Wednesday is my spirit animal!
You have to check out the sequel, Adam's family values. I think it's just a tad bit funnier than the original.
@@js0988 Mary cherry is my spirit animal ❤️✌️
Mary, if I lived in Australia I would totally dress up as Gomez Addams so that you could cosplay as Morticia. Or we could even dress as Pugsly and Wednesday. Sadly I live all the way over in Canada. I love it here, but it also means I'm not likely to meet any of my favourite RUclipsrs.
But if you ever decide to vacation in Vancouver BC around Halloween or when Fan Expo Vancouver happens (which lately has been in February), then you've got yourself a Gomez/Pugsly.
You'll probably wanna see "Casper" next, if you haven't already...
Morticia and Gomez lowkey have the healthiest spousal relationship in fiction
So what your saying is.... We need to marry witches?
To late. That's what I'm taking from this!
@@stevesmith9617 that option only really works if you are a twisted lunatic yourself.
But if you check that box its a perfect fit.
Either them or Herman and Lily Munster.
I would die for her. I would kill for her. Either way, what bliss!
*highkey
The sequel is even better, for the Wednesday stuff alone!
Yes.
CashPrizes And Baby Pubert !
And Debbie!
@@xtinkerbellax3 Hell yes !
As a 10yo Wednesday basically set the tone for all my future GFs 🤣🤣 I’m basically Krumholtz’ character from Addams Family Values 😂😂
Christina Ricci is such a fantastic Wednesday Addams and she didn't even have to try she just did it.
Ricci is also great in Mermaids. :)
She's even more fantastic in Addams Family Values, the sequel.
@@stefanlaskowski6660 yes she is.
Total natural
Christina can still do the character to this day!
The Addams’ are the most wholesome family in entertainment history! They accept, love and support each other exactly as they are!! Absolute goals!!!
🙌🙌🙌
To heck with a Romeo and Juliet romance, give me a Gomez and Morticia romance any day!!!
The Munsters are as well
A few years ago I remember some psychiatrist was on a morning radio show and listed top five best examples of a healthy family on tv and film. The Addams Family was number 1 with the Munsters at a close number 2.
And of all the 50s/60s TV couples, Morticia and Gomez were the only ones you could imagine actually having children.
They're the most loving family. They just revel in their differences. The kicker about the villains of both movies is that if they weren't out to directly screw the family, the Addams would have accepted them. Gomez even says as much to Tully.
Sic Gorgiamus Allos Subjectatos Nunc - We Gladly Feast On Those Who Would Subdue Us.
The Addams family are meant to be the opposite of the standard sitcom family - so the mom and dad are madly in love and affectionate. They support their children in whatever they do. They're so wholesome.
Mary at the beginning: “They’re so creepy!”
Mary near the end: “They’re a loving family!”
Me: Mary gets it now.
Yeah, they’re different, but they are a family and really do love each other
They're the most stable family in existance
They're creepy and they're cooky, mysterious and spooky, they're all together ooky.
You have to watch the sequel, Addams Family Values. It’s a great sequel.
I love it
“In-laws!”
Gomez and Morticia make the perfect couple, two perfectly matched souls whose passion for each other and life never wavers.
Morticia is hands down the most supportive and loving mother and wife in TV history!
Raul Julia (Gomez) was legitimately one of the most wonderfully fun movie presences of my childhood. The dude even made Street Fighter, enjoyable every second he was in it. Whole cast was fun but he and Christopher Lloyd (Uncle Fester) were just... chef kiss.
I couldn’t agree with you more
@@justafro4381 He read a book on Reading Rainbow. Anjelica Huston was in the movie, The Wirches.
RIP Raul Julia. Brilliant actor much missed.
@@countgeekula9143 Check out "The Rookie" he is such a great villain opposite Clint Eastwood.
The day Bison Came to your village was the most important day of your life, for me it as Tuesday.
The Addams Family are the nicest, most well-adjusted people in the world. They are completely devoted to one another, they're charitable, eager to please and will not only invite anyone into their home but will go out of their way to make a guest feel welcome.
They're certainly far kinder and more moral than any of the "normal" community members.
Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams is a whole mood!
Her performance in Addams Family Values, only two years later, is next level!
This movie is based on the 60s television show, which was itself based on a series of New Yorker cartoons going back to the late 1930s, so the Addams Family has been around for a long time.
yes, i came to comment this fact abt the New Yorker in the 30s comic panels
My dad had all the books collecting those comics, so I read all of them before I was twelve.
And of course that iconic theme song is from the TV series.
@@trolleyfan yea, the 60s camped it up a lil bit, the original NY comics were a lot darker
thanks to great and beloved Charles Addams who created this masterpiece for us to enjoy!🖤
You should check out Addams Family Values as it’s a really good sequel. Even more so when you consider that Raul Julia (Gomez) was battling cancer during the filming
The sequel (that was rejected at the time by both critics and audiences) is superior to the first movie in every way, and is legitimately a 90s comedy masterpiece.
Both are amazing. I don't think I could choose. This was the perfect casting! Was so sad when Julia passed.
Not really. I still can't say I get why it'd be better, definitely not "superior in every way".
agreed! Watch Addams Family Values too!
I think values is better there's a lot more with Wednesday and pugsley and fester
Need the sequel!!
Wednesday Addams has always been my spirit animal. And she's even better in the sequel.
the short RUclips web series, "Adult Wednesday Adams".
In 90 minuters from "what the hell?!" to "i luv them!". Addams magic.
Christina Ricci was the PERFECT Wednesday Addams.
Amazing how good she was at only about 10 years old.
the short RUclips web series, "Adult Wednesday Adams".
@@doorran I coincidentally binge watched all of those last month. Pretty funny. Shame she had to quit doing them.
She was a year younger than me when this movie came out. To have that talent level at that age... "impressed" is an understatement.
"I don't know how creepy they are?"
Oh, they're creepy and they're cooky, mysterious and spooky. They're all together ookey.
Their house is a museum when people come to see 'em. They really are a scree-um!
Neat
Sweet
Petite
The second movie "Adams Family Values" is even funnier.
One of the rare times that a sequel to a good movie is actually better.
The thing about the Addams Family is that in between the creepiness, they are a loving good family. The husband and wife love each other and are romantic (though in a creepy way) and they are proud of and support their children (for the creepy things they do). If they were JUST creepy, they wouldn't be so awesome, but the underlying love and support of a family makes it perfect.
Apparently Christopher Lloyd was worried about being recast early in the production. So, on day pre-production, when he came on set and saw a guy dressed as Fester for stand-in/lighting work, he freaked and ran off to shave his head so they would know he was serious about the role.
I heard the story differently, him showing up bald to the auditions, telling them he HAD to get the role (knowing it was a rare opportunity)
His experience with Back To The Future 1 & 2 likely made him a little paranoid after the recasting of Stoltz and Glover too!
I don’t know how they do it, but everything Morticia and Wednesday say is just GOLD.
At my local comic-con this year, I had Christina Ricci sign my copy of this movie!
Christina Ricci is a goddess!!!
The casting for this move is pure perfection. My favourite is actually Raul Julia (Gomez). RIP, he died too young.
Gomez and Morticia are by far the most in love, healthy couple I'e ever seen
Thing is the ultimate friend. He’s always ready to lend a hand.
HA!
literally
Wednesday Addams is named for the old saying “Wednesday’s child is full of woe.” It was a superstitious belief that people born on a Wednesday were fated to be unfortunate in life.
Actually, the phrase "Wednesday's Child is full of woe" was also meant to symbolize that the child born on a Wednesday would be empathetic & kind to others ("full of woe" as in feeling the sadness and pain of others & wanting to help them).
Charles Addams, however, clearly preferred the superstitious belief over the optimistic one!
The 60's show was based on an older newspaper comic strip. Good pick too, won't give you nightmares, but fits the month!
used to watch it every day after school back in the 70's
It wasn't a newspaper comic strip, it was a series of standalone cartoons that appeared mostly in the New Yorker magazine.
"So his name's Gomez but he speaks French?"
Ever hear of the Pyrenees region?
Also, wanting to cosplay as Morticia Adams is basically a right of passage!
Gomez and Morticia are true couple goals
I love how Mary kept saying what the hell 😂😂😂😂😂😂
morticia is a great mother shes nurturing her children’s interest lol
To be clear, the movie is *officially* based on the original Charles Addams cartoons, and even includes some of his best gags ("Are you miserable darling?" "Yes, completely!") but draws heavily on the TV series, as the TV series gave them their names and fleshed out their setting.
Oh, and it's funny that you thought of Princess Bride when you saw Grandmama. Carol Kane, the old witch in Princess Bride, took over the part of Grandmama in the sequel (I think the other lady passed away).
Raul Julia was a genius choice for Gomez. My heart broke when he passed away.
I love how supportive the Addams are. They just want to please each other in every way
I don't know how many times I saw this when I was young. It's still iconic
Ooh this is a good'un! Christina Ricci was born to play Wednesday Addams, perfect casting if ever there was one. The whole cast is so good in their roles. :)
Ricci was most perfect cast in cinematic history.
This movie came out the month before I turned 11 years old. I asked to see it in theatres for my birthday and I developed such a crush on Wednesday Addams because of Ricci's portrayal. Ricci's Wednesday is still one of my favorite characters to this day.
"The Addams Family: Family Values", which is the sequel, is just just as good, and also has some really iconic scenes; and of course Christina Ricci rocks it again.
The 60s TV show was, in turn, based on a 1930s comic strip. Actually, this movie bears a greater resemblance to the comic strip.
Try to find any of the books of collections of the original The Addams Family cartoons by Charles Addams through your local library. They're fantastic.
@@brahamwardrober6774 I did just that a number of years ago. A lot of people made a stink when Luis Guzman was cast as Gomez in the new tv show. I assume they are not familiar with the original comics.
@@JoeMama410 I agree wholeheartedly.
@@JoeMama410 I think because so many people now just really see Raul Julia as the most iconic Gomez, and they have a hard time picturing anybody else for the role.
THE MOTHER / DAUGHTER COMBO IS INSANITY. PURE DARK DELIGHTFUL INSANITY. IM ALL ABOUT IT.
I would love to be neighbors with the Adams family, my current neighbor is a Karen with a super Saiyan multiplier
Addams Family Values next!!! Such a great sequel and adds in the legend Joan Cusack to this already amazing cast. Keep doing your thing girl!
The Addams Family was originally from cartoons by Charles Addams the characters weren’t named but when they decided to make a tv series they gave them all names and named the family after Addams
For the television series, Thing existed in some... realm, within a box. In the movies, he was out and about.
There were some perfect casting choices for films, and the late great Raul Julia was born to play Gomez Addams.
In the _New Yorker_ cartoons, Thing was a whole guy who lurked around the mansion as an Easter egg for readers
I love how horrified the Addamses are by suburban culture - and the sequel has even more of that!
"Innapropriate!"
What a perfect way to set the tone right from the start. Mary is in the exact headspace they want us to be in when watching this. This is going to be good.
This movie is a classic and its really great. The sequel is awesome too... it doesnt happen often but in this case, the sequel is as good as the first one.
Wednesday is so awesome. haha
Gomez and Morticia relationship : couple goals.
Me watching your Ghost Busters review the other day ...
"Oh man, I wonder if she's ever seen the Addams Family movies, I bet she'd get a kick out of those."
I was so stoked when this popped up today.
the adams family is the entire reason for my love of the goth aesthetic :D
Anjelica Houston's portrayel of Morticia was superb.
The movies are based on the television show.
They're creepy and they're kooky
Mysterious and spooky
They're all together ooky
The Adams family
Their house is a museum
When people come to see 'em
They really are a screaming
The Adams family.
So put a witch's shawl on
A broomstick you can crawl on
We're gonna play a call on
The Adams family
I really enjoyed how you did a complete 180 from being unsure about the Addams Family to loving them!! This was great
Christina Ricci STILL hasn't escaped this role. Everyone who casts her, is still looking for Wednesday Addams
The director of this film Barry Sonnenfeld also worked on "Men in Black". Their quirky sense of humor and style really shows in that film as well.
A family that accepts itself as itself, So Loving, So outstanding... Amazing, you will just have to see the Sequel, "Adams Family Values"
The TV show was great. John Astin and Carolyn Jones were one of the most affectionate couples on TV.
Addams Family Values and the recent animated movie are also well worth a watch.
If you liked this one you need to watch the sequel! it's even better!
Fuck yeah! I've loved the Addams Family since I was a kid (also had a crush on Wednesday lol) Don't forget to watch the 2nd movie! 🖤🕸🪦
The Addams Family Values is a great Sequel...imagine the kids in the summercamp in a thanks giving play...
Wednesday Smiling......creepiest......moment
This was one of my childhood. Creepy? Yes and I love it.
God this movie and it’s sequel are SO campy and just own it so fully I love it
Yeah, not every movie has to be dark, or gritty, or explain every little tiny thing. Some movies just have fun.
Check out Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton. It, too, features a very good performance by Christina Ricci. It's one of my all-time favorites for three reasons: the visuals, the action, and the twist on the original story. It is a police procedural with elements of suspense and horror. Very well-balanced film. Christina Ricci is the fourth reason why it is so good.
Other Christopher Lloyd movies are Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, and a wonderful comedy that nobody ever seems to mention called The Dream Team. By the way, one of the more famous original Charles Addams cartoons, and one that matches the spirit of this movie perfectly, is the one in which Gomez (as he is called on TV and in the movies -- the characters didn't have names in the original New Yorker cartoons) is waiting in the maternity ward, and a nurse comes and tells him: "Congratulations -- it's a baby.."
The TV series has an extra bonus; when Morticia's mother comes to visit, she's played by the woman who played the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz in 1939!
The crazy part is: The "mother" would fit in with the Addams, if only she was honest...
Joke: What does Thing have for lunch?
Answer: Hamburger Helper.
Yes, this was based on a 60s tv show, which in turn was based on a series of cartoons, created by Charles Addams, which appeared in the New Yorker as far back as the 30s. You should definitely check those out.
I love Christina Ricci in this, and since the two Addams Family movies she's had an stounding career. I highly recommend any of her other films or the pair of TV shows she's had recently. Can't go wrong. There was even a werewolf movie that she did called Cursed if you wanted to do that as well for October.
Sleepy Hallow!
Charles Samuel Addams was an American artist and cartoonist (1912-1988). The illustrations started publication in The New Yorker Magazine. Before the 1960's TV show.
I enjoyed this reaction video far too much. I've been an Addams fan all my life and this is my very favourite version of the characters. Watching someone discover them for the first time and enjoy them warms my heart to no end.
Fun fact: the boiling oil that they pour over the carolers, the burn mark can still be seen on the front porch!
I love this film and values so much nostalgia can't believe christina ricci is 41 now she still has a youthful face 😍 she was and still is the perfect Wednesday
The 1964 television show was based on Charles Addams' cartoon from 1938 that appeared in The New Yorker magazine. The children's nursery rhyme, "Monday's Child Is Fair Of Face", was the inspiration for Charles to name the dark character of Wednesday Addams. "Wednesday's child is full of Woe." Cristina Ricci was phenomenal as Wednesday. She is even better in the sequel. ✌❤🌹
Both movies were a lot of fun. Always had a crush on Christina Ricci. Wish they would have made more movies with this group of actors
Alas, RIP Raul.
When thing slams into the door when fester arrives is imo the funniest moment
The 1960’s B&W series was also an absolute gem.
There was another monsters comedy on American television at the same time as the Adams Family. It was called The Munsters. Frankenstein is married to Vampiress. They have a werewolf son, a vampire grandfather, and a normal looking niece who they consider handicapped because of her "horrifying appearance." Lol. They live in a creepy, haunted house in the suburbs.
Rob Zombie's "Dragula" is a song about Grandpa Munster's coffin shaped hot rod.
So, about Thing in particular, he's an interesting case study in how things change in adaptation.
In the original magazine cartoons, there was a weird guy who lurked in the Family's mansion, peeking out at them. He was called "the Thing"; They also had a lot of appliances with disembodied hands and arms operating them. The tv show combined them into Thing as we know and love him today.
This film was such a pleasant surprise. Since you enjoyed it, I recommend the sequel too.
I have watched a lot of reactions for this movie. And it was so cool finding someone who Didn't know the addams family. And then watch them experience it.
It's funny you asked if it was the lady from Princess Bride as Grandmama. It's not, but Carol Kane does play her in the sequel.
I love how Mary described the Adam's Family as "Creepy" and "Spooky," as those are two of the adjectives in the lyrics for the Adam's Family theme. Now I can't wait for Mary to watch the TV show, although these movies are a fantastic revitalization of this story.
The sequel is so fun too!
Wednesday Adams is my favourite!
Christina Ricci rocks every role she's in.
Every single one of the characters is great. But Morticia... she's on another level. That thing they did with her eyes and the light is amazing.
Cheers!
Thank you, Mary, for "written greatly." It's always a treat to hear language used properly. Best. Leo.
Great! You HAVE to watch *Adams Family Values* - it is one of the rare sequels that is definitely better than the first!
"Penelope" with Christina Ricci as the titular character is another movie with a very fantasy/Victorian gothic aesthetic to it.
Gomez and Morticia are the definition "couple goals"
Everyone else will be saying it, I might as well say it: since you liked this film so much, you need to see the sequel, 'Addams Family Values'. It's pretty much the exact same people behind it, both cast and crew (I think only one actor was different) and the tone is identical... but the comedy is even BETTER.
Raul Julia is simply having too much fun lol
From what I understand, Christopher Lloyd wanted this/the role of Fester SO much that he actually shaved his head just for the audition.
"They're so horny all the time." Healthy marriage lol
Also interesting, Anjelica Huston was nominated for a Golden Globe for playing Morticia Addams in this film.
"I know they're spooky"
In fact, they're creepy and they're spooky, mysterious and cooky, they're all together "ooky". The Addams Family.
20:20 The gothic farewell party/ball is my favorite kind of party I want right here. ^^
The Addams family Family Values is Iconic!
