Not a singular moment, but they add up across the Reeve films: every Superman quip. "Hi there. Something wrong with the elevator? --Going down..." "Bad vibrations?" "I believe this is your floor." "Sorry, only one ride to a customer." I don't need Superman's universe to be a silly place, but I do like Superman to have a sense of humor about his work. A Superman quip tells us he's got things under control; it puts the saved at ease and puts the misbehaving in their place gently.
I hated when he gave up his powers to as a kid. I was like she doesn’t love Clark she loves Superman. My favorite is when they were at Niagara Falls and she jumps of to try to prove Clark is Superman an he does the super breath
Loved the ending! Superman looked defeated, gets on his knees…takes Zods hand and breaks it , shakes his head and throws him into the wall and then Lex is explaining what has happened. Then we have the Lois “you’re a real pain in the neck” as she slaps Ursa with a thwack sound!
This is my favorite Superman movie. When I watched this for the first time, I was mesmerized when Superman or General Zod would hit each other they would fly back into a sign or some type of truck and I thought that was so awesome! Superman II rocks!!!
So, honestly for most of my life, this has been my preferred Reeve movie. I flip flop with The Movie, but as a kid this was it. This was THE Superman movie for me. As I got older and what not I did have some moments that had The Movie take top spot, but it really does flip flop. I'd have to say though.. I think Superman II is the more enjoyable Reeve movie. My favorite is actually when he gets his powers back and then proceeds to just flat out murder Zod and the Kryptonians. lol I know that sounds bad, but I mean, they were an invading alien race hell bent on destroying and enslaving the humans. Of course I'm ok with Superman killing the bad guys. The way he did it though was so dramatic with the lights flickering in the FoS. Man I loved that. We would turn off all the lights when watching really just for that scene. lol The bully revenge is another. Like you said, its just satisfying to see a bully get what is coming to them. It is funny how sensitive people are to those things. In the 70s and 80s good guys killed bad guys. It just was what it was. Remember that old Shazam show from I think the 60 where he was just gunning down everyone? LOL Only now with social media are people complaining about it. Interestingly these scenes are mimicked in MoS but for some strange reason in MoS they are hated on, but in this movie they are loved. And honestly in this movie they are far worse. Oh.. one thing I remember thinking when I was a kid watching this... when he said, "I never saw garbage eating garbage before." I looked to my grandfather and I said, wow that was mean, he said that right in front of the cook! LOL Looking forward to Superman III... while a much lesser movie compared to I and II, I actually really loved parts of it. The good vs evil fight is right up there with best scenes for me.
That’s actually such a good point. That was such an insult to the chef. But you’re right. It’s very funny that that scene in man of steel was looked down upon so much. But I guess throwing the guys truck, his actual livelihood, over a telephone pole Was a bit harsh.
First saw Superman I & II when I was 5 or 6 and so they have a lot of nostalgia attached to them. The live action Superman films since them have been enjoyable yet I haven't seen any as good as the first two. Superman getting his powers back and flying to the Daily Planet with the newspaper stand collapsing gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. It was interesting to hear there was a director's cut of II and I enjoy both versions on their own terms. Recently I've been recreating scenes from II using toy photography and have released a few videos so far on my channel if you're interested. Keep up the great content, your videos are always super fun!
@@Superfitcosplay There are locations I've found locally which make for great backgrounds and I built a fortress of solitude miniature set, starting with a huge white tablecloth!
I love this new channel you’re doing! I think it’s fantastic! As for Superman being too harsh to the Truck Driver in the diner, I disagree. Superman/Clark was waaaaay too nice to him! Superman/Clark barely touches the guy, other than to lift him to place him on the tray on counter. Superman/Clark then pushed the trucker down the counter, where he crash-lands on the pinball machine. The only real damage was to the trucker’s hand, which was caused by the trucker himself when he punched Clark’s stomach.
@@E46Knight thanks so much! Look that’s fair. You’re absolutely right. He barely did anything to him, just embarrassed him a bit so I guess on this occasion it’s totally fine.
Fun fact: superman 2 is the first movie when Christopher reeve superman uses heat vision and freeze breath, and its the only movie to use one of supermans forgotten powers, amnesia inducing kiss. Its a weird ability and thankfully it was used only on lois to avoid major controversy in the movie.
Considering the bully punched another human being through a *glass door* after harassing that persons girlfriend I think the bully’s come uppance is totally fine (at least in a movie context) and I think it’s fine it’s a bit played for laughs. At the end of the day all Clark did was embarrass him and made his butt a bit sore. Plus Clark compensated the restaurant owner for the damages. Bet the bully never payed squat for that door or all the business that was lost by him being a jerk to other customers. The plastic S was *never* a thing in the comics neither was the Zoners having finger lasers or creating duplicates of themselves. Those are things that kinda undercut this movie for me. I totally agree with you about the alleyway shirt rip even though it doesn’t entirely make sense. I think they were trying to sort of recreate an effect from the comics where multiple Clark figures are drawn in the various stages of him switching guises but they couldn’t quite recreate that so he just kinda transforms. I remember as kid trying to figure it out “Is there a teleporter at the Fortress?” “Does his suit absorb his street clothes somehow? Is his cape and boots retractable?”
Interesting about the Kryptonians. I always thought this felt weird, but I kind of justified it to myself by calling it super speed and being able to be in multiple places at once literally 😅
@@Superfitcosplay That’s not necessarily a bad comic-book sciencey rationale for it. Considering how the finger lasers are used you could maybe parse them as Kryptonian’s channeling their telekinesis into a blast. See in what’s commonly referred to as the Post-Crisis era of DC Comics (well the first time they did it. …long story.) there was this idea that Superman is generating a TK field all around the surface of his body. He can actually transfer this to any object that he’s touching. For example if he were to lift an ocean liner out of the water the reason why it doesn’t break apart under force of gravity because the same power that’s allowing him to fly himself is being applied to the ocean liner.
