►”Dance Of The Clairvoyants” Lyrics:
Confusion is,...to commotion
What love is,…to our devotion
Imperceptibly big, big as the ocean
And equally hard to control
So save your predictions
And burn your assumptions
Love is friction
Ripe for comfort
Endless equations
And tugging persuasions
Doors open up
To interpretation
Expecting perfection leaves a lot to ignore
When the past is the present and the future’s no more
When every tomorrow is the same as before
The looser things get,...the tighter you become
The looser things get,...tighter
There’s not one man, who’s greater than the sum
That’s not a negative thought, I’m positive
Falling down,...not staying down
Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down
Drown in the river
Expecting perfection leaves a lot to endure
When the past is the present and the future’s no more
When every tomorrow is the same as before
Numbers keep falling off the calendars floor
Stuck in our boxes, windows open no more
Collecting up the forget-me-nots
Not recalling what they’re for
I’m in love with clairvoyants
Cause they’re out of this world
I know the girls wanna dance…
Away their circumstance
I know the boys wanna grow,..
Their dix and fix and fire things
I know the girls wanna dance…
Clairvoyants in a trance
I know the boys wanna grow,...
Their dix and fix and fire things
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back!
Took my love...to have and to hold
Held me down in the river
Took my love...to have and to hold
Drowning in the river
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back!

Natural evolution to songs like "You Are" and "Pendullum". Been waiting for this a long time. Eddie's voice is perfect for this kinda tunes
Right!
Just like No Code I didn't like at first I became my favorite PJ album a long time ago and still is to this day!! They have made a living out of doing what they want. They have never done things just to sell records.
Victor Alves Spot on.
Thank you guys!! I'm not an EV fanboy but his voice is so awesome, it could be put throught many grounds.
Dude...that's a great ear, pretty hyped to hear the whole album now
The reason I fell in love with PJ was their punk rock rock influence. I freakin love this song! Eddie’s voice sound so great!!!!! Hope the rest of the album is as fresh as this. Can’t wait for Nashville baby!!!
Awesome song. Love it.
I'm absolutely in love. Perfect sound!!!
It's so fucking awesome that Eddie's voice is still as powerful as ever in his 50s. He hasn't lost it. Hell, yeah.
I don't think so. Live he is not the same so far. This music is very boring. Inovation is good, but it has to keep the grunge sound
Don't get me wrong, I love PJ but he's just mumbling into a mic and a computer is doing the rest.
@@danielfreitas4402 "Expecting perfection

@@mollyh7334 not the perfection with sure, but coud be better, at least what does the PJ unique, not this new track
no my dear, it‘s all PJ in ! Listen carefuly! 😎
Pearl jam are like your old pair of slippers......they just “fit” perfectly, they mould perfectly to the shape of your foot, just like their music always fits the state of the world.
Just let him know it sucks cuz you know it does and I'm a huge Pearl Jam fan
Agreed. Wth is this crap
Nice perspective....completely agree 👍
I was thinking this very same thing. 😉
Man, Eddie still has that lion roar.
Michael Fazio love angry Eddie!
It means that he isn't change at all... And this is the reason of my love for him

@@Thrawns_Office You are delusional at best.
@@Thrawns_Office Do you genuinely believe that, given the rise of the far right across multiple world governments, the skyrocketing amounts of "deaths of despair" around the USA and the rest of the world, the communities and people already being affected by climate change, that our half assed push for green technologies is going to turn this around? Scientists have just discovered that some ancient viruses are being found in very quickly thawing glaciers, 28 of which we have never encountered before. ANCIENT VIRUSES. This is like the beginning of a terrible b-movie about the end of the world. Sure, more people around the world might have fucking smart phones and the internet. But we are not doing better. More and more of us are being lost every day and more and more time is being lost every day. You can stand by and have faith that the very same system that brought us to this point will also get us out of it and one day there will be eco friendly shopping malls in every town on earth. But i don't think that's the way things are trending
This song gets better each time I listen to it.
it really doesn't.
It damn Well does, the first time I didn't like it, and second time I loved it
Exactly what i keep thinking !! I literally cant stop dancing to it 😂😍 LOVE EDDIE💓✊🎶
@Rob Melrose , it's an ok song compared to Arianna Grande and Cardi B but Ed's voice is toast=he should have used auto-tune to go along with the synthesisers and drum machine beat.
This is the way
Damn. I can listen to anything they record, just to hear different shades of Eddie's voice. Its diversity is immense.
I HAVE ONLY ONE WORD FOR ALL OF THIS:
PERFECTION
that leaves a lot to ignore 😌
So good
Yes
Dadylle Sandins Yetti Totally agree PERFECTO!...😎✌️
Its ironic isnt it?
The boys still got it after all these years. God bless this band
Nope
@Rob Melrose Stone said that Matt Cameron is actually playing drums in the song. So I'm gonna include him too.

Within a few hours, everyone was saying "Talking Heads!"
Now everyone is saying "U2, Achtung Baby!"
I'm still over here saying, "PEARL JAM!"
manofredearth it’s badass
I hear some talking heads influence and love it
THIS! i can´t understand why people keep saying that they sound like an other band when you can compare this song with Riot Act album or You Are
I hear David Bowie
The Killers - The man
It’s weird and experimental and I love it I hope the whole album is weird like this
BoogieBot5 same!!!
thats what i wanted to hear! not that people want ten 2.
Agreed! Was so glad to hear the synths. They're trying something different!
Truthfully, while this sound is new to Pearl Jam, the 2003-2006 era had lots of great bands with a similar sound. Strangely enough that is when I "discovered" new music beyond my PJ heavy decade. I'm totally interested in what the rest of the album sounds like though for sure.
Me too
I’m so happy to hear this!! I just celebrated my 40th birthday which means I was lucky enough to discover pearl jam from a “ten” cassette in 1992 when I was 12 years old and just starting to go through puberty. The band quickly became imprinted on my soul and I found myself looking to the wisdom in their music whenever I had difficult choices to make in my life. For people like me who’ve grown up with this band we’ll all agree that the band has changed and grown over the years just as is supposed to happen with all living things (It’s evolution baby!). Having said that, ( and this is just my opinion) I do feel that the recent records while more sophisticated melodically did seem to be a bit repetitive...(perhaps Eddie himself felt this way as he says in this song “we’re stuck in our boxes, windows open no more” ). PJ can write a great classic rock song, we all know that. But I was secretly hoping that the long layoff between albums meant they were looking to grow artistically and take more chances. Yes there are a lot of Bowie and Talking Head influences in this song, but the bass line is classic Stone and to move his grove to the bass is pretty cool I think. Eddie’s lyrics as always really have a way of connecting with me as well....So in conclusion and borrowing from “immortality” “Some die just to live”......this is great!
That's awesome. Us Gen X'ers got to know Ten while in college. Great then, getting even better now.
I feel ya brother. And for me it was 13 and my friends older brother jamming Ten. I never listened to music til then. Since....you can say, i only hear music because of this band.
I liked this comment!! 10x
"Imprinted on my soul" I hear ya brother
Same. I was 11 the first time I got to listen to the cassette all the way through. It's definitely a core memory. I have a vivid imprint of holding my yellow store brand version of the Walkman listening to Ten on my headphones while riding in the backseat of the family car as we drove along the seawall in Galveston. Aside from Eddie's love for surfing and the aptly titled "Oceans" track on that album, I think that first listen by the water is what cemented my association of PJ's music to the ebb and flow of tides in so many of their songs. Anyway, here's to our 40s and at least 40 more!
Their lyrics always speak to me at the right time. Falling down, not staying down. This isn’t anyone’s influence but Pearl Jam originality. Love it
The lyrics may be original, but the music is anything but. See: Talking Heads.
Peter Bissett i grew up with talking heads. This is original
I was like that with 10 but as time stretched Vitology, No code, Yield seemed to predict me and I was catching up.
This must still grow on me. Some of my favourite PJ songs is actually songs that it took me a while to get into
Every listen I like it more and more
Red mosquito, in my tree, force of nature to name a few. Ended up loving them all
Idk if anyone is fans of Muse here (I love them) but it reminds me a little of them, Talking heads but of course purely PJ. I admit, I initially shocked to hear this. But give it a few listens and you'll love it.
Same feeling bro.
Me too! Even PJ it was this for me.
Excellent.. For all time pearl-jam lovers...We are still alive...
When the song started I was like uh oh..... and then Eddie starts singing and it's like DAAAMNNNN!
This has been one of my favourite new PJ releases for a couple albums. The band sounds fresh, revitalized and current. It's awesome to hear the band playing with new sounds, and incorporating them so successfully into an extremely tight and catchy track. What a song! Can't wait for the new album!
I'm so glad they didn't try to go back to the hard rock/grunge sound....this is a great new sound.
@@brianpotter70 This is the most excited I've been since standing in a blockbuster for an hour so I could keep listening to the radio station play a full album preview of VS before it dropped a week later. Exciting times!!

Reminds me of No Code. And every album after. No fkcs given to past pearl jam conventions.. Each album wasnt initially great until multiple listens, and then, that's the beauty of this band
@@mrmcclintock534 No Code is one of the most underrated PJ albums and it's so pity because it has some of the band's greatest songs, like "Present Tense","Smile"or my personal favourite "In my tree"!I really wish Gigaton to sound like "No Code".It will actually make me extremely happy because I'm huge fan of this album.
Lmao !! I totally feel you, but honestly i grew up w Eddie so anything he throws out i really keep an open mind about because the man is always coming from a beautiful place with his songs. I've listened to this 20 times since it came out last night and I get chill bumps every time. Pearl Jam is back and i needed it!!
They are back!!!!! This is one that is going to blow people away. The intro has a "The Cure" sound/vibe to it and a "Talking Heads" feel but then it's all Pearl Jam. Listened to it a dozen times now and as usual they never disappoint. Fan from day one.
Yep dead on .. and I agree with your prediction .
Definitely hear the Talking Heads vibe and now that you mention it I hear The Cure too in the Intro
Feel the same. PJ foverer
If I didn't know better someone could've told me this was a Talking Heads cover and I wouldn't have been surprised at all
Yes! I thought of talking heads too! Holy crap, lol
I respect how Eddie overcomes and adapts with the music and his voice
Best single since... long time. Experimental, raw, good lyrics. Well played PJ!
I have waited for everyone at home to be sleeping, to put on my headphones and listen to PJ's NEW because I recognize that I am no longer a girl .... And 25 years later I continue to be impressed to hear, feel, a new song .... Incredible .. Amazing .. I love you PJ.💗
Talking Heads + Bowie + Gabriel + The Cure + whomever else still = Pearl Jam. And the. Video seems like what is happening outside of Do the Evolution. Incredible song...as always
Andrian Belew played with three of those artists either on album or in concert - his guitar sounds are out of this world as sometimes he'll play his instrument unconventionally in order to produce different sounds from his guitar.
Byrne Jam.

Rich Marty I’ve got the same feelings. It’s absolutely awsome!!
I've tried 4 times in the last 3 day and can't get through the whole song without turning it off or changing the channel.
I’ve always thought the last minute of Pearl Jam songs are usually the best part
Thanks pearl jam
I'll just say it's inspiring to me that a band can be so good at one point that decades later they can put something out like this and fans will still love them for it.
Seen it live in Ottawa on Sept 3rd... got the chills, the feeling was amazing ! Sound, lights, Eddie's voice... this song is out of this world...
Same a day or two prior in QC. Was the first tune they played after the 4 seated, acoustic songs. BLEW ME AWAY! SO TIGHT AND MOVING
Hello Mels, deadly song isn't it my mate, it's a beautifully design of a magical mix to start the day, is it a way to say it's a beautiful trick that never goes astray, or is it a way to say it's a sound that says this is King and it's something you obay, ok that's what I think anyway. All the best Mels 👍.
"Speaking as a child of the 90's"

Audibly and visually stimulating and satisfying.
Deep on every level.

@@Orangetension More early 80'ts but support!!
Everyone wants to compare this to something. It has an 80's sound for sure. To me, if you threw Pearl Jam into the early 80's, this is what they would sound like. YOu can hear influences. THe clash, Devo, Talking Heads, Bowie. I hear some Roger Waters in there too. But most of all, this is Pearl Jam. The more I listen to it, the voice is disctinctly Eddie Vedder, and the different melodies change throughout. A fresh and new Pearl Jam sound and I love it. Can't wait to hear more.
Makers Mike Perfectly stated.
Spot on Mike
Makers Mike talking heads! Their the ones I was thinking of. It was doing my head in trying to think of them
I had my mom guess who it was, and she guessed Sting, so there's that too...
Peter Gabriel. A high compliment.
This song is a marker of today’s thinking of humanity and a precious outlook on the world we live in.
I love the voice, the sound, the lyrics and what good images of the world in the video. ❤️ It's perfection
Mind. Blown. This song completely came out of left field and I shouldn’t be surprised. This band has made a career of doing the opposite of what we expect and staying in complete control of where their music goes. This song goes to a new stratosphere and it’s absolutely stellar. It’s 2020, it’s evolution baby! See you in NYC!
You took the words right out of my mouth! This IS EVOLUTION! I am so excited for what's to come. Kinda makes me feel bad for Tool now...
Pearl Jams new song release has made news in NZ ..... Priorities

Very David Byrne
Asaf Perets, you nailed it ! Big up
Second favorite part !!!
First one is when he repeats Positve three times😍😍🎶💓
Haley Grae technically, he only “repeats” it twice ;)
"Falling down. NOT staying down" my fave vocal, beautifully placed in the song and delivered perfectly, the intensity of mikes guitar cutting across it just amplifies the feeling it gives me.
If David Bowie was trapped in an elevator with Thomas Dolby, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, and Tears for Fears.....
Hahahahah true
This album will be loved or hated. It will certainly divide a fans... Does not sound like a grunge to me...
...and the Edge
its edddie vedder singing over arcade fire .
Must admit it's the first Pearl Jam song I came back to more than once in a very long time. Their previous song CAN'T DENY ME was horrible.
Loving the journey this band has taken me on over the last 30 years. This nods in lots of different directions but still manages to sound new and definitely like Pearl Jam.
My son was an awesonme natural musician and singer. I told him that Eddie Veder was the epitome of a deeply passionate singer. My son wanted to impress me witb his vicals... bless him. He passed over in November to become pure energy with spirit. We, both, loved your pasdion for music, Eddie Veder!
Sorry for the typos.
I just hope they never stop touring and making music.

I hope the rest of the record is this good because they've got my expectations super high now.
william gooding River Cross is on it, of course it’s gonna be brilliant❤️
That end refrain part over this footage...god it's 30 years later and these guys still know how to straight up HAUNT me when they want to (mean that in a good way)
Absolutely love this. Best thing they've put out since Riot Act. Hope the rest of the album is more in the No Code/Binaural vein.
you didn't like Avocado album? some great ones on there...
Riot Act was a album at first I hated now I love it
Cornelia Blackmoore no offence but those two albums no code and binaural were by far their worst albums of all time. Their first 3 albums ten,vs and vitalogy were by far their best and no other album of theirs has not even remotely come close to being better than those three that I’ve mentioned. This song is so far removed from their trademark sound and I’m not a fan of it at all but each to their own and everyone’s entitled to their own opinion cheers 🍻

This is so different from their usual sound, and it still SLAPPS. Let's go PJ!
"Save your predictions, burn your assumptions" - loved how he sings here...first half of the song I loved how he sings. Alot of anger and emotion. Awesome song. Hooked me almost instantly.

It sounded to me like he was pretending a dictator voice, don't you think? Like.. the video and the lyric appear to me as made on our time and the science negationism.
Jeff owns this song with that bass!!!!!
Because different doesn't mean necessarily bad. Different vibe, always PJ. ❤
I wholeheartedly agree with that first sentiment but I always enjoyed PJ for being organic. This just feels like an antithesis to that.
Eddie channeling some Bowie love it!
One of my goals in life is to convince those who claim they don’t like Pearl Jam to like them.
I’m at about a 100% flip rate because they just say “oh I have only heard the radio songs”
This TRUE rock and roll band who have stayed true to their roots with a nice twist of something different. You can’t beat those lead vocals by Vedder.
Also. I get a little David Byrne feel when Eddie says “it’s not a negative thought. Or positive. Positive. Positive!l
I love that
People call this “weird and cool” but it’s not “weird” in any way. Sounds/feels like a billion other things. It’s just weird that it’s a Pearl Jam song
It’s awesome that it’s from Pearl Jam 👏🏼
Maynard Frith glad you mentioned. Rich is my absolute favorite band of all time. And I can admit that there were times they went too far in a certain direction and lost a degree of their greatness. (Hold your fire I’m looking at you) lol. Love evolution, but always hope it’s for the better
@anthony Agreed
Maynard Frith yea I’ve been a die hard rush guy for a long time, I know the history. I was just saying that even though they’re my number 1, i can admit they went a bit too far in a wrong direction sometimes. I love each era of rush, there are just some albums I’m not into like hold your fire. Pearl Jam I also LOVE almost every album. No code is one of my favorites, it has a different approach and I get a more artistic aura from it. This new song. However, feels like a failed attempt at doing something. I can see what they were going for, but think it’s like listening to nothing happen for 4:48.
Chris Davies one would hope. Lol. But I think lightning bolt was 99% like listening to a fart and their “can’t deny me” single was awful, so after this single I have zero expectations. BUT I’ll AGREE TO HOPE
They still have the spirit that hooked me 28 years ago
Pearl Jam like a fine wine that gets better the older it gets
Hands down their best single in years. Love this band - I love the 80's, and this has an 80's feel....and that bass. A good band is a band that doesn't stand still, but keeps pushing the envelope. Wait for it at 2:33. On second thought 0:09. Hang on tight.

Amazing... fresh, old-school, experimental, raw... loving it...
Old school? LMFAO! Yeah right!
Fresh, new and great. Thats how artists should express their art form. Mixing all their influences to create something unique.
Just what Bowie did. :)
Music is soul. Soul is music. Let's bind and love each other
Can't wait to hear the rest of the album. This is definitely the most experimental stuff they've put out and it will need to grow on me a bit but I feel good about it. I remember the day I bought Lightening Bolt and immediately disliked some of the songs, which unsurprisingly, are now some of my favorites. I expect the same from this album. Immediately thought Talking Heads but this has more depth and rawness to it. Can't wait for Nashville!
If you really like music you ll find beauty at every single song of PJ even if it takes years to grow on you. Mike and Stone have musically gifted ears and allways know what the music needs even if it is a silent pause.
This is already better than lightening bolt. I think most objective fans would agree that backspacer and lightning bolt were their weakest albums and, not coincidently, their most overproduced and safe sounding records.
@@oneimage84 I remember buying LB at Target the day it was released. I sat in my car and listened all the way through. I already didn't care for MYM and didn't even like the title track. As with most PJ albums (post-90's), it takes a while for songs to stick to me. Fallible was a song I initially kept skipping over and now I think it's one of the most brilliant songs on that album. Same for the title track. I'm not sure there's a bad song on it. I expect the same for Gigaton.
I really liked LB but I was also a huge fan of no code however they're my favorite band so I can see how people would disagree. I'll buy this album, like always but I'll wait and see bcs I'm not a fan of this song. See you in Nashville!
“Sirens” is actually the song that ended my years-long avoidance of Pearl Jam. That song opened up the floodgates and now I own more PJ music than any other artist in my collection.

The tighter you become
The looser things get
Tighter
Not one man can be greater than the sun
It's not a negative thought
But positive, positive, positive
Falling down, not staying down
Coulda held me up, rather tear me down
Drown in the river
Expecting perfection
Leaves a lot to ignore
When the past is the present
And the future's no more
When every tomorrow
Is the same as before
Numbers keep falling off the calendar's floor
We're stuck in our boxes
When it's open no more
Could've lifted up they're forgetting us
Not recalling what they're for
I'm in love with clairvoyants
'Cause they're out of this world
I know the girls wanna dance
Fall away their circumstance
I know the boys wanna grow
Their dicks, and fix and file things
I know the girls wanna dance
Clairvoyants in a trance
I know the boys wanna grow
Their dicks and fix and file things
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back
I know the girls wanna dance
Away their circumstance
I know the boys wanna grow
Their dicks and fix and file things
Drown in the river
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back (Their dicks, and fix and file things)
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
(Drown in the river)
This song is a masterpiece. I can’t wait for the whole album
Insanely great Eddie Vedder's voice cuts just trough strait to our souls! By far the very best music we have heard in 2020 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
My favorite Pearl Jam Song of all-time. Not a big PJ fan, but this hits the spot.
Vejo anúncios em 100% do vídeo, da letra, do enredo e nas imagens "inversão do campo magnético da terra". Tem muita gente que vê e não entende, nem todos são clarividentes.
Viu o vídeo do Professor Afonso? abraços
This is amazing music
Very happy with this 90s revival happening right now.
Viva Pearl Jam , La mejor banda del planeta, Eddie por favor nunca te mueras....
[Verse 1]
Confusion it is to commotion
What love is to our devotion
Imperceptibly big
As big as the ocean
And equally hard to control
So save your predictions
And burn your assumptions
Love is friction
Ripe for comfort
Endless equations
And tugging persuasions
Doors open up
To interpretation
[Chorus]
Expecting perfection
Leaves a lot to ignore
When the past is the present
And the future's no more
When every tomorrow
Is the same as before
[Verse 2]
The looser things get
The tighter you become
The looser things get
Tighter
Not one man can be greater than the some
It's not a negative thought
I'm positive, positive, positive
Falling down, not staying down
Coulda held me up, rather than tearing me down
Drown in the river
[Chorus]
Expecting perfection
Leaves a lot to ignore
When the past is the present
And the future's no more
When every tomorrow
Is the same as before
[Verse 3]
Numbers keep falling off the calendar's floor
We're stuck in our boxes
When it's open no more
Could’ve lifted up they’re forgetting us
Not recalling what they're for
I'm in love with clairvoyants
'Cause they're out of this world
[Verse 4]
I know the girls wanna dance
Fall away their circumstance
I know the boys wanna grow
Their dicks and fix and file things
I know the girls wanna dance
Clairvoyants in a trance
I know the boys wanna grow
Their dicks and fix and file things
[Outro]
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back
(I know the girls wanna dance away their circumstance)
(I know the boys wanna grow, their dicks and fix and file things)
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Stand back when the spirit comes
Those lyrics are not correct
@@boxorabag1952 seem fine to me
boxorabag whats correct? When say dicks and fix file things , what Is that say? Sorry, speak spanish thanks
The song sucks period.
It's a great song...
I don't understand why people are complaining that this doesn't sound like Pearl Jam or that it sounds like The Talking Heads. The only part that sounds like the Talking Heads is the prechorus. I'm sorry but you can't get more PEARL JAM than the guitar jam after the bridge. Plus the depth of lyrics and Ed's vocals. "EXPECTING PERFECTION.....LEAVES A LOT TO IGNORE" is singing straight to you unfaithful Jammers.
You'll be into it soon enough!
I'm loving this song a lot . I needed this today.
"Expecting perfection is a lot to ignore".
*leaves a lot to ignore
that second half is SICK just absolutely SICK -ISH
when the real instruments slowly come in.... daaaaaaamn
Like a different song in a good way. Like Pendulum in that it’s like a new song halfway. Stand back when the spirit comes! 😊
In "Dance Of The Clairvoyants," Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder accepts the certainty of uncertainty in a world that seems more chaotic than ever:
Expecting perfection
Leaves a lot to ignore
When the past is the present
And the future's no more
Pearl Jam has never been a band to let injustice go by the boards (these are the guys who took on TicketMaster), but there's only so much you can do, especially when your opponents have all the political power. In surrendering to imperfection, we could become stronger and gain more clarity.
A clairvoyant is someone who can see into the future, which is impossible without superpowers. Eddie Vedder could be making the point that none of us know for sure what's going to happen, so we have to accept a certain level of uncertainty.
Pearl Jam left no trace of their groundbreaking grunge sound on this one. The song has an electronic dance feel with atmospheric synths and heavily processed drums. Eddie Vedder adopts a post-punk snarl that increases in intensity as each verse progresses. He sound a lot like David Byrne of Talking Heads on the track.
This is Pearl Jam's first new song since their 2018 standalone single "Can't Deny Me." It's the lead single from their album Gigaton, their first since Lightning Bolt in 2013.
Guitarist Stone Gossard takes on Jeff Ament's bass duties during the track while Ament contributes guitar and twinkling synths. Ament said the song "was a perfect storm of experimentation and real collaboration, mixing up the instrumentation and building a great song, and Ed writing some of my favorite words yet, around Matt's killer drum pattern."
The band wrote the song as a group collaboration and co-produced the track with Josh Evans, a sound technician from Seattle. Evans was a guitar technician on the Lightning Bolt recordings and produced the 2018 track "Can't Deny Me."
The first video, named "Mach I," was made by Evolve Studios with Joel Edwards producing. Typical of Pearl Jam, the band doesn't appear in it. Footage of nature and space is used instead, giving us a sense of our place in the universe.
The band later released a second video dubbed "Mach II," which showed footage of the band performing the song, spliced with imagery from the first clip.
A third and final video titled "Mach III," combines footage from the first two, while including more shots of the group performing underneath a lightning-filled sky. Pearl Jam noted on Twitter that "Mach III" represents their first official video in 7 years."
A Brazilian group called Black Circle posted an impressive cover of this song just days after it was released.
Or he’s just burning down the house
Blipping love it. But then I love when they did things like "you are" and this is so different to everything else that the closest thing I can see is cameron's 2002 song. And is not really that close. Either way sounds new and inspired. Eddie sounds compelling and the melody is beautiful.
Bring the album on already. Cant wait!
Nice to see someone who enjoys "you are" too, which is one of the best "strange" songs they composed so far, and now it seems we're gonna get a full album of new sounds and experiments, exciting!
Pearl Jam isn't a pop band. They don't need to do a music to play at the radios. They don't care for this. They have attitude! Criticism! And that's why I f*ckin' love Pearl Jam!
I'm In Love With Clairvoyants Cause They're Out Of This World....
