    This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updated 2022 Acura RDX compact premium SUV. What’s new for 2022? The RDX has a more sculpted exterior design drawing inspiration from the new MDX. The diamond pentagon front grille features a thinner chrome surround with a new front fascia making it appear wider. The back end receives a reshaped rear fascia with rectangular dual exhaust finishers on the two lower trims and rounded on A-Spec models. The integrated dynamics system has been updated and the available adaptive damper system delivers more response in sport mode and a more comfortable ride in comfort mode. The RDX has received extensive refinement updates with an enhanced active sound control system to reduce road noise and increase cabin quietness. All models come with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and there is now an available wireless charger, interior accent lighting and A-Spec models gain power-folding side mirrors, Advance trim in the US. The RDX has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission, 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque with standard AWD in Canada. In the US, FWD and AWD options are offered on three trims, the top two trims AWD only. Our Platinum Elite A-Spec test model in Liquid Carbon Metallic, a new colour for 2022 ups its game with a gloss black grille surround, 20” shark grey wheels and a red leather and ultra suede interior. The RDX comes with an impressive amount of standard features including a 10.2” display, leatherette upholstery, heated power driver and passenger seats, a heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, 19” wheels and a spare tire. In the US, the heated steering wheel is standard on the Advance trim. The RDX gets 11L/100km, 22 MPG city and 8.6L/100km, 28 MPG highway. Acura recommends premium fuel, but you can use regular. In Canada with standard AWD the RDX starts at $45,800 CAD, Tech $49,100 CAD, A-Spec $52,600 CAD and Platinum Elite A-Spec $58,000 CAD. The base FWD model starts at $40,100 USD/AWD $42,300 USD, Tech FWD $42,750 USD/AWD $44,950 USD, A-Spec $45,750 USD, Advance $50,100 USD and A-Spec Advance $52,100 USD.

    I bought the base 2022 RDX and living it. It is by the far the best value in this segment. It looks great, tons of room, great power for a 4 cylinder and very comfortable. I agree that the infotainment system touch pad isn't the best. It would have been perfect if they incorporated a touch screen with the track pad. With all the extra features they added to the base this year it's not a deal breaker. For the money, nothing comes close to this.

      If you say so, i'd personally stay away from touch pad infotainment. Even lexus got rid of theirs due to customer complaints of being the worst to use. Though Audi Q5 Progressive is a better deal imo.

      @@441meatloaf I had a Q5 progressive years ago. It was very comparable to the Acura RDX (similar hp, size ride ect... but it cost 10k more in Canada. Not worth it imho. The infotainment system is better but Audi made big mistake removing the track wheel and just leaving an empty hole? Should have kept both. BMW makes one of the best infotainment systems. You have the idrive with the touch pad. Lexus got with of the touch pad and replaced it with a very cheap looking screen. Terrible 360 camera that you can't control, harsher ride with run flats, and weird door release. Also Lexus NX is much smaller and more expensive. Acura RDX value wise is still by far the best.

      @@richarddawson5836 Audi doesnt even use track wheels in any vehicles anymore. They all upgraded to the new MMI system which is miles better over the old one. Its one reason why every reviewer said its one of the most easiest and best touchscreen on the market.

      @richarddawson5836 Год назад

      @@441meatloaf I know they don't use track wheels anymore. That was my point. Audi should have had it touch screen AND kept the track wheel for those that don't want fingerprints all over the screen The track wheel as more convenient as well since you didn't have to reach up to the screen. By removing the track wheel and not replacing it with anything but a weird empty box looks cheap. I've had both the Audi Q5 and SQ5 and for the money I will take the Acura RDX all day. If you want to spend another 30k Canadian then I would go for the BMW X3m40i. Great performance, large cabin and fun to drive...but maintenance and reliability would be a nightmare.

    • @441meatloaf
      @441meatloaf Год назад

      @@richarddawson5836 None of the german brands retain the track wheel. Even BMW went to full touch and so did Lexus. Track wheel isn't popular anymore and fingerprint generally isnt a huge deal. Most touch screens are made so you can wipe it away easily.

      Have the 2019 RDX and feel the trackpad works fine for basic infotainment use--Acura's user interface--because the focus/target control tracks with your finger placement on the trackpad. It works similarly to a touch interface. It really sucks trying to use Apple CarPlay because you literally have to flick your finger over the trackpad to drive focus to the control you want to interact with, similar to using a mouse. It is absolutely maddening, especially while driving. In my opinion, this UX should be viewed as a safety issue and forbidden by the regulatory agencies. It's a huge distraction. Acura's decision to stick with this interface comes across as arrogance. Sad to say, but the touch UX in our 2018 Honda CR-V is a thousand times better than the significantly more expensive RDX. That should be embarrassing to Acura/Honda.

      I don’t have experience with the track pad but I think it would be better than touch screen because I have a big one on the 2019 Volvo XC60. Touch screen is really hard to use. You have to take your eyes off the road to see where you’re touching and when the car is moving, your hand shakes so much it’s really hard to touch the exact spot you need to touch! Touch pad would totally address that problem!

At the Minimum, add Radio Buttons to be able to select the various InfoT radio selections easily, preferably convert this to a TouchScreen, or ideally, add Both ! Oh, the MPGs in my MDX is not even close to the Sticker MPGs. From what I've seen on other RDX reviews - owners are experiencing the same "poor" MPGs.

    Thanks for another great review. Acura needs to have a serious rethink of the whole center console design especially infotainment system, just like what Lexus does to new RX and upcoming new products. Acura doesn't have the most spacious nor most user friendly interior., especially TLX. The touchpad and large dial are very annoying, to some extent, dial feels bulky when it comes to interior aesthetic. This interior execution is enough to write Acura family off the shopping list. Thankfully new Integra isn't going this route, as its still based on the excellent Civic interior design.

    JD Powers ranking Acura/Honda so low with Land Rover and Alpha Romeo is plain FALSE. I dont care what stats or perimeters they used, I know they messed up. I am a used car dealer selling cars for decades so I dont need to know from JD Power that Acura/Honda are on the bottom on reliability. If Acura has many reported issues on a touch pad and LandRover has many reported issues on Powertrain, it's not the same but most likely the metrics they use dont differentiate on what issues are actually serious, major , real issues than trivial ones. Yes Honda/Acura have made some mistakes but are still only next to Toyota in over all reliability. TBH I had some respect for JD Power but I am now having second thoughts.

Same as your feeling about the touch pad and I hope they will offer retrofit to get a touch screen. However, I’m surprised that JD bashed Honda families regarding dependency. Acura and Honda are still taking advantage of maintenance cost as taking care of German cars isn’t easy and cheap. Overall RDX is a really good car for the long term drive and I don’t regret. As usual, great video. Thanks! I'm not sure about the MSRP's you're using, though. I know dealers tend to find a way to mark these up above and beyond MSRP, but your numbers compared to the 2023 models here in the US are $3,000 less than what's listed here. For example, the 2023 FWD RDX A-Spec is starting at $48,195 whereas your numbers from a year ago, state $45,750 US. I know prices went up but wow, that's a $3,000 increase over a year and for really, nothing any better or all that different. This puts this above what I'm willing to spend. If this was $40,000 with a few options to add, that'be one thing, but this thing is fast approaching the $50,000 mark and that's just too much.

However, Acura needs to step up to the plate and offer some type of electrification (hybrid, or preferably PHEV) and update the infotainment system. Don't get me wrong, pure EVs certainly have a place, but hybrids and PHEVs give people who aren't ready to make the jump many more options.

    Just purchased the top trim in the States: 2022 RDX A-Spec Advance and loving it. I also took the Audi Q5 Sportback Premium Plus Black Optic for a spin on the same day. For the money, RDX was much better value IMO. I decided to go with a lease and the money factor for the Acura was half vs the rate I got for the Audi as well, so overall it was a no brainer for what I was looking for. I had to go with the this new gray color, only this, black, and blue were available at the time. Looks great! In a perfect world, I would have liked white and wish the rims were black and not dark gray - but I just did a lease, so I am still super happy with the color option I received. Tip for the touchpad - start in one of the corners with your finger and THEN navigate to the specific area you want to select, works much better that way I have found.

    Have been watching all of your videos and will be buying one of these vehicles in this class. After your video on the GV70 was all excited about buying one of those and took it for a test drive. Yes all of the features were amazing and the interior was great but I was not inspired about the drive. I am going to drive one of these RDX's see if it hits the mark. Probably come down to one of these or a Q5. thanks for the videos

    My wife has a 2020 RDX Tech and I have a 2021 RDX Tech...we both love our vehicles with no real issues. Hers had a glitch in the infotainment that was fixed with an over the air update. I really like the push button shifter, but do agree a touch screen would be better on the main infotainment screen. However, I use the trackpad just fine until I switch over to android auto...that is where a touch screen would be preferred.

    Thanks for this video and I am shopping around for used 22 RDX for my wife. I have a 22 MDX Advance and it is true to avoid the first or 2nd year model release. For the past 2 years I brought in my MDX for warranty repair such as PGM-FI programming (rngjner auto start issues), tie rod nut replaced (clunking due to improper torque) sunroof motor replace and sunroof frame replaced. I’ve been with Honda for a long time and so far this 22 MDX win a lot of “breaking” records. I am planning to trade this in and get that 24 MDX Type S instead since I learned that the 2024 fixed most of those issues.
    I really find those push button gear selector very intuitive and so is the trackpad. But I do agree that it should come with touchscreen as well. The 25 MDX now came with touchscreen and ditched the trackpad.

    Track pad gets so much hate, however, once you memorize all your menu presets trust me it's a breeze and you can operate with your eyes closed. Now, the issue is when you switch over to AA or Apple Car Play. It's a mess as it's not a true touch anymore. Acura needs to incorporate both.

    One change that hasn’t been mentioned by any Reviewers, as far as I know, applies to the A-Spec models. The Red Leather on the 2022 is now on the Center Console Armrest as well as the Door Armrests. The previous years had black leather on ALL the armrests. Wonder why no one is noticing that? Loved the review by the way.

    We have a 2019 model, and its been very reliable, has good seats, good storage, has good power once it wakes up (see below), is a very handsome vehicle, but is probably one of the worst vehicles we have ever owned.
    1. The touchpad is a class action suit waiting to happen. It is VERY distracting to use, and if you're left handed its even worse!
    2. The gas mileage is terrible around 13L/100Km (worse than my F150).
    3. The stop/start is TOO slow restart (when you're waiting in an intersection it takes almost a full second to restart).
    4. The transmission is always in at least 2 gears too high, and can take at least a second or so to downshift into a gear with any power.
    5. There is a fair amount of turbo lag as well.
    6. There is a fair amount of wind noise/road noise (winter or summer tires)
    Thankfully the resale is fairly high, and we will be looking to offload it as soon as some of the hybrid SUV's (Toyota Vensa?) pricing become reasonable and in stock.

    We have a 2020 RDX ASPEC. It was in the shop for control arms (known issue), brake pads (known issue of noise / binding), and a steering wheel wiring harness that was clicking (also apparently fairly common). We also have a 2021 M340. So far the BMW is winning. The BMW is more like a Honda, the Acura is more like an old BMW. 2021 M340 has 17,500 miles on it, the 2020 Acura RDX ASPEC has 22,500 miles on it. The infotainment system, while not as bad as when he first got it (multiple updates later), is still frustrating. It often has issues booting Apple Carplay (I’ve never had any other vehicle that had this problem) and can even freeze occasionally with say the navigation app. We really like the RDX, but I’m actually beginning to think a reasonably optioned X3 is the way to go. Last, I should say I have a reservation for 6MT 2023 Integra. So it’s not that bad!

    Good review Guys. I have a 2022 MDX and agree, despite the fact that i have "learned" to use the TTPI , I still much prefer a Touch Screen or even better - include Both Touch Pad and Touch Screen. The new Audi Q5 Sportback has a nicer interior IMO. I'd like to see that Comparison review. I think that despite the TTPI , Acura has hit a solid Double, or a triple, not quite a Home Run. I have learned to accept the Push Button Shifter. The Active Dampeners incredibly is Not on the USA 2022 MDX Advance, but it is on the RDX (2021 included in the USA). Being more quiet is a Big Plus over the 2021 RDX that I test drove when comparing to the 2022 MDX in August 2021. One thing I believe is remiss by Acura - Should have produced a Hybrid for the RDX and the MDX in 2022.
