Yeah this should have been a single with a music video and radio play, but I think she didn’t do it on purpose because everything about it would have gotten dissected in the media lol just look at how much silly coverage and headlines Tom wearing the I love T.S. shirt got. Rumors were he was being considered the next James Bond until those photos made the news 🤦🏻♀️

It's about Tom Hiddleston, she met him at MET gala in 2016, she wanted to break up with Calvin Harris and used Tom as her "getaway car", but they weren't meant to be because it was a wrong start and in that same night at MET gala she also first met Joe Alwin, her current boyfriend, that's why she said "should know I would be the first to live, think about the place you first MET me" (MET GALA)
This is off Reputation! The getaway car is a metaphor for her rebound (leaving Calvin Harris for Tom Hiddleston) but the relationship being a rebound, it was never meant to last. She leaves Tom for Joe (who she also met at the Met gala 2016 - think about the place where you first Met me) listen to Dress off Reputation next!! Also Call It What You Want is one of my favorites off Reputation toooo!
Reputation wasn’t beloved commercially but to her fans, this album is God tier. It’s the beginning of Taylor really just creating for herself. New Year’s Day is beautiful. Listen and marvel at the way she can lyrically crush your heart.
This is one of my favorites song by her. The bridge is just perfect and the lyrics are on point with the production. ▶ This song deserved to be a single for sure.
This song was about Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston, she started dating Tom as a rebound after Calvin.
So in this case Tom was her getaway car (away from Calvin), but she knew it would never last. Thats why she says 'should've known I'd be the first to leave, think about the place where you first met me'. I loved this song and honestly the entirety of the Reputation album...so underrated. 🤌🏼🤧
This is reputation. It’s a fave! All of reputation tells a story, it’s a concept album, 100% autobiographical. Have yiu not listened to Reputation? THE reputation? Oh my goodness. Reputation chronicles meeting and falling in love with Joe at the worst time of her life. This album was the beginning of who she is today. Without Reputation, there would be no Lover, folklore or evermore.

Most songs performed live almost never live up to or surpass the studio produced versions, but the Reputation album songs are at least definitely the exception. The live version of all the songs off of this album are even better sounding.

"Getaway Car" was used as a promotional single only in Australia. Should've been released everywhere, with a video! this is the song dedicated to tom hiddleston, who was the “rebound” after the relationship with Calvin Harris. their relationship was short because Taylor then met her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.
Cruel Summer (from the Lover album) is the follow up to this, when Taylor and Joe started dating and they can’t show their relationship to the public (the media that time still knows that Tom is Taylor’s boyfriend)

The Best Song on Reputation Album
I wonder if it sounds like Lover cause you listened to Cruel Summer- both written with Jack Antonoff, and people have made playlists with Getaway Car seamlessly transitioning into Cruel Summer (very similar beats and the vocal distortions), people think it was intentional to show Taylor leaving Calvin Harris to be with Tom Hiddleston, then leaving Tom and starting a FWB relationship with Joe and trying to play it cool (which turned into their 5 year relationship 😅)
This song is allegedly about Tom Hiddleston. They met for the first time at the met gala 2014. Taylor and Tom danced together and Taylor was drunk, thus "think about the place where you first met me". Also, Taylor was already at the stage of falling out with her then-bf, Calvin Harris, when she started an affair with Tom, thus "I wanted to leave him, I needed a reason".
FYI the night at the met gala where Taylor danced with Tom, she also met her current bf Joe for the first time. From her many songs, she indirectly confessed that she was attracted to Joe at the first sight but wasn't planning to make a move until much later.

I wasn't a TS fan until last year. After folklore and evermore I checked out Lover (not my fav album), 1989 (I liked half of the album) and Reputation. This last one... soooo good! And Getaway Car is my 3er most fav song from that album, after I Did Something Bad and Don't Blame Me.

I don't suppose that is quite right; but have you reconsidered the meaning of her cutting the wing off the airplane (Big Machine) on delivery of her last contracted album, in LWYMMD? She even graffiti painted the album name on the plane. She was 80% of their income stream at that point. Also, she was wearing a Lover Era floral pastel outfit, so an Easter Egg two full years out.
