there’s a whole theory in disability communities about social disabilities, and how most “disabled” people would be fine if the world was made for them. This doesn’t work for chronic pain, but if the world was made for the Deaf of the blind or the paralyzed, the question is “would it even be considered a disability”

My boss is an app. Thats the kind of freedom I'll lose if they make us employees. And I know you all believe in a pipe dream that that won't happen. But please remember this day and mark my words. Health benefits don't come free. This is the United States of Capitalist America. They'll require us to work a certain number of hours. Then they'll start scheduling us all. Then they'll make us wear a uniform. It doesn't end. We already have Obama-care to take advantage of. Need more money? Work more hours. Thats what I do. I do not want to be anyone's employee.

I like Fetterman, but we have to admit that physical disabilities do not affect thought process, while cognitive disabilities do. Trevor's comparisons were completely off the mark on this one.
@@vincentavangogh3636 no I don’t think they were. A disability may be a slowing down of someone’s ability to process what goes on around them or express their feelings or opinions. I have long Covid and the brain fog can be like ADHD, dementia and migraines all rolled into one. Throw in the tinnitus and no one could concentrate. So don’t go judging someone’s physical and cognitive disabilities at a glance, they can vary from hour to hour. Have a nice night.

As non-native English speaker, although I have no problem communicating in English, caption really helps me fully understand what is said and gives me confidence. It’s just like a hearing aid, glasses, or a cane.
Honestly, as a native English speaker captions ARE incredibly helpful when you have garbled dialogue on TV/Internet. Regardless if it’s just to help you understand the language better, follow the story better, or anything like that - it’s a helpful tool. I hate how people try to make it seem like it’s a “tool for the disabled” in a blanket way like that. Because not all those with a disability need captions - but the point is that, why are people condemning Fetterman for this? It’s a useful and helpful tool for him. Its a reasonable accommodation IMO, and if we (the US) had tried to bar any politicians with a possible disability then we would’ve lost out on FDR - who was one of our GREATEST presidents. So I hope people support Fetterman. He’s a very real dude and I give him a lot of respect 👍
there needs to be more visibility for people with disabilities and how they are perfectly capable of working (by they I mean many)
Lawrence O'Donell pointed out that there are already two sitting senator (one younger than Fetterman) who have suffered strokes. Nobody has called for their removal, and no challengers have used that to run against them.
Many folks with disabilities do work.
A third of the US population has some form of disability. And plenty of them shouldn't have to work at all, but lots of them do.
In the banana republic of orangeland bigly (a.k.a. united states), "people with disabilities" is being used, arbitrarily, when it's convenient: "he's not fit for office, he's disabled"; "we can't pay them disability insurance, they are perfectly fit to do any job".
As a quick reminder, the Nazis went after disabled people first. They then expanded that program to exterminate other "undesirable" elements in society.
On the gig economy note, when the newslady says those companies "rely on" contract workers, she means exploit shamelessly.

As an adjunct contract community college teacher, I would like those benefits too. As it is I teach full time but pay my own insurance and have no retirement. This is true for many community college teachers.

As someone who's worked in the restaurant industry and almost became an Uber driver I noticed immediately the lack of benefits. I then wondered why anyone would even bother trying to get a job with them when the chances of them making any money are so slim. Especially with gas prices and the fact that if you get into an accident it's your insurance that has to pay for it.
Um.....you wanted to go from employee to contract work and wondered where the benefits were? They're back at your employee job. I often wonder why anyone goes into being a waiter for exactly what you wrote about the gig industry. You legally can't even expect to make minimum wage. Except different gigs pay different amounts, so just don't settle. My gig jobs pay far better than my 40 hour a week job that required a college degree. When you are on the clock, you are covered under their insurance which you may not want because of the deductible. Reclassifying us as employees will be what destroys the ability to make money. I far prefer working 3 shifts back to back for 2 days and taking the rest of the week off. Also, this is a capitalist country. Make them pay more for workers by not being available unless they pay more. It works. I won't go out for less than $25/hr.

Aural processing was defined for me when I was working in Special Education as the time required to take the information on board & formulate a reply/response. It's improvable! It's like toning a muscle to activate new neural paths.
