    Thank you very much for your VDO. I adopted a three-year-old cat from the shelter. She's really jumpy and afraid of everything. I try your technique two months after adoption to strengthen our bond, and it works like a miracle! Now, I can convince everyone around me that shelter cats are not too old to learn new tricks. Just give them time and love. Thanks again for putting this practical technique.

    This is so cute!! I bought the Cat School training kit and we've already worked with it for three days! So far, progress is really inspiring!
    I'm trying this skill, with mixed results. My 1.25 year old cat is great at putting her paw right in the cup, but the 6 month old kitten is still rather people-shy and going slower, she wants to put her nose in even though it won't fit. That or she licks or bites my hand for the treats' taste. My gut tells me to absolutely NOT move her paw myself, so I am being patient, and even in one session she's doing better already. :)
    Thank you so much, Julie! I never would have tried clicker training a cat; the common sentiment is cats are largely un-trainable, but you show that to be a complete myth!

    Thank you so much!! I used your methods to teach Kenny both tricks and how to press the FluentPet buttons to communicate, now I have a kitten, K'leah (weird name, I know, pronounced like Cleo but with an a) and we're going through the same courses, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS!! I'D BE LOST WITHOUT THEM!!! They eat different foods, Kenny is on a special Urinary food that K'leah can't eat, so I have to pick up their food between meals, but he's a grazer, so the main use for the buttons is him asking to finish his last meal. Without your videos I wouldn't've been able to teach him to press said buttons!

      @Selanon321 Год назад +1

      Also, side note, Kenny never mastered roll over, he was quite stubborn about not doing it, and had a lot of personality about "why are you making me do this, human" but K'leah got it first lesson, first suggestion, actually, when i guided the treat behind her head she was like WOOP (Kenny is 13, K'leah is about 16 weeks)

      Jones was around 10 months when I started training him. He understands the rules of the game so he doesn't "usually" try to sneak and get the treats, but I recommend new students wear a treat pouch so the treats will be out of sight.

    Long time lurker, first time commenter. Thank you for your well designed videos!! With your help, my cats have mastered these basics very quickly (+ sit & spin) but it’s hard to get them onto anything more complex that builds on these basics. All they want to do is high five, sit, spin. Nothing else! Trying something new results in their frustration and eventually them walking away. Any tips or ideas on how to get past the plateau (or if I should just accept this is their max level)?

    Hi Julie! Thanks to you my rescue cat enjoys his new life of showing off his intelligence! I came across a challenge with this trick: When he does the paw, he is able to target but I realize when I transition into fist bump that he gives paw with claws out. I think it was because he would try to get the treat out of the cup at first with his claws. Do you have any advice on how to train him to not use his claws but just paw? thank you so much!

    This is such a great video, thank you! I started training my 8 month old ragdoll after watching it, he is SUPER food motivated. It's only been a few days of short sessions is he tapping my palm with the post it note. I already taught him to sit with the clicker.
    Only problem is I stupidly used the same colour post it I use for everything else around the house. I went to throw one in the bin today and as soon as he saw the blue post it in my hand, he sat at my feet and started licking his lips....training time!! haha. I think he'll have the high 5 down in the next couple of days though.
    I also have a 12 month old Burmese who is SUPER smart but couldn't care less about food bribes. None of this works on him, he just walks off bored. Any suggestions for that?

    • @CatSchool
      @CatSchool  2 года назад +5

      Training may look something like this: Day 1: Paw target a cup. Day 2: Raise the cup and get rid of the treat; Day 3 -5: Repeat previous steps and work towards the Fist bump; Day 6: Introduce the sticky note. A couple of weeks is realistic. Have fun, and don't worry about the end goal since it's all about giving your cat the daily mental enrichment they need.
