- This Video goes with my two Swap Series video's. How to swap a Vr6 into a MK2 and How to swap a 1.8t into a MK2. To keep this simple this is for cars with MK4 swapped engines.
If you've been using your MK2 cluster with the cable running down to your transmission for the MPH. You will change that out for a MK4 speed sensor that goes into the transmission. Both MPH and RPM will work

To get your cluster to power up you will need to make a jumper wire to E2 to D8. Plenty of information online on this. Good luck I hope this video helps. 👍
Great video as ever, shows how simple it is really, have got a 3.5 dash in the garage ready to go in next project.
Morning Jake I don't have a MK2...yet, but good info keep it up good info as always whether you make mistakes or nail it in the first try you always keep the info coming.
I was able to cut that layer of cardboard-like material out from the upper inside of the dash with a utility knife. Also I believe 4 and 6 cylinder clusters are interchangeable, you just need to program the cluster to work with the correct number of cylinders. There's a thread on vortex called "mk3 cluster tricks" that goes over this process. Thanks for all the helpful vids as always. My mk2 vr6 swap is going strong and your build was my inspiration. 💪
Your rpms will be off if you use 4cy cluster on vr6 and vice versa
Better than coffee :) Best way to start day with some Rawson vibes✌🏾🔧
Thank you Thomas
Damn son, that was raw lol
Might have to do this in my Cabriolet
Great video! I can’t wait to try it on mine
I love this video
Perfect!
Thank you so much
Wouldn’t of been able to figure out how to do the swap without this video so Thankyou 🙏 curious how you got the speedometer to work? I’ve read about people using a speed sensor from an aba on the 02j transmission but looking at the one from the aba it doesn’t look like it would work proper? If you could help me out I’d appreciate it
yes speed sensor. I think you need to use the same as your engine. So if its vr us a speed sensor from mk4 vr, 1.8t from 1.8t trans
Nice made
Great man👍
My cluster brackets is made of plastic.
Good info again 👍👍
Thanks
Plastic, I've never seen that.
@@JakeRawSon
I have never seen it before either.
Keep up the good videos👍👍
@@nilsjohnsen7515 Can it be that you have the "hard" dashboard, which was used in the entry level trims?
Although I live in The Netherlands, and specs differ per market, I have a 1991 1.3i CL (which I guess stands for Crisis Level) and it also has the hard dash, with plastic brackets...
Benefit with this dash, though, is that there is more space on the inside, so need for grinding due to the lack of foam and the top side rarely crack. ;-)
@@VW_Golf-II_VR6
Yeah it’s all plastic inside my dash.
Mine is a 90 mod.
I have seen the same dash as Jake has on earlyer mod here in Norway.
@@nilsjohnsen7515 As far as I know, the soft dashboards were built in the GL trims and higher (so, CARAT, GT, GTI etc)
will this work with a AAA mk3 vr in a ce2 mk2?
Didn't the mk2 cluster use a speedometer cable? How did you get that to work?
Use the sender from a mk3 or newer box its elecronic
Told you I'd watch it!!!
Thanks Dave
I'm hear, I was told I better be hear.. 😁👍
lol thanks Joe
Jake unrelated question to this vid, i wanted to find out what suspension you did on the wagon? i searched vids couldn't find it, Thxx
It's just a H&R cup kit I found at a junk yard. This video ruclips.net/video/GJhlFvd8yJk/видео.html
@@JakeRawSon thanks dude, any chance you have the p/n handy? were you saying different springs or shocks in the back due to wagon? thx
Nice informative video. If I may make one comment, though, it would have been even better, if you had removed the steering wheel, in order to give a better view 😉🙈
Dear Jake! Could you tell us, What we need to do. if we want to take the original mk2 cluster, but we want to run perfect with rpm and mph/kmh? What we need to change for this operation?
I think you would need something like this s-pautomotive.com/product/digital-to-analog-tach-adapter-module-with-cylinder-converter-combo/
@@JakeRawSon Millions of thanks! You helped me a lot with this.
What about the cable that runs from the transmision that plugs in to the cluster
This is only for people that have done a mk4 swap
Hello i was wondering of changing my golf mk 2 cluster with mk 3 cluster would that be possible if the engine and everything else is stock or ?
no. Only for mk4 swapped engine cars
@@JakeRawSon oh well thats a shame but still thank you for the reply😊
does the same thing apply for a mk4 cluster?
not sure
Do I have to modify any wire 🤔 . Or is it just plugs and play?
you just have to make a jumper wire.
@@JakeRawSon hey Jake the mk3 cluster will work in my mk2 with the stock engine 8v .I just swapped the mk3 cluster and the only things that work are clock and millage
Can it fit in a golf 1
Physically yes, not plug and play. MK1 cars are CE1, this cluster was using CE2 wiring.
Does your gas gage still work? And does your signal light's and everything else
Yes but all my cars are mostly mk3 or mk4. The only thing that's mk2 is the shell and some interior.
I have a 1990 carrado with a 1.8t from a 2005 gti and my dash is still Is original and my rmp and speedo don't work I'm hoping to do this swap you have done @JakeRawSon
@@woods702 Yep it will work
So my fule Gauge should work after this swap ?
Also will only a 1.8t work with my set up?
r.i.p ce1 brothers....
Como le hiso la conexión eléctrica
Por los comentarios que he estado leyendo, con sus arneses originales, solo hizo un puente del E/2 al D/8
Would it work in a mk1 cab cluster ?
Thats all ce1 stuff so prolly not.
I’ll be doing this job on my mk1. However my car will have the EC2 from a 99 Jetta. So everything he’s doing will apply to a mk1 with EC2.
mine mke holdwrs are plastic
:)
Why don't you just drive a mk3?
because they frame welds came rusting from the factory...
Because they have no soul.
MK2 for life.
Obviously not. Toyota Supras
Go ahead and put a VW cluster into your Supra.
