Josh Schulz lmao you and I clearly haven’t heard the same albums. Great Is Our Sin and the Outer Ones have some of their most batshit insane drum parts. Witch Trials is probably favorite Revo song, though. Like I said, they’re both awesome.

Phil is an exceptional drummer. Love the flow and subtle complexity while still playing hard and fast. Super tight as well.
This guy and their other drummer Ash are ridiculously underrated.
I think that the most people who know about him holds him in high regards and I dont think he is underrated maybe just not that well known.

you're joking, but Phil had to quit revocation because of a broken shoulder and hasn't been a full time drummer since. I hope he is indeed fully healed up and a band snaps him up to tour as travel restrictions ease.
Man he was great when he was in Revocation. Ash is a great drummer, too, don't get me wrong. Phil is definitely the shit though.

I really like this. set up. Years ago I was doing death metal and had the extra hihat with full toms. very cluttered. Then I did a black metal project with the ride replacing the right tom. Loved that set up. this is like mixing both together.

Man... I keep playing... I feel lost...trying to learn way too many things at once and making little progress on anything. I really wish I could figure out how not to suck. This was incredible.
Basics, basics, and more basics. You are likely attempting things far above your skill level currently, I was the same way starting out with metal guitar. Practice your triplets and paradiddles for a week straight, take a day or two off to let the muscle memory set in, then see where you've improved. Repeat as you begin to find the flaws in your playing. Spend a week straight doing kick exercises. Practice difficult blast/cymbal work at 50% speed. You need to solidify your foundation before stepping up to this level.
