Greetings from Scotland! I was 18yo, planning my wedding in early 1973. I remember the incident of the fire and I remember thinking "What sort of plonker fires a flare gun in a place like that!" 😂😂 Anyway, that guitar rift is probably one of the most iconic rifts ever! But I'm sure you've played that more than once yourself right? Little did I know that 10 years later I would be standing in Montreux right where it happened - and getting paid for it! (I drove European Tour Coaches for a few years then). Just as a side note, the lake referred to as "Lake Geneva" (that always upsets the residents around the shores) is actually named "Lac Léman" - purely for educational purposes! 😂😂 (And because I was sternly told off by a local for calling it Lake Geneva!) The title of course came from the sight of the thick smoke hanging over the lake in the still, cold air after the fire. Great music!!
