Had he remained silent when she blanked the situation would have been incredibly uncomfortable for Newman. With that "gotcha" Peterson delivered a comic relief which gave Newman some room to compose herself and get back to track. Peterson here showed the kindness and humbleness that she would not have had with him if It had been the other way around.

I thought about it and there's difference between saying words and doing physical damage: impact of the words depends on how you receive them, whereas if e.g. someone slaps your face, you receive the slap exactly how it was sent to you.

The problems arise when other people try to enforce their opinion on people who don't share it. It's okay to come to a compromise, or agree to disagree, but it's not okay to selfishly override another person's agency.
