Burying the Channels for the Robot shed

- Work starts on the dairy shed and the first thing we need to do is bury the pipework and slurry Channels, dean arrives with his new Holland digger and makes light work once the plans were checked over by mark at Lely centre. We discuss how shocking Peggy is as a ratter and she is RUBBISH!! I show you the old MOD parts bins that were at the garage and pull out a few old Austin mini marts that were left in.
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve
I will be taking you all along for the ride so hit that subscribe button and see you every other day for farming vlogs.
I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Love your vids lass iam a new watcher of your stuf and its great iam from cumbria my self but have lived in austrailia since 1982 eney way love your vids thank you be safe
great video you do right to stay as you are good luck to you and roy on the dairy build
Good luck with the dairying,,,looking forward to seeing the job progress 😊😊
This is so exciting my love ❤
Hi Charlotte, I watch a large dairy farm on you tube by Evie Gibbons from Preston Lincolnshire. They have a mainly friesian cows and have just built a big shed for their cows to lay down in including a new dam for the slurry. You may be interested in her site to see how the did it. Chris from Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺.
I have seen her yes, very interested in the farming and cow content she puts out it’s good to learn from others!!
Charlotte keep doing what you do just the way you choose to do it, if you were to change we would loose your brilliantly zany humour and wonderful outlook on life. Stick with it kiddo, long may you reign.
Ask Tom Pemberton, or the Ginger Guy, the creep feeder question, they should know.
Always entertaining so you are lol
Nice One Charlotte Thanks again
Charlotte, a little tip re your little furry rat friends. They don't like lime on their feet, the lime you use to disinfect sheds with do rightly. But keep the doggies away. Rita 😊 🇮🇪
Your a star I have a few bags from lambing
@@charlotteashleyfarm we use it around the straw store to prevent them cutting the twine/bands on the bales of straw and it does the trick.
Exciting times. What will the Lely barn look like when in operation. Just named the barn for you. Happy New Year to you all including our viewers
Going to be an exciting, and fascinating, year at Laitha. And your advantage is having watched Tom P you just know there will be hiccoughs. Good Luck you all.
😢Hi Charlotte, are you excited, yes! There is work starting in the big shed and there is a proper man doing the work. Ha Ha. I thought the old shelf system could be used to store lots of wine bottles, you may need a few while building the dairy. Rats are a unwanted pest. We usually put the poison in the roof space where the other animals can't get it. Why not enlist the help of the kids to assist holding the camera when shooting the big build. Anna is a natural, a chip off the old block. Your relaxed life as a farmer is over now, it's work, work, work while Roy supervises the big build. Chris from Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺.
Drew Pritchard will buy the metal cabinets, seen him pay £500 each really, Roy will like then 😅
I think if you can make a creep feeder work in your operation then why not? No 2 farms run the same way
The xmas mulled wine still affecting our Charlotte lol . xx
Great to see the first hole dug. When you're concreting don't overfill the Keenan....😂😅😢 Those pigeon hole shelves are worth a bit in original condition, Drew Pritchard will have them off you and sell them on to someone with loads'a dosh, then you could buy a library ...😘
Ha ha ha bloody concreting 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I saw that I was pissing myself a bloody Keenan well if it works 😂😂😂 I’ll stick to Russell Hoggs & sons
That's a big job there Charlotte, looking forward to see how it progress !!
Nobody needs to know.. But this is RUclips so you will tell us anyway :D
I know some people say it's rude to talk about money but you have been planning this build for quite some time .......i'm guessing that when you costed it all at the beginning it probably wasn't going to cost as much as what it is going to cost now because as we all know prices have gone up a lot in the last couple of years and the guy with the digger for example his hourly rate will have gone up.........are you concerned about what the final cost is going to be........i know you say that your getting a grant on some of the things but the costs have gone up a lot and just to add salt to the wounds the milk price has dropped quite a lot in the last 12-18 months
Your not far wrong there Gerald costs have been on the rise it’s a good point I’ll do a bit in tomorrows vid about it x
Great video Charlotte. Looking forward to following progress on the build. That’s an impressive building and wow those lights are bright. Love the storage rack.
I don't cut the sides of the rap Charlotte. just give it a quick sharp pull 9 time out of 10 it works.
Creep feeder could be handy to feed the last calves of the season so they can get something if the older calves bully them…. Also if you raise any beef steers on a nurse cow.
There should be no need to push the feed to dairy hiefers, therefore they do not need adlib feed. Normally would feed them once a day in a trough. Hope all goes well with the installations.
Been working with, managing dairy cows 34+ yrs, never needed or used a creep feeder. You need controlled weight gain in growing calves, once weined off milk at 6,8,10 wks , if grass supply is tight in dry summers, yes batch feeding of concentrates will be needed- smaller younger heifers may need splitting off into a different group for extra food to push them on a bit more to catch up with older ones.
On a different note charlotte- if you have any questions, want answers, an opinion, I'm willing to assist and help you if you want to ask me. If you're totally new to dairying, especially using robots, you'll need help and advice.
Ian that is so kind and I’ll take you up on that honestly it’s all very new to me x x
Excellent Charlotte - looking forward to following the shed progress
I feel short changed today, what happened to shouting aviation update😂😂😂
I am so sorry I know I thought that myself 😂😂😂😂
How exsiting
Crawford's farm on RUclips has. Just put up a huge shed and handling system. Might be worth an advice chat
He’s put up a beef shed with loose housing the only thing that will be the same is the frame 😂😂
@@charlotteashleyfarm opps, forgot about beef/diary!
Feel a bit Bit silly, now
Keep up the fantastic stuff 👏
Hello there. Are they LED lights in that big building. They will save you money on your
electric bill.
They are indeed :)
@@charlotteashleyfarmIt was just like day light looking inside that building and just wait until they are all on. It's nicer working when you can see what you are doing.
Oh I am so excited it's starting 😊 the build I can't wait and I know your not changing your videos but you are you and that's why we love watching you so much ❤❤ and halfway through my shift and you made me laugh those hens cleaning in the dirty love it. And what about aviation up date you never said it 😢 😅😅 xx
way haven't you put it in the work shop? or is it just me thinking that😀
Oh we have two one is already In there and to be fair I totally haven’t used it 😂😂😂😂😂
Antiques rd show plus farmers weekly love it great video today sweetheart ❤
I would keep the style of story telling you already use - even if you drop a week or so behind like Farmer P or Crawford to give yourself some breathing room, it still feels seasonally relevant. I find the Tom P style of Vlog frustrating sometimes because although he tries to do a story narrative, because he is not consistent and jumps in and out of some stories, you get lost as to what you are following with him
Brilliant storage rack.
How long will it be before a sheep falls in the hole. 🤔
Oh stop it literally immediately they are so bloody stupid
what you can do is give a summary at the end of the work on the milkchet
The what now?? Is this a forum or chat somewhere
@@charlotteashleyfarm sorry if you don't understand but english is not my first language , google translate for my
no dont need a crete feeder just one gate fence feeder makem from crash barriers
Ask Tom P about creep feeders hes never shown them on his vids
You never see Tom Pemberton do aviation updates.
Do they have planes in Lytham? 😂
@@charlotteashleyfarm 😂 the only thing allowed to fly is Tom’s drone!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 HRH Thomas de Pemberton
Sorry, but getting boring
Shame feel free to piss off then
Obvious Troll mate - commented the same on Ollys last one. Maybe we will see him next Tuesday?@@charlotteashleyfarm

I've found a new Scottish blog that's similar to Charlotte's farming... Nickola, Livestock_farmHER she's quite good.
The first avaition update of the year, Thanks Charlotte :)
And I didn’t shout it wait until tomorrow a HUGE ONE came over
Worked with dean 30years ago he still can’t drive a digger 😉😆
You wait until I tell him 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
