Sometimes I emotionally "quit" or take a break due to health struggles, but I eventually kiss and make up with my true identity as a creative. So...how many times have I "quit"? Innumerable. But over time the break inbetween quitting and getting back on the horse has become much shorter.
I've flaked out on a few writing projects that I lost motivation for, but I usually end up taking on another project soon enough. The biggest break I've taken is when I slowed down on writing to concentrate on making a videogame, but now that's it's finished, I want to get back to making stories.
Every time I quit, I always end up coming back. I’m never able to quit permanently. I think that’s one of the signs you’re a real artist. As frustrated as you are, you can’t walk away for good.
Starting writing scripts at 16. 25 years later I’m still writing. First scripts were terrible but kept learning. Almost sold 2 but didn’t happen. Still learning-still writing. Never give up if the story needs to be told.
He is right. But I also think one reason also is that many quit because they run out of money, because art takes time and support to create. Without regular, steady money, they pursue other avenues to make money and drop the ball.
I am not quitting. I know my stories are incredible. I know they are epic. They are about me. I have something to say and I’m going to tell the world through my work.

I believe if you are a TRUE artists, you cannot quit. You whether the struggle. You often hate the struggle but you are an artist so🤷🏽♀️you endure. Even Martin Scorcese struggled to get his project complete. Gotta hang in there.
Thank you for this interview, it's so true what Mr. Sloan is sharing. All people are unique but no one is "special" or "chosen" so why would anyone believe they are the Center of the Universe? Rejection, disappointment, tenacity, patience and a good look, before we leap are character building tools. Our cumulative experiences make us better able to communicate as artists. If we stumble along the way - we may fall but the real test is whether we wan't to get up:). LOL

There's no failure when you keep going and get up when you're knocked down. Sometimes we need to pause for "a moment" to regroup and be moved by the universe to a different or better angle...
As a musician I know so many bands that quit because they didn't get rich. They didn't get signed. They didn't get an audience. They didn't go anywhere. For them, quitting made sense because it's a waste of their time not reaching their monetary goals. BUT, I have not reached those goals (Well, I've been signed/published in magazines/newspapers/etc), but I'm not rich and I will never quit. Why? Because my goal isn't to make music solely for money. I make it so it exists. I make it so you can listen to it. People listening or sharing my music makes me happy. That is my currency. As I transition to filmmaking. I'm treating it the same way for now. I don't care if I don't win an Oscar or never get mainstream distribution/marketing. I'm happy people are watching/enjoying my work. I am what Martin Scorcese says is a risk in Hollywood because I'm artist, not an entertainer.
I forgot where I heard it but most people who are terrible at writing or directing still have jobs cuz they kept going when the quality people felt they weren’t being recognized and couldn’t handle the rejection. So sad, so true.
NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION. Somatic therapy pls do it. It's not about pushing yourself, it's about letting go. Otherwise, we get stuck in limbo land, not able to quit and can't keep going either.
The Universe gives us what we focus on, think about and put energy into - including those things we don't want. The more you focus on and put energy into what you don't want, that's what will manifest for you without hesitation. Maybe focus on and appreciate that you haven't quit and you've been made stronger.

I don't quit. I keep creating, because i enjoy art more than life itself. You covered ego can you cover despair
