- SD Card for a Dash Cam?
So you bought a dash cam and are looking to upgrade your SD card. What is an SD card you may ask? SD stands for secure digital and is a digital storage card. The microSD card launched in 2005 and was designed for use in cellular phones. I remember using one of these in my Blackberry back in the day. Originally offered in 2GB storage. However, in 2019 they are now available in 1 TB capacity. Boy we have come a long way.
Dash cameras use a microSD card. So make sure when shopping around you get the correct size. If you buy a regular SD card, I hope you have a digital camera to put it in.

Thanks thats an older video to me now.
I most definitely learned a lot from this video. I am doing my research on dash cams, and this rabbit hole is quite deep, but also very interesting.
Samsung Max Endurance is also a great sd card
@@SafeDriveSolutions That is what I have found from a few other reviewers. I am all about "Buy once, Cry once." I don't want to be in a situation where I buy a cheap card, can't see the video and am in a tight spot. Or over time, if I buy a few cheaper cards and they fail, I'd end up spending more money in the long run.
@@jmackinjersey1 SD cards do fail over time. It is normal. I have been using sandisk extreme pro and been great for quite a while. Everyone has a preference. You will also find some dash cameras wont like the sd card you bought even with all your research.
always check your dash cam manufacture to see , mine takes the older type, mini sd..
I am curious to find out if you can use a micro-SD card that exceeds the storage capacity of the dashcam camera's software/hardware? For example, the dashcam's manual recommends 128MB storage card. Can a 256MB card be used? will the camera use 256MB before it overwrites new data onto the card?
strongly recommend against this. We have heard of people completely missing sections of video because the dash camera will not support that amount of storage.
Your sd reader is likely capped at 90MB/s. A few of those cards are over 90.
I know most these cards were rated higher but they definitely did not score that way.
@@SafeDriveSolutions -Despite the rating, other reviewers are getting much higher. They claim a faster reader is required for higher speeds. With all your cards not exceeding 90, it's likely the reader.
What I want to know is. I have a nextbase 402G dash cam, and in the manual, it lists up to 32gb for an SD card. Am I able to use a bigger capacity card?
No idea. Not a Nextbase expert
Hi! I already bought viofo 229 pro which sd card is ok 128 or 256 gb thank you
We use the Viofo SD cards, it will support all the way up to a 512gb
I have a dash cam and sometimes when i put it in it pings out in the car and i have to find it . The cam is stuck on the window it hard to put the card in and i have no fingernails so i have to be very careful as it again pings out and i have to look for it in the car. is there a easy way to put it in the slot in the Dash cam. Thank you
maybe there should be an easier way. I know sometimes people have that happen when they also take it out
What the best SD card for a
VAVA 2k dash cam??
Not familiar with Vava.
which brand with the V60 is the best ?
Not sure we are not a SD card supplier.
So I just bought A229 Pro, 2CH. Any new recommendations for SD cards?
Viofo or Sandisk max endurance cards
@@SafeDriveSolutionsthank you
What’s the best sd card for vantrue n4
I am not 100% sure
But I typically Sandisk max endurance works well with most dash cams
Sir the SD card why the viofo use there sd card is use for survirance camera and dashcam do is specific on it by high indurance microsd card. But so much expensive $130 / 512gb, Here in Taiwan just only $35/512gb high indurance card
where do i sign up to get these SD cards? do you have a name brand
Is Prograde micro SD card a good brand ?
Not sure but some customers did buy it. It worked well for them. I used it for specs on the card.
Do you think you can tested ?
We use Viofo SD cards and we use Sandisk Extreme Pro. We are phasing out sandisk extreme pro cards now as the Viofo tests the highest from our testing
But can you just test the Prograde so we know where it stands?
@@deanfox3920 We do not sell Pro Grade. We are not going to buy and test one when the Viofo SD cards work great for us.
What storage capacity can i go up to??
depends on your dash camera. the biggest some of our dash cams support is 512gb
@@SafeDriveSolutions Thank you
