Yes, I have several films on TubiTV, MovieCentral (a RUclips channel) and various other platforms. A filmmaker gets about $7500 for every million views (for that many views it seems a filmmaker should make more than that, but that's where the model is right now). That's based on a 75/25 deal you have with your distributor. Your distributor gets 20-25% of all revenue, so they get about $2500 per million views of your film on TubiTV or other AVOD. So the key situation here is .... Can you drive viewers to your movie parked on Tubi or other platforms (advertising and PR campaigns cost money - is it worth spending money, how much, where do you spend ad money, etc)? Otherwise, how will they find your movie with tens of thousands of other titles on their platform? These are hard questions for all indie filmmakers. Can you build-up fan loyalty for your films? Can you afford to build-up fan loyalty for your films? Every filmmaker needs a PR and marketing person or team - but for most of us, we can't afford effective campaigns.
Speaking as someone who grew up with video stores, I love Tubi and that they kind of brought back that video store feel again. Where on one end you see all the big titles headlining, but on the other end, you see a smaller movie or show you either heard about but haven't seen or simply the movie cover has you curious. I'm also glad Tubi is helping out a lot of aspiring and smaller filmmakers. It's way too costly for them to make thousands of DVD/blu ray copies that might not sell and they have no shot of landing on a TV channel. So places like Tubi is basically a TV channel and a video store combined into one.
Tubi is are doing better now then they were two years ago. I see more people talking about Tubi on social media than Netflix these days. That surprises me, but I see it.
@@Bluespirit12345that's black Twitter. But the door is closing for black independent film makers. Tubi is getting very strict from next year about the quality so its gonna shut out a lot of black folk

Thank you so much Ramon for explaining about the movie streaming industry. I have never heard about Tubi. As an amateur I agree that these days audio can make or break a movie. I pay close attention to the quality of sound in a movie regardless if it is music, the weather, or human voice. I am under the impression that sound in the movie can also help determine the mood of the characters and in general what is about to happen in the movie
Tubi is a lot better than Netflix, except for ads. I hate ads! Every time an ad comes on I always turn my TV off or down until I know for sure the ads are over.
I love too see people getting in through these platforms. I tell anybody, if you have a story use your phone and just film. Learn the process and upgrade as you go along. Technology is on your side.
He is 100% correct audio makes or breaks a movie. Because I rarely say a movie is bad or horrible because that is just one person's opinion. But I say that the movie Tooth Queen of pain is the worst movie I ever bought. It's seriously horrible because it has beyond horrible audio in the movie. I mean like 4 people in a small room an they are all speaking in a normal voice vellum. But you can only hear two of them clearly an it sounds like the other two are barely whispering. When they are all next to one another how do you mess up the audio that bad. You basically only hear like 40% of the movie the clearest audio is when someone is listening to a voice on a phone or a radio. Then you can understand every single word perfectly. But out side of that good luck being able to hear what the actors an actress are actually saying. It's like that throughout the entire movie the audio is completely garbage. The only reason I know the plot of the movie is because of bits and pieces over the radio. So I tell people that movie is truly horrible because of its horrible audio. Then say it's not really worth the time to watch it because you can barely hear an understand anything that they are saying in the movie. By the way on the DVD their is no subtitles option so you can't even read what they are saying.
Tubi is owned by the Fox Corporation. The Murdoch family side, not the 20th Century Fox owned by Disney. Tubi is NOT Black owned. They just see the dollars in 21st century Blaxploitation, which is what it is....
TUBI helped me endure a lot of drama, during a rough time in 2021. Tv shows like: Eddie Murphy's ridiculously, stereotypically-offensive...late 1990's claymation series, "The PJs" (so bad...but funny as hell. And I'm from NYC project housing🤣 ). And oh, my goodness. Horror movies like the "VHS" anthology...."As Above, So Below".....and I recently (after avoiding it, for several years) watched and enjoyed "Doctor Sleep". Yeah, they have the cheesy, Blaxploitation films....and they aggressively push "everything gay and lesbian" films....but, you can find a lot of well-known sci-fi, horror and comedy films. Including those you may have skipped, years ago (like me). I can endure the agenda-driven advertisements....for all the free content.
Tubi is a hell of a lot more lenient with approved films and cameras too. Does the quality look great? Does the movie actually tell some sort of story and not look like a high school film?... You're in! I know Tubi has a name for letting film makers with "findings" in te film but they give the smaller a standing EQUAL chance!
I enjoy Tubi! I don’t have NF or Hulu anymore. I check Tubi just as often as I do Prime. There’s a wide range of options. I’m partial to shark movies and there are so many😁. Plus as he’s explaining, I can see how it is a good platform for newbies to get a foot in and maybe learn how to navigate with a smaller scale that may not be too overwhelming. Similar to how the videos on FC explain making shorts. It’s come a long way and I truly mean this sincerely, but I don’t mind AVOD ads if I can “gamble” on a couple of movies during the day while I wfh.
What advice do you have for an author who was thinking about putting their book on Amazon? What other route would you recommend? I just finished a book and was thinking about putting it on Amazon.
I know the connections on how to get your movie on Netflix but not Tubi, so that is why I might put my projects on Netflix because I have the offer with Netflix.
It will take them a while, but free ad base streaming is definitely growing. They've surpassed and is making more money than standard TV as evidence by Tubi's earning reports. Heck here in Canada, PlutoTV has one of it's best success stories after only 1 year being available in Canada. The platform is currently getting over a billion total minutes watched monthly in Canada alone.
I was thinking to myself, Tubi and those memes though. 😂 I don't know I think it's hit or miss right now. You gotta really be passionate about new artists and supporting their work. Those wigs and that guy playing Jesus though smh. Imma wait a few years 😂
Tubi and alot of the free streaming services operate from a "trickle effect" type economy. Basically the good quality and better films and shows attracts people to the service. For example they currently have the Robocop films and the first 2 Terminator films on it and a few months ago had various DC films with the most noticeable one being Batman vs Superman. However they also have a ton of excess content that's meant to get people curious to try out something new or something they heard about, but never watched until now. Apparently it legit does has some success. Plus you know what they say "everyone has to start somewhere". Very few new filmmakers get lucky with that multi-million dollar budget movie. Most would be lucky to a movie with just $100,000. So places like Tubi is a good way to let smaller filmmakers get a start on that career.
But knowing economies of scale, sooner or later, TUBI will activate quality control and a lot of Black filmmakers will get cut out. They're gonna have favoured Black production companies capable of making network TV quality movies and cut out the home made stuff.
At least people have altenative, Netflix has been monopolizing streaming service for the whole decade which is why Netflix became lazy. The only issues with tubi is the quality is still not there, too many dumb script and acting
I’m seriously considering canceling Netflix for Tubi. Tubi has way more movies categories I like than Netflix. I’m a huge fan of paranormal movies, strange events, true events, western especially black western, apocalyptic and situational dramas which Netflix is lacking. Even Fawesome have some decent flux’s from time to time. I barely watch Netflix since I discovered Tubi and Fawesome.
