Best version I've EVER heard. The soloists are perfect, the choir perfectly balanced I can tell apart every single voice part, the diction, the dynamic: It's just magnificent!!!!
I can listen to this all day long. It's 3 am and I'm listening again. Wonderful music, fabulous performance. They should make this into a CD - I can't find one of this performance.
Really outstanding. It's th moment when you realise that Haydn in his own way was the equal of Mozart or Beethoven, if not their master. He took music so far and in so many ways. Astonishingly beautiful!
@@alleespach As the author of the Versuch - his manual on modern keyboard playing - I suppose you could label Emanuel Bach the father of that, but that’s about it. The ‘father of…’ this that and the other really is unhelpful, and generally speaking is very misleading as in most cases - like Haydn and the symphony - in court, it would be a clear case of false paternity.

This masterpiece was composed by Haydn at the end of his live. It is a fantastic harmony and a sublime sensitivity. The voices of the soloists are fantastic. The choir and the orchestra are superb. Viva Haydn and his wonderful music that influenced for good the greatest composers that ever existed (Mozart, Bach, etc) and who were his contemporaries.This version of Creation is one of the best I’ve heard so far.
@@orialijulian Bach died in 1750, when Haydn was 18 years old. Mozart on the other hand was born in 1756, and died 18 years before Haydn in 1791, so Haydn was technically a contemporary of both.

The description of the creation so vivid so when God said there be light by his divine fiat - a word the light was there. they could envisage a bright light shining. When he created the sun, the moon the stars, and all the endless galaxy and stary sky arose before my eyes. When Haydn phrased in word and music the creation of the animals I could see - envisage the birds flying high to the heavens, the fish teeming in the sea the small to the big and on earth animals of all kind frolicking on the earth this reminded me of the hilarious Jamie Uys's film the beautiful people.' The creation of Adam was so beautiful and he created Adam in his image he created him. The description of Eve taken out of the rib of Adam was tender Then on the seventh day, the day of the Lord, Go rested I could envisage God relaxing after his momentous work of the creation The orchestra, the choir, the bass-baritone, the sopranos rendition of the crescendo of Haudns Schöpfung was great. Incredibly, it is possible to prefer this wonderful version to Bernstein's for sheer joy. However brilliant Bernstein, he was reaching the end of his brilliance; it's also true that the performance at the Fall of the Wall remained, so wonderful. Still Fischer's version is magical, the bass-baritone, tenor, and soprano, as well as the chorus, so fresh, the conductor wonderful.
I prefer Bernstein with the Bavarian orchestra, Moll, Blegen and Kollo. His tempi were quick when appropriate. Fischer plays the thing as if he can't wait for it to be over.
A stunning performance, absolutely stunning! The technical recording was excellent: if you look where the microphones were placed you can see that the recording engineers did a fantastic job of getting it right.

There may be some who will criticise Fisher's Tempi, but I see the work as a celebration and not a requiem. The performance is also a celebration and I'm wowed by Thomas Quasthoff, especially in the deep low notes. Brilliant!

The Creation was written and performed in and for Vienna using an English libretto intended for Handel that was translated into German by Baron van Swieten; it had nothing to do with Eszterhaza. In fact Haydn came to view Eszterhaza as a prison; after the death ofPrince Nicholas in September 1790, Haydn grabbed a few things and fled the palace as soon as he could; he never returned. Eszterhaza was hugely important to Haydn between 1761 and 1790; outside those years, it was not, and The Creation dates from 1797/98.

Wonderful performance of 'The creation' by FJ HAYDN. Even better, performed in a Palace where music was king in his time. Of all the places on a musicians bucket list to visit, you will find this Palace & Hall. Oh to be a historic fly on the wall when this was performed, would be great. Oh, a side note. It was when Haydn was released from his duties here, that he was persuaded to come to London for a concert season. Strangely against, his former pupil, friend & well known composer (known to all musicians), Ignace Joseph Pleyel. Therefore composing the 12 London symphonies. During these visits Haydn was looking for a musical challenge, heard a Handel oratorio, the rest as they say is history. When Haydn did look for a subject to compose he found all the good stories had been done. So God bless the man who suggested "Why don't you start at the beginning?". Henceforth 'The creation' was created. Once again. Congratulations to the maestro, leader, soloists, principles, musicians & Choristers for an amazing performance, especially on authentic period instruments. Music truly is the world's greatest language. 🎼🎵🎶🇬🇧
Even though I find Thomas Quashoff physically repulsive, I cannot help but admit he is the best bass-baritone with a recording of die schöpfung. His performance of Rollend in schäumenden Wellen is nigh impossible to match. While another, more handsome baritone by the name of André Morsch gets close, he can never beat the best. Bravo!

When it's done this well, it's easy to forget how difficult this is and how many performances are far less sublime. This brings *the greatness of Haydn to life* for us - especially through the inimitable *bass-baritone perfection of Thomas Quasthoff*. Simply amazing! Thank you!
@simon n Haydn wrote this piece with the intention specifically that it was accessible to both German and English speakers. He would have preferred for the audience to have the translation available. Try being a snob when you actually know what you're talking about.

Also, the famous final public appearance of Haydn in 1808* was a public performance attended by Beethoven and conducted by Salieri, but was actually given in Italian. The Italian translation appeared soon after publication, as did the French and others, including less obvious languages like Swedish. * There is a well-known painting of this performance by Wigand - it features the aged Haydn sat in the centre surrounded by admirers (including Beethoven), and this image invariably appears on cd covers or booklets.

You’re quite correct.
Also, the famous final public appearance of Haydn in 1808* was a public performance attended by Beethoven and conducted by Salieri, but was actually given in Italian.
The Italian translation appeared soon after publication, as did the French and others, including less obvious languages like Swedish.
* There is a well-known painting of this performance by Wigand - it features the aged Haydn sat in the centre surrounded by admirers (including Beethoven), and this image invariably appears on cd covers or booklets.
