Tommy hearns walked into a chicken shack where i worked about 8 years ago. He was wearing a suit and had a hat with a feather and had two big body guards with him. No one at my work knew who he was. He asked my coworker several questions about the chicken and ended up getting it grilled because all of the msg in the breading. A middle aged black guy walked in and freaked out and then we all knew who he was. He was all smiles, very humble, and even spoke to me individually for a few minutes while he ate. I watched that fight live on CCTV, sorry I think it was a robbery.
Credit to Leonard's smarts and toughness, he flurried at the end of almost every round to leave a positive impression on the judges. His strategy paid off big time, no way he actually won that fight legitimately though.
Hagler retired out of disgust for the system. Don't forget Hagler wasn't given a title shot until he was something like 49-0 and then fought to a BS draw in his first title fight.

This fight was even more insane than Rogan seems to realize. By round 2, Hearns style HAD to change not because of some tactical strategy, but because he had already broken his hand in round 1. The time-out at the start of round 3 was because Hagler was bleeding pretty bad and the doctor was called to advise. Hagler was no stranger to unfair scoring from judges, and was immediately paranoid that the fight would be called. In lieu of this urgency, and sensing hearns handicap, Hagler went all in. There is no fighter who ever lived who had Haglers training ethic. he isolated himself in cape cod in the winter and would run at 3 am on frozen beaches w negative temp wind chill to condition his lungs and body to pain. He was more monk than showman. ppl didnt understand him, which is probably why he never got the respect he deserves.
