I am on IF (16:08) and early in the morning I go for an hour fitwalking. When I come home I drink half a liter of cold water with the juice of two lemons and a tablespoon of ACV. I keep sweating for a good half an hour and then I feel so much energy and power throughout the whole day! Thank you for your advice!!!

I just drank my 1 tbsp Braggs ACV with my organic lemon juice in water about a half hour ago. Been my favorite morning drink for the past 20 months since starting keto and IF... I put lemon in my water all the time and I feel great!!

Some who are strict may say only water during the fasting period, but I can share from my experience losing 140 lbs over the past 20 mths using IF and keto that ACV and lemon has enhanced my fasting, not hindered it.... hope this is helpful!

I started every morning on an empty stomach with 1 Tbsp ACV, 1 Tbsp organic lemon juice, and a scoop of Dr. Berg's raspberry lemon electrolyte powder, mixed with a 16 oz bottle of water. The taste was great, and at the beginning, I needed the electrolytes. Now that I'm fat adapted and in good balance with my electrolytes, I just drink 1tbsp ACV and 1-2 tbsp organic lemon juice and 16oz water every morning on an empty stomach when I get up. I don't drink it before every meal. For me, the morning routine seems to acidify mmy stomach enough that when I do eat, usually between 2pm and 6pm, I have no issues with digestion or stomach pain. This may not work for everyone, but for me, it works well. I also drink the same mix about 2-3hrs before I go to bed. So in the morning when I first wake up, and before bed. Maybe try it with Dr. Berg's electrolyte powder like I did to start. Good luck!!

I've been starting my days with lemon water, some salt/turmeric/cinnamon, then continue to fast until the afternoon. I find that it wakes up the body and mind the moment you drink it, also empowers your fast. Try it!
@@KaRiNa-pj9sb About 1/4 tsp, turmeric in powdered form and just regular cinnamon powder. Gotta use warm water though, since the cinnamon doesn't really mix that well with cold water. It tastes pretty good too, enjoy!
my favorite thing to do after I wake up and get moving is get a nice glass of water and squeeze a half of lemon in it and by about mid day i do it again with the other half. It really helps me feel great.

My daily drink is 2 tbsp brags, 1 tbsp fresh squeezed lemon from our tree, 1/2 tsp cinnamon (very good for you and it makes it taste like apple pie) top off glass with water, drink with metal straw. Sometimes I'll add freshly muddled mint leaves from our plant, and then Chew and eat the leaves at the end.👍 I'll have this about an hour after coffee, and a second one with my final meal (18:6).
Miss You You room temperature from a brita. I have an electric kettle that I use to add hot water to bone broth from the fridge to make it more enjoyable without using the microwave. 🤷🏻♂️

I’ve tried starting my day with lemon water. I noticed that it too made me feel tired after a while just like fruit and simple carbs. Sometimes just eating makes me tired. 🤷🏾♀️
I have svt and struggle with fasting sometimes because my heart rate will just skyrocket. I have all of the symptoms of acidosis when this happens... thank you so much for this video I’m so hopeful it’ll iron out my keto/fasting issues!
FIRST thing you've said with which I disagree. I was advised to add mild lemon water by several health professionals. However in under a week I developed bleeding ulcers and had to undergo two surgeries back to back in order to cauterize the bleed. Keto had been successful for me until then but my stomach became so extremely sensitive that I had to abandon fat burning and I gained back all the weight plus. Finally recently, almost two years later, I listened to one of your videos and began with an 8 day water fast. Keto wasn't working for me the second time until I did that. Now, I'm keto OMAD and enjoying a reboot of my previous success. I only stopped this FIRST successful fast of my life because you cautioned us NOT to go for more than a week. And when I feel able I'll start another one. Since MY misadventure with incorporating acid into my diet I've met a couple of other people who've had a similar misadventure including surgical intervention. So I've learned that, it's not only ME, we are NOT all alike. Blessings to you. And I'm sorry to contradict you because I firmly believe that you give the very BEST advice on the planet . I'll add to that. Tried ACV, lemon and green tea. I felt nauseous for quite a few hours, two days in a row the second day I added a couple of drops of cod liver oil. Felt the same, until I drank tea with milk. That took the nauseous feeling away. I don't think it is linked to me not eating, I did it on IF. The ACV dosent agree with my tummy. Just giving my two cents. 😏
@@lillianjulius1371 I put citric acid in my green tea because I find it makes it more palatable but I think your nausea is unrelated to lemon juice. Green tea on an empty stomach causes nausea for many (myself included). I too find adding milk prevents the nausea.
Sounds like it must have been a pre-existing condition though. Drinking citrus-laced watercould not possibly caused that condition in such a short period of time, perhaps aggravated a pre-existing condition though.
@@megaman4201 obviously. But never to the degree where I required anything more than baking soda. The point IS that many people respond poorly to additional acid. I've met two other people (not in a medical context where I've worked all my life) but Synchronistically who have had similar rapid responses requiring surgical interventions. Idk WHY. Neither do you. I'm just adding a caution from my personal perspective due to my harsh experience which set me back a couple of years .

I was fasting for 56 hours when I went for a 12 km run. I suffered from feeling extremely out of breath after about 6km going up a hill. I was going slower than normal so that could not have been an explanation for the feeling of out of breath. The acidosis seems like the perfect explanation. Will do some water and lemon next time before my run under similar circumstances.
I did the same thing last week. Even developed dry heaves, today I started my hot lemon water in the morning and 8 ozs every 3 hours. Not sure if it’s placebo this early on, but I am ready for my run. It will be 26 hour fast this time and not the 48 hour fast.
My dental hygienist was concerned about my enamel. I love having lemon all the time. She said it doesn’t matter how much you have but get it done and then we all agreed with the dentist swish water wait an hour before you brush in general after you eat the enamel gets soft. I tried drinking with a straw. I didn’t find that very helpful the back my teeth still got lemon on them. Taking a shot maybe diluted anyway I’ve been trying all these things I chew xylitol gum hoping that helps just to get the acid off of my teeth.
@@omarabdullah2776 He did not mention that, for me I squeeze 2 lemons and 3 limes together, or sometimes 4 lemons only, or 4 limes only, then I put the juice in a big glass then I add a cold water. Sometimes I add a little of ACV. You can use warm temperature water if you want or cold water from the fridge. I use cold water because it's very refreshing. Another method you can cut 3-4 lemons or 4-5 limes in slices then put them in a big glass or jar then add water then put it inside the fridge. "You can make less or more of lemons or limes together or separate it depends as you like" you can try method 1 or method 2. For me I prefer method 1 squeezing... "Wash the lemons, limes before you do anything".
My wife is a T2D and has gone into KDA twice. Once when she was first diagnosed and again when her endocrinologist changed one of her meds to Jardiance.
I have used ACV + fresh lemon juice for morning drink since diagnosed w fatty liver in March 2019. Together w changes in my diet, I lost 12 lbs which is 10% in 6 months and reversed my fatty liver. I have kept up w my morning drink + doing 16/8 IF on 6 days a week, and have lost another 3 pounds since.
Love your informative videos. I’ve been drinking the juice of half a lemon in hot water (120degrees) every morning as soon as I wake up for a couple of years now. Is it safe to drink at that temperature or which is the right temperature in order to get all it’s benefits. I also wait about an hour after I drink it to have my breakfast. Thank you and God bless

Annie Djaswadi I ‘ve been doing this for over 20 years with lukewarm water. It’s a nice refreshing drink, I rarely get a cold and my skin looks good,. No problems with kidney stones and I always recommend to others that they do this too.😊

@@Candyangel63 I may rely mainly on a ketogenic diet, but honey is one sugar I cannot remove from my diet for these reasons.. And a little goes a long way! My ancestors have been using it for years and years, and I believe in 'eating the way people did a 100 years ago'. Just like maple syrup, it had its own very unique proprieties/minerals. We could talk about honey for so long haha
i started to have all those symptoms yesterday night, i woke up on middle of night with my heart pounding and pounding, i was 100% that was a anxious attack or something like that cuz i already had this couple times in my life. I fast a lot and I've never had lemon water, so it can't be essential. It may be somewhat helpful, but certainly not essential. Fasting is the key thing and its benefits are quite numerous.
My concern, which I didn't see in the video, or yet mentioned in the comments, is, doesn't this break your fast? I love lemon water, but I don't drink it outside my eating window. Seems like it would initiate the digestion process.
Keto diet and fasting seems to be a healthier way to live,however,iI have noticed that many have got really gaunt and boney looking faces over time. Is this "look" actually something to strive towards or is there a point where the diet needs to be tweaked a bit when you start looking this way.? This is the part that always makes me curious.
When you reach your goal, go on a low carb diet. Up your carbs, but no more then 125, and exercise. Should help you maintain. Works for me. Then again, everyone is different.
Remember, ladies and gents... we will all look gaunt beyond age 50 when the muscles start to deteriorate and only half will remain by age 70. 😂 So... unless you are taking good nutrients and doing extensive muscle training, the gaunt l👀k will even be more evident. And especially, making sure your liver/kidneys/adrenals have no issues as well. Dr. Berg’s studio looks like it’s using harsh CFL/LED bulbs instead of professional incandescent photography lighting (ie. 3500 in the Kelvin range + umbrella bounce offs) - that’s one thing that could be “the problem” because... I could bet ‘ya he actually looks so good and handsome in person. 🤣😅
Dr. Berg, you use the terms “fasting” and “intermittent fasting” almost interchangeably. I am currently doing prolonged fasting, but should I be drinking lemon water when the fructose will keep me out of KETO? Can you clarify? Is the lemon water for prolonged fasting also?
One ounce of lemon juice a day will not throw you out of ketosis. Typical low carb diets allow for 25-50g carbohydrates per day. One ounce of lemon juice contains around 2g carbohydrates.
@@VitaminJ7734 if you're fermenting high mineral organic foods (kale, red cabbage, chard etc etc) it will come with alkaline minerals. Because fermenting it causes acids enough to make you dentist nervous (so always rinse mouth after) they are usually referred to as alkaline forming (they start acid then become alkaline in the body... MY OPINION from studying!!! please double check my answer

I drink lemon water every day. I started doing that after developing a kidney stone several years ago, and finding out lemon helps prevent that.

I've been starting my days with lemon water, some salt/turmeric/cinnamon, then continue to fast until the afternoon. I find that it wakes up the body and mind the moment you drink it, also empowers your fast. Try it!
How much cinammon and are you using turmeric fresh or in a powder form? Thanks...oh yeah and what type of cinammon?

@@KaRiNa-pj9sb About 1/4 tsp, turmeric in powdered form and just regular cinnamon powder. Gotta use warm water though, since the cinnamon doesn't really mix that well with cold water. It tastes pretty good too, enjoy!
@@Waltaro91 I would suggest making tea from stick cinnamon and solid turmeric root instead. Rather than swallowing powders when your body is fasting

my favorite thing to do after I wake up and get moving is get a nice glass of water and squeeze a half of lemon in it and by about mid day i do it again with the other half. It really helps me feel great.
Lemon water saved me. It removed the pain from my joints since I don’t tolerate vinegar

My daily drink is 2 tbsp brags, 1 tbsp fresh squeezed lemon from our tree, 1/2 tsp cinnamon (very good for you and it makes it taste like apple pie) top off glass with water, drink with metal straw. Sometimes I'll add freshly muddled mint leaves from our plant, and then Chew and eat the leaves at the end.👍 I'll have this about an hour after coffee, and a second one with my final meal (18:6).

Thanks Dr. Berg for this video. I drink lemon water on my day one of a prolonged fast and it makes a huge difference. I don't feel tired or confused or have stomach pain like before. This is a game changer. Hopefully I can feel this way throughout my 7 days fast.

I’ve tried starting my day with lemon water. I noticed that it too made me feel tired after a while just like fruit and simple carbs. Sometimes just eating makes me tired. 🤷🏾♀️

I have svt and struggle with fasting sometimes because my heart rate will just skyrocket. I have all of the symptoms of acidosis when this happens... thank you so much for this video I’m so hopeful it’ll iron out my keto/fasting issues!

FIRST thing you've said with which I disagree.
I was advised to add mild lemon water by several health professionals. However in under a week I developed bleeding ulcers and had to undergo two surgeries back to back in order to cauterize the bleed.
Keto had been successful for me until then but my stomach became so extremely sensitive that I had to abandon fat burning and I gained back all the weight plus.
Finally recently, almost two years later, I listened to one of your videos and began with an 8 day water fast. Keto wasn't working for me the second time until I did that.
Now, I'm keto OMAD and enjoying a reboot of my previous success.
I only stopped this FIRST successful fast of my life because you cautioned us NOT to go for more than a week.
And when I feel able I'll start another one.
Since MY misadventure with incorporating acid into my diet I've met a couple of other people who've had a similar misadventure including surgical intervention.
So I've learned that, it's not only ME, we are NOT all alike.

I'll add to that. Tried ACV, lemon and green tea. I felt nauseous for quite a few hours, two days in a row the second day I added a couple of drops of cod liver oil. Felt the same, until I drank tea with milk. That took the nauseous feeling away. I don't think it is linked to me not eating, I did it on IF. The ACV dosent agree with my tummy. Just giving my two cents. 😏
@@lillianjulius1371 I put citric acid in my green tea because I find it makes it more palatable but I think your nausea is unrelated to lemon juice. Green tea on an empty stomach causes nausea for many (myself included). I too find adding milk prevents the nausea.
Sounds like it must have been a pre-existing condition though. Drinking citrus-laced watercould not possibly caused that condition in such a short period of time, perhaps aggravated a pre-existing condition though.

The point IS that many people respond poorly to additional acid.
I've met two other people (not in a medical context where I've worked all my life) but Synchronistically who have had similar rapid responses requiring surgical interventions.

I was fasting for 56 hours when I went for a 12 km run. I suffered from feeling extremely out of breath after about 6km going up a hill. I was going slower than normal so that could not have been an explanation for the feeling of out of breath. The acidosis seems like the perfect explanation. Will do some water and lemon next time before my run under similar circumstances.
I did the same thing last week. Even developed dry heaves, today I started my hot lemon water in the morning and 8 ozs every 3 hours. Not sure if it’s placebo this early on, but I am ready for my run. It will be 26 hour fast this time and not the 48 hour fast.
My dental hygienist was concerned about my enamel. I love having lemon all the time. She said it doesn’t matter how much you have but get it done and then we all agreed with the dentist swish water wait an hour before you brush in general after you eat the enamel gets soft. I tried drinking with a straw. I didn’t find that very helpful the back my teeth still got lemon on them. Taking a shot maybe diluted anyway I’ve been trying all these things I chew xylitol gum hoping that helps just to get the acid off of my teeth.

@@omarabdullah2776 He did not mention that, for me I squeeze 2 lemons and 3 limes together, or sometimes 4 lemons only, or 4 limes only, then I put the juice in a big glass then I add a cold water. Sometimes I add a little of ACV.
You can use warm temperature water if you want or cold water from the fridge. I use cold water because it's very refreshing. Another method you can cut 3-4 lemons or 4-5 limes in slices then put them in a big glass or jar then add water then put it inside the fridge. "You can make less or more of lemons or limes together or separate it depends as you like" you can try method 1 or method 2. For me I prefer method 1 squeezing...
"Wash the lemons, limes before you do anything".

I have used ACV + fresh lemon juice for morning drink since diagnosed w fatty liver in March 2019. Together w changes in my diet, I lost 12 lbs which is 10% in 6 months and reversed my fatty liver. I have kept up w my morning drink + doing 16/8 IF on 6 days a week, and have lost another 3 pounds since.
While fasting, can i drink plain lemon water and add salt or even valentina hot salsa
Love your informative videos. I’ve been drinking the juice of half a lemon in hot water (120degrees) every morning as soon as I wake up for a couple of years now. Is it safe to drink at that temperature or which is the right temperature in order to get all it’s benefits. I also wait about an hour after I drink it to have my breakfast. Thank you and God bless

Annie Djaswadi I ‘ve been doing this for over 20 years with lukewarm water. It’s a nice refreshing drink, I rarely get a cold and my skin looks good,. No problems with kidney stones and I always recommend to others that they do this too.😊

@@Candyangel63 I may rely mainly on a ketogenic diet, but honey is one sugar I cannot remove from my diet for these reasons.. And a little goes a long way! My ancestors have been using it for years and years, and I believe in 'eating the way people did a 100 years ago'. Just like maple syrup, it had its own very unique proprieties/minerals. We could talk about honey for so long haha

i started to have all those symptoms yesterday night, i woke up on middle of night with my heart pounding and pounding, i was 100% that was a anxious attack or something like that cuz i already had this couple times in my life. But i'm drinking bunch of things that let my stomach and body more acidic (like ACV as example). Now i know why ! Thank you so much Dr.Eric ! ♥

Been wondering the same thing? Usually, during the fasting window I only drink water, just to play it safe, but lately, I've been doing an OMAD so, the fasting window is 23 hours.

I fast a lot and I've never had lemon water, so it can't be essential. It may be somewhat helpful, but certainly not essential. Fasting is the key thing and its benefits are quite numerous.
Great note! If its not essential, why risk having acid on an empty stomach. Lemons are mostly imported products from western countries.
My concern, which I didn't see in the video, or yet mentioned in the comments, is, doesn't this break your fast? I love lemon water, but I don't drink it outside my eating window. Seems like it would initiate the digestion process.

Keto diet and fasting seems to be a healthier way to live,however,iI have noticed that many have got really gaunt and boney looking faces over time. Is this "look" actually something to strive towards or is there a point where the diet needs to be tweaked a bit when you start looking this way.? This is the part that always makes me curious.
He has commented that he has to watch the way he approaches Keto because loses too much weight. Maybe he's been too strict with himself.
When you reach your goal, go on a low carb diet. Up your carbs, but no more then 125, and exercise. Should help you maintain. Works for me. Then again, everyone is different.
Remember, ladies and gents... we will all look gaunt beyond age 50 when the muscles start to deteriorate and only half will remain by age 70. 😂 So... unless you are taking good nutrients and doing extensive muscle training, the gaunt l👀k will even be more evident. And especially, making sure your liver/kidneys/adrenals have no issues as well.
Dr. Berg’s studio looks like it’s using harsh CFL/LED bulbs instead of professional incandescent photography lighting (ie. 3500 in the Kelvin range + umbrella bounce offs) - that’s one thing that could be “the problem” because... I could bet ‘ya he actually looks so good and handsome in person. 🤣😅

Dr. Berg, you use the terms “fasting” and “intermittent fasting” almost interchangeably. I am currently doing prolonged fasting, but should I be drinking lemon water when the fructose will keep me out of KETO? Can you clarify? Is the lemon water for prolonged fasting also?
One ounce of lemon juice a day will not throw you out of ketosis. Typical low carb diets allow for 25-50g carbohydrates per day. One ounce of lemon juice contains around 2g carbohydrates.
Lemons make my stomach hurt. But, when I use Limes I don't have any issues, so I just squeeze fresh limes.

Because of my obsession with fermented foods I've experienced some of the symptoms..... Definitely give the lemons a go if it happens again

@@VitaminJ7734 if you're fermenting high mineral organic foods (kale, red cabbage, chard etc etc) it will come with alkaline minerals. Because fermenting it causes acids enough to make you dentist nervous (so always rinse mouth after) they are usually referred to as alkaline forming (they start acid then become alkaline in the body... MY OPINION from studying!!! please double check my answer
