The Perfect Peated Scotch Pairing

- Hailing from one of the most renowned distilleries in Scotland, today's pairing is a perfect example of what peat can add to the flavor profile of a single malt Scotch, and how that plays with a full-bodied premium cigar.
In this video Mazz talks about how peat moss is used in the distillation process and the characteristics he looks for in a peated Scotch as he sparks up the perfect cigar to pair with it: Ashton Virgin Sun Grown (VSG)

That Ashton VSG is on another level...top shelf🏆🏆
Would love to see a video on all the kinds of shapes and sizes that cigars can come in!
Absolutely love Octomore! Def need something bold and layered to stand up to it!
Phenomenal choices. This channel just keeps hitting it out of the park with the content. ANTHONY is always killing it with the reviews.
Just had a Laphroaig 10 cask strength with a Davidoff Nicaragua 10y anniversary, which was amazing. When you pair a peated scotch with a good cigar you can have a great time. Liga privada 9 and DTT sin compromiso also pair really well with a peated scotch.
All you need now is a dark as death imperial stout to wash it all down.. holy trinity of flavours
I’ve had a vsg in my humidor for the past 3-4 months saving it. I believe today is the day 😊
Hope you enjoyed!
Into scotch and cigars, more videos like this
They’re too proud of Octomore, I’m perfectly happy with Port Charlotte at 1/5 of the price!
Sure, but they are not exactly the same are they…. It will always be dimishing returns when spending more… be it whiskey or cigars
@@mortenfrederiksen3063 kind of my point
@@mortenfrederiksen3063 the gist of my post
I’m only recently getting into Scotch and I just got introduced to Octomore 13.1 a couple weeks ago. After sampling it (some of the best whisky I’ve had), I was hoping to see Mazz include it in a pairing on the channel.
As always, you deliver! You guys are outstanding! Can’t wait to try the VSG as well. 👊🏾
Perfect timing 🙌 glad you enjoyed the video!
Wish I was there with you and enjoy this cigar ❤
Would be a great idea if he hosted a cigar event at the Holts location. I'm sure it would be a sold out event
Good idea
We have several events year round. We'll announce them on the channel to keep you guys posted 👊
@@holtscigars that would be excellent. I didn't realize that.
Good to hear that ❤
If it's your all time favorite cigar I'm going to try it now.
Hope you enjoy 🔥🔥🔥
Nice pairing! I always keep a few VSG in my humidor. I haven't paired with a peated scotch, but I think I will soon!
you won't regret it 🙌
I spy a spellbound VSG. That my favorite of the line. I’ve paired it with Laphroaig 10, that’s my go-to Islay. Great pair.
😋🔥 thanks for sharing!
Somehow, I knew that line was coming at the end.
Really aprecciate the historical context. Very well made.
☝️💯
Man, I just love your videos and how you explain it all perfectly…
Enjoy whisky, enjoy cigars and keep enjoying life…
Peace !
Thank you for the kind words 🙏
If only I could find ANY Octomore!
Ashton VSG is my all-time favorite Cigar!
🙌🔥
@@holtscigarsYou guys should review Diesel and Camacho cigars.
I just discovered them and they're great!
Octomore is excellent! I gotta try the VSG now.
Best peated scotches I've had are from Bruichladdich and Ardbeg, both have that smoke mixed in with sweetness and brineyness that I don't get from others. I've been looking for full bodied cigars that have similar elements to pair with it.
It takes a special cigar to pair up with a peated Scotch
I have thousands of cigars and drink nothing, but Islay whisky or anejo tequila.
Great analysis Sir👍
Great video!
Nice video and enjoyable review! I like VSG the most from the Ashton family!
don't blame you!
Love your pairings Mazz , that VSG is absolutely one of my top 5 smokes.
Great pick, Ken!
Just wanted to let you know I tried it and probably wouldn't have if it wasn't for you. Very good stick. I think your reviews are very informative.
Love to hear it!
this dude has the best job in the world
Good Evening 😊 Awesome Pairing👌🏽 What more can one ask for a good smoke and a perfect pour 🥃 Greetings From South Africa 🇿🇦
Really nice video. I definitely will try this combination❤
Hope you like it!
Love peated scotch, didint really know what cigar went with them. I’m totally going to try this.
you're in for a treat 🙌
Let us know what you think when you do!
Ahhh love peated scotches. Do you think the VSG would pair well with Lagavulin 16. What other cigars could stand up to peated scotches?
Padron 1926 Natural or the My Father Le Bijou just to name a few others
Hey off the wall question here. But honestly i personally know no cigar smokers to ask... while setting up my thermoelectric humidor it took about a month to understand and get it to cooperate with me. So, a chunk of my cigars have dropped to around 60RH. Will they raise back up in a timely fashin even with the cellophane sticker on it. Or should i just cut the fold under the sticker to open them up a lil bit. Thanks Anthony, really enjoying you monthly club and i appreciate all the info helping me get going. Your a gentlemen and a scholar. Cheers 🍻 my good man
Leave them as is. They will come back up. Thank you for the kind words!
Awesome
🙌🏼🔥🔥🙌🏼 Yum!!!
Question: How do you deal with a bad cigar or a cigar you don't particularly enjoy?
I just had a bad experience with a cigar and made it to the 2nd third to see if anything changes but by then the experience was tarnished. I tried paring the cigar with a drink to see i could enjoy it more but that didn't help.
Something I had considered was the food I ate prior to the cigar also that i was outside smoking and there was a bit of wind.
Cigars are all about enjoyment, if you’re not enjoying a cigar set it down and reach for another! Taste is personal, not every cigar is enjoyable for everyone
Any chance of a decently priced Candela sampler? I m taking a break from the AJ Fernandez lines . A Candela with a green/black tea is a treat.
Not aware of any Candela specific samplers. You’ll probably have to search them out individually. The Fuente 858 Candela or “Claro” as they call it is one of my favorites. 😉
I’ve been looking for cigar pairing with teas! I’ll have to try a Candela this weekend!
Question: do you sweeten your tea when you pair with cigars?
Thanks
@@lorenzohot5234 I’d personally put some sweetener in there. I prefer honey. Otherwise the bitterness of most teas will clash with the cigar.
I go with condensed milk or honey and milk. It takes the bite out of the tea a little
@@thorfinthorfin3010 I have to try that combo 👊🏽
Dalmoor cigar blend
They dont use peat to fire the stills 😮💨
They use peat to kiln the malts. This process gives smoky taste to the malt/scotch.
Originally they used peat to fire the stills. The process has changed over the years so you are correct as well.
It's the malt that gets smoked from a peat fire, nothing to do with stills or how they are heated.
What if your a bourbon person
The Ashton VSG would pair well with your favorite bourbon as well.
