- 29 May 3310: Early images of the still-in-development Lakon Type-8 show a medium trade ship with eight engines and a low-slung cockpit. And the best news is it will fit on a Medium pad.

My T7 has been repurposed to bulk passenger transport long ago, and it does that very well with all of it's size 6 internals max. A new medium trader outclassing the Paython MK I in capacity is welcome though.
Same here, before I reached hundreds of millions so I can afford large better ship like type 10 and anaconda, I use Type 7 a lot. It is great for trade which is the fastest way to earn money. Just avoid every interdictions and it is good to go.
Same - i love it for bulk passenger trips - very chill. The new Type 8 looks like it could be some kind of 'Blockade Runner'
@0:44 those 4 hardpoints you mention, to me look like a row of 4 utility mounts.
o7
I'm digging these new ships. Nice one FDev!
Or they could cut the sizes of the Type-6 and 7 so they fit on small/medium pads, respectively, and they could be what they were meant to be instead of mistakes for not buying a Type-9. Seriously, the T7 is only Large because it is too high. Bring the thrusters down 10m and it'll be golden!
Excited for the T8, I hope the cargo capacity isn't too lacking. It's competitor will be a Python, which can easily fit 250t and is why nobody uses the T6, which cannot reach that limit.
T6 and T7 isn't a mistake - they're the stepping stones you use and then trade in for a T9
This is the most beautiful ship I have ever seen
Jaw, meet floor. Absolutely stunning. It looks like it might be out of Alien or something. I love the details, just wow
The Type 8 looks like an upside down Vulture from Star Citizen. They are even colored the same.
I can see the parallels you're drawing here, but they definitely are two different ships.
Not the first time I've seen similar-looking double hull ship designs.
The main differences in overall design is that this ship looks to treat all but it's engine clusters as part of the main body, and it seems to be a left/right half and half design
Meanwhile the SC vulture very much breaks up the parts of it's design into three areas, with the bow hulls being visually separate (but not physically separate) from the center, and that from the stern end.
Plus there's also the fact that the SC vulture is designed to be a much smaller craft in general
Edit:
Coming back to this, it looks like most of the design draws from the Krait mk 2 and the Mamba.
The vulture in Star Citizen is literally already a stolen design from the Venture in EVE online. Sorry did I say stolen? I meant "Inspired by".
@@bodbyss That's funny. I did not know this. I guess they all just "share" their work with each other.
Don't think the devs (Lakon engineers) should worry about making any present ships borderline obsolete. Progress 👍
If it jumps, I may explore in this...
Looks like booze cruises at Rakham's peek just got easier... Hopefully, she halls more than the python.
Edit grammar
I’d love to make an exploration vessel out of it if it had a good jump range
@@FreemanicParacusia I can see why. She's a cool looking ship. I typically don't like cargo ships, but this one speaks to me.
@@FreemanicParacusia with 4 hardpoints just from what we can see i'd bet it would make a nice defensible miner
Lakon has added a sub-type to it's line up (many years past) that identify the class of the model in question. It says 'Type-9 Heavy' because of reasons that are not "because it is heavy". So, the Type-10 "Defender" could have a 'Heavy' brother in Lakon's vast hidden ship yards at their R&D camp.
This new Type-8 was described as a 'transporter', not a hauler, OR a Heavy.
I think they [Lakon R&D] were working on a better platform for SCO technology, and the Pilot's Federation will get as good an effort; that could be mass produced quickly, that Lakon can give. Remember, this final piece of tech we all took from dead Taranis came late to the game, but many manufactures seem to already be at the point where they only needed that final Titan Drive Components secrets to go ahead with production.
I would be shocked if Gutamaya, and others, even took a look at the specs.
Sweet time to be a ship-lover.
Emperor Palpatine and one of the many Zacs. lol!!😂
I didn't get the joke 😕
@@Youda00008Emperor Palpatine as you’ll know from Star Wars is Arf. Zac is a cm who is everywhere atm at fdev so there must be many of them. And have been cloned (also like Emperor Palpatine!). Just a humorous way of praising the hard work of the cms.
Looks like it'll make a killer mining ship
Hey hey buddy you take all of that back, I love the T-7!
If only it could fit on medium pads, it'd be the perfect cheap non-combat alternative to the Python 😢
I feel like this ship looks so different from what we've seen before and I love it
Love these composite images
You were fast! What a fantastic ship this is.
That is a rather good-looking hauler - if cargo capacity betters the Pyton Mk I, it may just be my new miner!
Panther Clipper and federation equivalent are next for Power Play 2.0 purpose. That's what i'd like to see.
Biggest question is if it will have more cargo capacity then Python mk1
Probably not? Looks like the forward arms take up a lot of space without adding volume. It's hard to guesstimate sizing but I feel like it will be closer to the Kraits
If not, the whole idea is a joke
It's a great looking ship but strikes me more as a miner than a trader but since both overlap its not really a problem. But it makes me want to mine based on its design and colors.
The type 7 does need an upgrade. Above all, better heat management.
Oh my GAWD just look at that thing, I mean seriously, LOOK 🤩
Traded the T-7 in for my Python long ago... Never looked back. NOW THE T-8 might be the ULTIMATE 🍷 runner!!!
looks like a t6 with improvements, nice.
x to t7 retirement. it stores a lot of modules.
Heat vents infront of the cockpit window. well, its a good thing atmospheric planets are a no-go then!
I love to type 7 TBH
I'd better stock up on Type-7s before they go away!
Don't worry - if FDev deleted redundant ships we would still have the Asp Scout
This looks very cool. . . Maybe even cooler than the Vulture that it shares design cues with.
Hoping for near Python capacity but maybe faster/more maneuvarable with plenty of internals for mining. Even if it has less carry capacity it would probably still be better if SCO gave it better supercruise travel times
Id say it wont replace the T7. The T7 is cheap and makes a really good transport ship with its decent quantity of size 6 and 5 internals.
That's a really cool looking ship that... doesn't look like it belongs in the Elite Dangerous setting.
The premise of the FSD is that it basically requires that arrow head like shape. Following the Python to Python Mk2, we see a slimming down and more organic design that gives a great visual representation that it handles the cruise boost well as if aerodynamics of some sort plays a role in the rules of Frame Shift Drive tech. We'll now have to make up lore to argue that this new configuration works for some reason. Don't get me wrong, the ship looks awesome, for something out of Star Wars or Star Trek.
Next up is we see a progression of Type in higher numbers meaning larger and or more capable ships. This breaks the naming convention and pattern in pretty much every semblance of the Type series.
Maybe if this was say the type 16 or something, with designs 11 - 20 having smooth FSD boosting, but this is just bad.
Elite Dangerous is moving towards another leveling system where older ships are going to be obsolete and pointless with micro systems like this.
But hey, if it helps the game survive, good for Elite.
Millennium Falcon, ED version.
That's the Cobra Mk III. Seriously, compare the dimensions of the two ships. The Cobra is wider with its flying wing design, but they're almost identical in height, length, and awesomeness.
Looks like the MACROSS with the main in firing position.
I could see that first ship in a GDI space game.
Those 4 on the top look like utility mounts to me?
It looks to me, like there is a medium hard point on the front underside of each arm & 2 large on the underside behind the cockpit?
Cheers
I have two t7s one as a laser miner, and one as an explorer
Exceptional craft, is she not?
Would be exciting if I expected it to be available for all on release 😢
And here I thought a hauler would be the ultimate medium trade craft. Well Python still reins supreme.
The design reminds me of Firefly
The Alliance Challenger seems the most similar to Serenity to me with its dual engine necelles, but your mileage may vary.
_A Carry All will come and lift the spice harvester just before the worm attacks._
That's what's coming to my mind when I see this ship 😂
cant waif for this thing on Console !! o7
Well…. We could always sink our type 7 ships into oceans to become artificial reefs? But seriously, carrier based, I like using my type 7 as a drop ship when I want to bring a LOT of SRV to the surface of a planet.
Locked behind paywall
I like its look
All Lacon "Type" series is broken.
Type-6 MUST fit Small pad.
Type-7 MUST fit Medium pad.
St@pid ED with docks those fit only pancake-like ships.
Is this going to be another pay-walled ship like the Python Mk II ?
I see!
Oh good. Yet another Python Variant.
it looks very non-Elite. where are the spoliers (not that i miss em but still)
FDev will spoil that another way.
The type 7 pretty much only exists because it’s so cheap
great job guys o7
You got any shots of the ships interior that’s not a cockpit?? Of course you don’t
I hope it won't have early access shit like the python2.
🤔👍
Sorry I don't like it or want it.. I want a T-11 Big & Fat Utilize the whole Large pad... 500+ trade contracts
ps4 elite dangerous has been left behind, no new ships or anything.
To be honest, there is nothing good in Odyssey (including legless Odyssey, aka EDH Live).
Decreased performance, worse graphics, broken lighting, broken planetary, broken UI (including station, system, galaxy).
@@semibiotic well there's new ships and other features. ps4 elite isn't getting any of that
bruh i have seen this exact disine beofore from eve online ands other games. huh realy but it does have a more intesting engine setup thats a bit difrent but meh why can't fronter acatly use more ollit fan base ships they still have tons of they could fit into elite dangorus lore like they did before you know. but then fronuter don't know how to stay conteant with bascly anything anyway.
