Notice the third time the chorus comes around there's no "he said". He's saying it himself, that he's keeping his father with him. It's just beautiful.

I lost my father in 2009 at the age of 89. I miss him so much. I don't think you ever stop missing them. I've been crying for days. Every few years my Birthday fell on Fathers Day. I miss not sharing it with him anymore.

This describes me and my father to a tee. My dad is 91 years old and it's just me and him together now. I take care of my dad and I tell my dad I'm sorry for the way I acted growing up and I tell him I love him everyday. We ended up being best friends and we make each other laugh. I cherish everyday I have with him. Thank you for this video !!!!!!

My Father was the one I looked up to, and he was instrumental in my becoming who I am and the profession I chose. The emotion in Conway Twitty’s voice has me in tears.

i listen to songs like this and *dream* what life would have been for me, if my father had been allowed to raise me. It would have been so different. He loved me, I was his little girl, but they stole me, and I didn't get to experience my Father's love growing up. So.. I dream about it.. songs like this take me there. xo

I went back to last year 1st and listened to Daddy's hands which was a great song for Father's Day and here again a great song. I feel for you Amber I truly do. I was the only lucky one of my father's 8 children that he had the chance to see get married. I was young 16 but my Father signed for my marriage. Then 2 months later he died. Now 50 plus years later he missed everything he and my mom created thru their loins. We're talking a huge family thru his 8 children and thankfully my mom is still alive today at 91. So many years that have passed but I still remember the day he gave me away. Happy Father's Day, Jay

My uncle toured with Conway in the 70s and 80s. Got to hear this song in person many times. I was just a kid but it didn't hit me much back then. But now I know I don't have many years left with my dad. Lost my mom about 5 years ago. It's hard to imagine, but we really take for granted how much our parents do for us in our lives.

That breathe was probly him being relieved that he made it thru it without breaking up while at the same time thinking of his own father. This song always brings a tear to my eyes. My birth father was an alcoholic an I lived in a children's home. An I didn't have him in my life much then. But I was blessed to have had the last 5 or so years to bond with him an understand more his pain that he carried with him since he was 16. An those last few years he didn't drink. U guys r awesome always. Oh an it was fun watching Amber fighting back tears

I just lost my pup of 16 yrs on New Year’s Day. He does before I could get home. I feel so guilty. When he said “How will I go on with you gone this way…” hits me so hard. Bc I tried so hard to take care of him. And he died. My best friend died. And I know it’s a dog but he was mine to care for. He gave me loyalty and unwavering love. No matter what. One of the best things God gave us was animal companionship and the cruelest thing is taking them away.
virtually any song by Conway is a beautiful well done song. very few singers could even come close to matching let alone exceeding the way Conway sang. he was my dad's favorite singer and we played this song at my dad's funeral on Memorial day weekend just a little over a month ago.

My Father took his life 6 years ago and every time I hear this song, I cry. He wasn’t the “best” Father but he was mine, and it makes me sad that he didn’t think he was worth staying. I forgave him a long time before he did what he did, I assumed it was an unspoken thing we both knew, I guess not. Have those conversations with the ones you love before it’s too late. Also, even if you’re not the “best” Father, you are still needed and loved. Fathers are just as important as Mothers. God bless❤

My dad died Dec 9, 2021. This song means so much to me now than it did when I first heard it in the mid-80s. I always feared losing him, because I idolized him so much, and he did everything for the family without complaint, without the need for praise, and without the urge to brag or boast. My dad didn't speak much, he was a reserved man, so he didn't say "I love you" or "I'm proud of you" often, because if he said those words frequently to the point they lose meaning, it wouldn't be genuine, sincere, and from the heart. They would lose the gravity of them, so he was sparing in throwing that weight around. He said those two phrases in actions, by getting or doing things to show his love for us, and show he was proud of us.
My dad and I were close, even though we didn't talk much. We didn't have to talk. We had a sort of mind reading ability, were we could do some project and know what the other is thinking. I can't really describe it, but it was just extremely cool to give him a look and you'd know he understood. It's like me and my sister, saying the same thing at the same time, or finishing each other's sentences. The only time my mom saw my dad excited was when I was born, because I had his copper red hair and his nose!
My mom and dad dated for 8 years, meeting for the first time at my grandfather's funeral. When I was a few months along inside mom, they got married, and they were married for 46 years. They didn't argue, didn't yell, never fought. They loved each other deeply, and had many happy years together. I wish every couple had their kind of love and peace!
Every day since he passed, I tell the wind or the quiet darkness of the night how much I love him and miss him. I tell about things I did to look after my elderly mother, who has Alzheimer's. I talk about all the struggles I go through having all the extra responsibility of taking care of our finances and bills, repairing what breaks, making sure we got food to eat, the tough choices I have had to make, my hopes that I get it right, and my fears of getting it all wrong. I tell about the things I did "For The Family", because I promised him before he went into the hospital, while in the hospital, and on his grave that I would look after our family, and I've done my best to keep that promise. It's the only way I can truly be like him and show how much I love him, because that's my job, that's what I do, everything I do is because of him, to keep his memory alive, and keep my solemn promise to him.
June 14th would have been my folks' 48th wedding anniversary. Mom, my sister and two nephews, and I went to dad's grave. Afterward, I drove mom around cruising since the day is absolutely glorious. As we pulled in the backyard, so my mom could get out without having to deal with stairs, "That's My Job" started on my radio. I grabbed her arm, told her to get in, and cranked up the volume so she could hear it. It took all I had not to break down while hearing it. It seemed like dad was talking through the song with each line and lyric. I mean, what are the odds that of the 1,000s of songs to play, on this particular day, and considering where we came home from, that THIS would play just as we got home?

I lost my daddy on May 4,2023 an we played this song while everyone saying their goodbyes an closing of casket. This song fits my dad to a tee. I moved to Michigan from NY an when it didn't work out 6mnth later I called my dad told him I wanted to come home. He stopped everything he was doing an made 18hr trip to come get me with no questions asked.

This has always been one of my favorite Conway Twitty songs, it came out when I was 11, and I was a daddy's boy. I lived with my dad and he was indeed my world, and thanks to him, I grew up to be the man I have and raised two young men that are amazing.

I lost my dad many years ago now after he suffered through a long illness. I wont go into too much but after a stroke he spent 15yrs eating out of a feeding tube in his stomach and spitting into tissues because he couldnt swallow right without getting pneumonia. He never complained. Never. He was the strongest man I ever knew. A man of few words and all action. This song (and watching Amber) made me cry like I havent in a long time. I miss you Pops. Happy Fathers Day. You were my rock in a somewhat chaotic life.
