When I was growing up my stepdad had 2 warriors along the path of life. To me they were the best of both worlds. They had good power and could get out of their own way. it was good for hunting or just having fun. In fact we always took the warrior hunting along with the Moto4 or my yellow tri moto 225 like you had on here a few weeks ago....Yamaha made some great machines and we always were buying used stuff and it seemed they never let us down. The hondas were good too but expensive when they did break

As the owner of a 2000 Warrior I understand the problems these machines have. I ended up buying mine in 2019 for $1,000. Unknowingly, the last owner ended up dropping the valve lock nut in the head, which he replaced with a new one, and it locked up the camshaft on us. Ended up with a crappy Niche head. Then I went into the bottom end and found the piston and rings were worn so a new standard Wiseco piston was installed. Ended up messing up the case treads so new cases were ordered also. Since then, awesome machine! I’m in it for too much unfortunately.

I picked up one with “needs radiator, carb cleaned, some electrical work, a choke cable, and a throttle cable.” Now I’m $1,000+ in repairs. Including tires, a whole new carb because there was a wasp nest inside it clogging the pathways and welding the throttle butterfly shut, a fuel petcock, starter, starter relay, battery, brakes, head gasket, etc. and now a new camshaft.

That thing looks exactly like MY 02 Warrior! Except yours is WAY louder. One thing, the throttle response sounds a little less "crisp" than mine. Might be the spring in the accelerator pump bore may be weak, and not pushing it back up enough to get full stroke out of it. Your Accel Pump still has the rubber bellows on it.... hold onto that, they are unobtanium any more, but there is an alternative I found. Since it looked like I was watching you work on mine, I was way into this video. I'd love to see an addendum on your carb cleaning experience. That float will come out, but it takes a bit of uncomfortable force. I did a whole series of vids on my Warrior, to figure out where and how it was bent, fixing it, and rear brake repairs. It's LONG, but I had no editing skills back when I did it.

Starters will run backwards if the polarity is reversed too, i.e. hooked up backwards. since it appeared to be hooked up correctly, the prior owner probably replaced the starter with one that turned the wrong way.

idk if anyone has said this but if you use tape of some kind preferably duct tape around the shaft of the starter you can tell easier if it rotates counter or clockwise

I had a 350 wolverine 2000 model that ran great and then it didn’t and I took it to three different shops, and none of them could ever fix it. It ran, but would never wind out.

I love watching teardown videos like these because they're great for learning mechanics. I'd have never of thought to check the starter magnets. How do you go about retorquing bolts though? Do you do it by feel, use a torque wrench or just give it a few ugga duggas? If you do use a torque wrench where do you find the specs?

Some user's manuals and/or service manuals have broad guidelines for almost every single bolt sizes torque specs, also if you've torqued many different sized bolts you'll find that similar sizes usually take similar torque values. It's usually only when it's torqueing different material/grade bolts into different thread/housing materials ie steel bolts in aluminum vs magnesium etc that the torque values will change.

Great snag! I have a '99 I got in similar shape. Why do people start chopping at the wiring harnesses? I see it all the time. Grab extra solenoids and intake boots. They seem to go quickly. Great video!

We have a procedure for bikes that have been sitting for a while and customers want us to get running. First thing is check air box to make sure there is no rat or mice nest that can be sucked through a valve and possibly bend it

You could take the engine off the Yamaha dirt bike and put it on the warrior that would give it twice the power,i bet it could bolt up to it
