We got a free warrior too.
It has been sitting for about 6 or 7 years. We freed up the throttle and it ran better than our other machines. All we need to do now is bleed the brakes and free up the clutch and it will be one of the nicest machines we have.
These warriors are indestructible! Great find!
Play engines and transmissions they can take a beating
How are the other renter coming up to your parents house and if u
Love videos like this I'm saving up for my first quad to flip it for a better deal cant wait to start
Nice!!!! Thanks for watching
@@IntoTheDirtshop Thansm for replying appreciate it! Keep up the good videos .
I am saving up to do the same thing
@@connorkamm2065 badass!
m.pence14 I just got a 1989 Kawasaki bayou 300 for 400$ not running put about 100$ and sold it for 1800$ it had almost all brand new looking parts🤟🏽🤟🏽
Needs a top end rebuild forsure
What I’ve done in the past with engines that have sat for a long time is to pull the plug, pour some marvels mystery oil down plug hole, crank the engine over by hand just a few times. Then let it sit for 12-24 hours. I’ve had engines with no compression come back to life just by doing this.
Nice I guess it frees up those rings pretty quick
Into The Dirtshop yea, an older airplane mechanic swore by it and damn he knew exactly what he was talking about
@@ttali211 for sure man those guys know everything
I rebuilt my warrior because it was my first atv. I was blown away how expensive the replacement parts were.
I have a warrior project I'm about to start myself. It's in about the same shape as yours was. I'll be watching your vids plenty I'm sure.
Awesome! I’ve got another one in the works
It’s funny, seems like people are getting this awesome quads for cheap if not free and getting back on the road again. I just got one from a buddy of mine. It had been sitting in his backyard for the past 10 years. I’ve been able to get it to start on starting fluid but the carb definitely needs to be cleaned really good. I just got it this past Sunday (9/27/20) and hope to have it fully driving by next Sunday when the new parts come in
that is sick, they are great quads!
RACEING
My favorite part of the whole quad! Lol I left it on there too! Part two of this video is launching tonight!
lol!
Had a couple Warriors myself. I also forgot to check that the forward and reverse selector was fully engaged. Couldn't figure out why it wouldn't move. Got frustrated, walked away and came back a couple hours later after remembering to check it. I fully engaged it and everything was fine. Sometimes we forget to check the simplest things first.
Yes it does end up being the simple things sometimes. Same thing here, once I walked away thought about it, it was simple that it wasn’t in the correct position
@@IntoTheDirtshop You're correct my man. Just watched the other videos in the series. Great work. I also rebuilt an engine on a Warrior. It was relatively simple. One thing I've learned is to order a full matching top end kit with the piston, jug, rings, gaskets and seals. More money upfront but worth it for the peace of mind. Just avoid the cheap Chinese kits.
For sure man, thanks for watching!
Nice. i got a Warrior 350 from my dad yesterday so mine was also free. Mine runs just needs some tlc i think. Looking for a place for parts
I got most of my stuff on eBay
That cover on the engine ain’t wrong, all of them are like that. I have a 2005 Yamaha raptor 350 and it’s like that.
Ah word
That's one shiny cylinder!
Te koop ggo’s you
@@buldozertje what?
I have 2 warriors. The crack in the case is common. From the chain slop or snapping
ah dang man!
Clutch could be stuck , I had that problem after I let my Polaris sit for 5 year's , all I did to free it up was pull motor n clutch out, holmed out the piston walls , took motor n clutch apart and cleaned it really good , put new seals , rods and carb , put it back together and the rear end spun , only thing I bought doing this was a set of o rings for the piston
Nice! This was just the reverse switch stuck in between forward and reverse
Into The Dirtshop yeah actually posted this before I got to that part , kinda felt dumb for commenting 😂😂😂
Haha no worries man!!
I always use Chanel locks or an impact driver if possible for carburetor screws that are stripped
Great idea!
I also got a free 1990 Yamaha warrior 350 and I put 375$ into it and sold it for 1400$ so I guess it was good to take it
Awesome!!
I use little visecrips on all case and carb bolts to brake free then screwdriver
Good thinking!
Got an 88 I’m about to start working on 🤟🏼
Oh yea!!!!
When you work on it, you learn its a bitch to work on if you were in our situation but when its done you will be happy. You could sell it for 1200 or have a badass quad.
I also just got a 88 from my father in law. Its been sitting for over 15 years. Can't wait until it runs
@@jamescollins9108 clean carb, check exhaust, I know it's not a 2 stroke but mice are... well... creative, then check the brakes, connections, and you might need to drain the gas if it's just premium, and only use premium gas, unleaded or normal gas may work, but it will plug your carb up with nasty garbage. I'm 14 and I know this, I dont know if your experienced or not but if your not there you go, if you have any problems I might be able to give a solution. I like to help people.
@@traxxaskid9200 its the ethanol in the gas that plugs up carbs, eats gas lines and rubber needle valve seats. Even premium gas will do it unless you run 91 or 92(?) Octane ETHANOL FREE gas. I have picked up so many mowers, chainsaws, etc from curbs that people toss out and buy new because they wont run in spring, clean carbs, tanks and replace lines and filters use them all summer and resell for profit in early fall.
Vin # is down on the frame by the shifter and you have to look at the 10th digit and that will tell you what year it is. If you haven't already figured out
Thanks yes it’s an 04!
I like your four-wheeler I hope you get it running I would like to see how it runs
Great video I learned a lot thanks.
Awesome!
Great video man
Thanks dude!
Awsome as always
Thanks man!
I bought a ‘99 warrior new in ‘98. Still have it. 3rd complete engine, second rebuild in the third engine. I have no luck with Yamaha
Wow!
Mark Chatman then your doing something wrong, these bikes are made with tank armor
they are bulletproof!
We have about 10 of them sitting around an I’d say 4 out of them had a cracked case because of the chain coming off an busting it just got done building one yesterday about to start on another one😂 for fun I’m tired of seeing them sit
Nice!!
I’ll take them off your hands😂
This is an old video now but, those arent phillips screws, theyre JIS, they look similar but a phillips screw driver will strip them out.
Excellent 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
thanks man!
Should of done a leak down test.
I know I should have, keep watching and I did find the issue in the bent valve. I also should have replaced the valve seals while I was In there
I used to have a fourwheeler like this it was a 1987 Yamaha bear claw it had a stuck throttle and repaired tires as well as it was converted to a hand crank engine we called it the chain saw because the chain all was popped off and, well is started the same way as a chain saw lol we eventually restored it and sold it
That’s awesome! My buddy had an 88 and had the pull start. Great quad, I finally got this one running and am putting the video together
I'm thinking of picking one of these up for cheap when I'm done with a mojave. How's finding parts?
Nice! Super easy on parts, eBay and amazon have almost everything
Picking up an 87 needing a rebuild for either 400 or an janky mini bike I have no interest in
thats awesome!
160 dollar bumper 👍 sweet deal on the whole thing
Dang didn’t know those were that special
It's a common problem with them carburetor I hate them I have gone through 3 carburetor already because the same reason and the parking brake system is a problem also it won't start I learn that the hard way lol
I think my parking brake has been ripped off haha
@@IntoTheDirtshop parking break doesn't matter unless its in gear. the carbs on the warrior are very touchy but a good cleaning followed by a adjustment to close to spec will usually do the trick.
true, i think i got it running well
Year of manufacture should be on the frame below the neck
thanks!
I know I'm probably aggravating to use a compression tester on a four-wheeler you have to open your throttle all the way
i should have done that!
I know it’s a year later but you don’t have to hold the power button. Just hold the I. It’s what the I button is for.
Thanks!
Find the vin# research it. you'll find the year. I skip around sometimes too when I'm in deep thought about something..
I believe it’s an 04!
planning to sell it or do some "raceing"
Thank god I found this video I just came across one but no wire harness everything was cut off now I have to find out year or does it matter far as harness and stator etc guy just left it to rot
Nice! Well the question is.. what’s wrong with it? Does it run?
Into The Dirtshop the guy I had got it from said it did run but he let it sit up do to family situations so I bought it and the engine turns freely and has compression but have to get a wire harness and stator to hear it run any advise
yea just make sure its getting spark first!
I think you should build it up and make it race ready
my warrior is still getting no spark after replacing the ignition coil, spark plug, stator and pickup coil, and the cdi box and battery. the motor still turns over pushing the start button and everything with the killswitch looks great but I cant get any spark> recently went over all the wires and used a multimeter. the cdi box I got is a cheap one is there a chance that's my problem? it had spak with the cheap cdi for a day then lost spark again.
It could be a defect in any of those components. There are for forums that tell you the output of each of those parts. Check each and them with a multimeter and make sure they are up the spec
timing was off
@4:55 you might have it in reverse, check the reverse on it
Thanks, it ending up being in between gears
Had a guy offer to trade me his 350 1989 warrior he said all it needed was a clutch Bc it was locked up apparently. Trying to figure out if it’s worth the gamble I have no idea what else could possibly be wrong with it
Ya didn't even try oil in the cylinder.. put seafoam in her and run it hard as fuck with the electric drill on the crank, she will come around, you just gotta piss her off
Haha that’ll do it
Pulls timing chain cover.....yup must not be the valves... You know you need to pull the valve cover and check the valves at TDC, right?
Edit...never mind, looks like you finally figured it out.
Thanks for the edit
I have a warrior 350. It is a 2001 it has a pull rope
Sick! I wish this one had the pull start and the electric start. My buddy had a older one with the pull start and it was awesome!
I hope you eventually find that it’s IN REVERSE
Lol I did, next video
The cable comes off of the carburetor really simply too
If you're gonna put transmission oil in the cylinder, mix a little acetone or alchol in the fluid. 2 cycle oil has no benefits over regular motor oil except it costs more. Personally i wouldn't use either in the cylinder. Pb blaster, zep45, and liquid wrench will penetraite better between the piston/rings/cylinder walls without fouling the plug electrode.
Furthermore. I could instantly tell somone has messed with the cam shaft sprocket because their is a windage disc missing. It supposed to be infront of the cam sprocket. It channels oil that flows out of the camshaft rocker armassembly onto the sprocket then flow/rides down the chain to the bottom of the crankcase to the oil pump.
The white spot in the sprocket are actually from the manufacturers assembly line quality control. The white dot means the tension and timing has been verified and passed quality control. You will find the sometimes on the valve spring retainers as well.
The cylinder head gasket was fine. Its a multi layer gasket.
The piston ring are supposed to have a gap. how much depends on the gap while in the cylinder. To check if the valve is bent or leaking put some diesel fuel or other thin solvent that wont evaporate quickly and set the head on its side and fill the port up with the fluid and let it sit for a few mins. There shouldn't be any fluid leaking through.
You could of saved your self ALOT of time and money by using a compression tester BEFORE tearing it down. A testor will let you k ow if you need rings or valves within a minute and you only need to remove the sparkplug to test it.
How do you edit your videos
Final Cut Pro!
DRW CASE SAVER AND CASE BRACE
Thanks!!
It'll run straight pipe but you'll also burn your valve seals out real quick
I should have changed those when i had it apart...
Fuel filter is on backwards
Thanks we fixed that
Where do people find free quads?
A buddy was sick of working on it
Thanks!
Ps: Really fast reply)
they're called feeler gauge.
Yes correct!
Where did you get the bolts
For which part?
Where did bolt kit ? I broke the bolt that goes on the cable the connect the battery to the case
But it should be showing something either way but to get an accurate reading you have to open your throttle wide open
very true
10th diget of the vin is a letter or number.. that will tell you the year
Thanks I was wrong the whole time it’s a 1998!
Did you figure out the year yet.
1998
Into The Dirtshop I appreciate the upload. I’m in the process of rebuilding my 88 worrier.
Awesome!!
I think it’s rings but I don’t know
keep watching the series!
The cover is correct
Sweet
Look at the vin number to see what year it is
For sure, it was a 1998
How do u find out what year it is like I don’t know what to do with the vin number or a website or something to tell me idk?
@@logan_bozz317 the seventh number on the vin is the year of manufacture, but if you can’t access that , then go on a warrior fan club or a blog
@@c0munguyforcaz thank you man I’m trying to rebuild mine that I just bought for $200 and a bow top end needs rebuilt and it’s been forever since if rebuilt one so I forget so much about them I’m dealing with the dowel pins right now I need 2 more for the jug and case an then I need a collar or something idk what it is called Yamaha shop told me
Shit mine has jb weld on the case is that mean it’s fucked ?
It just means the case is cracked. Typically it actually holds up pretty well
Into The Dirtshop thanks for response man
I have an 1989 350 warrior and it doesnt start and im new to rebuilding automobiles and i drained out the engine it was filled with gunk should i have done that??
Nothing on it works besides the engine it turns over and the carburetor was rebuilt by my neighbor and cleaned
It could be a bunch of issues. I think your first step is to see if the crankshaft turns over
@@IntoTheDirtshop it turns over i just put the crankshaft back in but im thinking about selling it. For like 500 including original plastic and a white brothers exhaust and its extended axel in the back to buy a starting one or a car
@@skc34673 no
@@skc34673 dont sell it
That piston does like like it hit a valve aswell
Watch the next few episodes in the series!
I bought a 2004 350 warrior for $150 and had to do a complete homemade wiring harness from my dads warrior which I traded a amp and speaker set up out of my car and made a complete homemade wiring out of a blown up 2004 crf150f cdi and it took 3 attempts but I figured it out and I hate that card I had so many problems with it what's your Instagram so i can send pics from my homemade wiring harness on mine and how it works
That’s awesome, it’s Into_the_dirtshop
The warrior has stayed the same quad since they started except for the headlights not being minecraft on the newer ones, other than that, they have stayed the same machine and we got 2 warriors, one we bought custom for $450, (If you want really cool things, go on craigslist,) and the other one we got is OEM and has no mods, we got that one for free from a friend. Both of them run great and has been put under mud already, if you fix it right, it will be indestructible like what dirtshop told me on my comment.
How I know it's basically the same machine is because the modded one is an 88 and the new OEM one is 2008.
I need a free atv because I don't have money to buy any atv
The problem is then you need money to buy all the parts!! Haha
@@IntoTheDirtshop ahahahaha yup but I actually loves atvs very much
Same!
