Greeting from Australia, Genie 🐨🦘🦜😃
'The Seekers' were an Australian group. Their music style was frequently balanced between folk and pop.
They were essentially the first Australian group to find much success, not only here in Oz, but also overseas - although, I think the UK had their biggest overseas fanbase (such that, 'The New Seekers' started in the UK after the original 'Seekers' broke up [the first time] in 1969). The regrouped from 1975 to 1988, then again from 1992, and randomly to the present through occasional concerts.
'The Seekers' was very much a group that people around my age group (their 50s, through to early 60s) would remember from when we were kids, and our parents would play their copies of albums by 'The Seekers'. I always think of Sunday mornings with their music, as that was often the first album that my sister and I would wake up hearing to before (or during) breakfast. So, there's a lot of lovely happy memories for me with most of their music 😍🤩
The original line-up of the group, as seen in the clip that you played, were: Judith Durham, Athol Guy, Keith Potger and
Bruce Woodley. I think that Judith has retired, but the three mentioned men have always been a part of the group throughout, with various others who have sung in place of Judith.
Even though Wikipedia's not always the best for always finding completely accurate detail/history (seeing anyone can write anything in it), this link is a good starting point for further information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Seekers
Finally, there is one song of theirs that became quite a hit in the 1960s, and was the title of a movie that it appeared in: 'Georgy Girl': ruclips.net/video/wsIbfYEizLk/видео.html the clip is taken from their record-breaking concert in Melbourne, 1967).
(The movie, starring Alan Bates, James Mason, Charlotte Rampling and Lynn Redgrave, came out in 1966, and was set in 'Swinging London').
Thanks for that review, and I hope you like 'Georgy Girl'.
Cheers 😊👍
Anthony Rogers awesome stuff. Thank you so much for all this information and I will sure check out that recommendation or just react to it, take care my friend & keep safe :)
@@akagenie502 You're welcome, Genie 👋😃
Best wishes 💐😊
Anthony Rogers sane to you my friend :)
Spot on
I instantly fell in love with this song the first song I heard it on a jukebox in the 2000s in Portland, Oregon. The tavern was lost to gentrification but what sounds it had! Disco, folk, Beatles, metal, everything.
she passed today at 79.. Aug 6 th 2022. I was 12 in 1964 I recall this on my radio.. was big then... 60's had best sounding songs
I was blown away when I found this song on a jukebox in a dive bar in Portland, Oregon in the 2000s. The tavern has been lost to gentrification but that music player was the best. It had disco, folk, psychedelic, Beatles, metal, everything.
I am 70 and this is the soundtrack of my youth. So good that we have this recording to preserve such beauty.
Judith Durham has just passed us by. I cried when I heard of her death. They were the first 'band" that I ever saw, at a festival in Brisbane, Australia. I was 10 years old and and have loved them all my life.
Wow I knew she was sick. Thanks for the info. SO SAD.
We ALL CRIED when hearing the passing of Judith. The same gut wrenching sadness when Karen Carpenter passed.
she still has "the voice" well into her 70,s
Love the Seekers. Judith Durham is amazing. For such a tiney woman, she was gifted with an incredible voice.
Judith has one of the most beautiful voices in music....stunningly beautiful, timeless song
Two minutes and 40 seconds of probably the most expressive song ever sung.
Thank you :)
The Seekers were special, my favourite folk-group, always loved them, greetings from The Netherlands and thumbs up!!
Her voice is right on the edge of being too good to be true. You get the feeling right away that you want to hear her voice alone more in the song.
Its always so funny watching peoples reactions when they hear Judith Durhams voice for the first time. Its always like " oh my god, is she real" She was so very real and unique, we miss her so much.
Yes she does have a beautiful voice. That is Judith Durham. The girl who sang Georgy Girl
The greatest love song of all time!!!
The group in 2004 were still together and performed this song even BETTER 50 years later. The lead singer Judith Durham is among my top 10 pop singers of all time. And they once performed this song in front of the largest outdoor crowd: 200,000
People!!! Over the years I’ve listened to this incredible song hundreds of times and never tire.
Thanks for the video. This song got to number 1 in 1964. Judith's voice is so beautiful. Have a listen to their other song: Morningtown Ride. Wow. Lovely harmonious.
A beautiful voice.
Great song -- I am so glad you appreciate it and the Seekers.
Genie, I love your reaction to that song and that you only stopped it once. You were so right about the beautiful harmonies and the lead singers voice and one thing that i really enjoyed about the song were the words that told a story about love.😊❤👍
The seekers had a very unique song, accentuated by Judith Durham's captivating voice. They had so many great songs. Thanks for the play.
Judith Durham was Australia's first Pop Princess, old enough to be Kylie's Granny and still belting them out. In their time, the outsold both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones (Their final album knocked the Beatles, "White, " off the No 1 spot in the UK album charts, and prevented the Rolling Stones, "Beggar's Banquet, " from reaching it).
Judith was a classically trained singer and i believe still sings.
I get even more of a feeing of excitement these days when listening to the Seekers than I did when I was a little girl. It's so wonderful to have someone so young to have discovered them much more recently.
I really wish we could make them so generally appreciated as they were in the 60s.
It might surprise some to know the Judith is only 3 weeks older than Jagger, younger than Charlie Watts and only 3 years older than Debbie Harry (almost to the day).
Well Anthony covered that quite extensively. I have loved the voice of Judith Durham for ages. It's so pure and lovely. Per Wikipedia she had a stroke in 2013 which weakened her ability to read and write. But it didn't affect her voice. But she is officially retired. She was with the group for a total of 33 years --but not sequentially. I am fond of many of their songs. "A World Of Our Own" is another favorite of mine. Whenever I hear "Morningtown Ride" it affects me. It makes me feel nostalgic.
Tim Carr agree it’s pure & lovely. Wow 33 years in the group that’s awesome. Got to surely react to more of the seekers. Thank you :)
Absolutely wonderful!!!! 😊
👍 👍
Great reaction to a timeless classic
This was still a phase American pop music was going thru in the 60’s It’s called folk music, Lots of harmony and usually no electric instruments. It’s a lot in common with their peers, Peter Paul & Mary; Kingston trio, etc
sc su it’s just amazing how singers back then could sing naturally without all the fancy stuff today, salute! Salute 😎
Love Love Judith The Best ❤❤❤❤
This was a song of its time. Not an all time classic but very catchy and I have a nice memory of it. But with that said I always feel sad after I hear it. Strange. But you are right, the voices are fabulous.
Tango Eliott thank you so much for watching, yes it’s quite nice. Don’t be sad when you hear it just think of the good memories of it :)
@@akagenie502 I start off saying, Oh I like this song but it makes me melancholy for reasons I don't know how to describe. By the way Lori Friedman and Tango Eliott are the same person (Back Seat of My Car) but for reasons beyond me my PC and phone acct names are different.
Tango Eliott aww ok I get you. Thanks for letting me know Lori/Tango :)
They are still singing in their 70s
Genie, please listen to The Carnival Is Over.
The vocals are without peer.
Yes yes yes
Judith is a Living Australian Legend
They stayed together a long time. Please react to their 2010 Version. About a half-century later and the group sounds even better!!! Judith Durham voice among my top 5 female pop voices .

Lol EVERYBODY says that about Judith's voice. One of the best ever! Check out their live concert with over 200,000 in the audience singing the song "Georgy Girl".
Pure
Dr hook and the medicine show. - Sylvia ‘s Mother
Judith was also a brilliant Jazz Singer
You should hear her do DANNY BOY . WOW
spring of '65---------------Judith Durham is lead vocal.------------------i was 18 y/o--------------------60's classic !
ace love
Do you take suggestions? I'd love to see you react to Wolfman Jack's only charted single from 1973: "I ain't never seen a white man." I think you might like it. The Wolfman was a legendary DJ in the '60s and is featured in the film AMERICAN GRAFITTI.
Check out there I'm Australian
You need to hear Judith Durham's version of Danny Boy!
It's utterly angelic! 😇
Will be checking this out, thank you for your suggestion and for watching, appreciate it.
words cannot describe how great she sings danny boy simply incredible
All those sheep in Australia, and they can't find another ewe.
Oh for goodness sakes! You need to play "Georgy Girl" !
Hahaha ok I’m on it 😂
AFAIK only The Who with Who Are You featured something of their recording process. Dramatic license and all, but Good Lord...!
Genie, please never watch your cell phone for the reaction. Always look at us--the viewer because we are watching the screen....not your phone.
Try this one by the Seekers!!

Thank you, will sure add to my list to do. Appreciate your time :)
I find most female singers sound screechy to my ear, exceptions being Judith Durham, Karen Carpenter.
You must have been on Mars to never have heard this fake claim
Not really, they never managed to really crack the US market...
