    I have a '96 Mooney M20J with a Garmin 530 integrated to the factory KAP 150 autopilot and HSI. I've been very happy with the set up and the autopilot has functioned perfectly (knock on wood) in the two years/200hours I've had the airplane. I like the fact that by merely turning on the autopilot, the airplane's pitch and roll attitudes are "frozen" in place. Very handy on climb out while you get things sorted.

    Very good video Rich as usual.
    Just one thing that would be nice for the other videos. It would be great if someone could film the take-off from the hangars, just to appreciate the magnificent sound of the Bonanza. That would be great.

    Love these equipment functionality short vids you do for GA, and perfomance, like the inflight Cirrus and Bonanza video.
    They are so rich in useful info for GA pilots and get to the point, with pro audio and visual.
    So good. As always, thanks for taking the time to produce and share.

    I have the same set up in the F33a, but with just the 430w. Is the integration the same or not possible with the 430w? I haven't installed the display yet but looking to go with Dynon 10" and the D30 as backup. Great video!

    Great video. I have a KFC200 along with a GTN750 and Aspen Pro Max PFD in my 1998 Commander 114B. A few years ago when I upgraded my panel with the GTN750 and Aspen PFD the GFC500 was not STCd for my airplane. Neither was any Garmin PFD. My KFC200 works great, but I do wish that I had Vertical Speen hold available. I do have altitude hold, but not VS hold. Other than that, it works great - definitely not going to replace the KFC200 until it craters for good.

    I had the S-TEC 50 in my S35 and had to select HDG for it to navigate via GPSS from the Aspen Pro Max 2000 with the GTN750 and 430. If I had kept the plane, I would have upgrade to a digital A/P..

      I use an NFlightCam Exterior Ball Head Mount on the wing by removing a screw from a panel and replacing it with the mount. On the bottom tug, I use a MyPilotPro GoPro Airplane Mount to clamp a camera on. I always have both of these checked by our mechanics to ensure they are sturdy and properly placed. Thanks for watching! - Matteo

    The random configuration of legacy and solid state avionics in the fleet makes it really dangerous to be a renter. I currently rent from an FBO with two identical airplanes except for their autopilots, one being a Garmin 500 and the other a King 140. The King unit is connected to servos on the elevator trim, the Garmin is not and I had to learn this by surprise. All I'm saying is regardless what hardware you see in the panel, make sure you verify how it has been configured. This is no place for assumptions.

    Taking delivery of 1980 A36 with IO520. Has legacy king avionics with GTN 750 and kfc 200 autopilot. Assume autopilot worked like this, would you do dual g5 and gfc 500 or g500nxi and keep legacy AP. Money is about the same for each option. Great timely video.

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  Год назад

      Tough question. KFC 200 is a great AP but getting a little to old. My concern about keeping the 200 AP would be putting money into it to keep it in good operational condition. I think I would go with GFC 500 and the G5. Maybe upgrade to the TXI from there later.

    • @SigmaDG
      @SigmaDG Год назад +1

      @@FlyingwithRich Appreciate the experience and feedback. Was tending to lean this way and this comment, coupled with some recent logbook MX entries are pushing it that way. Will probably upgrade the plane before the panel again though! Keep the great content coming.

    • @FlyingwithRich

      Honestly never seen a 225 AP with upgraded avionics Garmin primary flight display and GPS. Since it is a later version AP from King, I assume it would integrate.

      Like a lot of things in general aviation, a lot depends on the pilot. I flew with the owner of this airplane last week. He’s training to make sure he has good command of the autopilot and its limitations so when that is the attitude, I feel good about it.

  • @jp4163
    @jp4163 4 месяца назад

    That plane is screaming for a GFC500 autopilot. That auto pilot has no interoperability with the new Garmin stack. Can that old autopilot even receive the Garmin's RNAV, ILS and approach instructions??? Its like using a VW bug intelligence to drive a Porsche.

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  4 месяца назад

      AP works quite well with Garmin components. Your statement, “…has no interoperability with the new Garmin stack,” is incorrect. The AP will receive NAV/LOC/GPSS/VS/VNAV/ALT (to name a few) functions from Garmin and from my perspective is well integrated. Thanks for watching!
