It’s been a while since you recorded this but was having issues figuring out to set min & max temps for the Inkbird and this video (top hit) came to my aid!! Thanks! Following.
Been looking to get a probe (temperature) and looked at this Inkbird. Thanks for the review, this has sold it to me.
Great information! Ordered one today, be here Friday! Can't wait!
Awesome! Enjoy!
Just got mine. Can’t wait to use it!
Thanks for the review! I just ordered one on Amazon, and all Iknbirds were 50% off, plus an extra $20 on this model, so I picked it up for $50!!! Looking forward to getting it in the mail and using it.
Nice score Rick! I'm loving mine! Cheers!
your gonna love it i bought mine on ebay for $35 W FREE SHIPPING
I just received my Inkbird today. On a hunch I decided to see if there was anything on RUclips.....sure enough, this video was the near the top of the list and I'm happy I clicked it. OUTSTANDING job reviewing the unit, he gets right to the point, explains things lucidly and really did a great job saving me a LOT of time struggling through the directions (which appear to have been written by the same folks who write directions for Harbor Freight items). Seriously, excellent job, makes me want to search for other video's he's done.
I do have one question. The reason I bought this unit, while others were much lower in price, is that this is not just a Bluetooth unit but instead a Wifi. No matter what they advertise, Bluetooth is only good for about 30-feet and it drops lower if you head indoors! My understanding is that the Wifi unit has a dramatically longer range....so here are my questions:
1) So we use Bluetooth to initially connect this unit with our home's Wifi....but after that do we need to stay connected with Bluetooth or does it switch over to pure Wifi?
2) Once connected to the home's Wifi, I imagine we can view (on our phone) the information....but what happens when we are out of our home's Wifi range? If our phone still has access to the Internet (via the phone) then can we view our temp's even when we're miles away at the store OR can we only view temps while we are within range of our home's Wifi network?
3) And this is a toughy....the paper that comes in the box says Calibration range +/- 12F so I guess that means this thing could be telling us that our brisket had hit 200F when it's really as low as 188F or as high as 212F....is that right? Also, they didn't call it an 'accuracy range' but rather a calibration range, which implies it might be adjustment/settable. Any thoughts on that? I'm guessing we need to compare the display with a more accurate thermometer and simply learn if our unit runs high or low....I doubt there's any adjustments we can make?
Thanks Grill Sargent, you should be promoted to a higher rank!
Ha! Thank you Steve! Looks like I need to put out another video 😂 🍻 Thanks for stopping by!
@@GrillSergeant You missed my 4 questions but my first paragraph did appear to be the only thing I wrote. I ran my Inkbird today for the first time. Took a while to get it to pair but it finally did. It's not as intuitive as I hoped but that's because it has a lot of options. First thing I noticed is that it was 8 degrees different then what my Digi-Q was reading but I think that was due to where each sensor was. I'm going to have to take a pot of water and put the Digi-Q sensors (smoker sensor and meat probe) in the pot along with the Inkbird sensors and compare to see if it was a variation in equipment or if it was placement. Easy enough to adjust the Inkbird though. Love the Wifi technology, with BlueTooth you only get 30-feet max and that drops-off the moment you walk into your home! Did my TK-Day turkey today, came out great with the slight exception that I blended some 'sweet & spicy' rub (from Simply Marvelous) into the blend and the spicy aspect was a sharp jalapeno note that did not fair well with a traditionally turkey....that aside, I nailed it. Also discovered for certain that spray bottles are strictly for pure/clean liquid....do NOT try adding any rub or seasoning no matter how fine the seasoning it....it'll plug within seconds! Then again, every time I open the smoker door the temp drop takes a bit hit, not sure it's worth the quick spray with apple juice but hey, I'm writing a novel here. Well done on the video, inspires me to make a few myself.
I just got mine in the mail...believe it or not I won it off of the r/smoking subreddit from Inkbird!
I appreciate you walking through the set up; it’s so much easier watching someone else do it.
I also got a MEATER for Christmas, so I guess there’s only one thing to do:
Head to Head competition!
(Dammit, man! You mean I have to smoke two things next weekend? That’s no fun!) Thanks again!
New subscriber, btw!
So, it's been a year or so.. What are your thoughts? Inkbird or Meater? I'm deciding between the two
Just ordered it! Mainly to sleep and go out for a while and track pit temp.
Great review mate, sold me on it, thanks.
Thanks mate.. from Australia... great review..🥰😎
I have an earlier ink bird model which is one of my fave temp devices to use. May ask for my Birthday next March.
Lucas Wincote This is my third Inkbird devices and I really love the ease of use on this one.
Do you know if this unit pushes notifications to your phone or does the alarm only sound on the base?
Do you know if the IBBQ-4T will send alerts to phone if phones are locked or asleep? Have read some user complains that the app only sends temperature alarms and alerts while phone is either awake or app is opened
InkBird Pro app would not allow me to connect. After researching
fixes and forum posts I found there are multiple apps associated with this thermometer. I had to install InkBird PLUS to get the device functioning. It is also important to understand your WiFi settings. I have a Deco mesh and had to manually turn off 5GHz band.
Can you use your other ink bird devices , say if you were cooking on multiple pits can the app run multiple units at the same time ??
Thanks for the video. Just got thePro for 50% off at Amazon
How do you keep the settings from going from Fahrenheit back to Celsius after you turn it off and then turn it back on?
you basically convinced me to buy this.
Thank you you really help me out
Glad to hear Dan! Cheers!
If your wifi is weak outside at your grill can it still just use bluetooth to send notifications?
Just purchased. I can't seem to get it to work without accessing home wifi. Was hoping to use it point to point when away from home. But looks like it is unable to do that.
Great review , thx
hi ! great video. How can I change the "instant temperature" on the screen of my phone. I would like it in Celsius instead. I changed it on the Inkbird but cannot find how on my cell Thank You (Oh ! is there a way to stop that background music lol on the cell)
Great video on the InkBird IBBQ-4T. My question is; the device says for beef the internal temp should be 60c for medium. Is that temp for a steak or would I also use that temp for a brisket ?
Many thanks Nigel
Bought one of these but after three hours messing around I couldn't get it to connect so I gave up and bought a IRF 4S instead.....
i am sooo excited for this device. any thoughts on the app's permissions?
Amazon is currently offering a 50% off coupon! Just grabbed one for $50 and it should be delivered tomorrow. Hope it still is worth it!
My WiFi icon only stays on for 10 seconds and won't connect to any thing. Any ideas?
Hi! @grill sergeant. I'm hoping you can answer a couple questions that I cant find anywhere on their support website. Will the device connect to more than 1 wifi network or do you have to go through the setup everytime you go to a new wifi? For example, if I take the device to my parents and set up on their wifi will it remember theirs and auto connect as well as mine? Also, can more than 1 phone connect to the thermometer readings at the same time? Thanks for any insight you might have. Great review!
Great questions! Let me see what I can find out...
Looking good brother
Thanks man! Catch you on the flip side!
Inkbird still a go? Any suggestions?
Great review of this unit. I'm looking at getting this for my Dad, who is a charcoal grill die hard. Have you used the probes during charcoal grilling? I am primarily a smoker fan, so I'm not sure how hot charcoal grilling typically is, and if the probes can withstand the heat! Appreciate any information you might have!!
yes it is fine for the heat from charcoal, in case you're still wondering 2 years later.
Just gettinginto grilling and bought this a few hours ago on a amazon prime day deal.
Nice! I love mine. It even sends notifications to my iWatch when my food hits certain temps.
Hi, thanks for the video. I suppose the rubber color coding on the probes need to be removed backwards on the wires as they cannot take higher temps, right?
I've had no issues so far just leaving them put. They will get dark tho and the color will fade.
Grill Sergeant thanks!
How durable? I was told Fireboard but that's way over budget.
Can you tell me what the jack size is on the thermal couple? Is it the same 3.5mm as on headphones?
Thanks
Dear, thanks for choosing INKBIRD! It is 2.5mm, please note that the IBBQ-4T cannot be used with other brands of probes. If have any problem, please feel free to contact our email support@inkbird.com
For calibration, what's the best way to do it? I got my grill to the point that the gauge and the digital readout both showed 350, then calibrated the inkbird to match... but within seconds, my inkbird went up to about 385, and the smoker stayed the same.
I'd have to look into it because I have not calibrated mine. I will temp prove ice water and if I see 32(f) I'm good to go.
boiling water works well
Just ordered one on Amazon today for 49% off … can’t wait to use it. Question though, I take mine Traeger camping alot where there’s no wifi. Will I still be able to connect through Bluetooth or do I have to go back to using my old Thermopro when away from home ?
Should work with Bluetooth as well. If not I just did a video on the IBT-26S and that does both Wifi and Bluetooth 5.1
Could never get it to connect with my S10 Samsung.
I have an xfinity dual band router. It switches back and forth from 2.4 to 5g. I cannot get it to connect to wifi for this reason.
Probably need to split the two bands. I called them asked them to do it for me. We had to do for the same problem with our weather station
Is this unit water proof /water resistant? Thinking about how it will perform in the rain for hours with smoker...
Great question! I looked it up and it’s waterproof rating is IPx3.
Sorry for the rookie question. So wifi gives you more coverage than Bluetooth, but is there a way to connect with your bbq-4t on the internet/browser/cloud based?
Interesting question. I think it just runs off a phone app but I’ll see about computer...
@@GrillSergeant just wondering if there is a way of monitoring the temps when your away from your house, like gong to the bottle shop or going for a surf😂😂
@mark caves. Yes it is cloud based. You can monitor it from anywhere from your phone as long as your phone has internet connection.
Is there a way to make your phone alert you sound wise that your temp is out of range? Seems pointless that the device which is outside to beep and not your phone.
Dear, thanks for choosing INKBIRD! If it exceeds the set temperature range, the app will have a notification push. Please make sure that the IBBQ-4T remains connected to the internet-capable 2.4GHz wifi and that the mobile phone can access the internet, and the permission of the mobile phone about the app is turned on, the phone ringtone is turned on, and the notification function of the app is turned on. If have any problem, please feel free to contact our email support@inkbird.com
It has been 2 odd years on now…
Have you used your inkbird 4t very many times? Are you still happy with it? Is it more reassuring using it? Are there any foibles in this machine that could help the uninitiated?
Thanks so much from Australia 😎
While the iBBQ-4T is a great controller I just started using their IBT-26S and would look at checking that out. I just did a video about it about a month ago.
I like the graph. My weber smart hub does not do that.. or at lease it did not do that the last time I used it. The software gets updated a lot so it may at some time in the future... but who knows.
Yeah the graph feature is what sold me on it. I want to a snake method on that giant ranch kettle and this will give me all the info I need!
So do you put the device inside of your smoker?
No. Only the cables.
Hey did you have any problems with the temperature alarms? They don't work for me if the app is not active/open. (I use Android 11 on a Pixel 4)
WillsonChill I’ll test it out and let you know.
Hey I found a solution to my problem. I used the Inkbird Pro App which was not working for me. There is another app called BBQ-4T which works perfectly. I'm absolutely happy now 😊
@@WillsonChill That's cool! I'll have to check that out. Does it have all the same features and interface?
@@GrillSergeant Well regarding the thermometer the features and interface are exactly the same. The difference ist that you don't have those smarthome stuff like rooms, scenes and automation. But that wasn't useful to me anyways.
@@WillsonChill That's awesome! Good info!
Did you have to calibrate the probes out of the box? What’s best method if so?
I did not. If I had to I heard if you stick them in a glass of ice water they should all be the same temp. And if one is off you can adjust it to match the others.
@@GrillSergeant thank you. Sounds easy enough. Just received mine today. Looking forward to cooking soon!

I can't get it to connect to my internet. I have the correct password and network name, but it just searches and searches.
Hey Rosemary? Maybe try restarting the phone and inkbird device?
@@GrillSergeant I did that. I googled "why won't my inkbird bbq4T connect" and found out that the device won't work with a router that does both 2.4 ghz and 5G. They suggested I use the "BBQ4T" app, but that didn't work either. Going to look for something else. My ThermaProbe failed me this morning.
@@GrillSergeant I am having the same issue. It's soooo frustrating.
How far away from the grill can you be with this device
Dear, thanks for choosing INKBIRD! IBBQ-4T need to keep connected to 2.4GHz wifi, their distance depends on 2.4GHz wifi signal coverage. If have any problem, please feel free to contact our email support@inkbird.com
Looks nice, but the reviews on the App Store are almost all terrible. I know there’s only 40 or so reviews but nobody seems to like it at all.
Is this still your favorite thermometer?
For my really long cooks like brisket or pulled pork it is.
Can it work with Bluetooth or does it have to be wifi?
Great video :)
Dear, please note that IBBQ-4T only work with wifi, not Bluetooth. And now we have IBBQ-4BW which can work with Bluetooth and wifi! If have any problem, please feel free to contact our email support@inkbird.com
Does it require your location to be turned on and ask permission for other Private info?
Dear, thanks for choosing INKBIRD! Because the app has a weather function, it requires location permission to be turned on. We will not steal your information, please use it with confidence. If have any problem, please feel free to contact our email support@inkbird.com
Even after 2yrs lt still won't work with my S10 Galaxy SMH
How do i change it to Fahrenheit? Help!
Do you have the app setup?
@@GrillSergeant yes. I found the setting! But thanks for the quick reply!
Why does it need my email address and location to connect to my wifi?
Dear, thanks for choosing INKBIRD! It requires account registration and can share the device with friends/relatives, so an email address is required, and because the app has a weather function, it requires location permission to be turned on. We will not steal your information, please use it with confidence. If have any problem, please feel free to contact our email support@inkbird.com
Is the back
Magnetic?
Yep!
This would be more helpful if he would show the thermometer screen so that I could compare displays for accuracy.
Good point. Sorry about that. I plan on reviewing a new product they just put out so I'll keep this in mind when filming.
1:02 Let's open up this bad boy, and check her out?
Andrew!!!! The Grill Guy...DUH!!!!
BRRRRRRIIIIII!!!! Hey you! Love that channel name!
Grill Sergeant Thanks Buddy!! 😉 You helped bring it out of me. Doing an awesome job kid, keep up this amazing talent of yours!!!
Amazon just had a $50 off coupon for this product !!!!
JDAGREEK Score! This is truly my favorite BBQ temp. Win-Win.
Now it's listed for $100. I'll have to keep my eyes pealed for any deals on it. Definitely on my holiday wish list to go w my new smoker.
Very cool! I’ll be doing a IBBQ-4T giveaway soon on this channel so make sure to keep an eye out for that! 🍻

Thanks. No need to read the booklet.
Im so frustrated with mine. My BBQ 4T isn’t available in the devices screen for manual add. And the auto scan has been running for 5 hours.. I’ve tried everything. Cant get it to connect to internet. Burning it if noone contacts me. I’ve emailed the InkBird company. DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT… IT DOESNT EXIST IN THE INK BIRD AP!
Hello, very sorry for the inconvenience, our after-sales email support@inkbird.com have received your letter and reply you. Please check it.
A ten minute video and you didn't actually use it for a cook??? Guys, really?
😂 If you watch my latest video (Inkbird IBT-26S) I did a cook with it.
@@GrillSergeant Cool. Apart from that you're videos are well produced.
Sorry, but I disagree with "knocking it out of the park". There are no instructions to tell you how to use it so pay attention here, because he gives you more info than the manufacture. Now there are two sets of instructions on how to connect to wi-fi plus the manual which is mostly connecting to wi-fi. It took me 2 hours to do it. I have a Night Hawk dual band router that my xbox 360 (16yo), ps4, Tv, Firetv etc all hooked up effortlessly set on WPA (PSK) security level. This unit will only use WPA & WPA2 on 2.4 GHz (2.4 is stronger, 5GHz is faster) which makes sense but the big problem is WPA is so old it's not available on a decent router. I was not going to downgrade my security level for this dinosaur so I had to go to guest account and turn ALL security OFF. This is more of a Dropped the Ball from our Chinese friends. Look at other options if you prefer technology than this!
