- Mick's detailed review of the new Inkbird IBBQ-4T WIFI thermometer.
Huge improvement in the App, remote monitoring works great and hardware seems rock solid.

Thank you for the key information at 7:30 where you mentioned how this can be connected to the wifi at home, but your device can be any where in the world and see what your temperature probes are reading. This is what I needed to know and it wasn’t easy to learn from other reviews.

Great video, really informative and thorough!
EXCELLENT video! This was very helpful in setting up my IBBQ-4T. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
@1:46 the chipmunks would like to speak to you about your crowded house covers
Wasn't gonna buy until I seen your video. I couldn't find a how to video of the high/low functions (smoke range) or anything in the manual about setting low alarms/high alarms etc. the custom ranges and smoke profiles would be the entire reason I'd get it. Thanks for the informative video sir.
To be honest I have learnt more about how to use the Inkbird since doing the review and so yes you can set Custom alarms with max-min temperature ranges. It is also possible to just click in the box and enter the value rather than trying to use the fiddly wheel.
Great video breakdown, thanks for sharing
My pleasure mate - thanks for the comment.
Great run through. Super clear
Thanks mate.
Great video. Instead of using the dial to adjust the temp, you can also tap the temperature, and enter using the on-screen keyboard.
Ahhh life saver thanks mate I didn't know that! That was my main frustration with the interface.
so smart is the design! looks also not tough to handle, I will definitely have a try. looking forward to an amazing experience.
One the high and low alarm does your phone also beep at you as well if the temp goes outside your range?
Awesome review mate... the rain just killed my inkbird 6 and am looking for a unit that does same but more... thanks Cobber..🥰😎
Pleasure mate!

I’m trying to set the ibbq-4t up and it’s not at all recognising the wifi even when the unit is camped on top of the wifi unit...
Not totally happy with this as I’ve got 2 briskets ready to cook...🙃
If you have any ideas I’d be grateful..
🥰😎
I am trying to monitor (and graph) the temperature in 3 places in the cooling system of my car. I firstly bought the bluetooth version of this device, which was quite good, but I couldn't download the temperature data. I then bought the IBBQ-4T and fitted it to the car. I've been able to download data captured while the car is within range of my home Wi-Fi network (i.e. in the garage), but when I drive the car of course I'm out of range of that network and whilst my phone (iPhone 14) works OK away from home, the IBBQ-4T goes offline and I am unable to capture the data I really want.
I suspect I haven't configured the settings on my phone correctly. I'd appreciate help to rectify this.
I've had it for a while and far as I see it, it's great to use, but also I would love if it also connected via Bluetooth. I'm out and about a lot and it's a pain to always have to reconnect this thing with a local wifi network
Great review! Just bought a rectec and their notifications don't work, looks like they should buy one of these and reverse engineer it!
Great video. This makes me feel more comfortable looking at this model now. May i ask if there is a coupon code to add, when i process the order through the link provided?
If in Australia please just order on our website: zgrills.com.au/product/inkbird-ibbq-4t-wifi-thermometer/
Great video, all the the probes can be used for meat temp or ambient grill temp?
It is purpose designed to monitor food internal temp - hence having all the different meat settings in the alarms etc. So yes ambient, grill area and food temps.
Can it be attached (with magnets) to the Weber Original Kettle charcoal grill lid? Doesn’t break due to high temperature?
It is plastic body so definitely will melt if on the grill body. So just stick it to an area of the hopper or next to controller that doesn't get hot. The cables are quite long so give you plenty of flexibility in where to put it.
Hi Mick, Just purchased one of these units after seeing your review and I'm having trouble connecting to my android 10 phone. I have been through the instructions but I'm obviously missing something, any ideas?
Hi Paul - make sure the phone and Inkbird are close to your WIFI router and your phone is connected to the 2.4GHz network and not 5GHz. also check the FAQ section of the manual which has more information about connectivity. If you are still having issues I suggest you reach out to the Inkbird facbook page see if they have further suggestions. facebook.com/groups/641771932858427/
Is it possible to see two probes in one graph together? E.g. the probe of the ambient and the probe of the meat? Combining two lines in one single graph makes it possible to see effect of changing ambient temperature on the meat temperature. Thanks for your reply!
Yes - in the graph view click on ALL to view all the temperatures in the same view.
Do you leave the color rubber on the probes? Won’t it melt in the grill and and how do you slide them off of the probe and on the wire of that is how they are meant to be?
Hey mate, it's actually high temp silicon and not rubber. So it's not something to worry about
Can I see the temperatures of all probes on one graph in the app?
Yes you can, once in the graph view for any of the probes, there is a ALL button which will display them all together.
How does the rubber coating on the probes go inside of the BBQ or smoker? They won't melt at 200°c +?
good question! They're not actually rubber but silicone which is rated for high temps
This thermometer can only be used at home, where there is a router and Wi-Fi? And on the street where there is no Wi-Fi, can it be connected to a smartphone?
You connect to WIFI at home, then on your phone connected to the internet (any internet) away from your home you can monitor the temperatures. That is the key feature of this WIFI unit compared to bluetooth units.
Couple of questions on the alarm, when you set the temperature range and it went off, was that on the app or the inkbird?
Can you set an alarm so when it gets to a particular temp it sounds an alarm, eg time to wrap a brisket?
Also can you set multiple alarms on the same probe, time to wrap, final temp hit etc?
Sorry for the slow reply Matt, when the alarm goes off the actual Inkbird sounds and the phone will provide notification (but not alarm sound on the phone). You can set custom alarm for temp range so will alarm if outside the range, or above specific temp - so yes when to wrap the brisket, like I just did!!
@@zgrillsaustralia4541 Finally took the plunge and ordered one using the code, haven't used it on a cook yet, but found out you can mute the inkbird alarm in the settings so only the app notifies of a temp alert, this is what I wanted as didn't want it going off at some ungodly hour in the backyard, on a long cook. Impressed with it, thanks for the review and reckon it'll serve it's purpose well, a few probes in the meat and one in the z-grill itself for both for running out of pellets event (low temp) and fire event (high temp)!
@@matthewpettigrove3784 Hi! I've the same questions you had previously! Now that you have this device, does the APP ON THE PHONE trigger a continuous alarm when the desired temperature is reached, or just a one off notification sound (like when you receive a text message)? Also, does it work when the mobile phone is in sleep mode/screen off? Lastly, can the device connect to multiple mobile phones? Thanks!
@@mel-bern6777 I know on Android you can set apps to ignore do not disturb it the do not disturb settings menu
Would be good if it also had blue tooth so you can use it out and about
Great review mate! Just a quick question. The sillicone tubes on the bend of the thermometer probes, can they be removed? I have probe holes in my bullet smoker, but I cannot get the probe through these holes without removing the sillicone tubes on the bend. Im scared if I do remove these tubes I may damage the probe or the wiring. Any thoughts?
The rubber tubes are just to help prevent burning your fingers, so just cut them off.
@@zgrillsaustralia4541 Thank you!
Does the alarm have a volume control?
Not on the actual Inkbird unit but you can mute the alarm (through the App) so the outdoor unit doesn't make any noise (which is probably good idea).
Amazon just had this for sale with a $50 off coupon WOW !
Be careful heaps of knock offs on Amazon and Ebay
Great review! One question which is not really clear to me: can it handle more than one phone? For example I'm not at home, can another family member use the device with their phone?
Yes you can. Just set up Inkbird account on the other phone then in on your phone go to More > Shared Devices to share with others. They can then view the status same as you can.
Hey mate. Great review. I'm Considering buying it to use with my Weber jumbo joe. If I go on a road trip or camping, Will it still work without my home wi-fi (considering 4G still in range) ?
Cheers.
No it won't connect to your phone if there isn't wifi available, but it will still display the temperatures on the screen of the inkbird itself.
@@zgrillsaustralia4541 what if you connect it to your hotspot? Can you then use the app?
@@jdncpa73 great question. Did you figure out the answer to this?
Hi, Mike - I have a couple of issues trying to pair the device to either my iPad or IPhone. I can download the app on my iPad but cannot pair the device to the iPad it goes through to 100% but comes up with a fail box. My iPhone 6 Plus cannot download the latest app because you need an iOS13 or higher to download it but the instructions that come with the device state you only need iOS 10 or higher. My internet when it was on cable I had the choice to connect to Telstra 2.4G or 5G but now I have Telstra NBN broadband I cannot see 2.4G or 5G option on my NBN router/modem like I had on my cable router/modem. Currently, I can only see the temps on the device & but I have no wifi access on either my IPhone or IPad. Any assistance would be appreciated - cheers Geoff
I found an easy fix just click on the link - To disable 5GHz band steering open a WEB browser on a device connected to modem and go to 192.168.0.1 (password is Telstra). Go to WiFi settings, then go to 5 GHz band WiFi, remove tick next to band steering and save settings & I was able to pair the device finally to my NBN Telstra broadband on my iPad which had iS0 13.5.
yea Iv had two sent to me since Christmas, neither one will connect, emailed their customer service no response sending both back garbage!
Do you know if the IBBQ-4T will send alerts to phone if phones are locked or asleep? Have read some user complains that the app only sends temperature alarms and alerts while phone is either awake or app is opened
Make sure you have the latest version of the app, and perhaps log out and back in. In notifications setting in the phone make sure Sounds and Badges etc are turned on. With my iPhone locked it will show up on the screen and make a sound.
@@zgrillsaustralia4541 Hi! Does it give a continuous alarm sound or does it just give a beep like an SMS message when mobile is in sleep mode?
Does it support bluetooth as well, or only wi-fi?
Only wifi. So don’t need Bluetooth.
Can you use both of your inkbirds at the same time, say if you were cooking on 2 pits using both devices
Great informative video
Yep you can have multiple Inkbirds setup in the App, you would just need to switch between them in the main dashboard in the App.
Is there a temperature probe for the BBQ
Yes the Z Grills controller (most models) have 2 food probes that plug into the front to manually monitor the temperature.
Nice video. I can not find anywhere how to name the 4 probes. i.e. 1=Pork Butt 2= Brisket etc.
Yes you can - just click on the temperature icon for a specific probe; in the food list scroll to the right and select MANUAL; set a name and whatever temps you want for alarm. That custom name will then appear on the temp probe tile.
Is this the one included with the Pro Bundle with Z-Grills?
sure is mate!
@@zgrillsaustralia4541 I'm like 95% sure I want to pull the trigger on a 450a pro bundle...its sitting in the cart on your site, any chance of a stubby holder? 🤣
Unfortunately stubby holders are only for people that refer a mate, but we have Black Friday sale on, and if you contact us (website chat or 1300 390 703), might be able to sprinkle some extra goodies in.
@@zgrillsaustralia4541 will do :)
Can you pair with multiple phones, I would use mine when BBQing and my wife would want to use hers in the oven?
Yes you can share the device with another phone that has registered with the InkBird app, so you can then have full access.
How far can you go before the signal drops out
It is WIFI so you can leave the house and still see on your phone with 4G/5G phone internet signal. The Inkbird stays connected to your house WIFI router.
@@zgrillsaustralia4541 thanks for the fast reply. Cheers. I've only just started getting into smoking. Brought a WSM last week. My pork shoulder took 9 hours of cook time staying home where I prefer to go to the pub. Have a few beers and bets just a 5 minute walk so this could be the ideal thing to buy.
I tried to buy using the link and code for a discount. It appears to no longer work.

they think well done beef is 170 fahrenheit??? I hope you can go in and set different temps for what they think is the tenderness of a meat. also whats the deal the difference smoke temps? how are you gonna produce smoke at 68 degrees? even if that the air temp in the smoker the coals arent gonna be anywhere near hot enough to produce smoke
Yes you can set custom temps for the various settings. 170oF is very well done! SMOKE setting gives maximum smoke and has temp swings between about 70oC and 90oC (158~195oF). The fire of course is hotter than 68oC, but the temperature is measured up in the grilling area, not right at the fire.
@@zgrillsaustralia4541 thanks for the info. i think im going with the fireboard 2. almost twice the money but try getting in touch with inkbird. I havent had any luck. the company being in china really sketches me out. it also not a very old, well established, company either. Im going with either fireboard or thermoworks.
Sent it back ! It doesn’t like some routers! Total pain in the @$$
Read comments before buying, iv had two of these, neither will connect, iv got a iphone 11 and im using 2.4 ghz wi fi. waist of time get something else these are garbage! so disappointed!!!
Will be your WIFI issue, not the unit itself. Never had one that couldn't connect. Check this page out: help.zgrills.com.au/knowledge-base/inkbird-ibbq-4t-wifi/
Piece of shit. Never syncs. Even when on top of the router.
Make sure you are connected to 2.4GHz network, not 5GHz on your phone... that is main issue people have.
