Who will deny all in time all the lies?
Who will deny all in time all the lies? - Видеоклипы
Alice in Chains is one of those few bands that has a sound truly like no other. It's not a sound, it's a *feeling*
Exactly!
ther's a there there
Thats one if the best descriptions ive ever heard of this band. Im constantly drawn to them as the years go by. Amazing group.
I've heard their music described as " hauntingly beautiful"
Especially when you're still doing heroin
Layne at his worst is better than 99% of today’s artists as their very best. That is how talented he was as a singer. He is absolutely missed.
Absolutely
most definitely. He was a god.❤️
No teeth, completely smashed, hadn't bathed in weeks.
Without any doubt..
@@chriseason2785 and yet, possibly the greatest vocalist of all time, especially when compared to contemporaries
Jerry Cantrell is a genius. He managed to get this one last great song out of Layne Staley less than 3 years before his death. Layne was in the worst shape of his life at that point and just barely even made it through the sessions. However, Jerry was able to extract one last great performance out of him while ripping the best solo he had had in years. Again...genius. R.I.P. Layne. 💝
I almost see Colonel Parker with Elvis in your description...
Actually, Jerry and Layne weren’t getting along and barely spoke during these sessions. This was the result of Layne and their producer, Toby Wright working together when Jerry wasn’t there.
Even with Layne being sick and frail, he is still the most beautiful and haunting voice of my lifetime. I love you Layne.
I love him 2
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
Love you forever, sweet Layne 😢
Even during his dark days Layne can sing better than anyone in the business.. I pretend you're still alive...everyday...
+Tina Marie ditto that
Susan Staley-Simpson How are you??? well all Im gonna say is that my stuffing went flying cause I threw it across the room... that's how my Thanksgiving was!! I can laugh about it now but boy I was sooooo fucking pissed... well at least I didnt throw the turkey... see you cant fuck with an Italian from NY.. everything goes flying..but damn it feels good when you do it. LOLLOLO
Tina Marie lol lol
+LordSear1982 yeah it all sucked good for you
+Tina Marie Its... just worse nowadays..
It freaks me out how I actually miss someone I never met.
mroll1000 same with Kurt man
same way I feel about Bill Hicks....
mroll1000 We've all met him..
me too I have felt that way about Layne for so long
it's just the power of his music and voice simple as that
it shouldnt it only shows respect for such a being that even not knowing them you feel the loss that is the void they left in their wake.
A voice that can never be duplicated. Rip layne
It can't, but William Duvall does one hell of a job
@@ebronson78 because Will never tried to dublicate him
Listen to Chout and Skorned band
There's one fella out of Detroit he comes close but lacks his lyrical ability so he covers all of aic
@@ebronson78 Nah, duvall sucks.
Most haunting part about this song is Jerry simply saying, “ who denied all and tied all the lies?” The way he sings it and the sound gives me chills every time
Who will deny, all in time, all the lies
I recently read that this song and "Died" were written by Cantrell for his solo album. But he decided to do these two songs with Layne as Alice in Chains. And Layne wrote the lyrics for them. They were the last two songs Layne would ever do. And they sound like vintage Alice.
+Kenny B you mean Cantrell wrote the music/melodies and Layne came up with the words? interesting
+Kenny B I read they had to change the lyrics multiple times because Layne kept slurring the words due to tooth loss :(
He did one more song after these...Another brick in the wall...with class of 99
Yeah, they had to avoid words with "s" because you can clearly hear Layne's lisp
Megan O'Brien There's an article a few years back that details the recording of these last two songs. The band recorded all their stuff early and waited for Layne to come in. He was very late and arrived at 3am. It was his birthday and they brought out cake for him. At one point Layne made an excuse that he needed to go back to Seattle for his sister's wedding. Jerry knew he was lying and he said, “Laaaaaayne,” in an exasperated tone of voice. Turns out Layne was lying, his sister was already married for 2 months. Something may have happened there, maybe Jerry made one last effort to get to Layne because after that they recorded all their stuff separately and never talked for the duration of the session.
Dude is near death in this song and still sounds better than most artists out today.
This song deserves a lot more credibility it’s so damn slept on
@The Caped Critique yea I agree!!
spread it round
Yeah, man. I noticed how many of times there’s boobie traps that come along with the Easter eggs video wise. So, many of the rebuttals and riffing regarding beefs, rivalry and plain old competing flys under the radar.
Its ok thataway. Savor the sweet. Most of their gems ARE slept on. Radio/popularity will never have the integrity to match.
How so? Singer is toothless and a heroin addict plus the band was not together and touring anymore because of that. Deserve has nothing to do with it, they should have cared more about their fans, you know the ones that made them what they were but no the drugs came first.
This song is very disturbing. Especially in hindsight knowing what happened to Layne. Even as a dying man he still sounds great with a very eerie, almost other worldly tone to his voice.
That other worldly tone he had toward the end of his life was more like a warning of things to come. I hear it too..you're right.
his voice would be overdubbed up to 16 times, each track a slightly different harmony, that's what gives the otherworldly sound.
Especially since this is the last music video of him before that incident. Same with Scott Weiland..but Layne's was way more traumatic imo
@@duncan3998 this music video was actually made after he passed away. The guy hooked to the wires at the end is just a look alike, and the footage of him singing was taken from various live shows and other videos, they just edited really well.
this song almost sounds like his suicide note
No auto tune, a Layne Staley with no teeth, and absolutely no bullshit. This is what we came for. Rest in peace, Layne.
Sullivan Reed Yeah. The amount of crack cocaine he was doing let that happen.
And still better than any current pop singer today, amazing
absolutly yes
He was missing all of them. One or two tops at this point. It was heroin(plus speedballing with coke) that got him. I could go on but he was hurting bad from his girl dying and then the drugs turned on him.

Layne Staley, probably one of the saddest stories in all of the history of rock n' roll. What that guy went through ... wow. Cobain's not far behind, either.

It’s so irritating that people persistently remember Layne with his addiction. He didn’t want to remembered with his bad habits, he wanted us to remember him with amazing things he had done. Enjoy their music and respect his soul.
You have a beautiful point, but I like to think Layne had come to terms with that portion of his legacy, hence 'Social Parasite'. I think it was the passing of his fiance that just made him give up. I don't think he really gave a shit what people thought of him or what he chose to do with his time.
Given the lyrical content of Layne's songs brother, it's hard to disassociate his demons from his music.....same can be said for Kurt's songs.
He put the addiction front and center in the music....he sang about it literally....so I think if that's the impression people have that's fair....and if people dont see laynes amazing legacy ...with all its insanity intelligence angst and pain...that he poured into his music ...and think it's the result of drug withdrawals....you are dead wrong...I personally think he suffered from a mental health disorder....borderline personality disorder....
Listen to "Love hate love" and then look up borderline personality on wikipedia....
That song is the apitamy of someone suffering from BPD
BPD
It’s irritating when people tell you what other people would have wanted, even more so when said people have never met said third person.
@@felix200601 Yes, that is true, but you have to agree that great artists allow people to glimpse inside their world thru, in both Layne and Kurts' cases, their lyrical content.....I liken this to a Jim Morrison lyric, "I need someone who doesn't need me." The artists and philosophers allow us inside and from that point forward we apply our own worldview and empiricism to conceptualize what we see or hear. Please, I am not trying to come off as trite or pompous.....I guess I am trying to explain how I receive what both Layne and Kurt gave us. Does this make sense because I am not sure that I am accurately conveying into words what my mind is thinking.....I fucking hate that haha!
He was a prophet of his own ending and a hell of a singer. I would say rest in peace but I know he lives on in the life to come.
He does live on, agreed.
please Layne get born again.....
Both Dime and Layne
AMEN. Could not have said that any better.

Cantrell is so underrated as a musician.
Hate cantrell... never been impressed with his conduct on or off stage, lane Staley is alice n chains even now
Jerry created the AIC sound. Layne wrote the lyrics and badass vocals but Jerry is the other half of AIC. No doubt.
Canttell is amazing
I just disagree, the blatant disrespect from Jerry after his death sickened me,till the moment may would have been more receptive too all your facts
Cantrell is a savage
Phenomenal song. Don't know where I'd be without AiC. R.I.P Layne
You can never be so sure any artist died as and when announced, due to the control of their lives the artist gives up in their contract with the label. There is a death clause in that contract, and that label has a 2-pronged financial incentive for the artist to die... 1) key man insurance policy and 2) Immediate and lasting bump in sales once the artist dies. AIC could not even headline a tour (inadequate demand due to lack of recent hits), serving only as a warm-up act for washed up 70's bands. They also apparently didn't care to work in studio anymore either after these 2 songs, so how is the label going to activate their "golden parachute". Some artists' deaths are probably authentic, but others are "staged". Unless you were personally there inside of Layne's condo, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW THE TRUTH. Taking someone else's word for important events, is a sure-fire way to be conned and taken advantage of. For all we know, Layne could be enjoying life in Tasmania or Switzerland right now, 6'1", 190 lbs. and bulletproof. Just kicking back with Demri in their golden years and laughing at us peons for mourning their sad deaths... while they spend unlimited funds to their hearts' content. www.bitchute.com/video/x99CEKBhvmOG/
@@davidplonk3317 Give me a break. Layne isn't enjoying anything. He is gone. Forever. He was a unique and an incredible talent that managed to create something truly unique and priceless. and then he died. There will never be another Layne Staley in the history of the entire universe.

The team around him, especially Jerry and the studio guys, deserves the highest accolades for what they constructed together.

Its been 20 years since his death, can’t find pure singers such as Layne anymore.
Judging by this song they were going in a totally awesome direction. Every time I think about what could have been and will never be I feel like punching through walls. Do you realize what we lost here?
Its like not even the music changed, the personality behind the music changed. You can detect the energy behind laynes voice that isnt melodic just emotional. Cuts deep as hell straight to the bone.
IntoTheHeartOfMusic You're needlessly torturing yourself. What could have been was not meant to be.
Substance abuse is death on the installment plan. The persons I feel for are Llayne's band mates. They had to watch him die a little bit at a time. They could not do a damn thing about it.
I hope that they have grieved Llayne and are creating new songs. AIC has done some nice work since Llayne died.
My Dad and Bro were and are drunks. I have lived the "Could have been" game. It's pointless and painful. Spare yourself the grief and stop it. Celebrate what was and move on.

That and being unable to appear in your last video.
AIC aged better than wine.
This is actually one of AIC's best songs, imo. Although that's hard to say since pretty much every song of theirs is great. Poor Layne was on his way out by this time...He had no teeth, weighed about 80 lbs, and was almost impossible to work with on this. But he fucking pulled it off and sounded awesome. That just shows how great he was. Even when he was at rock bottom, he could sit up, get into the moment and sing great. He had no teeth at this time from all the drugs, so he had sort of a lisp. I think his death is the saddest ever in rock and roll. Even in the very beginning he was an addict, but he always managed to pull it off and sound amazing...but the drugs were just too powerful. RIP Layne. And yes, I know Kurt Cobain's death was very sad too, but I think something about Layne's situation is more sorrowful than anything.
+nathantim For sure! Both make me cry, but Layne's death was so miserable. Poor guy.
the song itself is scary and sad and thinking about how layne was when it was made makes it even more
He was only missing some teeth but was gaunt and yes skeletal and because he was always slender the drugs destroyed his weight pretty fast. It's just terrible and it makes me so angry that music lost him. Him above all others!!!!
No he weighed 80 pounds when he was found dead and had rotted for 2 weeks.
aic greater than nirvana. period.
That opening guitar riff is hypnotic. I wish I could jam with Jerry some day. What a dream.
He's a true musical genius...
That’s a good dream to have.
One of the best songwriters ever, absolute genius
"Can you protect me when I'm wrecked, fair weather friend of mine" Feels like he's singing this right to God while he's suffering like he did

Underrated song from AIC. One of their bests in my opinion, so dark and powerful. That sad and melancholic intro, the heavy riff, the lie-die-lie chorus, the pre guitar solo and the guitar solo and those lyrics... "sad suffering... get born again..." singed by Layne and Jerry. SUCH A FUCKING MASTERPIECE!!!

Well I'm not sure of this but I readed a long time ago that it's related to Layne's father who left him when he was really little. So the wish to "get born again" is to be with him again and get to know him.
Ok, this is going to be a little lengthy 😊 I hope u dont mind , ok first off this was 1 of 3 last songs Layne did before he left us, so his state of being was not good 😔 'Healthy ' wise' so him sitting any length of time doing anything, was a challenge because he basically need a 'boost' of H or something of equivalent we will say, about every 3-4 hours.. so when recording vocals it a long task and he could just no leave to the bathroom to 'boost' himself while doing business. So the first line is 'sat suffering ' witch is him in withdrawal from opiates , the next line is 'I knew him when ' mean at one point while recording this song .he over heard Jerry talking to a guy named robert trujillo he was helping out Jerry with tracking this day . They where talking about Layne and Jerry said to robert trujillo ya man I knew him when he was clean & ext..ext.. .so Layne heard this BY ACCIDENT and changed what ever lyrics Jerry had down .and put that . Next line 'fare weather friends of mine ' meaning yea...that my so called friend Jerry? & robert trujillo talking crap about me....And the other lyrics you can kind of putt together. And so the othe lyrics like 'get born again ' meaning Layne coming out of seclusion 'his condo' witch in the last years he never left. HE EVEN HAD A RECORDING STUDIO BUILT IN THE MAIN BATHROOM SO HE COULD RECORD SCRATCH TRACKS !!!!! 😳 And a drum machine, and guitar paths , and some vocal paths ... stuff like that. And so the other lyrics like 'just repeat a couple lines" meaning the words on the lyric sheet. And the lyrics 'I pretend your still alive ' talking about his fiancé
demri parrott . She passed away... and well there it is just so you know they asked Layne what this song was about on a phone call on some tv / radio show back in the day. And he said oh...it's about Hypocrisy.. as to not offend Jerry and others that where on the show... hope that helps✌️
No problem 👍 If you have any other questions feel free to ask!!😀
Cantrell is just amazing...his guitar, his composition...so distinct, but never takes away from the vocals... actually harmonizing with them
The band never actually performed this song together. Each member did their separate parts, especially vocals, which were recorded at different times, different studios. Digital manipulation had to be used to remove the lisp in Layne's vocals due to his lack teeth. Regardless of the messy road it took to create the last 2 songs with Layne, Im sure were all grateful they squeezed out two more songs before his passing.
Wow interesting i didnt know that. And i can really hear his lisp now that you pointed it out. Interesting! Thank u fella! Love you

Pretty trippy.
The craziest part is that even though he was dying, he still sounded amazing. Rest in peace Layne. ❤
I’m so sick of people spreading the lies about this man from that dumb book. That author Rubio or whatever her name is never met layne and never spoke to him. She made up that quote about his liver not functioning and him shitting his pants. Truth be told yes he wasn’t in great shape at all and he was pretty skinny and missing almost all his teeth in the end but he still went out to the corner bar once or so a week. He didn’t drink he just nodded off mostly. One of my old friends saw him pretty regularly from 97-02 and they used together often although he always went to his own room to boot up when others were in the apartment. She showed me a few pics of her with him and another person maybe his friend or room mate that she won’t upload out of respect but he was clearly still there only thing I could see from the pics that looked real bad was his weight and how swollen his hands were. He had a leather jacket shoulder length hair and was sitting on a Harley in one of the pictures. She said he used to have her bring him giant bags of cat food cuz he didn’t like going to the pet store. She also said he used a lot like enough dope to kill a crowd of people. She guessed he was using like an ounce every couple of days. Also she said he was getting both powder dope and tar in the end because the tar caused him problems and he literally had almost no veins left. She thinks he only let her get close to him cuz she was one of the very few people that got powder heroin in that area at the time. He also used lots of crack but not as much in the last year or so. Apparently his living room was also littered with syringe caps and there was almost no food in his place ever. Tried to get her to write a post about it but lost touch with her. Anyways that’s the honest truth believe what you want I could care less just felt I should put it out there.
This is chilling to the bone. Thank you loads for sharing! Mark Lanegan: I always hoped there would be some medical emergency that would put Layne in the hospital and give him a moment away from the routine of crack and heroin that might give him a break and some insight. That medical emergency ended up being his death. I remember Layne saying - I always just keep thinking I'm gonna get that same feeling I got the first time again.
Thanks for that mate. Sounds plausible to me. I was a heroin addict for 15 years. Such a sad way to exist (not live) it's not until someone you love or admire is gone that you wish you could have done more
Interesting. Thanks
Holy shit
@@misstembo2000 "I always just keep thinking I'm gonna get that same feeling I got the first time again." Yeah, that never happens. It just becomes trying to keep your head above water and not be sick.
When I listen to Jerry's riff automatically recognize Alice In Chains and those long vocal notes by Staley aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh...pure style.
The baseline of this song is insane.... So simple but yet so badass!!
How are the kindest most tender people the darkest?
I miss him and Chris Cornell every day along with Scott Weiland
Jerry Cantrell himself has said that 'Get Born Again' is classic AIC. Can't argue with that.
Man, I always think of what could have been, if Layne had not succumbed to his addiction... Even in the band's last and darkest days they produced amazing tracks. Such a shame. I miss Layne so much, but greatly appreciate how Jerry is keeping the band together and alive. They truly got "born again"...
This was the beginning of his end and still it shines brighter than ever. The talent that he had and the haunting gift he shared was cut so short. What only could’ve been? So many gone so soon.
That solo at 2:45 is beyond sick. Love Jerry's trademark dark bluesy sound.
The bass line is just awesome
Fucking great video by the best band of the 90's. Layne's voice is simply irreplaceable. The harmonies are amazing in this.
This and Died are so ridiculously ominous to me. All the "what ifs?" I get from Get Born Again and Died regarding Layne. Imagine if these tracks inspired Layne (if nothing else for passion of creativity) to get his shit together? These were originally for Jerry's second album so imagine if Degradation Trip had been an Alice in Chains album? Or imagine if AiC pulled an STP and fired Layne? Imagine him working with another Alice-like group like the guys from Days of the New/Tantric or the musicians from Godsmack?
Even the titles of these final two songs of Layne's life "Get Born Again" and "Died". Even then he still had two roads to choose before him and ultimately he went with Died.
The greatest amalgamation of vocals of the “grunge era”. Cantrell & Staley are the entire package. So much good music in such a short span. Love me some Alice In Chains.
From everything Ive seen, heard and read, Layne always had a close relationship with his mother. I dont care what anyone says or thinks, losing your child before yourself is absolutely the worst heartbreak ever. I know because I lived it. Poor Nancy, Layne"s mom, got that phone call from AIC's former manager and also accountants, that all financial activity in his bank accounts had stopped. Nancy called 911 and reported her son missing'. Accompanied by two police officers, Nancy and Jim Elmer, Layne"s stepfather who knew him since childhood, went over to his condo where the cops broke down the door and made the horrifying discovery. And now, Nancy has to live with that image for the rest of her life. God bless this remarkable lady, who said, tragically, that all she has left of her son are ashes in a box. God bless you, Nancy.
Yea. My mom always says,
"You should never have to bury your child. You should only bury your parents."
Henry Zarzicki I've been there , done it . I will never get one it. It's a pain and a hole in my heart that will never be filled.
"I'm the man in the box"
That's so sad rip layne and mike
She is a very nice and strong woman i had read many interviews on the Seattle times, saying how she has encountered many horrible people telling her to her face that “he got what he wanted” thinking that it’s a choice when it’s not, she responds in such a wise way. I even got the chance to talk to her via email and she says she misses him every day. Glad people like you not only think about layne but also about what his family went through
Layne was & still is the greatest voice ever!!!
Miss him everyday but never get burnt out on the music of AIC
Just imagine how great albums could have been recorded in 2000, 2002 and 2005 if Layne wouldnt have died
Cantrell showed these cool riffs to Layne. The lyrics and arragement is all Staley. We are lucky that he had the energy to make these two last songs. Get Born Again and Died.
Sad he is gone but his voice is with us forever thankfully.
Thinking about the state of his physical condition when he recorded this song just blows my mind! Layne was still right were he needed to be vocally!! Damn, did he get overlooked a ton when people thought of the best vocalists! He is singing this damn song with no teeth!
It's fucking amazing how Layne could make his voice sound like an auto tuner but it's not. His vocal style was so unique and you don't hear anyone else like that today. RIP Layne 🌹
He didn't have teeth so he had to do something different
He's harmonizing with Jerry for a lot of the vocals
He was toothless so thats how.
over-dubbing his voice in many slightly different harmonies, sometimes 16 tracks for one verse, was his trademark sound.
Layne is one of the top 5 hard rock voices of all time. Never again will we see a hard rock band this unique.
In my opinion best band ever. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of greats. Zeppelin, Tool , Stp, Pearl Jam the list goes on. But for me this band grabbed me when I was a teenager in the early 90s. They have been my favorite ever since. Much love and respect to this group of guys!

+Christopher Bishop how could you not he was gorgeous and amazing and he left us too soon rip
Ik i am a fan of anything that has to do with him myself
+Susan Staley-Simpson I totally agree.
u seem cool as shit and to love Alice as much as I do awesome
This guy Layne weighed 87 lbs when he was found dead. He was 6'1. Poor guy. RIP.
Johny Law he liked junk
very sad...:(
Johny Law to be fair, his body was dehydrated after two weeks...if we're going there
Ricky G he was less than 120 pounds that last year or two of his life.
Damn he weighed as much as me
People don't understand.... Rock is absolutely dead.. but lives in right here.
Rest in paradise you beautiful soul.
The way Layne taped the 3 microphones together to make that unique vocal sound was BRILLIANT !! Add to that Jerry's guitar and WHAT A SOUND!
Staley/Cantrell collaboration one of the all-time greats in rock/metal.
After reading the comments about the visuals of the video being 'weird', it is well composed. It is about how drugs drained the lifeforce out of the band. For a time a 'mad scientist' carefully coordinated and puppeteered something already nearly dead, but "Heroin" (the female automaton character with blue veins and smoking headress) is pure chaos and destroys the band, they (already enslaved) rapidly wither, and crumble to dust.
No one has this voice - even in their dreams .. even strung out as sh*t .. even dead he gets us high just listening
Damn, they got heavier as they went on.
What should not have neem possible, was made very possible. Amazing song.
It makes me seriously wonder about the music that they could have produced had Layne conquered his demons. Honestly? If you were to ask me what Layne and Jerry could have done if Layne had gotten clean and Jerry as well, with both of their talents unimpeded by the evil drugs, they would have created music that put everyone else to shame. They were the greatest duo in music, in my opinion. Those two would have been completely unstoppable
Nd Hickson probably would’ve sounded like some of Jerry’s solo stuff, degradation trip was a great and really dark album. It’s a shame Layne’s productive time in the band was really short, basically from 89-96 and that’s it, a few songs here and there but that’s about it, they probably could’ve cranked out a lot more great shit. Jerry is one of the best songwriters ever and Layne singer so the combo would probably always deliver.
@@puppetmaster8551 you're probably right. Imo it probably would be a mix of Jerry's solo work and AIC's last three albums with DuVall. DuVall is a great vocalist and guitarist but Layne was just one of a kind and had he been able to kill his demons once and for all, there's no telling the endless amount of mind-blowing music that would be here today
@Ty Shakur Jerry wrote 90% of the songs.
A very underrated song and video. Many underlying nuances in the chorus/refrain. That is the subtle genius of Cantrell and Staley.
This song needs to be revisited.
It certainly deserves more attention.
Probably needs to be re-released. Especially now in 2023. It is more relevant than ever.
@@annwrogtruth!!!!!
Staley and Cobain both them men opened me up to a world where it was okay to be different. Embrace all the ugly that you can because this world aint as pretty as some people claim but in their own way Layne and Kurt created a world so warped and weird but it was just normal to guys like them to feel and connect pain in such a beautiful and poetic way and it shows when people like ourselves stick to certain things good or bad these blokes saved me big time long live the both of you.
He still sounded so good here.
This video creeps me out, especially knowing that they had to use old clips of layne because if the state he was in recording this song. Just that makes me so sad. Heroin is bad kids. Don't ever do it!!
heroin is bad, but methadone it harder to withdraw from!!!! :(
Heroin is safer than any pain killer except opium, morphine, morphine sulphate, and a few others. It is the strychnine, quinine, drain cleaner, paint thinner, surface cleaner, diacytal codiene, 6MAM, and possibly more dangerous substances that make it worse on the brain and body than tobacco or alcohol.
There's been a batch of photos from these recording sessions that've been widely distributed lately and Layne doesn't look that bad in them. A little frail and confused looking, but no worse than Jerry looked during this time. I'm pretty sure by this point, given the precarious state of this band, they probably knocked these tunes out and all involved parties were thankful to get the two songs recorded that were. As far as videos went, it was probably beyond their point of care at that point how they were handled.
Yea I have a couple of pics of layne that are supposedly after this I'm guessing?? It didn't even look like him. But all I can say is I just don't do drugs I really don't care what is safer it's all shit if ya ask me. I've seen it tear people up.
Chris Edwards seriously he didn't look that bad? The pics where he don't even look like layne and where he so skinny and possibly missing teeth? The one where he's blowing out candles and the one with the guys dressed up? He def looks worse than jerry those pics are depressing he was in bad shape recording this song and died.
No other group or voice or lyrics could even begin to compare. Layne you are paramount. Always will be. You are a beautiful soul!!!
Sean Kinney is such an underrated drummer.
Sad suffering
I knew you when
Fairwell thee friend of mine
I try not to think
I merely blink
Hope to wish away the lies
I
Can you protect
Me when I'm wrecked
I'll pretend you're still alive
I choose the day
One death and grey,
Thick fog, I hide and smile
Clear all your sins
Get born again
Just repeat a couple lies
Lies, yeah
Sad suffering
Get born again
its definitely "fairweather friends of mine"
"Just repeat a couple lines"
There were more lyrics but Layne kept slurring them so they repeated "a couple lines".
I choose the day
One damp and grey
I didn't realize The Borg jammed to Alice in Chains.
That opening BASS line is vicious - Jerry's guitar BRUTAL - such talent all around - so sad for LAYNE to go this way... such a great singer..
This gives me big TOOL vibes…RIP to the dark angel 💜
Rest in peace, dear Layne! FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS!
This and "Died" deserve more recognition actually
I have always liked the music of Alice In Chains. The lives and habits of any of the band members, or of ANY artist, is none of my business. I met them for their art, their strength, that's all I need to feel from them. That's what they sold me. that's what I bought.
fatfender48 for a group that wrote some of the most heavy, depressing and dark songs about drugs and addiction... they were pretty goofy when they weren't playing or writing. they had a great sense of humor as evident from Nona Tapes and AIC23.

Dude, couldn't have said it better myself.
The flawlessly, silky smooth harmony of Layne and Jerry is phenomenal and mesmerizing. We should call it Larry.....or Jayne.
Dude rocked himself to the graveyard litterally and was still the best😂❤💯 unreal
They always made a video with the right ratio of creepiness to interest, which is why their vids are so damn good
Alice in Chains rules forever
Amen.
Cantrell, the last living guitar god from the 90s - the creepiest heaviest riffs on the planet
I always viewed this video with the Emperor Palpatine-looking old guy to symbolize a past his prime & sad/angry/drugged-out Layne, trying all he can to get the younger Layne back and Demri being the female alien wandering around in the video. Hence why the young in his prime Layne is being "cloned" into the old man. Layne is angry about his state of being and still wanting to reach Demri. And the female alien destroying things represents her downward spiral into addiction, with the old man in the video clearly upset. That's the only way I can comprehend the meaning of this video.
The video seems a hybrid of "Stinkfist" and "Vicarious". Alice In Chains and Tool. Best (and most interesting) bands on the planet.
This is Layne's song for Demri.
Wow! To Lori: I'll err on the side of being sexist, but you are absolutely gorgeous.
dirtonmyfacelift51 Died definitely is.
Had that same thought... very Tool-ish... tis a good thing. Best bands indeed!
Mad Alice: A Tribute to Alice in Chains & Mad Season Is your avatar a custom job?
My twin brother just overdosed and alice in chains just hits different now. Love you chase you sick bastard ill play alice in chains twice as loud for u
Sorry about your brother
@@Kinder_witch thank you it still doesn’t feel real. He was my twin and we’re just 21 and it was an accidental overdose. My mom was the one who found him. A twin is a bond i can’t describe with words. It just sucks losing him because i know he was the best relationship ill ever and could ever have period. I will never be as connected to anyone as i was with him, ever, and its just depressing knowing the best relationship ill ever have has already came and went. I’ll forever compare future relationships to him and that void wont ever be filled. Sorry im just alone rn and chose you to rant to lol but yeah its just a black void in my heart without my best friend. Thank u tho i do appreciate u just reaching out to me even as a stranger
im sorry about your brother my condolences, seems the best go young sadly. head up ❤
The ending always gave me chills. Young Layne staring at us.
When you think of what was going on at this point in Laynes life and where he was … the darker and eerier you realize this song really is. RIP Layne.. I wish things could have turned out different in the end, we all do. See you again legend.
Rest in Peace...14 years today.
Layne wasn't such a bad state that they couldn't even put him in the video the parts you do see with him are from other performances and or videos but he didn't miss a fucking beat when it came to those vocals my God we miss you Layne
I meant was in such a bad state not wasn't
jessie taylor
i believe the vidoe was made without Layne because AIC took a time out. Layne was working on other projects and Jerry on a solo album. Jerry wrote the song so he released a video on live performances
Denny Christensen no, Jerry has even said Layne was in too bad of shape. He could barely make it thru the recording sessions.
jessie taylor SURE I BELIEVE IT, BUT YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER JERRY WAS A COKE HEAD AND HAD NO ROOM TO TALK. THIS BEING SAID HEAVEN BESIDE YOU WAS THE LAST VIDEO OF ALL OF THEM TOGETHER. HE LOOKS JUST FINE A LITTLE SKINNY FOR SURE ON THE LIVE CONCERT AT THE MORE WITH MARK LANEGAN AND MAD SEASON. THAT WAS TRULY HIS LAST PERFORMANCE. THIS IS WHY LAYNE SAID IN HIS LAST INTERVIEW FUCK ALICE IN CHAINS AND EVERYONE IN IT! THAT WAS FOR JUDGING LAYNE SO HE MOVED ON AND WENT IN AND OUT REHAB. JERRY DOESNT WANT TO LOOK LIKE A MONEY HUNGERY ASSHOLE. LAYNE WAS WORKING ON OTHER STYLES AND IMAGES. I WOULD NEVER BELIEVE A DAM WORD THAT COME OUT OF A BAND MEMBER. IF THEY SAID WE KICKED LAYNE OUT FOR DRUG USE, WHERE DO YOU THINK THEY WOULD TODAY. PLAYING AT LOCAL BARS MAYBE. LAYNE IS AND WAS SEATTLE IMAGE. WORDS CAN CRUSH A BAND WHDN THE PEOPLE SEE ONLY 1 MEMBER IN THAT BAND LAYNE STALEY.
Denny Christensen there is a video here on RUclips that shows two stills of Layne while they recorded this song, Died, and the cover of Another Brick in The Wall. And he look horrible. He had to have someone hold onto him when he walked. Though he looked relatively happy considering he was dying slowly. All his teeth were gone. He was like 85 pounds. And it's heartbreaking seeing it. And a jerry and the rest made him a cake for his birthday during the recording session. But it's been common knowledge for years that he was just in too bad of shape to be put in the video. That was my only point.
One of the best openings of any AiC song
After learning the real Dynamics behind this song, the official video seems way out in left field. Layne lost his beautiful fiance. He was way more a simplistic get born again was his message. . His vocals are larger than life. His energy will be forever in the ether
Happy birthday dear Layne! I love you and thank you so much for all you've given to humanity with your music.
who's cooler than these guys? man I miss what music used to be!
Watching this in 2024 and it's still a beautiful haunting song. Alice in Chains knew how to tap into the darkside.
AIC is one of those bands what can actually express the inadequacy of being in my own body
people think he just died from overdosing. He died of a broken heart. Heroin just kept him in a state to tolerate the pain. He knew it was killing him, but as he said before , "Scared to death the reason why, do whatever to get me by.." and '"If I can't be my own, I'd feel better dead". Hard to misinterpret that. RIP Layne
saintdlee wish people would quit romanticizing his death. He died a broken man in the throes of an addiction he’d been struggling with for over ten years. As for those lyrics... JERRY WROTE THEM. He wrote almost all the lyrics and music for AIC except for maybe 4-5 songs. “Don’t Follow” that you quoted was written by Jerry because he was on tour in Europe missing his girlfriend.
Tse Tsa layne wrote more than 4-5 songs. he helped with almost every one. layne and jerry both wrote.
Tse Tsa - I counted 40 songs
Rich and growing sicker
In my opinion he didn t od accidently...he was fed up and tired to struggle in vain....he gave up for a long time and tried to suicide a couple of time ....that s why he was found dead with a plugged syringe of tar in the hand.....it s a suicide!if the first hit wasn t enough to kill him he was prepared to do an other one until overdosing......so so sad
Layne was supposed to be in the video but he was in such bad shape at this point that they just used old footage him singing.
Source, link please
yeah, he was like 80 pounds... at 6 feet tall, can't even imagine that
Lorenzo James he was 80 pounds after he was found dead, he had decomposed already. as for the video, they used old video for everyone else as well, probably to portray the getting born again message in the video.
Steak & eggs > industrial strength chemicals
@@jaymz that wasn't even him in make up?
Alice in chains is like wine just gets better with time
Happy (51) Birthday🤘 Layne

This music vid reminds me of a Tool vid with its weirdness
+Brad2Penske And that guitar in the opening...if you soften the phaser just a wee bit, it's pure Tool stuff.
Weirdness was actually a common thing to 90's, 'cause people, especially artists, felt that something was/is wrong with the world. Anyway, I'd say video ressembles more themes from two Silverchair clips.
my first thought!
l
Brad2Penske to think Layne and Maynard were friends, just imagine what that collaboration would sound like!
