Same. I feel so bad for Scarlett Johansson. She's with Marvel since Iron Man 2, it's been 9 years but still she hasn't gotten her own movie. Many people still want to know what happened in Budapest so just make one with Black Widow and Hawkeye in a movie together.
Yes, there's Black Widow, Scarlett Witch, Okoye, all these female characters that audiences like, but they just whipped up this nothing character who's sole reason to exist is 'yay women'
What made Wonder Woman work was that they treated her like any other superhero. She wasn't out to prove that women can be strong. She went out to prove to herself that she was strong. She just happened to be a woman. She also didn't have to tear down men to look strong. Edit: I should clarify that my comment was not meant to compare Wonder woman to Captain Marvel. I have not seen Captain Marvel so it would be unfair of me to compare the two. I can only say what I liked about Wonder Woman and how it handled having a female lead in a superhero movie.
Exactly! I mean look at the band of misfits shes hanging with during it. That campfire scene in the film shows this perfectly. She genuinely cares about them. And gets to know them even more. But she dont try and tell them "now watch how i do it" in the Capt Marvel trailer she literally says "lets show the boys how its done". Or something like that.
What makes you think Captain Marvel is out to prove women can be strong or that she wants to tear down men? I mean I won’t lie, the trailers look boring, but I don’t think I saw any of that happening...
That and Wonder Woman is actually an interesting character unlike Captain Marvel that is just filling in for the first Captain Mar-Vel and isn’t even original. Marvel just doesn’t have many interesting female characters and the ones they do have are on the X-Men. Storm is a better character and hopefully she gets a stand-alone in the future
Yup. Wonder Woman surprised the hell out of me, I went to watch it thinking that it's going to be very preachy, but that was not the case. It was genuinely a good movie with no identity politics. Through dialogues and scenes, not even a single time they were shoving in my face that she is a female superhero, she was just a superhero which happened to be a female and that's how a strong female character is written. Also, the way Gal Gadot marketed the movie in media, TV...just everywhere, she doesn't said anything racist or sexist to the target audience. Infact, throughout the whole promotion of her movie, she was very endearing to the fans.👍
Depends on the writer. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are far greater and more experienced as writers than those who wrote Captain Marvel, and those 2 didn't emphasize a lot on her in Endgame either.

Movie was okay. Definitely a weak contender in the MCU. Along side with Iron Man 3 and Age of Ultron. Movie could have been better and yea DC did it better.
I couldn’t agree more. While I hate this culture war that’s been floating around this movie it’s always nice to hear Jeremy’s unbiased opinion on a movie.
Don't be. Be REALLY worried about how Nick Fury came up with the title "Avenger" It's an honorary one It's in honor of a character who is currently on her 8th relaunch in 5 years that is being portrayed by an actress who once had a music career and sold only 4,000 albums.
Feminism doesnt believe in a character arc, because that would suggest that females arent born perfect and must strive for something. This movie is a script for feminism, and so they ran into the obvious pitfalls with that. Namely, that the viewing audience doesnt find that theory believable.
A F Nah, you just missed the purpose of the feminism in this movie. She’s supposed to be a Captain America type of character. In other words, she’s not supposed to have personality flaws. Her struggles derive from things she cannot control. Accordingly, her first solo film isn’t supposed to contain the familiar “hero’s journey” character arc that we’re accustomed to. Captain America was the same exact way. He didn’t have a character arc in his first solo movie either, which was the entire point. The people around him are the ones that were supposed to change, since they were the sources of his struggles. His real arc didn’t come into play until he woke up in the modern day for the Avengers and the Winter Soldier films. I assume they’re doing something similar with Captain Marvel. The purpose of the feminism in this movie is to provide the vehicle for the external struggle that Carol cannot control. She cannot control the fact that she was routinely held back on her journey to become a fighter pilot in the late 1980s due to sexist attitudes of the day (and don’t try to argue that didn’t exist, it was virtually impossible for a woman to become an Air Force pilot back then). Once again, this is exactly what they did with Steve Rogers. For him, he couldn’t control the fact that he was literally too small to be a soldier. That’s something he couldn’t control either. With that being said, Captain Marvel was still a pretty “meh” film and Brie Larson turned in a pretty bland performance. But the flaws of the film have nothing to do with its feminism. The feminism served the plot of this particular film well.
@Studio Autio That DC did Aquaman better. Though I'll admit that's just because I've never seen any good Namor stories, and I never hear anybody talking about him. @@silverwind3766 I really really doubt that. Aquaman looked cool and amazing. That's really true. I loved it but the plot makes no sense. "The filmmakers think that in order to make someone look strong, you need to make them emotionless, and I just don't agree." Could not agree more and this pretty much sums up all my issues with the movie. Look at all the strongest Marvel characters and they all have character flaws which get explored and looked at in depth, which makes us relate to them. Captain Marvel, however, was quite literally the perfect character, she was powerful, strong, smart, fast and just the best at everything she did. that they don't acknowledge their primary adversity doesn't preclude them from being good movie characters, but it does seem a bit strange to make a point about it.
That moment when you realize Thanos is more relatable than Captain Marvel.
Depends on the writer. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are far greater and more experienced as writers than those who wrote Captain Marvel, and those 2 didn't emphasize a lot on her in Endgame either.
You know marvel f*cked up when a genocidal maniac is more relatable than the MAIN CHARACTER of one of their most anticipated movies...

Wonder Woman was a lot better! She had a character arc and I cared about her. Captain Marvel is as interesting as a wood plank.
Mahogany Black woah, woah, woah. A wooden plank? That’s insulting to Groot. She’s actually as interesting as a piece of dirt.😂

Well that’s insulting
To planks of wood

I agree - It's like that one saying, "Courage isn't having no fears, it's facing those fears."
Never thought I would see the day where a popular film reviewer would "thumbs down" a Marvel movie...... no matter if its good or not. Good for you for breaking the mold, Jeremy. Hopefully this allows the flood gates to open.
Everybody “thumbs downed” Iron Man 2. And Thor Dark World, and people weren’t too crazy about either Ant Man. This imaginary Marvel bias people always talk about holds no real water... perhaps most of their movies are just good and people who say that are just speaking their mind??
@@Ryda124 Sure it does. Despite what Jeremy thought of those movies in particular, they all enjoyed positive reviews across the board with film reviewers. (IM2 - 73% FRESH, TDW - 66% FRESH, AntMan - 82% FRESH). That doesnt even count, IMO, the 2 worst MCU movies in Age of Ultron (75% FRESH) and GotG2 (84% FRESH).
Opaqueness Just because they have a “fresh” rating that means nothing, it’s just a calculator that tries to interpret a consensus. Go in and actually read the reviews. I just scrolled through the Iron Man 2 reviews and all of them were basically like “Nothing special but it was alright I guess” and it defaults to being a positive score. The only movies that have rotten ratings have to be utterly terrible. Again, all the critics are being honest
Well, it’s official. I’m skipping the film. Thank you J. You never disappoint.

This is why i have huge respect for Jeremy. He's honest in his reviews and he's not one of the legions of the simple-minded fanboys who will automatically gush over a movie because it's a Marvel film.
Just because it's a superhero movie starring a female lead doesn't automatically make it amazing. Marvel always follows the same type of formula for all their films, so i'm sick of people orgasming over it just because it's politically correct and has nice special effects.
