Since this video was published on Jan 11, 2017, I am thinking it must have been a wee bit cold. I noticed the second part of this video back at the house seemed to look like maybe a cool morning, or by that I mean the light. I don't see any breath though coming from the guy making the video. This is a very cool series of videos. It is part salvage, part history, part saving an antique. The series is certainly not about body work or about making a truck look pretty or tough. The tires and rims though did a lot for the truck. Nothing like some new sneakers to run around in.
Preach it brother! I'm like you, Fords are my favorite, but I like anything with wheels on it and would like to see all of 'em spared the fate of the crusher. Guess it's because of the way I was raised, my dad was a Ford man, so I grew up listening to him and his stories about his old cars, but once I discovered Hot Rod magazine, and PHR, and all that... well, if its a car or truck you can always do something cool with it!
I never had that body style of a ford truck! so it would be VERY DESIREABLE to me for a summer time crusier!! long box 292 3 speed column shift!! they sell for great money on ebay!!
I am a Ford guy and have had a few Y-Blocks in my time , That is the first thing used to take care of was replacing the 272 or 292 crossover manifolds with 312 manifolds that were duels . Jonathan that is another indication that your 59 Ford pick - up is a 292 , I never saw a 312 have single exhaust. Not saying it never happen, most 312 were duel exhaust.
HI Jonathan. Man, that '56 Ford had some Great look'n Stainless on it with some Optional stainless around the windows too. That stuff is getting hard to find. I used to run those 0l' 292's, 312's, 352's alot in my 0l' car's. I hope it run good for ya.
As soon as you opened the hood I said 292! I worked at A service station in the 60's and 70's and the foreman had A '58 Rancho with A 292 and A 3 on the tree. I had A 60' T-Bird with A 352 Slush-O-Matic. Piled that one into the front porch of A bar in Rush City MN.!! Speed Kills!!
A lot of nice chrome pieces on the 56 to bad it's a rust case . Like the pickup and even with the rust it still has a lot of potential. Don't think it's a 352 wrong value covers , I'm going with 292 . Hope you get to run , your right a ford would be a nice change . How's the Falcon doing .
id love to own this model truck as a first car as im 17. been watching and learning how to fix engines and older vehicles because though they are safer, newer cars just don't appeal to me as much as old ones do. I'd rather be driving in something that makes me feel like im driving something rather than driving something that makes me feel underwhelmed.
All the 312 engines I have seen were black, had 4 barrel carbs and true dual exhausts. None were factory red or had the single exhaust with the front crossover pipe. The first Ford blue engine I saw was the 300 horsepower 352 FE in a 59 Galaxie. Engine color meant something back in the 50s. I have a 59 Fairlane that came with the red 2 barrel 292 with rear exit exhaust manifolds but the pipe crossed under the car to have only one muffler. It sounds much better now with dual 36 inch glasspacks on it. Old Fords need to rumble a little.
Ford only used the 312 for two years, 56&57, they were red with black valve covers, 4barrel only. Only trucks had crossover pipes. Mercury used the 312 through 1960 as a base engine, 2barrel only.
Too bad about that 56 Ford car was so bad a shape but that1959 F100 looks like a good project. That 292 looks like it is in pretty good shape. Its good that he plugged the intake with that rag and the oil and trans fluid looks good so you should have a pretty good rat rod engine hopefully. Thanks for sharing
That's my favorite Ford truck body style. The reason is kind of silly, but it's because I had a Buddy L Coke truck as a kid and it was that style truck.
59 F100 my favorite year. Tailgates are hard to find! Glove box tag will tell you info. I converted my exhaust to ram horns off an early F750. Orange red was the original engine color with black valve covers.
Looking forward to hearing this one start up and run. Those Y block Fords are getting hard to find. I added you on Facebook. I'm from Rockingham and would like to stop by sometime and check out your cars.
There is two levers for the three speed, they just used one. Kind of sketchy because there is no lock out and you can shift into reverse very easy while going down the road. Thanks for watching!!
Ford made more 292's than any other "Y" block. The displacement isn't stamped anywhere on the engine. The best you can do is look at the casting number on the side of the block to see when the engine was made. Does the trans have a vacuum modulator? If it does, it's a newer trans and probably a full 3 speed. If it only has throttle linkage, it is probably a Ford-O-Matic, although it could be a Cruise-O-Matic. The Ford-O-Matic was a 3 speed, but you only got low gear if you pulled in low. The Cruise-O-Matic was a full 3 speed. It would start in low gear in D1 or second gear in D2.
did you find out what transmission that is? I don't know when ford stopped using the old Fordomatic air cooled transmissions, I don't know what other transmissions would fit the 292.
I am struggling to recall stuff from a few decades back when manufacturers used a block for years and years that you could get a rebuilt one from a refurbishment company that would paint the rebuilds either blue or gold. back in the late 1980's or '90's in Britain that was.
I sold a 59 Ford custom cab for $250 years ago. Im into pre 48 rides and have been for thirty years or more. Building a 1941 ChevyPickup now. $800 invested so far all used parts. Body $100 engine $50 trany $75. Most expensive part was front and rear suspension from a 1995 Caprice classic. That came from the Sheriff's car in Madison County Idaho. Four wheel disc breaks and a 12 bolt posi with the 2.70 gears. The engine is 72 Dodge V8. Im keeping the Lavender brush paint job. Also utilizing the Police exhaust system for the quiet sleeper sound. Im making the flatbed out of used badly weatherd wood to give the junker look , it will accentuate the Lavender brush paint job well.
Interesting how sometimes vehicles come with titles but no keys & here's one with keys & no title...don't know much about Y blocks except that l heard they would spin cam bearings if one were to lean into it in an aggressive fashion...help a buddy of mine open 1 up before & it had solid lifters so you shouldn't have to worry about a sunk lifter when trying to get it going...every 292 l can remember was painted red with a 2 barrel & that cross pipe going around the front...& the automatics were 2spd fordamatics...l had 1 in a 61 falcon wagon with a 170 motor & it would push start with a vehicle that would match up the back bumper...l think l like the old dodge with the gourds in the cab better...did a rear end for that thing ever find it's way to you?
The Ford-O-Matics were actually 3 speed, but they stated in 2nd gear when you put them in D. You got low gear when put in L. Old hot rodders would start in L, wind it up and shift to D. When the trans went to second gear you would pull it back in L to hold second gear. When that wound out, back to D to get high gear. The procedure is actually explained in my T-Bird driver's manual. I think the air cooled torque convertors went away in 1955 or 1956.
Joe Albert l think l remember something about that...it was a long time ago (1972)...not much hot rodding going on with a 1 barrel 170 in a falcon 4dr wagon, but l remember something going on in there...what got me was you could push start it & it would start once it was going fast enough
Most automatics used a rear pump up to run the governor to about 1965. This pump was run on the output shaft of the trans so pushing the car would pressurize the trans and allow it to go into gear.
Thanks for the Ford Fix! Would be a good idea to put it back in another Ford...that's something that gripe everyone..."cross-badging ". I understand you use what you've got. Thanks again for your sweat and blood! Rock on Jonathan!/
It is the crossover pipe. Instead of running under the engine like most, the ran it on top. I think all Y block Fords were that way. Makes it hard to put duals on them..
Gary Clemons I have a fifty eight and from 57 to 60 they where the same truck only with different hoods and grills and was the first four wheel drive Ford truck ever
I know everyone has their own taste. But to me the 59's had the ugliest of all the fords front end. That being said I am glad to see it saved. I am sure there are plenty of people who like them.

Does my heart good to see these old vehicles get rescued.I am a Ford guy but I like to see all brands saved from the crusher.

I'm like you, love Fords but like a lot of the others and difinetly do not want to see any of them destroyed.
I never had that body style of a ford truck! so it would be VERY DESIREABLE to me for a summer time crusier!! long box 292 3 speed column shift!! they sell for great money on ebay!!
That is a 292 y block 8. I had some early 1960s fords with that motor in them!
love them old y block ford engines!
Nice find! Can't wait to see you bring that thing back to life.
I'm doing a 1960 F350. The front cab mount area is the worst area rusting out. Most likely the original 292 Y block.
HI Jonathan. Man, that '56 Ford had some Great look'n Stainless on it with some Optional stainless around the windows too. That stuff is getting hard to find. I used to run those 0l' 292's, 312's, 352's alot in my 0l' car's. I hope it run good for ya.
I've never seen a y block or any ford v8 with that exhaust configuration. I love the style of the 59 front end .
All Y-Block trucks had a crossover pipe
I used to have a '53 Ford pickup
As soon as you opened the hood I said 292! I worked at A service station in the 60's and 70's and the foreman had A '58 Rancho with A 292 and A 3 on the tree. I had A 60' T-Bird with A 352 Slush-O-Matic. Piled that one into the front porch of A bar in Rush City MN.!! Speed Kills!!

All right man , Very good!
Everyone get on the bus. Haha. Hope for some nice weather.
shortbed 59's are going for 15-20k fixed up now -i have a 44k 460 from a 78 lincoln that would work perfectly
id love to own this model truck as a first car as im 17. been watching and learning how to fix engines and older vehicles because though they are safer, newer cars just don't appeal to me as much as old ones do. That thing would be sweet if it was all fixed and running/driving reliably with the body left as it is and just drive the heck out of it!
Too bad about that 56 Ford car was so bad a shape but that1959 F100 looks like a good project. That 292 looks like it is in pretty good shape. Not silly to me, sounds like a damn good reason to like them!!
love this pickup, my dream pickup, love it ,love to have it.
Seen a lot of these growing up
For not being a Ford man, you sure use a lot of them. Wise choice.
Get you some Ford's. I never had one leave me on the side of the road. 🤘😁
that is a sweet old truck
cool stuff
If your interested I have a 1959 Ford also it runs It has a 357 Cleveland I'm selling the truck for 5,000
If you have Any pics I might be
59 F100 my favorite year. Tailgates are hard to find! Glove box tag will tell you info. I converted my exhaust to ram horns off an early F750. Orange red was the original engine color with black valve covers.
nice find love those old trucks
This rescue and eventually the "First start" video is what got me on your channel!
How much did you pay for this beauty?
Looking forward to hearing this one start up and run. Those Y block Fords are getting hard to find. I added you on Facebook. I'm from Rockingham and would like to stop by sometime and check out your cars.
My stepdad has a winch bed on a truck just like that 700 Ford.
how is it connected to the three on the tree column
There is two levers for the three speed, they just used one. Kind of sketchy because there is no lock out and you can shift into reverse very easy while going down the road. Thanks for watching!!
your welcome , your truck is cool , I have a 1964 ford f100 that I'm fixing right now

Hey, this place looks familiar. Does this happen to be Sanford, NC?
Save that ford!👍
Man that sucks it doesn't have a title it would look sweet dropped on air bags just as it is
an exploding non functional touch screen phone, go back to wired rotary like I did!
nice pickup truck i have question how to you get the tittle of something like this
A lot of good mouldings and bumpers on the crown Vic
did you find out what transmission that is? I don't know when ford stopped using the old Fordomatic air cooled transmissions, I don't know what other transmissions would fit the 292.
Hi Jonathan, do you know the year and model of the white Ford?
I am struggling to recall stuff from a few decades back when manufacturers used a block for years and years that you could get a rebuilt one from a refurbishment company that would paint the rebuilds either blue or gold.
back in the late 1980's or '90's in Britain that was.
My best guess is that it's a 292 V/8 since it doesn't have the T-bird exhaust manifolds.
whats the car that was in front of it
great find Jon! hotter to hear her run soon! take care!
definitely a saver. Glad you're able to be out there saving the old ones 👍
The old stuff seems to never really rust away.
You are a brave soul....lol .... always good looking in .Cheers Alberta Dave
Make it into Tow-mater!
North or South Carolina?

All headlights are still there and they look pretty decent :)

It's just begging to be twin turbo, whats with that exhaust?
how did the galaxy look ?
Body good, hood shot and no engine or trans.
Love these style vids thanks for sharing
Nice old truck
So, this engine will perhaps go into the Mainline ?
It may, I checked the info on the registration and may be able to get a title, if so may sell it for someone to make a rat rod or old driver.
Xln't idea, that'll make for an easier job. I wish you luck on getting the title. Some Ford guy will latch onto that even tho' it's a long bed. :-)
Nothing wrong with long beds, four doors or wagons, gotta save 'em all like they were Pokemon rofl!
why do they put that pipe from manifold to manifold in the front like that just curious
Gary Clemons ive never seen that. balance pipe i guess
It is the crossover pipe. Instead of running under the engine like most, the ran it on top. I think all Y block Fords were that way. Makes it hard to put duals on them..
Gary Clemons it's a Ford y block all of the Ford y blocks stock have them
Gary Clemons I have a fifty eight and from 57 to 60 they where the same truck only with different hoods and grills and was the first four wheel drive Ford truck ever
Patrick Vandenberg
Look like a 292
Not to original
You do good work
Choices were 292, 332, 352 and Mercury 430.
Rick S probably the 460.
Rick S neat thanks for the history lesson.
was that a ford Granada coupe in front of that truck?
yeah didn't see many Mercury Monarch's coupe's that would make a awesome oddball rat rod.
I know everyone has their own taste. But to me the 59's had the ugliest of all the fords front end. That being said I am glad to see it saved. I am sure there are plenty of people who like them.
I believe that is a 312 out of a59 thunderbird.
Can you say hopeless junk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure can, it's called chiverlet
