Thanks for the review video of the doorbell. The outro was a hoot, although a little scary at the end. I'll have to check for the Easter egg at the intro when I can scrub frame by frame to see what is was. ;-)
I might have had a little fun in the intro and outros. The BEST parts for sure!
Wifi Reolink is $70 today for Prime Day in July. They also have a newer white one with 3:4 head to toe and package detection for $80 but has a $10 coupon making it $70 as well.
They are a few days past the expected release date. Hoping they release this thing soon. BTW, great video as always!
A few might be stretching it...ha... I thought I had missed it with the months of delays. Glad to see it finally get here.
Hi thank you for this honest review, Yes!! Reolink's codec issues in Blue Iris, is the Main Reason why I stopped buying Reolink Cameras! and I wouldn't buy them until they fix it!! 👍❤
I gave it a name in the video.. Lol... So annoying the codec issues. Some decent products fit some niches but the codec issue kills it.
Looking forward to replace my ring cameras. Unfortunately there is no two-way audio supported yet in HA integration.
I would like to see the comparison with this Reolink and the Amcrest AD410.
I am really interested in this since I am not happy about many things with my eufy doorbell.
Lots of issues there for sure. The local stuff was pretty cool with this.
If only they were available. Hate companies that send out samples for youtubers to review but have no stock available for sale (I'm in the UK). Ubiquiti are bad for this too.... Just leads to brand frustration.
Yes I do agree with this combined with vendors rushing reviews and not letting the real reviews to happen.
I do know they had supply chain issues for a while as this was delayed for months so hopefully they will correct the issue soon.
Even worse when they decide to wait for the reviews and then realize they did well, so decide to jack up the prices since people want the product.
The UK sucks in terms of tech
That's pretty damn shady. Definitely let me know if this happens as this doesn't fly with me.
@@digiblurDIY Looking at the UK Reolink site, the doorbell is listed, but no 'buy it', only a register for updates option. I need one now not in 6 months when they finally get round to stocking there here.. I find this a lot, as a result I rarely watch first-look or unboxing videos of new products as they are generally unobtainable... If I were a tech youtuber, I'd stipulate that the product is widely available before doing a review as it frustrates viewers/subscribers, and also mostly denies the RUclips creator from an affiliate link too...
Got the amcrest and I love it as a power user - I just wish it was POE and the mobile app was faster to answer a call
Fully agree there...definitely not quick enough!
I do look forward to a ad410 comparison. Just another reason to push me to installing cat5 to the front door
If we could cherry pick features between the two....oooh so good.... like a new AD510 with PoE and Web interface. Ooolala...
@@digiblurDIY oh yeah I love the sound of that
Looks like I'll stick with my Amcrest... RTSP works great on it. But I did run an at cat5 cable just in case when I installed it :)
I just ran cat 6 to my front door today. What a pain in the you know what it was, but now I have 2 lines running. One for whatever doorbell I end up getting so it's POE and another for a front porch security camera.
I am happy you are mentionning their codec issues. They are fricking not admitting having any issues! All the footage which had the hit&run recorded went down the drain. What is even the point in having security cameras if you can't copy the videos and send them to the police!!!
I mention the codec issues all the time so people aren't surprised when using them with other systems. Hoping they will fix them but that hasn't happened yet. Other reviews skip over the important parts and don't mention the negative.
What exactly are the CODEC issues…I just set this up with my Amcrest NVR and frigate using RTSP…seems ok to me?
Dropped frames, errors in the logs of frigate etc. Go2rtc seems to be able to clean it up a bit.
@@digiblurDIY much appreciated. I’ll dig around some then. Great review. Thank you!
@@digiblurDIY It looks like my Amcrest NVR is dealing well with the Reolink RTSP Stream...no issues that I can detect. I'm setup to pull from the Amcrest NVR to Frigate via RTSP...I've got 7 cameras doing this already..all Dahua...and now the single Reolink....in this architecture Frigate is not interfacing directly with any of the cameras directly....and I'm not seeing errors in the Frigate logs.
I'm sending mine back, it has been very frustrating. There are no pop-up notifications on Android when the door bell is pressed, the same sound as a regular text message is used when the doorbell rings, make us miss deliveries all the time. There is no way how to add another chime, they do not support it, you cannot buy another one. It has been a very bad experience. Also I was expecting POE to be much faster/responsive. From tapping the app to actually view the live feed it takes similar time to an amazon ring doorbell over Wifi. Also I was expecting much less delay with audio, but it has been pretty much as bad as a wireless ring doorbell, you can hear yourself on it as well at times. It has been a very negative experience, to me sounds like a beta product at best. I bought it quite cheap in the UK as it was on sale, and now I can see why. Even though I don't like amazon and ring, I have to go back using it as at least it works better than reolink poe.
Best intro :) Cute..
Outro might be better.
Nice video.. if possible to conect the ethernet wire to a internet modem? Or have to conect to the dvr? And this have a night vision color?
Yes. You can connect it without an NVR and use the internal SD card if you like.
I wouldn't say night color unless you have enough external light.
Please do a sidy by side with the Amcrest AD410 as I have all the parts ready to install it but if this is much better I will swap it out
Definitely want to do this...please hold 😎
Looking to replace two Rings to two of these Reolinks with Blue Iris/HA. With my Rings I have three chimes and was able to program all chimes to sound when either Ring was pressed or had motion. Could you tell if this is a possibility with the Reolinks? Didn't see this in the Reolink quick start guide. Even if I only had two chimes, since at this time they don't show extra Reolink chimes available for preorder. Thx
I don't see that option except for a siren option when motion is detected. That would a great feature to add.
Looks good, let's wait for "few months later" review ;-)
Guaranteed for sure!
I've been testing this doorbell as well. My wishlist:
1: Allow activating the “quick replies” from Home Assistant. If you want that as well please ask Reolink to enable it in their API. This has many uses. e.g. when you can configure home asistant to send you a notification with a picture when someone presses the doorbell (or even when it detects a person) and the notification can have several options that you can click on for what the speaker should say (e.g. leave the package at the door).
2: face recognition: When the camera sees a person I have Home Assistant send me a notification with a screenshot. I’d like to be able to not send me those screenshots when it’s my wife etc.
3: Allow activating the alarm sound from Home Assistant:
4: Two-way audio: would be great to have this working in Home Assistant and Synology Surveillance Station
5: Full integration with Synology Surveillance Station: (play custom sounds trough the doorbell, detect person, detect doorbell press, 2-way audio) (Form to request Synology).
Weird things about the doorbell:
1: Important information to make the Reolink work remotely with a VPN if you’ve blocked it from accessing the internet: by default the Reolink app adds the doorbell based on the ‘UID’ rather than it’s IP address and then it only works using the cloud once you have excited the app and open it again. To make sure you add the doorbell based on it’s IP address you need to delete the device if you already added it. Then disable wifi on your smartphone so that you are on mobile data. Then activate the VPN. Then add the doorbell using the option ‘input UID/IP’ then choose the IP option and enter the camera’s IP address.
2: This night the doorbell gave lots of person detection events (false as there was no-one) and no motion detection events. I don’t understand that as I thought a person detection event would always be preceded by a motion detected event.
3: When the doorbell switches to Infrared mode and vice-versa it seems to be falsely reported as a motion detected event. That’s a bit amateuristic.
4: The android app has a major problem on Samsung smartphones. On Samsung smartphones it uses the microphone at the bottom (used to speak when holding the phone to the ear) and not the microphone at the top of the smartphone (used when talking in “speaker mode”).
This update (not released yet officially) Android_ReoLink_4.35.0.7.apk - Google Drive 2 helps a bit with the problem because you can set the audio volume of the built-in speaker.
Would still be far better if it uses the right microphone because I still have to hold my mouth at 1 cm distance from the smartphone so I can’t really watch the screen and talk at the same time.
Nice list! I also noticed some weird person alerts on mine. I do wish it would box in the person so I could see what it was screaming about like Frigate does. I ended up setting the object size that honestly made sense to begin with on the distance I had in my setup and it stopped.
and there is problem when u using other language than english it's useless to me quick reply, or It would be good mediay_player for HA and ez make TTS to Doorbell.
@@milandzuris you can record your own quick replies in the app so you can speak in your own language. But I agree with you
Would've been nice if you could power it with POE, then have the button be strictly mechanical and use the existing 10W doorbell transformer/wiring to trigger the mechanical chime directly. That way, the button is strictly analog, and solely responsible for shorting the 2 AC wires to trigger your existing mechanical chime. I'd much rather have that reliability than features I won't use like 2 way talk. And you still have all the fun automation/digital/recording stuff from the POE connection - best of both worlds but I'll just keep dreaming
YES!!! This!! That would be so cool. One of things I would fix in version 2 if I could take a mix the Amcrest doorbell and this one.
@@digiblurDIY my Amcrest AD110 about once a year or so will suddenly lose the ability to ring the mechanical chime. Normally a factory reset fixes it but I troubleshot all day only to discover that this time, it's something with Frigate or go2rtc that breaks it
When your "doorbell" has even the slightest chance of failing to be a doorbell, yet prioritizes other superfluous functions, you've failed as an engineer lol
it also needs to know the door bell was rung for notification and recording. so a signal wire to the IC.
@@alienJIZ1990 Yes had that happen to a doorbell that was also powered by the doorbell wires so it used a super capacitor to supply extra power to ring the doorbell. When that fails it can't ring the doorbell and even the camera shuts off due to insufficient power. If you have PoE then that could power everything outside of the doorbell.
The POE version requires a channel line from your NVR ? Or it will work if all your channels are occupied with cameras?
Or you can connect it to a POE switch. Your choice.
Has the codec issue finally been resolved? I see from their website that this device now supports H.265 in addition to H.264, which appears to have been what was only available when this video was recorded.
Not really. Still limited on what you can change as always. Go2rtc can fix it if you pass it through.
rtmp always worked better that rtsp with reolink and frigate for me, maybe give that a try.
Yeah, I've heard of the various fixes and such and covered some of it. I do prefer to use Amcrest/Dahua cameras with Frigate and BI as they are so smooth. Just going to keep doing my friendly nudges to Reolink to work on those codec issues.
I don't know why they never made the WIFI one have POE, as the WIFI one actually has a hard wire RJ45 connection port as well. They literally could have made the ultimate all singing all dancing door bell, which could have been used in a whole range of scenarios or situations. Instead they created two devices from one idea and they've made one have slightly better spec and features than the other.
Cost, you'd have to incorporate both and it would drive up the cost of the unit.
1000000000000% agree with you on this one. I've been struggling forever on deciding which one to buy. Got a great deal on the wifi one so I just bought that. Came out cheaper than the PoE version (thanks, Amazon!). I hope they fixed 3 things in their next doorbell. 1 = combine wifi and poe, 2 = add a secondary package camera which a lot of newer doorbells have nowadays, 3 = allow us to use our regular analog chime
@@ryan39584 As opposed to creating two completely separate devices with different components, features, support lines, documentation, packaging, etc? Lol.
@@---GOD---doing real poe is not cheap at all.
It is my understanding that enabling your device to work with PoE is not just simply connecting 2 wires, it will make your product significantly more expensive. Reolink aren't the only ones who do this, a lot of PoE device manufacturers do.
99% of homeowners do not have PoE nor know what it is, so it makes sense to make it an option so they can sell the one without it for cheaper reaching a bigger market.
0:39 nice easter egg! ;)
Fun stuff for sure! Like the outro.
I had a question about having the nvr. with the 24/7 recording for the doorbell/cameras what happens if the storage is full on the hard drive. Does it stop recording or does it just over rights old recordings.
Unless the recordings are set to protected then yes the old rolls off as new comes on.
you can plug directly in the back of a reolink NVR? this is shockingly not mentioned anywhere, not even reolink site. i know reolink nvr can add the doorbell on the LAN but not sure otherwise....
I don't see why not, especially if you don't have the POE port blocked from other network services. Let the NVR do that.
You mention 433 MHz for the plug-in chime -- so it is not a WiFi device?
How far away from the doorbell can the plug-in chime be located and still communicate with the doorbell?
Does 433 MHz reach through walls and floors and ceilings with relative ease?
Is there any way to extend the range of the plug-in chime?
thx in advance...
Yes. 433mhz usually has very good distance and goes through walls easily.
I wish this unit worked with your existing doorbell chime. I looked all around their website, but I couldn't find anything that said it would. I guess I get it if you don't have an existing door bell, but don't force people to use something else when they have a perfectly good chime already hardwired.
Cat 6..baller... ;) If you have it on hand why not, but definitely for others reading, cat5e is perfectly fine for cameras as long as it is NOT CCA (copper clad aluminum) it needs to be solid copper and stick to at least cat5e as cameras handshake at 100mbit and 5e is more than capable to carry 1000mbit.
can you get the doorbell notifications on your phone if you are out of the house and only have the nvr? no paid cloud subscriptions?
Yes. As long as it can reach out to the internet. Update it to the latest firmware on the doorbell and NVR
Poe doesn’t seem to work with the Reolink rtl-410
Updates it but still seems like it can’t connect to the internet through the channel port.
I get power over Ethernet but that’s all.
It will work plugged into my router with doorbell power but I don’t want to use transformer just want the Poe
Did they send the WiFi version maybe?
Any clue how i could set this up with an extra Reolink solar panel i have sitting around to use this off grid.? Yes ive got wifi but its for my cabin in the woods that i shut off power when i leave.. Any input would be much appreciated...
I would wait for the battery powered one coming out.
Are these available yet? I can't see any updates on reolink's website
Yep. I see them in stock on Amazon amzn.to/3Hsa3sq
Did you notice how your son went blurry at night when wearing a bright top, it might have been a one off. Any chance you can test walking past the camera at night wearing a bright top and see if it goes all blurry?
I did have some other night footage of the skateboarding guy in the specs section. I have a ton of footage I pulled from it. I will check. I think his shirt from the intro is a blue shirt.
I would love to see a side by side with amcrest
I have to take it down anyways to put in a storm door so I will definitely do it before I put it back up!
Any videos on how to setup in Blue Iris?
I haven't done any except for a tips and tweaks one a while back. What kind of help do you need?
Do you know if you can pair more than one chime to the doorbell?
I don't know. You would have to hit their support up on that one.
So the camera doesn't work if there is no internet connection? That's dumb, it should at least be able to record with the low voltage power. Which would be all we need to connect to it (wi-fi model)?
No internet connection required on this model.
@@digiblurDIY thx!
Apparently it's very easy to remove, just a paperclip through the hole at the bottom. Is this true? We tried the Blink one a while back and it was so loose on the bracket I didn't feel it was secure
Yeah, that's how most are removed with a hex screw or pin. Or hammer ;) This one is pretty tight.
That’s good to know, thanks, ordered one on a Black Friday week deal to try it 🙂
Did Reolink fix the codec issues with Blue Iris yet with this doorbell?
Kind of. It got better. Blue Iris also did some fixes on their side that has helped but I still get the yellow triangle on the display. It is fixed in Frigate for sure with the help of go2rtc correcting issues.
Did you try to record new quick messages? Every recording is so much overdriven that you almost can't understand anything.
Yep. I had a clip of that showing the over modulation. Hopefully they correct that with a firmware upgrade.
@@digiblurDIY Ah true, I somehow overheard that. I'm just trying to record some files and filter the overdriven frequences away.
I believe my example was in the specs chapter about mid way through. Look for the markers on the slider in YT.
Has anyone added it to frigate ? I have tried everything I can find.
They are kind of buggy with the codec. Use the go2rtc method they have in the docs to fix the Reolink codecs docs.frigate.video/configuration/camera_specific/#reolink-cameras
Anybody buy the wifi version? Does it ring the inside mechanical chime like Ring does?
Unfortunately, it doesn't. just gets power from the doorbell wires, still needs the plug in chime.
Damn. That's not good. Same as the POE one.
@Andy Versluys oh thanks for the verification, but still a good buy and better priced.
@digiblurDIY for the POE the price is still amazing and the product seems to be good. I have a Reolink outdoor wifi camera and good for cold weather. I hope this holds up like it during cold snaps in wintery areas. Thanks for the review.
Most Reolink's only show down to 14F where other brands show -40F. But I know people who had them in in 0F temps, guessing the IR was keeping them warm.
Stupid question: why is the microsd option available? Cant it be uploaded on the cloud somehow? 😊
Some people don't want to use it with the NVR but still want to review recordings easily.
@@digiblurDIY oh! That make sense! So a NVR is a combination between storage and Poe switch?
Yes. Most NVRs have a poe switch on them.
Reolink need to have a battery version, I can't easily get a wire to it so I ended up getting a competitor door bell. Shame I wanted an all in one solution to go with my reolink cctv.
Battery versions have a lot of problems due power limitations so I can understand them not having one in this release.
Been out of stock for the longest time!
Yep.. Sucks! Like trying to get a Rpi
Have the Blue Iris codec issues been resolved?
Reolink has not resolved them as of yet unfortunately.
😞
It works great with their NVR though. I don't expect them to fix it as they haven't fixed it with other cameras either. If you plan on using it with BI/Frigate then it probably isn't the one for you. Get the Amcrest AD410, pretty damn solid with Frigate and BI. Love that thing.
The put the price up at Christmas so i'm like nah fkit..
IP66 Certified Waterproof?
I don't see the cert number listed but I have had it outside getting pelted by major rain storms and it hasn't had issues.
Would like to replace my old Remo S with the Reolink but, oddly enough, the WAF isn't there with the electronic chime. She is so used to the mechanical chime and the Reolink doesn't support it (reached out to support to verify since I really wanted it). Oh well, maybe in the v2 release.. But, based on my experience with Reolink cameras, I won't hold my breath..
The Amcrest one I reviewed might be a bit better for that.
12:30 it isn't unbiased when you are given a free product that is worth $90; that is the "funds" exchanged.
OK. I don't think you watched the video. 🤔
Want one, can't find one.
Looks like Amazon says Jan 27th
surprised by the latency as this runs locally and works without internet.
Same here. All local here as it didn't have internet access.
A missed opportunity there - the doorbell should say "Your call is important to us, please wait for a member or the household to answer"
As soon as they fix that recording option. 😜
If a man package was left under the doorbell, could you see it? Will this doorbell survive direct sun and Texas heat?
Not sure I would want to see that if it was left there.
It has survived the Louisiana heat wave so far and this faces west for a good beat down during the warmest part of the day.
@@digiblurDIY Holy shit I just caught my typo. LOL. What I meant is can you see directly under the doorbell?
such a great typo though! You'd need to wedge it to get the ground more as it does have a bit of sky there you could cut off but I'd honestly have another camera in this area covering things too.
@@digiblurDIY wife is getting on my ass about too many cameras. I don’t tell her how to make sandwiches.
i really was hoping he was going to talk about the difference between the two versions, which he did not do.
Which two?
@@digiblurDIY Reolink The two mentioned in the title of the video. The PoE and the Wifi. I am trying to buy the one that will work with my Synology NAS.
They are both the same camera. They just have different interfaces. Most people will pick the wifi version that uses the existing doorbell power wiring. If you have ethernet cabling to the doorbell then definitely choose that one.
@@digiblurDIY Ya, I don't have an ethernet cable protruding out for that connection. So the wifi version will connect to the Synology NAS
@JonneytheKidd yes. It has onvif/rtsp support. You might have to enable it in the web GUI of the camera itself.
0:39 there is a human in the forest?? Scary~~~
And the secret roooommm
this dorbel has one real issue: it is NOWHERE TO FIND ;-)
They say supply chain issues delayed it for months so I can understand them being sold out again as they shipped pre-orders. I've added myself to the notification of stock as well for a couple installs where I have some NVRs installed.
No SD!
SD card?
got used to to the SD storage on the amcreast...yes reo give cloud access free and email alerts, but it would be nice to have all the laters on teh sd card on the bell
@@VAKUL-DC the SD card is still there. Look at the part where I show the POE port and such.
It absolutely has SD card slot as a matter of fact my pre order was late so they gave me a free SD card
Child labor... for shame!!! lol
It is tough and he has some weird labor rules.
Sorry not a good product I’ve seen better ty for your time
It has some good points but yes not perfect. What's the better?
This guy must be a ring owner or an employee. The camera quality from the Reolink doorbell camera will blow the 8 different doorbell cameras I have tried out of the water anytime day or night! I have not found one to be better yet. Sorry, but it's the truth!
Lol. It is pretty up there in quality.
This is a China crap. Get yourself a Ring doorbell which is a real doorbell and is owned by Amazon.
So cloud over local? Uhhh you okay there?
@@digiblurDIY I am okay with cloud, Ring doorbell is so much better especially if you utilize it with Alexa. It is much more customizable and you don't get tracked unlike Reolink with everything going back to China.
@001looker how can it go back to China if it can't get access to do so? It's local only. Your cloud camera has more issues which Ring does not have a great track record of.
@@digiblurDIY Are you going to block internet access? What is the point of doorbell camera if you can't use it when you're not at home? Yes being it's from China company, it will absolutely send everything back to China.
