Our second day sees us ease into French Life which so far has been a very relaxing way of .life and today does not disappoint with a trip to the V2 Rocket Blockhaus facility. The site surprises us and we are suddenly faced with the dark force of the Nazi's developing at the time leading edge weapons of destruction. As ever we are still learning van life ion Europe and making mistakes along the way

What an extraordinary building and what a sobering history. Take care.
Yes it took us back a little when we saw it - hope all is well
Hi Folks I have been to France a number of times and what i found about the French people is if you try to say some few words in their language the will react by speaking to you in English, I also found them very helpful. I have sailed from Rosslare to Cherbourg and from Cherbourg I was able to visit all the Normandy beaches from Utah down as far as Gold beach including Pegasus bridge. The one thing i found about France is to stay away from the A roads if you can because the tolls on the A roads are terribly expensive. The D roads are every bit as good as the A roads and they are toll free. Do not if you can buy fuel on the motorways, it is more reasonable to buy it in the Supermarkets. There are a number of books available for the Aires in France that will give you the coordinates for where the Aires are located. There are also the A C S I books which give you the coordinates for thousands of campsites all over Europe. Happy Camping and a Happy New year
Thank you for some great tips - we are very much for back road driving as we often find the best of places
Happy new year and thanks for watching
Bakery food looked yummy. Pancakes looked good too. Quite healthy with the oats and fruit. Potato man would have freaked me out🤣. Mill was interesting with great views. Museum was really interesting. Love the way the artefacts are all in nature. Very poignant. That bunker was really sinister. That would have changed the war. Fascinating place. Pleased the camera is working well in the main. Hope you can sort your WiFi out. Nice 👍😊
Pancakes well worth a go - we had them this morning
Yep the knock on the door was an interesting interaction
Bunker was really good and something I didn’t realise
Think I may have cracked Wi-Fi with a local router so we will see
Supermarkets in France tend to fall into 3 brackets price wise. Leclerc (expensive), Carrefour (mid price), Intermarché (lower price) for example. Oh how I miss Leclerc! A real treat
Thanks for watching … I think we did all three in the end during the whole trip - but all pretty good we felt
"Pour les yeux" for the eyes. ( just looking)
Thanks for watching
Great video, but be warned of the French drone laws!
Yeah we had to register and take a test to fly the drone and go through the various eu laws so always conscious of country rules plus I use drone assist to advise no go zones etc
Fascinating stuff 👍
Thanks for watching - we always seem to find something we didn’t know
Great video again, very interesting re WW2. The "pastries" looked fantastic which brought back some wonderful memories of trips to France. all the best and thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching - pastries and baguette - you don’t need anything else lol
Thanks for watching the history is so well done in France
Thanks I didn't know that museum existed 😊
Great museum and it took us by surprise as you suddenly realised how close these things were to becoming reality
Thanks for watching
I can still sense the nerves on the driving front 🤭 That must’ve been a really surreal place to visit. Pastries looked delicious, you’re tempting me with these bakery visits! Em 🎄
Yes it was with us for the whole trip but we slowly eased in - a few more scares yet though to come lol 😂
We really enjoyed this video. The history is right up our street as you know. You are so right about UK museums being so expensive. It stops us going in to so many that we would like to visit. Merry Christmas to you both
Merry Crimbo guys - thanks for watching - the history in northern France is fascinating and do well done - we have a lot to learn
Thanks for watching
Loved the history and the cookery lesson. Pancakes looked good 🙂👍
Pancakes are dead easy and a nice filler in the morning we have them as a treat most weekends
Thanks for watching
Great video, found the v2, v1 museum fascinating and makes you think
It certainly made us realise what was going on and how close to launching 35 rockets a day on London - thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it
I cannot believe that the driver does the cooking
When we travel my wife does to share the “load”
Lol we share the cooking 🧑🍳 in that Jane does most of the prep and all the washing up - I tend to do the stove part as a bit more organised around the two burners so it works well as a team effort
We've lived in France for 35 years and when we rarely go to the UK we're exactly like you on the uk roads 😂. The first time we left the ferry in Dover all the signs said keep left so we thought that meant just keep going left all the time and ended up in the middle of the industrial port with 50 other cars following us 😂😂😂
😂 that made us laugh as we take things literally - thanks for watching but above all commenting
Thank you 👍you actually stopped yards from where the little red camper stopped 😂I love 3 words thank you it’s really helpful 👍 I took an electric induction hob To a uk camp site it’s got adjustable wattage, £43 ish .The Wife made her porridge every day on 300/400 watts don’t know how that would jive with your power bank , but worth a thought thank you both well done good luck 👍👍👍🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢
Thanks for watching and there is always a smile when I cook a meal off free power we have harvested - sounds a nice little unit that - send me a description as I think Amazon stop links being posted
Thank you for watching
AMZCHEF Single Induction Hob, Portable Induction Hob, 10 Temperature Settings and Power levels from 300W to 2000W, Black Frosted Glass Panel,Sensitive Press Control, 3-hour Time . £49.99 but a 15% voucher with prime so about £42
@welshieonwheels thanks
I could also have told you to look in the pots section of the supermarket, as here they sell cheap lids which can fit multi-size pots/ pans. Never seen them in UK
I will do thank you 😊 jane
Spray paint the "bottle" black looks less "shameful"
Good idea although we swap bottle frequently but someone said a black old pair of tights 😂
Living here, usually the best (cheapest) supermarket is Leclerc, but depends where you are obviously.
Thank you for that Pam. I will definitely keep my eye out next time. I got a bit better as the trip went on but at least I can google the locations of Leclercs when we head back 😊. Jane
We have been to the blockhouse and like you we were in awe of the size it’s a very interesting site to visit. France is very good for camping and it seems they go out of their way with facilities. Enjoy your time touring . We do we keep going back. Happy travels.
Thanks for the watch and above all commenting…. I must say we really started to appreciate France
Its hard to show its size isnt it. I understand why you keep going back. Absolute dream isnt it. We loved it. Jane
So enjoying your trip. Never thought to make pancakes using oats. Will be going back to get recipe The V2 block house bunker was so interesting. I love learning about this type of history. Well done. Cheers Lynne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺🐨💙💜. Wishing the holiday seasons brings you love & laughter. Merry Christmas. Looking forward to seeing how you celebrate Christmas in Harry.
Glad your enjoying the series - yep the key is 3/4 cups oats 1/4 plain flour teaspoon baking soda teaspoon sugar 1 egg sultanas and milk to get a smooth mixture
Then fruit of choose and for luxury pomegranates and pine nuts sprinkled on top with honey drizzled and Greek yoghurt on the side
@@getawaygeese thanks for recipe. Nice Christmas breakfast. Have all ingredients will use raspberries. ❤️👍🏻
@@lynnebunning7273yep we have blueberries and plums plus banana
Hi Stew, try a copper ring with magnets on your arthritic finger. Worked miracles on my husband’s finger which had pain and poor circulation. I got his from DEMI+CO, not expensive. Worth a try. Hope you are feeling better Jane ❤️
Ah thanks I seem to be having a few issues like that so like you say nothing to lose - thank you for watching and above all commenting
Just ordered one so will be interesting to see
Hi Jane and Stew, that was a very interesting video, poignant describes it to a tee. Roll on the next installment.
Glad you enjoyed it - I have to say the stark reality of the rocket launch site surprised us at how production like it was and how close it was to start launching 30 or so a day
Thanks for watching
Didn't know about that V2 complex, thanks for sharing guys👍
Our pleasure! We were taken aback how industrial it was and how close to reigning 30 odd a day on the UK tgg he bald for watching
Great vlog ❤. We try not to spend to much time in France or we just get fat😂😂😂
We came back overweight as we tootled around the northern part a lot but a great intro - hope you are both well and Merry Xmas
@getawaygeese
Very well thanks, We are 4 weeks into our 3 months in Lanzarote, planning our next three months trip to eastern Europe in Nemo.
@MrTyger11 beautiful enjoy the sun
Thank you for the historical information. It is scary to think what might have happened if it had become operational. Take care Gill
Thanks for watching - yes whilst I knew if V2 rockets I had no concept of how industrialised the Nazis had become - another month or so then it may have been a different story
@@getawaygeese Hope you have a happy Christmas.
@Wheres_wanda_wandering merry Christmas to you to
Thanks for sharing your second video in France, all the history lesson on WW2 in the area was really awesome.. You're managing to get what you need at shops, very well congratulations !!! the drone shots are also very interesting as we all get to seeing much more than on ground level...
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoy - trying to get the balance of history and vanlife - the v2 site really took us by surprise as it was so big and close to being a production line of terror
Great watch guys, I found the the museum and the history so interesting.
I know it sounds sad but I do enjoy looking around a good continental supermarket.
A very happy Christmas 🎄 to you both, looking forward to your adventures in 2024. 👍🐸
Thanks for watching but above all commenting it means a lot - the history blew us away a bit as we had no idea if that type of rocket site all pointing at the uk. Jane will agree entirely about the supermarkets - it’s a destination in itself
Merry Xmas
Hi. Not just me then 😂 I was going in for one item and coming out 45 minutes later ! I stood in awe in one supermarket at the whole shelf section of cotton wool for goodness sake ! And I didnt even need any. Their hypermarkets are like Tesco Extra on steroids 😂 jane
Great vlog guys. We went to the Blockhaus early in the year and we completely agree with you how it makes you feel. Glad you're enjoying the travels!
Thanks for watching - if completely surprised us and didn’t realise how close they were to producing them on such a factory scale
Like the sound of lots of bakeries! CAKE!
Thanks for sharing!
Ju
😁
Thanks for watching - every town village seemed to have a few bakeries and patisseries and the price was super cheap - thanks for watching
I was waiting for Stew to do his David Attenborough impersonation at the nature reserve😂
Lol 😂 never thought of that - I don’t think my Dudley accent would resonate so well - thanks for watching
