Blackmore is a legend of guitar. No one can play like him with his unique style. Child in time solo, but not only that, is a masterpiece in world music.
It's 2020 and Ritchie Blackmore is still incomparable. Never understood why he didn't get the same recognition as Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and a few others.
He chose the life he is living. He is happy. He is not into media. I do not think he is underrated. Every rock guitar player thinks about him once a day. That is a recognition itself.
Ritchie is the best out there because his compositions were great always telling a story and always catching your feelings not just throwing in a solo just to impress with his skills like others. And also his solos were so many and so different in all his career not just one or two songs!
Well said, i am surprised there are people (two only) in this comment section saying that his solos were all blues and weren't varied, the man was a proto-shredder, he played some bluesy solos, more exotic solos like Gates of Babylon and Stargazer, used slides, used tremolo picking, used the whammy bar, he also knew slowing down and playing melodically. Well said, it's one of the biggest reasons why i like RB.
Ian Anderson said Ritchie's Genius was understanding the importance of the silence in between the notes. Very true. He could be both incredibly clean and incredibly dirty but on purpose.
Ritchie Blackmore is arguably the greatest rock guitarist of all time and there is no debate on it! His soaring guitar solos are so catchy, melodious and intricate that they leave the audience stunned! That's the hallmark of a genius!
he is considered one of the greatest by those of us that know, just like alex lifeson- underrated.... but Ritchie has always said he doesn't care what the suits say. the nusicians themselves know...
Live in Japan is honestly 1 of my favorite live albums other than Frampton comes alive but the call and response part of strange kind of women will forever be 1 of the most bad ass things I’ve ever heard..song gets me every time I listen to it haha...
Always my favorite guitarist. His playing is angry & violent yet melodic and soulful & always interesting. Also, his solos fit into the song and compliment it rather than being thrown in during a break.
Keep in mind that in 68, 69, 70 nobody was playing guitar like Blackmore. Wring that neck, child in time...he was shredding before there was shredding. I love Hendrix but Jimi didn't play this style of guitar.
Ritchie's playing live is legend. Made in Japan captured the fire and ferocity of what he's about perfectly. Space Truckin, Lazy, Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, Strange kind of Woman, Child in Time.OMG awesome!!!
Ritchie for me will always be number 1. He’s has and still does inspire people and he still writes beautiful music. I always laugh when people talk about speed as if that’s the measure of a great guitarist. So many of the guitarist that play fast don’t have accuracy. I’ve slowed down these guitarist and the amount of wrong notes and miss timings is unbelievable but their speed hides it. Ritchie is one of if not the most accurate guitarist ever. He’s also the most instinctive guitarist I’ve ever heard. His impro is a testimony to that.
All musicians who really play an instrument agree that slow parts are the most difficult, because every error can be heard even by ... like me, eg listen to the Albinoni's adagio by Maurice André..
As you know Ritchie was the original speed guitarist but he was clean. Ian Anderson nailed it on the head. It is Ritchie understood the importance of the silence in between the notes. Ritchie is still searching for those perfect notes. In his search he has put out more original music than anyone else in the business. He is pushing 60 years of creativity and all the old bands that are still together play their songs from their Era. Ritchie is still playing and creating. I watch His and Candace's first Pod Cast a couple of weeks ago of them at home during the Corona Pandemic Shutdown. Richie was pretty much shit faced. Probably the only reason Candace got him to do it. Ritchie half drunk was playing beautifully left handed. A viewer asked while Candace read the question. The question was why was Ritchie playing left handed. Ritchie said it was because he was drinking. The man was funny. I am happy for Ritchie. He has a lady that loves him no matter what Ritchie wakes up in the morning or afternoon. They keep each other entertained and I love Blackmore's Night. Some of his Acoustical Work is mind boggling. I think Candace will be with Ritchie as long as his liver last. I enjoyed your comment.
Gaz Pyrotechnics wrong notes are part of playing fast, there are no ‘wrong notes’ It’s about ending your phrase on a note that feels like ‘home’. Listen to Jan Akkerman, he does this all the time... (focus hocus pocus, streetwalker)
Ritchie Blackmore's style is underappreciated and STILL underrated in my opinion. His solos are awesome but so are his riffs and particularly his melodies. His innovation is superb. The Highway Star solo, although overdubbed, is in THIRDS. What other guitar solo in any genre is done in THIRDS! I'd like to suggest "Man on the Silver Mountain" Solo for honorable mention. I agree with everything else on the list.
I have been listening to Ritchie since I was about 10 and to this day "Long Live Rock N Roll" and "Rising" are my favorite albums. I bought "Long Live Rock N Roll" in 78' and have been totally hooked !!!
Saw DEEP PURPLE play PERTH in 72 at aquatic centre on the bill with DP was FREE awesome show. Seeing kids jumping in water when they played SMOKE ON THE WATER I'll never forget it my age at the time was 32 too old to jump in I'm 79years old and still loving this music till the day I die 😎😎😎FROM AUSTRALIA....
I saw Purple in Auckland in 1975 , with Tommy Bolin . Great show . My brother saw Purple in Sydney in I think '85 with Blackmore Gillan and Rog . I was pissed off , I had to work that night . Take care Justin . I live in NSW . The pubs are open tomorrow ! I'll be able to have a few beers with my mates next weekend . Cheers from NSW .
A sublime player. The best player takes not only you, but him away to a different place. He did that a lot. He surrounded himself with really excellent musicians- Jon, Cozy, Ronnie- the blending of their talent and his other worldliness produced some stunning performances. Notoriously difficult to work with, a complex human being, but wow. On his day........
I always loved his Turkish riffs! Ooooo that Gates Of Babylon, Stargazer, Catch The Rainbow solos blow me away!!! He was my inspiration to be a guitarist myself.
Brilliant brilliant guitar player, sweep picking, eastern and classical scales before the wannabees in the 80,s. Without being colloquial ,there was a certain resonance with European guitar players like Ritchie,Roth,Shenker,Malmsteen which i think belongs to the music they were surrounded by growing, both melodic pop and classical, eastern European overtones. American guitar players were primarily brought up from the blues hence the penatonic and primarily western scales, equally important but VERY different. Richie was way way ahead of his time and was by far the most articulate guitar player of the the English new wave, despite Page being my favorite due to Zeppelin having the best vehicle for songwriting. However in my top ten guitar solos Richie is number one,i could never imagine anyone else coming up with the solos from Stargazer,Babylon,Highway et yet i could easily imagine Blackmore emulating and creating context solos from Clapton Beck and Page. Very special talent and underestimated, sorry just a long winded opinion!!!
David Stone tells the story of making that song, he wrote the middle section and Ritchie found it hard to improvise over it at first, and they had like six takes to finish the solo.
Ritchie Blackmore is the best guitarist ever This guy can capture the mood of the whole song in a solo .. listen to Gates of Babylon to figure out what I'm talking about Top guitarists displayed here and there are from people that know nothing GET VOTING AFTER HEARING HIM OUT!
Ritchie was a true pioneer of heavy music. The professor of guitar. A true musician in all of rock and music in general, just a complete package. He paved the way for many, just a true professional. A king for dam sure.🎸🤘🎶🎵😉
The greatest rock guitar player of all time imho. His body of work is so diverse and interesting that if there was one guitarist's body of work that I had to listen to everyday it would be Ritchie Blackmore's. Interestingly he confirmed in an interview that a lot of is melodic influences he got from eastern European music which he listened to through short waive radio. Mix that with neo classical and blues well than you've got something very spicy call RB style. Thank you so much for your music.
I love Blackmore but objectively Jimmy page was more diverse. He had folk, blues, hard rock, Celtic influence (over the hills and far away), middle eastern (Black mountain slide and white summer live performances and Kashmir ), classical (no quarter) , rockabilly (boogie with Stu, rock and roll) and probably more I can't think of
Yes because Page didnt have the technique and chops Ritchie Blackmore and Eddie Van Halen had... Having said that i think Page wrote more hits then they did...
When I was young playing in rock bands I used to try to play as many "Purple" numbers as possible because I adored Ritchie's playing. I haven't listened to him for a long time and this vid reminds me of what a genius he was (is) Brilliant phrasing with melody and speed. Thanks for posting
I don't know of any other guitar player, blues, jazz, rock, country, who came up with so many great n very recognisable solos as Ritchie Blackmore has done, close to 2dozen, n solos with a hook in them, that you could actually sing or hum to. A True Soloist, way out in front by a country mile, it really is Ritchie Blackmore 1st Daylight 2nd.
Great guitar solos! Ritchie Blackmore has made so many excellent solos so the best impossible to name. One of my favorite is Richie and Jon competitive solo from Deep Purple Mark 1 era: Painter / Fault line... Richie was 23 and Jon 27 making marvelous music. So seldom anybody notice that era. But all these were suberb! Thank you for letting me hear these again.
Thank you Ritchie Blackmore for the decades of much of the best GUITAR playing ever played and written, for the immense talent, years of practice, and for giving us much less talented musicians something and someone to aspire to.
there was not one live track added to this awesome collection. Made in Japan offers "Highway Star", "Child in Time", "Strange Kind of Woman", "Lazy" and "Space Trucking" as possibly the best ever guitars solos by anyone one the planet....EVER!!! All of these tracks listen are studio recordings and as brilliant as they are they are not a patch on a live performance where not even one not is dropped. It just shows the competence and skill of such a talented artist as Ritchie Blackmore.
Just do yourself a favour and don't bother with Perfect Strangers. there are a few solos on there where i feel he just can't be bothered and failed to rehearse let alone show up. Still a good album though
@Chris Manzi Spot on. I saw LZ, and Page was terrible. Ritchie, I have seen countless times. He is brilliant and even when he is having an off night, he is better than most. Ritchie has done things that I have not seen other guitarists come close to doing, and that includes many of the so called shredders.
Legendary player. One of the last of the truly great, large than life,70's musos.the guitar tone itself is to die for.As Steve Lukather put it "Ritchie Blackmore was such an advanced musician.Way ahead of his time."
"Deep Purple in Rock" вышел в далеком 1970 году.
Ritchie is phenomenal, the solo from speed king is unbeatable, deep purple, had the best of the best on vocals guitar, drums, base and let's not forget the king of the keyboards, no one even came close, very few bands have the best of the best, led Zep Queen , to name a few, great song after song, when I first heard machine head at a friend's house I swapped pile-driver by Status quo that I had just bought.
He always had a beautiful, mellifluous tone and that idiosyncratic tremolo was irresistible (the vibrato arm used at its sweetest). His note choice was always thoughtful and his structured, harmonic ideas really worked well. Not the fastest or flashiest, but for me, the most gifted and interesting musical thinker of his genre. A towering figure in the rock guitar world.
Vieja... quedate piola y no hace falta rescatarse...
Don Wifey said it best. Ritchie had the best tone of any guitarist he'd ever played with. It should be noted that Airey has played with virtually all the greats.
For me Child in Time is one of the greatest pieces of music ever recorded. Superb band with stunning guitar work complemented by Jon Lord's Hammond organ, Ian Paice on drums, Roger Glover on bass and the vocals of Ian Gillan. What more can one say?
@Marco von Catfish I think maybe Highway Star solo is his most iconic solo.Just because people have been able learn and play that solo, doesn't make it less great.Ritchie wrote that solo and it is the one solo he doesn't really improvise on.
Blackmore's guitar is sometimes really insane. 90% of his guitar plays in live performance is just normal or failure of experiments, but 10% is far beyond other guys in this planet.

Dont take away what others did. Ritchie is simply underrated.
@@theyawn1889 I don't want to take away what others did, I love those others guitar players. I just don't get why blackmore is underated.
@@gustavonobregadossantos1223 Me too, he is a genius but i dont understand
He chose the life he is living. He is happy. He is not into media. I do not think he is underrated. Every rock guitar player thinks about him once a day. That is a recognition itself.
In Ritchie we trust
Garcia is the best storyteller.

Ritchie Blackmore is arguably the greatest rock guitarist of all time and there is no debate on it!
His soaring guitar solos are so catchy, melodious and intricate that they leave the audience stunned!
That's the hallmark of a genius!
Technique, inventiveness, passion , musicality and lyricism and all with poise yet so uniquely expressive !
Ritchie is a very underrated guitarist. He deserves to be known as one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
Agreed.🤘🎸🎶🎵
I think he already is by those who know anything about guitar

Underrated? Says who?
He is Him! Period.
he is considered one of the greatest by those of us that know, just like alex lifeson- underrated.... but Ritchie has always said he doesn't care what the suits say. the nusicians themselves know...
Blackmore is a great guitarist and listening to this I realize that he was playing things that the other greats of his time couldn’t touch.
when you are right you are dam right!!
Page said verbatim, "When it comes to a solo, I cannot touch him"..

Exactly!

Made in Japan, awesome and what a great concept. Love it!
Amen.
John petrucci, Guthrie govan?
Gaz Pyrotechnics wrong notes are part of playing fast, there are no ‘wrong notes’

Ten Years Gone
Is there any player who can cover his style well?
I have been listening to Ritchie since I was about 10 and to this day "Long Live Rock N Roll" and "Rising" are my favorite albums. I bought "Long Live Rock N Roll" in 78' and have been totally hooked !!!

I always loved his Turkish riffs! Ooooo that Gates Of Babylon, Stargazer, Catch The Rainbow solos blow me away!!! He was my inspiration to be a guitarist myself.
Where the heck did you find out that these riffs are Turkish?
@koalacharlie9066 I would say that phrygian dominant scale gives some Arabian vibes than turkish .
@@Soupia16 I agree.
The chord changes in Gates of Babylon are astonishing. And to be able to solo over that...
Yes, really maestral
And he improvised it. I dont think he sat down to work solos out. Gates of Babylon solo is ridiculous.
David Stone tells the story of making that song, he wrote the middle section and Ritchie found it hard to improvise over it at first, and they had like six takes to finish the solo.
Ritchie Blackmore is the best guitarist ever
This guy can capture the mood of the whole song in a solo .. listen to Gates of Babylon to figure out what I'm talking about
