You even said it that song sounds good at the start of the video hahaha react to Ragna Crimson Full op and ending both are of your cup of tea and I ain't lying, for me that should be top 20 (it's low because people don't even watch it) another reason is the anime is a 7/10 but the song is godly and manga 10/10
I watch anime openings when I watch the anime, and I have not seen the vast majority of the shows on that list, so I don't know their openings. That means my favorites would be very very different. I have however recently seen #37, The Legendary Hero is Dead, which you did a reaction to back in April. I plan to watch S3 of Rising of the Shield Hero (#22) but have not done it yet. In addition to being my favorite anime opening of 2023, I think it's one of the most powerful anime openings I've seen. Prior to making this post, I did watch the Oshi no Ko opening, but not having seen the show, it doesn't really mean anything to me.
There is a song MindaRyn - "Fireworks" ( it is a special ending (EP 6) for the anime "Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion"). The song is so good you should react to it, you would love the singer's voice.
@cedricmichaud552 He has heard her before, MindaRyn did Like Flames for Reincarnated as a Slime. Her doing the ending for By the Grace of the Gods (her first pro song) got me to watch that show even though Crunchyroll didn't have a proper description for it at the time. She did the opening for S2.

Your surprise in many choices seems to be influenced on your view on the singer and their's supposed fame.
But you should keep in mind that in these types of poll, people vote firstly for an anime they watched or liked, so Aimer or One OK Rock or anybody could sing the opening for an anime, if this anime was not watched by many, then the song will not be known by many and it will be low in the poll despite its quality.

Couldn't agree more. No matter how good an OP is, if the show didn't get a ton of views it won't get many votes. It is also really hard for most people to separate the show from the OP. If they didn't care for a show, even if the OP is amazing a lot of people won't vote for it. Personally one of my favorites from this year is the Ippon Again! OP, but I was probably one of 12 people who actually watched it, so it wasn't anywhere near popular enough to get on this list.

About your question at 15:00 Here's the thing... the anime watching experience encompasses watching the OP and ED together with the episodes (no skipping!). The OP and ED animation and music are tied to the feelings experienced while watching the anime episodes themselves. If you're watching an anime as it airs, those songs stay in your head, replaying over and over until the next episode comes out after a week, so it's very hard to rate an anime OP/ED without the influence of the anime itself.
Idk about others, but I skip ops/eds after the first two-three episodes unless I like them. The ones I love I never skip
I _huge_ agree with this. though, I will admit, not all anime are created equally when it comes to this.
[SPOILERS AHEAD FOR VINLAND SAGA SEASON 2]
like, for me, "Without Love" was one of the best ending songs I heard this year, hands down. and it's not just because it's a pretty tune... it's also because the lyrics mean something different every time you hear it. at the beginning of the season, we see Thorfinn without love, for himself or anyone, and we can connect that to the loveless lives of the men he was surrounded by, all throughout season 1. why did they choose lives like that? well, it was all out of a sense of defensiveness. they'd done horrible things to innocent people. and the only way to live smarter than those soft, weak individuals, was to care about nothing. that way, nothing could ever be stolen from them. not the way that they did to their victims.
they become immune to grief, but only because their lives contain nothing of value anymore. there is nothing that they have the right to protect. and they keep on behaving badly, because they're sure that no one would ever forgive them now, so forgiveness is useless to ask for. by now, they can only convince themselves that tactically, it's worth it. "I kept holding on to the power and lost my freedom" is a line that applies to Askeladd in the past, Thorfinn, in the present, and Canute in the future, if he continues down the path he's on in season 2. so as we progress through the episodes, we watch Thorfinn search for reasons to let himself experience anything good at all, even after everything he's done. and we also watch Canute try to justify his choices, as the cost of his ambition becomes a worse and worse weight on his soul.
the song is always relevant. it stays the same, because it's true. no matter what in the story changes, or how it becomes differently relevant, it repeats again, because it's still true. it's an excellent piece. and I don't know if it'd be as easy to see all the ways in which it applies, if you weren't watching it at the end of every episode.
I also think this is true about Ranking of Kings, and it's second opening... but that's a whole other can of worms. just know that I feel a very similar way about it in relation to that story. "shake off the power that comes from malice" is actually a very similar lyric, but Ranking of Kings handles the whole conundrum from kind of a different angle. I love it for covering similar themes though.

The fact is that there are still many underrated anime openings that are very good, banger, and beautiful. It's just that the anime is less popular and is not included in the list, There are even some op that are better than some of the ops on the list
I'm truly sad that "Name" by Tsuzuri (The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses) didn't make the cut. Not enough people are listening to it.

also, I keep forgetting that Golden Kamuy season 4 didn't actually come out this year! it came out last year but then paused for a really long time because of a death on the production team, and then it resumed well into 2023 with the other half of the season... so I keep expecting Never Say Goodbye to be here. it feels more like a this year song.
also, I think it makes sense for Idol to be top of the list based on notoriety, but I think it got overplayed for me personally. it was everywhere for a while, and I got burnt out. especially because Yoasobi also did the Witch from Mercury OP, which I genuinely like better... I think I just like Yoasobi when they're a bit more subdued than the super upbeat tone of Idol, it's purely a stylistic thing for me. River never got old to me though... and I could listen to that Undead Unluck OP by Queen Bee forever and never get tired of it.

Bro.. I have been a Beyblade Fan for ages! Nobody listens to me when I say Beyblade is a great anime! I am so proud to finally see that its openings are making it to Top lists. Even if its Top 50 it was never that high in any list before. It feels soo great to see a show I admire so much and a show so underrated get this kinda praise. Salute to Beyblade.👏👏
River is ahead of Paradox for me too, but may be it got more people votes coz Survive said the prophet was the one singing the 1st OP of Vinland Saga too. So may be Nostalgia for many people to be biased on Paradox.

Goblin Slayer is an interesting take on the D&D genre and it really hit's the nail on the head.
About the ZOM 100 it finally finished airing .... it was on a hiatus after episode 9 and on the christmas eve we got the last 3 episodes.
River should definitely be higher on this list... if the quality of the anime is part of it, that makes it even more strange that it's so low. though a lot of heavy hitters did come out this year, so I'm not overall surprised. I just really love Vinland Saga.😅

Hyped to hear Heavenly Delusion is being watched soon. Great show that doesn't have nearly enough attention.
One song that should have totally been on the list is “Hyper” by Kroi in the anime “Under Ninja”. The popularity of the anime highly affected the number of people that heard it but it is a very good song. I will place it in TOP 20 of this list.
Whoever put the Link Click S2 OP at #20 belongs in an insane asylum.
If you want to watch Zom 100 it's a great time to, the anime had some serious issues with the studio having to delay and the 9th episode was the last to come out until yesterday/Dec 25th where they dropped the last 3 episodes of the season all at once.
It's an amazing anime though, super high quality visuals and very enjoyable story so far.
Oh, I forgot to vote😅Idol sure was popular this year, today Yoasobi uploaded a new music video with 1000 18 year old participants, I liked the art style of the music video and I just watched the live, and it made me really happy to see everyone so happy to sing along with Ikura.

the one singing the Rurouni Kenshin opening was AYASE, thats 1/2 of the YOASOBI group, cause the composer himself usually make the music, but sometimes he sing.
5:06 I mentioned on the last opening reaction (I know you can't remember every comment and might not have read it by the time of recording anyway), but Undead Murder Farce OP is actually sung by a Kpop group, so it makes complete sense for you to think that XD
And like I said last time, that show was actually shockingly good considering my expectations, I really hope they make a second season because I can't find the light novels anywhere in english and the manga is both behind the anime, and 100x worse (they for some reason made it an ecchi and changed some stuff even though it doesn't fit the story at all)

an underrated op and ed from this year imo has to be the Gamera Rebirth op and ed. Sadly netflix animes kind of get forgotten or just end up flying under the radar.

please consider watching Pluto at some point. it's very good, and I wish I could say more, but there's no opening. I don't think it needed one, I can't imagine sitting through an opening when I have to know what happens next so badly every episode!
I 100% agree with your take on Ao no Sumika being better than SPECIALZ, SPECIALZ does fit the mood of the Shibuya Arc but the emotion from both Ao no Sumika and the ED, Akari, put it a step above for me. They both feel like proper "Remember the good ole days" songs.

Idol is definitely my #1 Opening of 2023, too. It might not be the best musically, but the meaning of the lyrics and the story they tell relating it to the anime has made me cry several Times.
The only times in my life I've ever cried to a song was listening to Idol. With oshi no ko being the only story and piece of media to make me cry.
Glad that Nero made the list. You should try to listen to Kenka, Reign of Seven Spellblade OP, such a beautiful song, sadly rarely appear in these lists. The ending song is great too.
I'm sad that the OP of the 100 girlfriends didn't come out, it's not an OP that's among the top 30-40, but I think it's more than qualified to be among the top 40-50, it's a good anime with a good OP

I loved _Undead Girl Murder Farce!_ The Opening for _Ancient Magus' Bride_ Season 2 Part 2 is definitely better than Part 1, but it should be higher. _Skip and Loafer's_ Opening is so catchy and sweet. I tear up a little listening to it. The picks for 13-17 (_One Piece, Spy X Family, Mushoku Tensei, and Apothecary Diaries) should've been in the top ten.

They are original content (not in the manga) but are a good addition to the story overall IMO.

So many good ones from the year that never get any love, but for me 3 of my favorites of the year that got missed have to be Chillin’ in My 30s After Getting Fired From the Demon King’s Army, The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, and The Cafe Terrace and Its Goddesses

most notable changes i would personaly made woulde be: Danger in my hearth and lovestory with Yamada would move to top 20 and JJK openings would be outside top 5.

for the openings for Vinland Saga, as great as River is, you did watch the full version of the song unlike with Paradox. I'd recommend watching the full version of Paradox

I don't get why MF ghost was left off this list... it's easily belongs in the top half of the list. Initial D and MF ghost has always had one of the greatest soundtracks in my opinion.
I recommend you to react to rurouni kenshin 2023 one of the greatest animes of all time and it's so influential to the anime industry
Idol is just, the best opening of this year. It got the views, the trend, the lore (4 pages novel), the music (like it's just obvious), the animation (the MV one) to back the claim up, it got everything to be the best one this year.

personally, Idol isn't my favorite anime opening this year but I know how popular it was for the longest time so it's not surprising it's number 1. Mephisto though is 100% the best ED this year (personally)

cause you might have to watch the original 1982 version. (which lasted on-and-off until the late 90's.)
The remake of UY is more closer to the original source material
(the original manga lasted from 1978 to 1987)
Similar what they did to Sailor moon crystal is closer to original manga then the original 95 to 2000 Sailor moon anime that based on the manga but not 100% direct... (the original Sailor moon manga is far darker then the first TV run.. .similar example would be Cheeky Angel - TV anime version was much tamer then manga.)

Ahhh I'm kinda sad that none of the music based series OPs made it on (bc both Hypnosis Mic and Paradox Live got an anime adaptation this year too) but they are very minor series that has a targeted fanbase so it makes sense. Undead Unluck, Kusuriya, Dr Stone, Bungo Stray Dogs, Tengoku, Hells Paradise and of course, the best of the year for me, Shangri-La openings are better by far.
