My wife is a really incredible guitarist and can memorize pieces on the instrument very quickly... So once, when we were teens, I had had a particularly bad day and couldn't sleep that night. So, knowing how much I love classical music, she learned this piece and sat next to my bed playing it all night until I fell asleep. I can't listen to it without getting a little teary-eyed now.
I love this piece. It sounds delicious played on this venerable guitar. Andrew York is not merely a master of music, he is a genius with the silence in the spaces between the notes, too. He rides the silence like a porpoise riding the waves.
you probably dont give a shit but if you're bored like me atm then you can stream pretty much all the new movies and series on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my brother these days xD
Two years after first hearing this amazingly gorgeous piece, I am now progressed enough as a guitar student to start learning it. It's so tender and beautiful that I want to do it justice. Thank you, Andrew York for sharing your heart-inspiring music with us.
This is ridiculously gorgeous. Stupidly sublime. Just goes to show that it's not about how many notes you can play, or how fast, or any of that...it's what's behind the note, what's within the note. It also helps to have the equivalent of a Stradivarius to convey those pressure waves.
Your statement is very true. The quality of the note and the heart that the player gives into playing the note is what determines the quality of the piece. Hats off to you, Mr.York!
It must be my Latin heritage, I admire electric guitar but the sound of plucked nylon strings have a uniqueness all by themselves, no need for distortion, extreme string bend, and shredding. The classical guitar is just hypnotic. Andrew York is a great composer and player, my respects for men like him.
Dear Andrew, we just came across this "Gem" and the room was filled with this, extremely beautiful, tone and the poignancy of your playing and composing. Thanks.(you really got us in tears)
This absolutely beautiful, magnificent in fact. The brilliance of the great Master Andrew York combined with the fabulous Torres guitar. I'm over the moon with delight.
esta simplicidade que só os grandes nos podem oferecer...tal e qual o carater da viola, simples, pequena ,por vezes modesta mas com uma alma maior que o mundo...
Thank you Andrew for wtiting the entire set for my brother Robert. You have given me the opportunity to honor his memory whenever I play guitar. Paula Bluestone
Very introspective ... so beautiful ... In the spirit of the famous" Indigo " (Dieter Geike/Michael Topolov) played by famous groups such as The Shadows, The Spotnicks etc ... Congratulations !
Wonderfully composed and played. Thank you Andrew!! I have been mostly traditional classical the past few years and you have opened up a new Road for me to travel!!! Please keep these coming.
Yes, the printed music is available at Andrew York's website as download and as well as booklet. You'll find "Squares Suspended" in the suite "Woven Harmony".
This Torres sounds incredible. It has all the fundamentals: very balanced... warm bass and sensitive treble. It seems to beat out many today's so called big name luthiers or any modern design. I don't feel the overpowering treble and the harsh metallic high tension strings. I don't detect much reverb neither. Of course I could be completely wrong but this is a perfect recording guitar. I feel today's Torres replicas can only duplicate (even enhances) only the look but when comes to the sound.
+Luke M. Williams - Hi Luke, the entire suite of six pieces is titled Woven Harmony. This is one of those pieces. You can purchase and download the sheet music from Mr. York's website here:www dot andrewyork dot net/SheetMusicDownloads.php

That guitar is beautiful, I'm glad it found it's way to someone who can make it sing. Absolutely gorgeous.

Just like Arvo Part's Spiegel im spiegel, so simple, yet so beautiful

I love how this song, and your playing, allows the guitar to show it's true resonance and beauty. Thanks so much.

som puro e cristalino ...muito belo de ouvir
How beautiful. I had heard (from Julian Bream's autobiography) that classical guitars lose their sound over time. This one seems to be doing OK!!
quel son ! une des plus belles pièces d'Andrew. comment une guitare de 130 ans peut elle encore sonner comme cela ?
