    Very clever to hang this pack up when reviewing it. Lot of these guys do the desktop style review and its awkward to see the compartments, etc. Hanging it up makes it easy to see how it will fit on your but also display all the pockets etc. Props to you

    I've had a bunch of Rush packs over the last decade but the one in particular that I have beat the snot out of is my Rush 12. It's over a decade old and it started out as my edc and then I use it now as a weight training bag. I honestly thought it would fail at some point because I was brutal to it. 70+ lbs inside in rigorous training and took everything I threw at it. The only failure was the D-ring on the sternum strap (it shattered but the bag still works). Great bags!

      Hi, sorry I missed your message. That hidden pocket was an addition when the version 2 was created. It's designed for CCW however you can fit most small items in there. It's definitely not in the original Rush packs 🤙

      @CorruptionManX no 1.0 does not. I was stating that with as old as mine is it is still holding up like new.
      I liked the inside of 1.0 better but I use the 2.0 ccw for water bottle carriers. Can fit 2 48oz nalgenese in that spot as well as my 14 inch laptop or 13 inch ipad. Also the sunglass spot opens wider. To me, it's worth the upgrade. :)

    I own the 12, 24, and 72. The 12 is my oldest one (10+ years) and my wife uses it for travel. Still looks great. She has taken it all over the states and to Haiti. I did upgrade my Rush 24 1.0 to the 2.0 for the CCW pocket.

    Awesome review! Happy to see more people like this style of packs. I fell in love with the rush series 10 years ago. I got the sandstone 12, 24 and 72. The 12 was my daily companion with water, first aid, some tools and cover. The 24 was perfect for the weekends. The 72 however I had setup as a bug out bag. Unfortunately for the 72, being fully loaded, I came to the conclusion that my length of 184cm didn't play well with the load distribution. So I sold that one. Nowadays I use the 24 as my EDC when going out with the family. It's perfect for that bit of extra kit and food you need to provide them along the day.
    I forgot to mention: after 10 years still like new!

    Excellent review. I just ordered my 24. I've been thinking for while of adding this to my 72 which I love because of the many compartments. The 72 is my first choice for long car trips of a week or more. It's so easy to stay organised during this time. For the shorter trips usually by air, I have been eyeing the 24 for some time and finally, with a week away at a conference, I've pulled the trigger on the 24 to cover my needs for this sort of travel. The 72 is clearly built to last and it sounds like the 24 is too. Now the temptation to add the 12 for my commute to work 😅 Lets face it, travelling is always somewhat stressful but a good pack can make the whole thing an enjoyable experience. I agree with you about the extra compression strap.

      Hi John. Thank you for the kind words. I think there'll be plenty of people like yourself who still love the original. I think the updates 5.11 have been subtle and maybe not enough for many to feel they need to upgrade. Although I didn't touch on it in the content here, I think a lot of the other changes we don't wee will be in the manufacturing process. How they're put together and the fabric sections are cut. After making the original for so long, I imagine new processes have made them easier and cheaper for them to produce. Have a great week buddy

    I’m glad I bought the original version of this pack. Not sure what they were thinking of off body CCW??? Rain would drown your weapon in this pack if you choose to use the pouch. Also they are straying from the reason they designed this pack in the first place. I’m not bringing a laptop on anything I’m doing in the woods or survival situation. No drainage is an issue on this pack. With the addition of the laptop sleeve they eliminated the two pouches inside too. I added compression straps to the bottom using the pack to pack straps that 5:11 sells. Still a great pack, no matter what version you get. Anyway thanks for your review of this pack and video.

    This backpacks older version, used to have 2 issues. 1 was the stitching, especialy on the shoulder straps area, where the straps are swean,(that stitching in both sides used to fail after a while). Also the lack of belt straps. These are the reasons why, I upgraded to the Tasmanian Tiger Mission Pack MK II, which I watched 5-6 times your review on it, before I get it!! The quaity is night and day in my opinion. Just the fact, that it can carry more weight and make it feel way less than what you actually carry, is enough reason ,to claim that! Keep it up mate, I really like your reviews and the fact, that you always bring some of the best, if not the best gear on your videos!! Cheers

      5.11 definitely went through a period of issues with their packs and quality control. They've certainly addressed those issues. I've had a few people mention the Rush 24 and the Mission Pack and I think this would be a great piece of content to make. On one hand you have the Rush. It's made like a tank and is great value for money. On the other you have the Mission that's also a brutally strong pack, that adds more features for the extra price. It gives great choice in the market. I think there's a definite US home grown factor with the Rush which has made it the easy choice for US troops and backpackers alike. Really appreciate your kind works my friend. Thank you for you continued support. Have a great weekend 👍

    Hello Moorlander EDC, congratulations on this great presentation of the 5.11 Rush Pack.
    I have been using the older version since 2008 and have been all over the world with this tactical pack. Mostly I carried clothes for a few days, but also various mission material. The backpack still looks like new, although it has often been badly treated in hatracks on planes by other passengers' hard cases. Thumbs up for this review and this backpack, which I can really recommend as well. Anything you want to do with it, it will go through with you.

    I have a 511 AMP 24 that I've been using as my daily work bag (as a paramedic) for 5 years. And a Rush 72 that I use for search and rescue. Just ordered a Rush 24 to replace the AMP 24, but to be clear the AMP isn't being retired, just going to be used for a different purpose.

    I've had a Rush 24 version 1 for just over 5 years. It's used and abused most days (Monday - Friday daily use for work and occasional weekend use) and it looks the same as it did the day it came out of the packet, despite being abused and frequently overloaded. Absolutely tough as nails. I think the Rush 24 is literally the perfect 24 hour / EDC pack. I fitted a MOLLE Nalgene carrier to the side of mine.

    I have the v1 version for almost 11 years. I can't say it looks like new. But it still does its job. I've lost one of the bottom rings from a water-out hole - I was afraid the bottom would clash, but it's still able to carry weight for the last 8 years. The thing I missed a lot was a place for a laptop. I used a hydration pocket for it where 15-inch laptops fit well.
    P.S.
    When I bought it in December 2013, it was already hot in Kyiv during the Revolution of Dignity. The guy in the shop, as a joke, suggested replacing the hard plate from the back with an armor plate.

    Hi Moorlander. First of all I want to congratulate you for the awesome reviews that you make. Very enlightening and precise and with a lot of quality. I am a huge fan of your work and, gladly, your subscriber. In this review, in particular, I just want to add some more details from my experience owning 2 rush 24 2.0, 1 rush 12 and also a Mission Pack from Tasmanian Tiger. I think that the quality, resistance and toughness of the American 5.11 are unbeatable. The Mission Pack is my oldest and my first military style pack and i find it quite comfortable and its my first choice in European manufacturers. Comparing with 5.11 , the cordura is less resistant (700D I think against 1050D) and has less compartments and lack of admin compartments but I find it more comfortable fully loaded on my back having the same capacity, 37 L when compared with the Rush 24. On the other hand, 5.11 rush series are extremely resistant and, has you said, after hiking and trowing it to dusty ground it still looks new. Being on the military service and a fan of nature and hiking 5.11 are the best. So, after your brilliant review i Just want to add, from may personal experience the following: the thing that I like the most in the 5.11 rush series is the back panel. I hike under more than 30ºC and the sweat disappears rapidly after a brief pause. The material is almost impermeable. Its amazing and high standard for me since most of the backpacks have some kind of mesh sponge material, comfortable and breathable, but that deteriorates with time due to the sweat. With 5.11 Rush series this doesn't happen. I already had 2 First Tactical Backpacks , probably , 5.11 main competitors in America I was truly disappointed about backpack structure, some how fragile and the backpack color that fades way under sun light. Hope to see a review from you one day about First tactical. Sorry for the extensive comment but I enjoy discussing about backpacks. Keep up the good work.

    I have the original rush 24. Using it for 11-years, it’s still going but it’s starting to show it’s age. Color is fine but the seems for the compression straps are starting to pop as well on the bottom and the bungee inside failed a year ago. I’ve used mine for an edc bag for work and it’s flown millions of miles and lived on the passenger floor of numerous vehicles. It’s been in data centers and rural sites
    Used it for a range bag and put a 30-cal ammo can in it for a pistol class and surprisingly it didn’t tear any of the fabric. Plus the countless other adventures it went on.
    For lower compression straps I recommend to people is 5.11 sells a tier system for the rush series, which is supposed to be used to strap the 12 to a 72. But you can set them up as compression straps for the 24 and it makes it in my mind the ultimate all around bag because you can compress it down really thin and expand it out when needed and still keep things where you want them to be.

      @ravaskadeltorian3329 Год назад +1

      @@MoorlanderEDC The Moab 10 is the larger sling bag that is apart of the Rush series. I chose this one because the Moab can be attached to the 72 via the compression strap clips. This makes the 72 a great combination for a go bag/emergency bag set up. All my EDC/get home gear is in the sling bag and if something such as a tornado comes through I just attach the two to each other and I have everything I need together . This makes it so I only have to carry one bag rather then trying to figure out how carry both or transferring gear between bags.

The website doesn’t go into as much detail as you did, so thanks for that! These packs are pretty indestructible. I’ve used mine for daily EDC, travel, deployments, and work, and they are still going strong. Your review has tipped me over the edge so I’m now headed to my local 5.11 store to pick one up. Great review, thx a lot ! But when the 2.0 went out, I Rush(ed) to buy the 1.0 : big bargain for a better finish ! U just mention the draining holes missing, but there's also one zipper of an internal pocket missing, and one key holder in the admin poch, and the scratchy pads bottom on the back, and U get one padded compartment more, but U have 2 internal pouches less. Also, in a non urban use, the ccw compartment is a way to get water in a hard place to dry under rainy weather. The draining holes were placed where water can't get in if U carry the bag, and are able to evacuate inside water or air humidity. So, if I carry my laptop inside, I do want them ! All that to say that the 1.0 may still the best to consider. Thx again for Ur great job.

    Appreciate your review of this excellent backpack. Have a question about how to correctly thread a water hose from the water compartment to the chest strap. Is the pass-through port for the water hose under the shoulder yoke? Wondering if the shoulder yoke will be applying pressure on the water hose? Thank you!

    • @MoorlanderEDC
      @MoorlanderEDC  3 года назад

      Hi Jeff, unfortunately yes it's still under the yoke. It's one thing that's always puzzled me about the packs why it's never highlighted when they're testing them. The straps hold the bag against you which add pressure to the water bladder. The blast in the mouth has surprised me a few times 😄 and I've never really filled it was a lot of weight. I hope this helps (or probably now, as the case may be). All the best my friend
