  • Take a look at my approach for keeping bass alive in tournaments. I take a very simple approach, but it has worked for me for a lot of years. I also walk through the Xpress X-21 livewell system. Thanks for watching!

Latches transfer heat into the wells. Champion knew this forever ago and removed the latches on the livewell lids. BassCat caught on a few years ago. I wish more manufactures would do the same. One large single well is also better for the fish as it increases the total volume of water and dilutes the toxins (nitrites)put off by the fish in the well. This is why you must do water changes a couple times a day. Water treatments help nullify them. Never add ice to the fish unless it is chlorine free or you have water treatment to nullify it. G-Juice does it all in one.

Nice job we need to see more videos on how to preserve our resources as bass fisherman 👍

These are great tips. I have heard from multiple fish biologist that fish (largemouth) can take up to 7 weeks to die after poor handling. For those not in tournaments take your pictures quick and get those fish back in the water asap. It's good for all of us anglers.

Thanks for the info Luke, I might know most of this, but for new folks it can save them a frustrating day on the lake, and even better save the fish we all love to chase after.

Great video! Oxygenators not really doing anything but making some very fine bubbles. Running your recirculatory does a lot more along with the ice, G juice is an added bonus.

I’m a crappie fisherman and I was losing a lot of fish. I tried the flowrite aerator, added on my recirc pump and it made all the difference in the world and it’s not expensive.

I've always wondered why bass boats don't come with a live well temp gauge on the dash. Good tip to share. 👍

Heck, I monitor the temperature in my crawl space, I'm not sure why I'm not doing it in my livewell. I'm going to fix that. I have had the knee jerk reaction to throw a bunch of ice in the livewell. Not always the right answer.

Good info to share !! I am currently following all those suggestions and hope all other anglers do as well. I think it would pretty cool if the boat manufactures would have a Livewell Temperature gauge built into the boat and console ! Just a thought. There might be already. Oh well anywho, I enjoyed the video as usual. Try not to whip up on my buddy Darien to much. LOL

I will use a wet white towel to place over the livewell lids. It helps keep the water from getting too hot as well. Just put it in the river every 30 minutes and place on the livewell. Plus I run Oxygenators and G-Juice.

Something else that works good is the brown granular mineral salt that is used for cattle. Got that tip from a Texas Parks and Wildlife fisheries biologist. Ice and mineral salt is all they use. I think he said a couple tablespoons per livewell. But I'd have to go back and look at the video to be sure.

Hey Luke, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new X21. I currently have a Tracker Pro Team and wanting to upgrade. My question is do you think the livewell is big enough for (2) 5 fish limits. My Tracker livewell is only 20 gallon. Due to the small livewell. I can only have a coangler in team tournaments.

    • @LukeDunkinsTravelingCircus

Hey man! The livewells are definitely big enough for two five fish limits in both the X-19 and X-21

    this is great information.
the company I work for Cornfield Crappie Gear is a sponsor for Kentucky Bass Nation and the recent tournament on Kentucky lake was disgusting. the way fish were handled after the weigh in was just ignorant. I fished high school tournaments for 4 years and a few club tournaments and have never seen a fish kill like this. over 15 floaters out of a 50 or less boat tournament. made me not want to fish tournaments

    • @samgaither793
      @samgaither793 3 года назад

Seems like that happens alot on ky lake. Many stories ive heard of 5lb+ bass dead floating after tournaments. Probably why the lake fishes worse every year.

Yeah people like to blame the carp on KY lake but stories like these just prove my theory that it’s people not taking care of the resource! Thanks for sharing.

Just another example of all tournaments needing to be catch, weigh and release. Especially in the warmer months. Don’t know how we do it across the board but it needs to happen.

Or do like the kayak guys do, take a picture on a measuring board.
Some people are just dumb. I saw a guy holding a bag in a tank, his big fish had its head above water. If fish breathed through their assholes that would have been fine.
I filled him full of lead. We don't tolerate fish abuse (or child abuse) in Texas.

    • @405bassin7

@@steveparker7240 I agree with this for the local tourneys. B.A.S.S. should do what MLF does but have it best 5 fish. Only the tours with plenty of resources can go the MLF route but the local guys should do the kayak method.
