  • Over the past few weeks, we've been hard at work turning our outdoor space into our own personal oasis. From scooping gravel to building a new fence, each step has been a labor of love. Now, we're tackling the next phase: pouring our own concrete!
In this video, you'll see us learning the ropes as we form and pour concrete for the curbing, ensuring a custom fit that enhances both the aesthetic and functionality of our pool area. The process wasn't without its challenges, but with teamwork and determination, we're thrilled with the results!

Something you said stopped me completely - "All I want to do is learn new stuff". IF we had more people with that type of desire in life everything would be better. So many people would know how to do more things and then they teach others and off we go. KEEP that attitude sir.

The other side of the coin: I had a girl at work who were junior staff but thought that as soon as she learned to do something she should get to do other things and the senior staff should do the stuff she didn’t want to do any longer.

Keep a spare 5 gallon bucket around for the excess concrete. Fill it up eventually, and even drop a big eye bolt in it. Then you can use them as weights for canopies or other things you're worried about blowing away

Not bad for a first timer. The key to finishing a slab is place it, level it, then edge the float the surface , re edge, finish float and broom it. A broom finish gives you traction around wet areas. All in all you did a great job. Oh yes removing the forms as you did is absolutely correct.

I love watching you guys because you take the initiative to learn on your own. That's a good thing being a homeowner. My dad didn't have RUclips, but he bought books and studied and put it to the test. He did it all and ended up being a handyman beside going to his regular job. The projects he did are still standing there today after 60+ years.

Hi from Manchester England. Dylan stop beating yourself up and trying to see perfection in all that you do, your doing a great job. Most people only see imperfections if you point them out
they don't usualy go around loking for them. Pouring concrete is not easy, I know because I have a friend who does it for a living, pouring vast amounts for shop floors and car parks. Also the wetter it is the better. It will tend to level itself out and will still set but it will set stronger than if it was dry because it takes longer and stresses less. Great work you guys. love the vids, keep them comming.

Just a thought, you might should have put a piece of rebar in the edging to keep it from cracking with ground movement, 3/8" for easier bending, also could have added the fiberglass fibers to the mix to help out also. To keep your fancy new tools look new, try paste wax on em after you are done.

You should do some Mexican Saltilo tile work in the future. You'd probably be good at it. Maybe kitchen floor or outdoor walkway, patio. It's beautiful tile.

From personal experience, I would recommend putting a small piece of re-bar in the curbing. This will help with both settling as well as with tree roots. Cracking is inevitable, but the re-bar keeps everything together with shifting.

I like what you said about wanting a "life long learning" experience, so one of the things you can do when you are detailing the edge of slabs is moisten them. I noticed when you finished the steppers that you had some issues. Use a little water to keep it more workable. It wont give you a ton of time, but will help with not tearing it up as you are working.

Occidental is the real deal!! Framed houses with mine in snow, rain , and summer for years! On those long days the suspenders really help carry the weight for when your loaded down or at least get the hip pads. One of my favorite things about occidental is the ability to get other additional pouches which a leather worker can pin them to the belt. Also get some leather treatment or some beeswax and rub it in during those times your not using em! 👍🏻

For larger areas like the pavers, rebar is probably smart. Also, once you've done a first pass on it, use a recip saw with no blade on the outside of the form to vibrate it and get alot of those air bubbles out.

I was enjoying your RUclips channel but when you used the phrase "poops and giggles" I decided to subscribe. Lived my life resisting foul language love channels where I don't have to hear it. Thanks 👍✌🖖🍻 good job, peace, live long, and have a drink(responsibly of course) no drinking for you Molly, for a while anyway.

Any time you "RUN OUT" of a small bit of concrete, the easy "fix" is to just grab a stone, or a few stones, and push them into the concrete, sink them, and then finish the concrete on top of them. Your concrete mix already has aggregate, so a few larger sones, or a shovel more of gravel will be perfect. 😉 Great learning experience, and I'd give you a B+ for sure!!

You guys are awesome! Can’t wait each week for your next project and video. Keep up the great work and Dylan or Mr Perfection, I feel your pain going from custom furniture work to framing and concrete forms! God bless both of you. ❤

You should buy one of those large industrial mist fans were you can put water. Just haul it over the workplace whenever you need it and you'll have no problem with too much heat and sweat.
