    Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

I really relate to this guy. I’ve been a filmmaker for almost 10 years and I can say that the only fun part is coming up with a cool idea. The hard part is actually making it bc you have to pretty much depend on other people to make your project look like how you visioned in your mind, which is hard to do because in reality some people just don’t care. You just have to find your tribe or pick up a camera yourself. Doesn’t hurt to try

I came to realize this recently as well. Strive to produce the work that you'll look back on in 30 years and be proud of. Dont wait.
If you're aspiring to be a filmmaker, don't wait until you finally get that big budget contract to make your best work, instead make something absolutely stunning and meaningful within the confines of a 1-5 minute short film. If you gave Steven Spielberg, Quinten Tarantino, Wes Anderson, etc a phone with a camera and tasked them to shoot a short film with it with zero budget, I promise you that they'd make something amazing.
Goes for any artistic medium. Know your tools and make the best work you can with what you have. The passion inside of you is worth infinitely more than the hypothetical budget or experience you feel like you're waiting for. If you really care, don't put it off.

That's what I finally realized. I have outlines for novels that are extensive and require research. One is a Sci-fi series in another galaxy. Another about a band in the music business rising to stardom. I'm still working a time consuming full time job and it felt overwhelming not having the freedom to put my all into getting started. Recently I found myself outlining a young/new adult series set in present day in the US dealing with a group of friends and relatives. I realised it's something I can write with much less research about their day to day lives. So I've decided to write and self-publish that series first before the others in order to get the experience and just to at least feel I have finally started my writing career.

We should make movies and tell stories, that in some form, make the world a better place. Cause a world that's not a better place can impact our ability to make movies. We saw that last year - and Hollywood still hasn't quite recovered. No world... no movies.

"Caring and compassion... I don't know how far that gets you." It's tough to hear, but it's been the theme for me for the past two years. It CAN inform your art - it does make artists better able to understand the people around them and to create art that acts compassionately, BUT it doesn't get that film done.
In terms of who gets published, drive is necessary. Compassion changes your art but not your output. One needs to be tough enough to push forward *and* be compassionate to make compassionate art.

It's hard work and time consuming and it's true, you have to keep the passion alive for yourself cause the process gets exhausting. The fact that it's so accessible these days is really encouraging though, I can't imagine trying to film a movie with actual film, lol. I definitely plan on finishing my movie, though I know it will take at least another year. These videos help to keep me motivated.

  • @ejbeastthamaker
    @ejbeastthamaker 2 года назад +1

After learning that it's the professional that doesn't wait for motivation or passion to strike, they just get to work, it was the BIGGEST thing for me. Entertainment is a job just like any other job and they'll be off days, days you don't feel like it, and days you doubt and get tired of it all, but if you're the glue that holds it all together, you gotta keep it that way and that's hard. Take a breaks.
I make beats every day to build consistency not necessarily get better at production. I don't work on Sundays. I take 2-3 weeks off when I need it and the key is to not be mad at yourself that your not "passionate enough" or "a real artist".
Your're a human first. Taking care of yourself has helped increase my productivity which in turn helped me get better at my craft.
Take the time. Your brain, body, and soul produces your art so take care of it and don't let anyone say you're lazy or you don't want it bad enough. I'm not here for the clout, accolades, or play pretentious house with people that think they're better than me. If they are so what?
ANYONE that shows up to work when they don't want to WANTS IT BAD ENOUGH. Take care. Show up. Make Art. 💯

02:04 This is really words of wisdom. Even how supportive people around you might seem, it's you who's going to push through when things are rough. If you can learn to face this fact, you won't quit, you'll just say to yourself: okay, it's tough now, but I'll push through. And there you go, over that mountain top.

Facts, because actors and crew drop out like flys in toxin. It could be the day before filming. You have to really want to finish it. Might have to cry, but you're either gonna get through it and finish it or give up due to severe doubt.

Making a good full length movie was the hardest thing I've ever done in my 38 years of living and 15 years of filming. It was really really tough...But I did it, so many things tried to stop me from completing my movie myself included. But I still got it done and it turned out to be a success...So please do not give up. God bless all of u.🤞🏼💯

I “quit” after not trying that hard (lol) mainly because I hate how dependent your success [of ending up with a great final product] is on the work of others. It’s like no matter how great you are at your piece of the puzzle and honing it, you still have to rely on everyone else having the talent and the work ethic to do their part too.
Yes, you can eventually make all the right connects to be on such a worthy team, but not only is it a bit of a crapshoot making it to that point, but more decisively for me, you have to settle for working with people you’re not so gung ho about in the meantime. And that’s just not that fun to me, even if I adore my piece of it - the feeling that the art as a whole might be lacking for reasons beyond my control isn’t a very rewarding feeling. 😐

Thank you sooo much. I have so given up on the sweet humanitarism I possed, because it was free and authentic. But I need to revisit the intent. Must pursue my passion on any level. Acting!! I am so good but not discovered, can approach almost anyone and Bam!!! That's my scene!!

I can no longer work a full time 9 to 5 job because I am called to write, a successful poet with lots of publications and awards and I am very skilled in writing even considered to be gifted in the eyes of readers and professors and other writers and I have loads of work that I am sure is great and just haven't gotten around to finalizing cause I got plenty of work i am currently writing and editing. I have plenty of books I am planning to write, and have written several and published.

I have a question: did you wrote this very detailed comment for others to read about you or you wrote the things you want to read about yourself ?...
Being a writer is not a job it’s a specific skillset, you need to *THINK* like a writer and a reader at the same time. Your words must impact anyone’s the way you were impacted after writing this about yourself, I have to feel the way you felt after the whole world celebrated your success with “lots of awards” ! And yet I haven’t why ? Because the first thing I wrote to you in this comment, a question only you can answer.

Hello. In my case I have a different point of view. When I begin a music composition I have to complete it. Add effects, and mix it completly. The only time I set a project for a few days is art work. It takes time to color it. I do that with color pencils then afterwards make the art work digital. I don't have to do much with photographs, because it's a matter of cropping, or turning them into black, and white. I can do that with the photo editor on the camera phone. I don't let a project undone.

"I" is so internal instead of caring about why he had to see a picture... I'm curious about how the man got the infection. Was it neglect? Could anything be done to stop it sooner? What's the plan to make sure it doesn't happen to someone else? I know a thing or two about good marketing... Take good care of people because bad PR is horrible for a Healthcare business. Geez.
The stuff about finishing a movie is spot on most people don't have the spine for it. Want, willpower, drive batteries etc...get it done. Start with 15 pages beginners
