Whole divisions of Egyptians lost their nerve and abandoned all their tanks and vehicles and tried to walk back to Egypt only to be taken prisoner by the tens of thousands or machine gunned by their own people when they tried to cross back into Egypt.

They can fight. They have killed thousands of Americans recently. If you denigrate the ability of the Arabs as warriors, you are denigrating Americans who died in the wars in the Middle East.
Yes, they were hobbled by corrupt leaders and systems. But, they are as brave and skilled and as tough as anyone else.

This was classic, Gamel Abdel Nasser the leader of the Arab World fell for the old vice of believing your own propaganda. He thought with all their new Soviet weapons, the Arab were invincible. Only to have Israel hand him is ass on a plate! One of the greatest victories against the odds in all history.

To a point, this is true. Like the battle of Kursk, the Germans knocked out Russian tanks 6-1, yet they lost. Better trained crews, equal or better tanks; but top-tier leadership and time did not go the way of Germany. Israel had an audacious but achievable goal, they aggressively pursued it, exploited advantages, and ultimately obtained it.

@@davidwestfall4336 I didn’t say anything against that. What I commented upon was the narrative driven here that they had inferior tanks when this was clearly not the case. Further they suggest the L7 was an Israeli upgrade to the centurion which is not true when it was the de facto armament for the later centurions and a wide range of tanks, being std nato armament into the 80s. So you are correct but the narrative is overblown detracting from what you say. I think I am correct in saying that in every single conflict the centurion outfought the T54/55 and the later T62.

With Soviet equipment comes Soviet doctrine. That was a big part of the problem. Another is crew training, it takes time and money to train a good tanker. And if the tanks are roughly comparable then training is key.

When you put armor in static defensive positions, you lose the advantage of mobility, & maneuver is the rimary advantage of armor. Perhaps the arab commanders understood their crews were not trained to high standards. The "maneuver " through an "impassable" location gave the Israeli division the element of both surprise combined with manuever. They used their tanks according to armor doctrine.

Just like today, anybody who underrates Israel is going to be in for a surprise! In 1947-48, they survived with some surplus German BF109s and later some US B17s smuggled in as passenger planes through a cooperative US businessman. A tactic they used again to bomb Egypt. The Egyptians didn't know Israel had any bombers, so the B17s flew over Egypt as passenger planes. Egypt only found out they were bombers when the bombs dropped. Israel survived despite overwhelming odds! Despite US and British blockades of Israel no help.

As an Israeli (I watched only the start of this "documentary"). There are lots of false facts, and propaganda. For example, the airstrike operation wasn't planned for 10 years, only about 3 weeks. Also, what started the war was the Egyptians closing the Suez canal for Israeli shipping. Which meant (at that time) the end of Israel.

The Israeli's were smart by attacking first because if they didn't the Egyptians would have (or that's what the intelligence predicted) and by attacking first they could gain a tactical advantage, among others in the air. If it was Israel's goal of occupying the Sinai then why didn't they keep it but retreated instead in exchange for an enduring peace deal? The Israeli's simply want to live in peace in Israel and don't (constantly) want to have the threat of being annihilated. If you were a small country if you were smart you probably also weren't going to wait for a big country like Egypt take the initiative against you.
