This tech really shines with a Steam Deck type device and a phone with external display optimisations (Samsung DEX). These are better for playing 2D games and movies than any VR headset and that's no small thing. Pixel density is much higher and the oled panel is superior. 3D movies look great. If you use them on the road a lot then these are easily worth it for mine. Not so much if you're tethered to the couch.
So I've got these glasses as well, and while yes usually the glasses is like having a big screen in front of your eyes keeping track of you. I've got to say it's not always like that, there is, for a limited amount of phones, the option to use the Rokid AR app, in there you have the option to pin the screen to a specific spot and then the screen will stay in that spot, minus the eventual drifting due to accuracy failure on the 6dof sensor. so it is official an option, but to be honest, I've used that feature once, the glasses are cool and neat, and there's potential for the future, but for right now I much prefer VR headsets like the Pico 4 which I bought after and use a bunch more.
Sony HMZ-T2 is now 12 years old and does the same thing as Rokid. You might also remember Avegante Glyph headset (7 years old). We're going back to the pre-VR era 😅
I agree, that is not AR. It is a face worn screen. After using VR for years, the screen following my glance around would make me insane. Do you think it would work on a plane? As far as covering AR, go for it. If the Quest 3 lives up to the early hype we may start to see AR experiences really start to explode. Personally, I can't wait.
I think it would technically work on a plane, but the biggest issue there I think would be the audio. Because the speakers on the glasses would be loud for everyone sitting around you. So adding headphones would be dealing with more cords and such!
I went through these and the Xreal on the AR premise and returned them. Its a cool face screen. The stars need to align just right to be able to get anything remotely resembling AR. The diopter adjustment made the screen look like, well, shit. I cant wait for a real AR contender to come into this space it aint there yet with any of these

These are pretty similar to the Nreal/xreal air which I have. I got it to use with the steam deck, or as you seemed to have found yourself, lying in bed. They do work well for this, and instead of having an ipad on an arm to stream games to while in bed, I can now just plug these into a laptop and stream games to it while lying flat on my back. As for the “AR”, I think there is an app for android which does give some AR functionality. Im an iPhone user tho, so I dont know exactly, but it could be the same deal with the rokid:s
I agree that AR needs to be 6doF or have some occlusion. But not having even 3doF means this is just nothing, one of those old media viewers from the 90s. It’s a shame.
Very informative for anyone thinking this could replace their stationary monitars.. Couldnt the company develop a software update that gives option to Lock In Postion? Fixed😅 Also linking to a Cellular device on hand, would be optimal.

Could I connect my 3d bluray player and watch my 3d movies on it? My 3d tv is broken and they don't make them anymore. Another question: no netflix app on rokid tv, but can you watch netflix through your android phone?
