Using the Whitechapel preset, which uses the Metal 2000 (Peavey '5150' amp model), but I modified a lot. Bear in mind, I'm also using a JB (higher output pickup). Gain around 4, Volume around 8, Treble around 10, Mid at 1, Bass 4, Reverb 3, and the Master was on 2.5 for this vid.
No, you really don't need any pedals. Just a guitar equipped with a good humbucking pickup (a tremelo bar helps too) and an amp that can generate that classic rock, "hot overdriven" tone. Pedals/effects that EVH frequently uses however are an MXR Phase 90 and MXR Flanger for certain solos and a chorus with delay/reverb (set low; subtle, and in the amp's fx loop). Hope that helps!
Bear in mind I'm using a JB (higher output pickup). The setup was Metal 2000amp model: Gain around 5, Volume around 8, Treble around 10, Mid at 1, Bass 4, Reverb 3, and the Master was on 2 for this vid. Also, make sure you're using the Greenback speaker cabinet emulation in the expanded menu.
wow man ive been doing research like crazy. looking at line 6 vox etc.. play stuff mostly iron maiden and metallica but this amp seems to nail tones thanks for your video
Thanks Josh! The guitar is an OLPmm1 (budget copy of the MusicMan Axis) that I painted, put on locking tuning machines, a graphite nut, and graphite saddles for better tuning stability. I'm using the bridge pickup the entire video, which is a Seymour Duncan JB (The neck pup is a Seymour Duncan '59).
Thank you! I did modify the pedals...no overdrive added (JB makes an OD pedal on this preset completely unnecessary) and using a very subtle tape delay, that's it (aside from a separate MXR Phase 90 pedal going before the amp that I use in some solo spots).
Wow!! Really Great & Awesome Van Halen Guitar Playing Riffrs Here By You, Ray!! I Loved It Alot, Bro!! Big Huge Thumbs Up For You, My Best #1 Rockin' Guitar Bro!! - Big Will / The Super Blues Universe
I'm actually not sure...never had the interest to use the fuse software, just wanted to make a few really usable, authentic-sounding presets (sparkly cleans, classic blues & 'brown' hard rock crunch). Part of the joy with this amp is to figure out how to get the tones you want because all of the components are there (lots of amps, speaker cab combinations, fx, etc.), you just gotta figure it out and make it happen :) Good luck with your new Mustang, I'm sure you'll love it!
Awesome playing. You should adjust the amp settings in the metal 2000 category. Like cab, or maybe bias or presence. I think it might be the cab if not try the american 90's amp setting. Both are great. Love your playing by the way, keep on rocking bro
Let me ask you one more question, I don't even have this amp at all yet but I'm getting it like tomorrow and I know like everything about it and how it works. I've been looking through presets on the FUSE website and I found a few. Now, when you import these presets to the amp, do you have to replace existing ones, or can you add them as new? If you can't answer this that's fine. Thanks.
Thank you for the compliment, and I hope you enjoy your Mustang. When I begin to learn any difficult song (whether by Van Halen or anyone else), I'll use any means at my disposal to initially discover how to play it (Tablature books, live performance clips, RUclips vids, etc.), because in the end, how good you sound playing the song mostly depends on how well- and how naturally- you physically execute the rhythm riffs and lead lines.
Whats the setups? I have A Fender mustang II and trying to get that "Eddie Van halen Sound" . Gain: Volume: Treble: Bass: Master: (master doesent really matter) And what effects? :)
Did you make any adjustments to the amp setting itself (like bias, cabinet, presence etc) or just use the standard metal2000? Now that fender fuse is discontinued I'm having a really hard time getting this sound right.
Jordan Snyder I’m sure I did, but as it was a while ago, I can’t recall the specific settings I used. With any modeling amp, you have to crank it to small gig volumes, stand back 10 feet or so, and tweak until you find the best-sounding settings to your ears.
+The J_Harter Go to the community for downloads and find the " brown sound van halen" preset. I use it and IMHO sounds pretty damn close...hope it helps...cheers
You this is so funny, people knocking the modeling sound like they would know the difference if the amp wasn't in the picture sounds great the amp don't make the guitar player, this guy would sound good on any amp, a solid state 10 watt Peavey rage lol.
Matthewmellow79 Alexis71713 this amp is one of the cheapest and best out there. You can get any tone out of it. Tubes are fucking awesome, but you can't play at a low volume on them, unless you turn the knobs a LOT. This amp is different though. You can play on low volume and you won't lose any sweet tone.

Wow, I can just watch & learn..! You are playing brilliantly, I enjoyed watching every second! :)

Thank you very much! Easily one of the best compliments I've recieved :)
Tremendo! Great playing man!

I had one, then went to and ID Core 60, then an Egnater Rebel 20. Now all I want is my Mustang back. Best damn amp I ever had.
"On Fire" off of the 1st VH album.
I love my mustang 3 and I was looking for how to get better EVH tone on it enjoyed your playing I'm 60 and have never caught up to him
Nice job dude, would make EVH proud.
Thanks! Great playing btw...

Great fender amp ... What a great sound :-))
Thanks man, really appreciate the compliment! I'm happy I can make it "look" easy now..lol. Took me awhile to get there :-)

Sounds great bro
Nice playing, Ray!
Awesome man!!!! You make it look so easy!!!!
great job! very powerful pickups too.

on fire :)
I want a Wolfgang standard so fucking badly
I have yet to download the other effects off the fuse site lol! I have the mustang 1 v2
Ray, that's awesome playing brother! Do you gig with this amp at all?
Hi you're Eddie's fan, so am I. The only reason I don't put my VH attempts here is the lack of proper sound. Some day man...
which one is the greenback speaker emulation?
Amazing playing, just bought a mustang i v1, where/how did you learn EVH licks like that? Would you say by ear was the best route or any websites etc?
Thank you for the compliment, and I hope you enjoy your Mustang. Do you need foot pedals to play most van halen songs? I just wanna start practicing and playing now
I own a mustang 3 can you tell me what preset your using please!
The one that says "4x12G"
Whats the setups? I have A Fender mustang II and trying to get that "Eddie Van halen Sound" .
Gain:
Volume:
Treble:
Bass:
Master: (master doesent really matter)
And what effects? :)
Wut do I do when I cannot finger 3 and 7 frets and tap 12th?
RorysIrishTour ......you won RUclips. Best comment ever! Cheers

you can still download fender fuse from this one forum page. just look around a little and you'll find it👍
@@softsunband I have fender fuse, just need the settings. I think they closed the preset library
If I'M using Fender Fuse, how can I get that echo or phasing sound? Can seem to find the right sound that matches yours.
+The J_Harter Go to the community for downloads and find the " brown sound van halen" preset. I use it and IMHO sounds pretty damn close...hope it helps...cheers
Thank you. I appreciate it
It sure does!
👏
Is that it, did you modify the delay/stompbox etc.? And wonderful playing man.
What present and amp model are you playing through?
anybody use the remuda app in google play store- they say its better than fuse? if so can you tone share on the app?
Remuda is for smartphone...
What's the song at 1:30?
Van Halen-on fire
You this is so funny, people knocking the modeling sound like they would know the difference if the amp wasn't in the picture sounds great the amp don't make the guitar player, this guy would sound good on any amp, a solid state 10 watt Peavey rage lol.
I got a Mustang 3. Tell me Your preset!
I used a Metal 2000 preset with a bit of tape echo for fx.
say please, please!!
what amp eq are you using
Great rock n roll setup, but just doesn't sound close to his sound.
not too impressed with the amps sound kinda artificial? But your playing is great as always!
this uys better than halen
It sounds great until you start chugging on the bass strings, at which point it sounds flabby and lifeless.
great playing but recording sounds thin
Great guitarist but this amp does you NO JUSTICE! you need a tube or something like Black star, Hughes and kettner, or egnator
