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 I will risk writing far too much, but you did have questions.😉
BABYMETAL formed in 2010, there were 3 original members (they were only 12 and 11 years old at that time) and we have watched them grow up and become one of the very best live acts on the planet.
BABYMETAL are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and Momometal (in charge of backing vocals, harmonies and mainly hyping and involving the crowd with their choreo).
The original third member Yuimetal last performed in October 2017 and was absent for 12 months for undisclosed health reasons until she announced she was still not fully recovered and would be leaving the band.
Su and Moa continued as a duo for 4-5 years supported by 3 dancers who would take turns in the third spot. From about March 2020 only one of those dancers remained and finally that dancer - now known as Momometal - was revealed as the new official third member (and finally got a microphone) on 1st April 2023.
They are supported in all live shows by the Kami Band (long story, I'll try to keep it short - there are effectively two Kami Bands - East and West). East Kamis are the best Japanese session musicians you could hope to find and supported BABYMETAL since 2012 (they were phased in gradually over about 18 months playing a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows and became the full time support from March 2014) until their last appearance (to date) in January 2023.
West Kamis are American musicians who first appeared in 2019 to play initially in the lengthier foreign tours and they have been ever present since April 2023.
Early on BABYMETAL didn't have the funding for a live band (very early on they even had to borrow clothes to make their first stage outfits). Legend 1997 in December 2013 was the last show where the Kami Band played only the encores (they came on for the last 5 songs). If you see guys in skeleton suits they were known as Babybones and were a fake band miming the instruments which were pre-recorded - the vocals would have been live.
BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they brought a fusion of great metal instrumentals coupled with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics to create their very own sub-genre (Kawaii Metal - kawaii meaning cute or adorable) and they have continued to develop and evolve from those beginnings.
They don't limit themselves to any one main style or genre and you won't be able to pigeonhole or put them in any one box like you can with virtually every other band in the world. They are one of a kind and they invented their own genre and style that nobody has been able to copy successfully (some have tried, none came close) including bringing choreographed dancing to metal (but not as you might know it from pop acts where it is nearly always used just to fill the stage or give you almost naked girls (and boys) to look at to take your mind off often bland music).
BABYMETAL's choreo helps with interpreting the song - a lyric or the meaning etc, but it is designed to involve and lead the crowd, to give them their cues when to jump, shout, pump their fists, chant and so on. BABYMETAL are complete masters of crowd control and crowd involvement.
They have nearly 70 songs now, every one of them is different from the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres with the metal, often when you least expect it. Some songs lean towards their pop roots others are just good hard metal and they do everything in between - so if you don't like one song no problem - try another, the chances are you'll love it.
For an early song try 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (Bullying, No More, Forever) live at Sonisphere 2014 - their first time in the UK, their first major event and metal festival outside of Japan. Aged 16 and 15 and with over 50,000 UK metalheads who don't understand any Japanese to impress. IDZ was the last song of the 5 they played that day - you will hear what the crowd thought at the end.

Few things to point out from your comment that amaze me. 12 years old and performing metal has to be an insane devotion. @@ShadeReactsLive They started as a sub-unit of a JPop Idol group for girls aged 10 to 15 as an idea of their producer (a lifelong metalhead) who was inspired after seeing and hearing Su-metal perform with her previous group. Nobody expected them to be anything more than a short lived experiment.
They somehow found an audience nobody knew existed and got popular enough that they separated from the parent group in 2013 after Su turned 15.
They got so much hate early on (there is still a little around, but only from people who have never listened to them or seen them live or jealous fans of other bands).
They started off playing tiny venues to 150 people and for free in shopping malls as they perfected their craft and gained experience.
Sonisphere 2014 was a big moment for them - that was when they felt accepted and got the confidence to go on from there.

welcome to the family Shade-Metal, as long as you don't throw shade at our Sacred Ladies of BABYMETAL, you will have a fun-filled, amazing journey down the fox-hole into another world, the BABYMETAL world or universe or Metalverse, they are heavy on Lore and storylines. It would be simple to just react to the hits, but for a more immersive experience, I highly recommend a deep dive into their wide variety of genre bending metal and world cultures, my list starts with "From Dusk Till Dawn" Live at Budokan 2021, and then the trilogy of lights: "Starlight, "SHINE", and "Arkadia", and some of their songs they do different versions of, to the point of sounding like different songs, a few great examples are "Monochrome" Piano version, as well as the Live full metal version, another great one is a Su-Metal solo called "Akatsuki" the Unfinished version with piano and strings or the full metal version with guitar solos and or a simulated fight scene between two backup dancers, not to mention the 6 or so different versions of "Headbanger", really the list of top notch performances by BABYMETAL is pretty much endless and inspiring.we also have a few guides for new fans to help understand how in the world this thing happened and lots of interviews to get to know these three wonderful ladies. I will leave you with a saying that I find to be true: If you let them into your heart they will heal thy soul.

  • @Ganimal83
    @Ganimal83 3 дня назад +13

Hell yeah, dude! Welcome to Babymetal, I think you'll enjoy this journey down the Babymetal Fox Hole!
I'll try to summarize a bunch of things to answer your questions:
*On NEX_FEST:* A multi-day festival, hence the different outfits worn by Oli. In the video's description, the creator listed all his sources.
*Age:* Original member Su-metal (lead) just turned 27 on Dec 20th, along with Moa-metal (25), the headbanging queen. The new member Momometal (left side), is 21.
*Overview:* Babymetal fuses J-Pop and Metal, both musically and culturally. Like a pop act, they are singers and dancers, but like a metal band, they have some of the best session musicians backing them live (Kami Band). But officially, Babymetal is just the 3 girls. Also, you like a lot of genres? Great! Babymetal pretty much does every genre with metal, besides country 🤣.
*"How to do reactions":* 100% do the live! Babymetal is by design, a live performance group (14 MVs for ~70 discography). "For The Fox God" channel is a great source of HQ, subtitled videos with proper live audio. On the Babymetal channel: If the title does not have the word "LIVE" in it, the audio will be studio (MV or over live footage). You can do reactions chronologically to see them grow from 12/11-year-olds in 2010's founding to mid-20s today, or mix and match, or however, you like. Completely up to you.
*On Babymetal's vocals:* Lead Su-metal sings 100% live, with a few tracked moments for effects or performance reasons. Early career, she would sing some songs over a minor track of her own vocals. But that's no longer the case as of the past few years. Moa and Momo are an even mix of live and lip-syncing since they do the majority of the intense choreography. Babymetal live footage is all typically from concert Blu-Rays and is mixed very well (live audio). They will touch up on the vocals slightly. Lead Su-metal is an absolute powerhouse vocalist, but she is not perfect. I can attest to how good she is live since I just saw them 1 month ago in DC. VERY FEW barely noticeable off-pitch moments.
Look forward to your amazing Babymetal journey! 🤘🦊

Welcome to Babymetal and welcome to Japan. If you really want to know deep about Babymetal there is a pretty comprehensive guide video that a lot of people react to that will give you a totally overview of who they are and where they came from. They are entering their 15th year as a band (yes that's right) and the oldest and lead singer Su-Metal just turned 27 (yes that's right, you can do the math!). Also this will probably lead you to find other J-Metal/Rock as it usually does for everyone, even me, who found this band in 2015 and has just become the biggest Japanese music fan.in the subsequent years. But starting out I would first discover the big four in the scene which are, Babymetal (of course), Band-Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila. They are the most related to and most popular and each offer a very different sound.

A lot of these bands have their own genre Babymetal created a genre called Kawaii-metal. (Kawaii=Cute).

Since you started with Babymetal as your first reaction and wanna know more about the girls I suggest watching "The Not So Extensive Guide to Babymetal". Also... when it comes to Babymetal, live versions is the best choice for reacting to Babymetal as they are definitely better live and most of their songs are written with the crowd in mind. Like almost every song has a part where the crowd can join in plus you can see that every song, even features from other artists they have choreography and you appreciate that more when watching their Live performances and you will meet the Kami Band (Babymetal's backing band) litterally deserve the "Kami" which stands for God. It seems like a lot of people have been enjoying this format. I sure have! It lets me see the original production, their early live shows, and how the band and the girls have evolved over the past decade. If you like that format, check out some of my other videos!

Great reaction. Welcome to the Fox hole. Babymetal will be something you would have never experienced before. And if you think they're young now, wait till you see how young they were when they first started 14 years ago. I'm sure many other commenters will give you ample recommendations from their 50+ songs. We look forward to seeing more from you. Btw, head on over to the Babymetal Reactor's guide, you'll get tips on avoiding copyrights on BM videos.
Funny you should mention Babymonster. Cause that's another girl group you should react to. They are a kpop girl group that debuted last year, and they have very talented vocalists. More so than many kpop groups of late.

I don think there is a specific order you have to listen to them but it wouldnt hurt to start from the beginning! i think itll be a great way to see where they started from and where they are now! get ready to be blown away on every listen because they do not have a bad song at all!!

Yes, Babymetal is insane. The idea itself is insane, but they are also insane performers.
Interesting how you found a video which wasn't official, an edit made my fans, a compilation of all (if I remember correct) 4 performances - BMTH had a festival which performed in 3 different locations, 4 days in total, twice in Tokyo if I remember correctly. It was in 2023 first time this festival existed, going around Japan. BMTH actually opened for Babymetal in 2019 in Japan and Oli stated he believed it made BMTH a bunch more popular in Japan. BMTH and Babymetal knew each other since 2015 when Babymetal were still kids at rock/metal festivals and BMTH were one of the other youngest band members at the festival and they kind of drawn to each other (they kind of felt they might need to take these kids under their wings) and became friends. Kingslayer was made in 2020. Why I'm saying it's interesting you found this video, because the official live on the Bring Me The Horizon channel has 9.5 million views. Anyway, the year after Babymetal organized 2 days of FOX_FEST (Babymetal lore includes foxes) and invited other foreign acts to perform there, to introduce to the Japanese audience.
9:05 that girl, well young lady is probably more appropriate these days, is Moametal.
Babymonster is from South-Korea, they do pop, so that's why it's called K-Pop.. Babymetal mixes is some pop parts and are from Japan, so they have J-Pop influences.

I'm a bit jealous that you're starting out new, I've only been a fan for 2 and a bit years, I remember the joy at listening to Babymetal for the first time 🙂
    Babymetal is always best live. They have some good MVs, but their live performances are amazing; the crowd are an active part of the performance. My advice is to watch these three to start;
Headbanger live at Legend 1997, from 2013. This still blows my head off, and Su was only 16 then, Moa and Yui were 14.
Ijime Dame Zettai (No More Bullying Forever) live at Sonisphere 2014, where three tiny Japanese girls in red tutus mesmerised 50,000 British metalheads and broke out.
Megitsune music video. One of their best MVs, and pure magic. Otherwise live is still best.
I suggest watching their early stuff for a few songs, then jump around as you like. Early is good as you will see that they were superstars from the start.
Have fun, and we'll be watching 🙂

Oh, YT didn´t let me find your first reaction for some hours... now I´ve got it! Nice first reaction! This video is live performance, but it is the studio audio. The "Let´s go Tokyo!" is simply mixed in.
But fear not, Su-Metal sings this live (she always sings live!), and she is amazing singing it live! Omajination (channel) has at least a fancam compilation, so you could hear the real live, although not the best audio quality. This includes the part when she hopped while singing. Correct pitch, of course 😉 Su-Metal is an amazing live singer.
The song is simply awesome, highest energy!
So you´ve got an example of Moametal´s awe inspiring headbanging. She does it at every live concert, and most of the time she finds somebody to fight a "Hedoban battle" with. Great fun to watch. She´s so frikkin´ fast in her movements, you could almost feel the gust of wind hitting you, when her double pigtails whip towards the camera.

Yes, Su sings live. There are subtle differences between the studio version and this live version, so she is singing. Nice. 4 me Babymetal always live, too 🤩. Their show is incredible. But NOW you need to open Pandora's Box. 1st -you need to react to some of the other unbelievable J-Metal bands next to BM - to Lovebites ("Holy War" live) and Band Maid ("Hate" live). And to loose your mind completely you have to meet the goddess valkyrie of Metal! Please react to Nightwish "Ghost Love Score" Wacken 2013 live. And you also need to know the siren of Metal! So next recommendation is EPICA "Code of Life" AFAS live. Your life will never be the same after you have listened to these 4 bands. Promised. 😂

@@ShadeReactsLive You'll find a lot of differences of opinion on what are the hits or misses. Their discography is extremely varied. They started as kids, so many early songs and performances were created with that in mind. There are distinct periods defined by age, lineup, lore, and the backing band. Some fans love all or most of what they've done. Favorites and least favorites vary wildly.
As others have said, Babymetal have some good music videos worth checking out, but generally speaking live is where they truly shine. The old stuff still holds up. They were extremely talented and professional even as young teens and held their own playing at the same festivals as everyone else and opening for the likes of RHCP and Metallica. Su-Metal (27) and Moametal (25) have been in Babymetal for over half their lives now. New member Momometal is 21.

    • @gaplauche
      @gaplauche 4 дня назад

@@ShadeReactsLiveOne thing to bear in mind regarding live vs. music video is that a number of Babymetal's official music videos consist of video footage from a concert overlayed with the studio audio. For live concert audio on Babymetal's RUclips channel, look for videos with the word "Live" in the title.
There are also a lot of live performances on RUclips ripped from Babymetal's many concert Blu-rays and uploaded by fans.
Try to avoid the fan-made compilations cobbled together from multiple concerts, however. They vary in quality and can be confusing to new fans.
