There was a previous tairtary agreement amongst the US, the deep authority of Israel 🇮🇱 ,and the Saddat regime ..saina peninsula returned to Egypt by two phases 1- military show ( barlef line penetration,2- diplomatic negotiation (Israel recognition by Egypt) ..Israel regained fate of War after 3 days of Barlef line destruction.

Bottom line, Egypt got the Sinai back - I don't get how militarily they EVER claim victory however. Shoe on the other foot I can only imagine how Egypt would have treated an encircled entire Israeli army

The War did not convince Israel that the best answer to the "situation with Egypt" was to make peace. Israel has been trying to make peace with Egypt and the other Arab countries since the country was founded in 1948. It is the Arabs that have pursued a policy of war.

It appears that if Islamic forces dont have 10-1 and complete surprise, they don't do very well at all against Israel. So badly in fact, that its a bit embarrassing. If it's Islamic neighbors could fight with any equal level of skill and wit, then Israel wouldn't exist by now. Luckily that is not the case. Wondering why there are no interviews with Egyptian soldiers or tankers? Too grumpy to talk about it, or just all dead? :) Also, they keep saying elite Egyptian Brigade, I can only assume that is in comparison to their own forces, because there performance is not very elite at all compared to the Israelis. Can you imagine the small mercy the Muslims would have given the Israelis if they had surrounded them? None. Lucky for them, their foes God teaches them mercy.

That is far FAR from being the "greatest" tank battle, that is reserved only for WWII, mostly Germany versus the reds.

There’s a fair amount of misinformation here. At the onset of hostilities, a very large part of the Israeli Army was on leave for the Yom Kippur holy days, a mistake on their part. Before the fighting had ended, the Syrians in the north had lost 5,000 tanks, more than existed in the U.S. Army inventory worldwide, in addition to Egyptian losses in the west. It was during this conflict (watched from at distance - HQ USAREUR in Heidelberg) that I realized that the day of the tank was over. Any infantryman could take out a tank. The Armor school reeled at the implications but within six months were preaching tank supremacy once again. Russia has lost more than 6,000 tanks in Ukraine during the past two years, mostly in non tank-against-tank operations. When will they ever learn?

@@stianby Were you there? I was. Being a career Army Military Intelligence Officer I got a front row seat to our various conflicts (three tours in Germany, two in Korea). The Middle East was in USAREUR’s Area of Interest so it got watched closely. I was on duty in Germany when both Nasser (USAREUR) and Sadat (USEUCOM) died, events which caused no end of speculation. You claim I talk mostly bullshit. How so? During the October War, one of my colleagues was an Armor Branch Foreign Area Officer and we talked about armor vulnerabilities - remember, more Syrian tanks were destroyed than existed in the U.S. worldwide inventory. Six months was all it took for the Armor School to twist the narrative from extreme vulnerability to “the best defense against a tank is another tank”. Once again, in Ukraine, we are being shown the folly of the supremacy of armor on the modern battlefield - Russia has lost more Main Battle Tanks and Infantry Fighting Vehicles than we own, more than twice over. One other grand folly of ours is our love of aircraft carriers (CVN - Carrier Air Vehicle Nuclear). During a tour at HQ NSA I learned to consider them LSD (Large Sitting Duck) instead. Both Main Battle Tanks and aircraft carriers are awesome platforms capable of immense destruction … when no one is shooting back. The Marine Corps has divested itself of all its MBT’s, for very good reasons. They are extremely heavy (only two can be lifted by a C-5A), easily destroyed, and can be equaled in firepower by lighter, less expensive Infantry weapons. The same is true for the world’s air forces - ask Russia how many SU-25, SU-34, and KA-52 ground attack vehicles they’ve lost to Ukrainian fire. The numbers are staggering and non-sustainable. Warfare is changing faster than military planners can keep up (or even want to). One of our pet complaints while on active duty was that we always seemed to prepare for the last war we fought, not the next one. You might want to consult with the French about the efficacy of the Maginot Line (would have been handy in WWI but was easily bypassed in WWII). Same thing. One of the most annoying phrases I heard repeatedly as a Lieutenant in Heidelberg (HQ USAREUR) was “the way we did it in VietNam” being uttered by those who had been there. Of course, VietNam was not the central plains of Europe, where the Soviets in East Germany alone had (you should have guessed this by now) more MBT’s than we had in our worldwide inventory. The philosopher Santayana is renowned for having uttered “Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it”. My statements have contained opinions generously laced with hard won facts, but that’s not what you claimed in your brief response. Now, if you would be so kind, please lay out your bone fides for calling my statements mostly bullshit. Were you there? Anywhere?
