in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve

I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Thanks for the catch up! Found you this year as I was looking for current (not old) experiences with milking robots. (Making plans for my own herd.) The best version of you is the authentic one. Crazy people that think you should be like them and tell you so, have a poor grip on facts and think WAY too much of themselves. Trying to please them will make you as crazy as they are. The real you as you bring us along on your adventure is quite enjoyable! Thanks for drawing the blinds on the window into your world for us to have a look.

Done it both farming and butchery worked on farms when i was young until 17 or 18 then served time at butchering even worked at abbbatoir for many a year but wish id stuck to farming its a long story great channel all round keep it goin 👍🏴🏍🏍🏍

Hi Charlotte, a nice video to end 2023. It's had its up and downs but you and Roy have pulled it all together as a well oiled team. He does the work and you supervise him while you do your videos. Ha Ha. Next year will be big for your farm with the dairy starting, choosing dairy cows, and setting up the palour. Plus the Wynn chasing the sheep and you just doing you usual work like feeding animals and feeding your family. We are here for you and your comic way with the content of the videos, which is not always farming relevant. Love the 'aviation update' and your cool driving style in the Bobcat. Looking at this and the sheep dragging episode we used to keep a few in back garden, screw lambs but they grow and you keep them cos it’s only two or three. Neighbour rang at 6.30 is it alright if your sheep eat wallflowers. Kit,on quick and try to extract sheep from stock fence. Ears are a nuisance so you are astride a sheep in your garden in view of neighbours trying to extract an uncooperative animal in village surroundings. Took a lot of living down!
I think the parrot you saw in London was a green parakeet which escaped from a film studio some years ago, believe they can be a problem for soft fruit growers.
Thank you for doing a recap video of 23 Charlotte, it brightened up a wet dismal January day seeing all that summer sun with the silaging and flat 8 hay bale monitoring..😂. Ups and downs make in life create lasting memories, and I always say without the bad days the good days wouldn't seem so good. That little lamb being born still had me on the edge of my seat😢 willing it to breathe. Thanks to you and Roy and family, hope 24 sees some big steps forward for you with the farm... ❤❤❤

Wow, end of march, the shed to be up and running, cows in place?? Remember Tom Bs time scale for his parlour build, it over ran about double. There's so, so much to do, I've been through new builds, revamps etc, never ever goes to time, but wishing you all the best and hope it all goes ahead as expected x

Hey happy new year to you too, so you’re gonna stay making videos of stuff you think is funny, thank god for that! Cause we seem to have the same sense of humour ( probably should stick an amoji here but couldn’t be arsed finding the most appropriate one) and girl you gonna need that sense of humour if you manage to get that new dairy unit up and running by the end of march ( anyone giving odds) actually I wouldn’t bet against you guys but remember every farmer in these islands is really really hoping for a very dry and therefore very cold January and for the most part February as well and you guys are looking for the mildest two months ever ( concrete don’t like frost). Started two major construction jobs on this place today, yeah I know just in time for the really cold weather but need’s must and looking at the slurry store if it gets really cold we have plenty of work getting out slurry if we can’t build. Remember and this is from an old guy who has been there and done that , when the contingency fund is gone and the emergency cattle are sold and you still need more , you can always get a few quid for the woolly backs😅😅, the very best of Irish luck to you and I genuinely hope you are nearly up and running by Patrick’s day!
